I have been using both Logitech G915 for its mechanical goodness and MX Keys for its perfect layout. And the new MX Keys Mechanical seems to be the perfect mix between the two. Would it be worth its price tag? What does it feel like? How about the mini version? Watch this video to find out!

  • This was an awesome comparison and quite helpful in better understanding these options. I had actually contemplated getting the MX Keyboard Mini which I am using now but am planning to try out the MX Mechanical Full size keyboard and returning this Mini. I really value a built in number pad and illuminated keyboard. The keys on the Mini have proven to be quite shallow when typing. Thanks for the info!

  • I was inadvertently hitting the macros keys too when trying to hit Esc or Ctrl and decided to simply program them to Esc and Ctrl instead of removing the key caps. That way if you hit them you still get the function you intended.

  • I started out with the MX Mechanical and after working with it for a few weeks - I found I was having trouble with the keypad area. I'm not used to having keys above the / * and - keys and I kept hitting them. It was just too disruptive in my work. I saw the G915 and gave that a try and love it. So I moved to the G915 as my daily work keyboard. I also like how the G915 is just a little more spread out and in a format that is more familiar to me. The MX Mechanical is more compact and everything is bunched up together. I prefer the spacing they give between the alpha keys, the directional, and the number keys on the G915 and there is no such spacing on the MX Mechanical. Thanks for the video. Nicely done!

The KeyChron K3 was compelling as its logical competitor but the newer version of the K3 no longer has illuminated keycaps which is a no-go for me. The mini has a great battery. • Thats an awesome Review.... I am using Keychron K8 and after six months I have started to miss out on the Num pad now. Was thinking about getting something else. MX Mechanicals Full looks like a great choice. I dont game and prefer to use the shortcuts from the mouse or use keyboard direct cmds or shortcuts. I like the way the RED Mechanical sounds but I also love the feedback on the BROWNS. I guess I will try out in a shop and make the final decision. Thanks for covering up the Num pads also. They seem enticing but a Full Keyboard is better unless someone travels frequently then I will probably buy a Mini Keyboard and a separate Num Pad.

  • AFAIK only the high end G (gaming) models have internal memory for customization while the MX models require a background app to assing different macros and shortcuts to the F keys. That's unfortunate because I work on multiple machines often, some of them run Linux and sometimes I need a keyboard for my Android phone. Having internal memory means the functionality stays the same even if Logi Options isn't available. Logitech should consider adding internal profiles to their MX line.

    • @@JosephKim how can you compare the G915 to this MX Mech and not mention the F-keys being cramped together? Especially since you did mention the macro keys being distracting on the G915, the F-key cramped together with the number keys.... It's just horrible. I used to have such keyboards and it did not work for me, had to always look at it to make sure I F3 (view), F4 (edit) or F5 (copy). There's a reason why gaming keyboards (like G512 Carbon) really go STANDARD, because you can focus on the screen and not on the keys.

That is to say, if you don't use it for a few seconds, it cuts the brightness, which is very annoying for someone who does office work! • Thanks for your kind words. They keyboard works fine as keyboard without logi options, but you can't customize function keys and some functions may not work. Brown is tactile, red is linear. There is a lot to research on that if you don't know what you prefer. Mechanical keyboard is a rabbit hole. I personally prefer tactile although linear can be more silent, but difficult for someone who's getting mechanical keyboard the first time. (a lot comes down to personal pref) if you are in very quiet area, you might need to stay away from mechanical. As to the mouse, MX Master 3 connects via Unifying which I mentioned that doesn't work with logi bolt. So, get the newest mouse, MX Master 3S which should work fine. The clicks are supposed to be more silent. (I will make a video about this in near future) as to sticky surface, it is due to its rubber-like surface. I sweat on my hands and it makes rubber surface sticky. May not be a big concern for you if you are more dry ;). MX Master series are loved by many enthusiasts including me. So, it may be pricy, but is something worth the investment if you spend lots of time with it.

    • @@JosephKim Thanks a lot Joseph for taking time for such detailed reply. Appreciated. As it's bit costlier as per Indian market I think I'd like to opt for MX Keys which you have shown in this video. Seems the good combo with MX Master 3. So looking for that. But still I will definitely miss that clicky keys sound and tild back support of mechanical keyboard in MX keys. Thanks again for instant reply(literally noone do) and such a best comparison video. Helps a lot to decide which product to buy. Would love to watch more videos like this on your channel. Please consider Indian market also if possible.

  • I've always used the garbage membrane keyboards since forever. I graduated with a computer science degree in 2000 and keyboards were all shit or super expensive back then so I just go used to living with membrane keyboards. I recently upgraded my PC and it came with an LED keyboard which I never had before so I tired it out (it was still a membrane though). The Keypad included with the system was also an ISO configuration and I always used ANSI so I immediately had an issue with the layout and this particular keyboard was worse than any I've ever used before (for various other reasons) so I decided, for the first time ever, to get a keyboard that didn't come with my system. I didn't realize how useful LEDs are as I always thought they were a gimmick but having "f" and "g" as well as other keys commonly used highlighted seems simple but is a game changer and even the shit LED's on the cheap keyboard were very helpful in ways I didn't realize. To conclude my blog: I just got a Corsair K70 MAX and I'll probably never buy another keyboard. I've never had an issue gaming on a full sized keyboard... the people I see game with 60% look like console gamers that refuse to accept that the control "stick" doesn't have to be right next to the movement keys.

  • Thanks for the review! Tell me, please, is there keycap backlash on the Logitech MX Mechanical, like on the Logitech G915? I have a Logitech G915 TKL keyboard - it suits me completely, but what upsets me the most is how the keycaps are attached to the keyboard - they hang out and do not sit tightly. I recorded a video with the Logitech G915 TKL and other keyboards, and there you can see a significant swing of the keys when typing - this is a very unpleasant effect. kzhead.info/sun/rNaOZ8xlj2lnaXk/bejne.html

    • I guess a lot of it has to do with personal preference. I am not 100% sure what 'keycap backlash' is, but it does feel springy and there is quite a lot of keycap wobbling on G915. However, there is almost no keycap wobbling or shaking on MX Keys Mechanical. (I just shook it, and doesn't make sound) It does require more force to press the keys though. I hope that answers your question.

  • I'm missing MX Keys test at the end of the video. So 915 is the rich one with Corsair like features e.g. volume knob, but it's aging, and has annoying G keys which will fight with the muscle memory. This keyboard is using a generic dongle. MX Keys is super quiet, but it can't press multiple keys as simple as W+A+G+Shift. Zero anti ghosting effort. It has shrinked top row, and no indentation. Forcing out of Fn keys happens by default. There are some ridiculous labels despite Apple model exists. This keyboard is using an Unify dongle. MX Mechanical is as noisy as 915 (pretty good for mechanical), has no multimedia features (for real), and has no indentation under the top row, and has these annoying labels, if not forcing out of Fn functions that are more important. Also ridiculous labels. This keyboard is using, ta da, yet another unique type of USB: Bolt. I'm tired seeing all these changes. Foremost, the keyboard layout keeps changing nonstop by this company and I can't stand it. It's been going on for a lot of years. And then, as a owner of Master 3 mouse, i can't add this Mechanical keyboard. What a joke. Will Logitech publish new dongles on monthly basis? What crazy key layout will come next?
