The battle for the best low profile gaming keyboard comes down to two options: The Razer Deathstalker V2 Pro TKL vs the Logitech G915 TKL. The G915 price is high while the new Razer Deathstalker V2 Pro tries to improve on what Logitech did but does that make it any better or just the same thing from a different company?

One day I'll try Razer keyboards again but I had a series of lemons which forced me to try out the Logitech.

  • The 915 keycaps are garbage. I've had to replace multiple keycaps because the coating wears off. Finding replacements is sort of pain since Logitech doesn't offer them. For the price of the board, they should be doubleshot. Otherwise I really liked the keyboard.

    • Yeah that's a problem even in standard height ones. Im on my second version of G910 and coating wears off in less than a year. Also stems break or slide around so some caps become literal sticky keys that get stuck to my fingers and pop out of the socket as im lifting my finder. Since is use arrow keys instead of WASD it's Arrow Up that now falls out. Super annoying. I do love the Romer-G tactile switches and the lighting but man they keycaps are not quality.

  • I upgraded from the G915 TKL to the Deathstalker V2 Pro TKL. I think the biggest differentiator is the minimal, office-friendly aesthetics with more solid keys on the Razer device. Also, the anti-grease key caps are a gamechanger. The slower wake up time on the Razer is annoying though. All in all, a very small upgrade, but considering I have to see it 50+ hours per week, I am happy with my purchase.

  • So I'm typing this right now on the G915 TKL. I'd like to say that this review is pretty spot on. However, I picked my kb up renewed for about $120, which I thought was a fair price for the hardware. The loose keycaps are a tad bit annoying at first but not an issue after a day or two. Volume rocker is loose but not to the point where I feel like I'm overshooting the volume I'm trying to change to. Battery life has been great. I love the instant reconnect and responsiveness. Definitely prefer the media/mode switches at the top of the G915. As I side note, this is now my new main controller for fighting games. Anyone in the FG space knows that low profile switches are becoming popular on the new arcade hitboxes and as someone who has mainly played fighting games on keyboard the G915 hits the spot. Combo timing is spot on and with the brown switches I have a lot less accidental inputs.

  • I’m excited to see Logitech to respond to this with a follow up to the original G915. Low profile mechanical keyboards can be so comfortable to use, because there’s no need for a wristrest since the keys are closer to the desk. It also has a nice modern aesthetic to it. I’d really like to see such Keyboard in a 75% or 65% layout.

    • Honestly, i don't see it happen anytime soon. Looking at their mice "game", not that they fall short but everything is quite delayed. The new iteration of G502 has been leaked maybe 8 months ago and still no word on it, G303 was delayed as well and so was GPX before that. Yet to hear anything for G703/305 remakes. Last but not least, i'd love to see G Pro, the keyboard in wireless and also G915 remake. G915 despite not being my cup of tea, it's hella sleek. In terms of aesthetics, it's probably among the best/cleanest. Tho, i am well aware that they just come randomly, show everyone how it's done and go back in the shadows until the competition catch up.

    • There isn't too much need to change with G915, but they do need to update it with USB-C and better doubleshot keycaps with updated Windows logo. Also speaking of keycaps, they need to have the 2nd character on each keys to be lit up as well. It will be mostly refinement they need. If there is I want to wish to have with TKL version, is to maybe have dedicated macro keys just like their full-size version. Or maybe the full-size version have detachable numpad just like Everest keyboards. Feels like Razer refined where the Logitech G915 have flaws, but Logitech still wins on connectivity, battery efficiency, and if you need the extra dedicated keys.

  • The 915TKL is just amazing, battery life is good, latency is basically not there. I had 2 915TKL's, a black clicky, and a tactile white one, I prefer the aesthetic of the white one and the tactile keys more. I just wished they used Type-C USB instead of the Micro-USB. It would be nice if they made a version where you can remove the numpad or remove it, since its wireless I don't think its much of an issue.

    @UAEM4@UAEM4 Жыл бұрын
    • Latency on a keyboard should not be there at all. I mean when razor mice caused latency they acted like it wasn't their fault and totally ignored the faulty sensors in order to make sales (they in all fairness should have gone bankrupt and not been allowed to sell mice unsuitable for the intended purpose. Took me 3 years to get them to admit it was the sensor despite me slapping them in the face with the chips datasheet) ....I'm kinda shocked that they managed to introduce latency to a keyboard though 😄

    • @@luminousfractal420 There's generally some latency on wireless keyboards. Can't say I've had any issue with my G915. Very rarely there's a small delay (maybe like once every few weeks), but I'm also sitting around 5-6 feet away from my PC cabinet. And there's no need to a button press to wake up. It just immediately works when you start typing as if it's wired. But Logitech's lightspeed connection seems to be an exception, other companies aren't quite there yet.

  • A question to an older video, but would you think that the keys on the Deathstalker are "longish" fingernail friendly for typing, programming, etc.? I currently use an original Blackwidow Chroma (probably 7ish years old now) and have been looking to upgrade. It isn't bad to type on with a little longer nails, but I do at times find my nails accidently hitting other keys when typing fast. I am not sure if this is because they are high profile keys, super responsive over all this time, or what.

It's setup to be charged through your supplied dongle like most normal people would be doing it. So it stops transmitting wireless connection because it's connect to your PC.

  • I've been using the Logitech G915 (Clicky switches) for 2 years now. It's an awesome keyboard. No latency, really comfortable to type on and is great for gaming. The only thing I would remove from it are those god awful, pointless G Keys on the left side. I am interested in going with the full size Razer Deathstalker V2 simply because it is very similar to the G915 without those horrible G Keys. However, I won't be buying one until the Purple Clicky switces version comes out. I find with Linear keyboards that the keys accidentally actuate when all you do is rest your fingers on top of them (not actually pressing the keys down) so Linear is too sensitive IMO.

I even mounted the dongle from above on a mic and it still does the same thing. Just get a leg near the f4 and the keyboard is off. That doesn't happen with any other keyboard I have, and I have more than a dozen of these wireless mechanical keyboards.

  • I had the Corsair K70 MK2 Low Profile which had a bad layout. Then I bought the Sharkoon PureWriter which is awesome, but not wireless. Then I switched to the 915TKL and was astonished, but still feel like there could be more, e.g. the loose wobbling keycaps were a little disappointing, but great keyboard nevertheless. Now I also have the DS V2 Pro and it feels like I have finished the search... BUT still the special characters (DE layout) are not backlighted which is a pain to find on the market... Sharkoon does it, why not Razer and Logitech? Short: DS V2 Pro wins in my opinion!

  • i got my 915 tkl for an absolute steal so I'm a bit biased, but I absolutely love it. Yes the keycaps are a major letdown but otherwise I have no issues with it, and I absolutely love the feel of the tactile switches. I feel like Razer completely ruined the point of the USB-C port if you can't use the keyboard while plugged in to a charger anyway, meaning you basically need a dedicated keyboard charging cable that stays plugged into your PC. Also, Logitech are bringing dongle-sharing to the G915 starting with the latest version of their software (It's a brand new feature so not surprised you missed it). Nice video overall, thanks

  • I watched this after ordering my g915 TKL and was worried I might have picked the wrong KB, especially with how yours slid around. That hasn’t been the case though - it sticks like glue to large mouse pad and feels wonderful to type on. Maybe the feet on yours are missing the rubber strips, or your mouse pad is a more slippery material. I got one in “renewed” condition on Amazon for 100 bucks - but it’s brand new without any blemish. I think they sell mint condition returns as “renewed” ..great way to save 100 bucks.

  • I used the G915 now for more than 2 years (I guess). Had issues with the switches (multiple keypress at one keystroke) and had to repair/ exchange two switches already (unfortunately this is not hotswap and you need to undo like 30 screws to open the housing). I assume that all the others will also follow at a later point of time. I should let you know that I am using the keyboard heavily in Homeoffice (each and every day for 8 to 10 hrs). Maybe this contributes to the issues I have with the switches. The other thing which annoys me heavily is the MicroUSB port. Why is that, Logitech? USB-C is better in each and every way. In a premium keyboard I expect premium hardware. But well... also the switches did not last too long for my heavy/professional usage. After work I also casually play games - I never missed a keystroke and did never notice ANY latency/ input delay. I own a white G915TKL and I am totally happy with it. I do not see any dirt or anything on the keyboard or the aluiminium (also not on the white keycaps, for sure not prestine but I would say it can easily be operated a week or two without cleaning and it will still look good)... I assume this only applies to black surfaces. The keycaps are not DoubleShot, true. Would appreciate if they were DS... but this is not any issue for me. I can confirm the keyboard wakes up instantly and is not missing a single keystroke (important for me and the way I work - when I am in a Teams Meeting, the keyboard will idle and sleep after a few mins but it is there instantly, it simply works!). Also I can confirm on the battery life which I consider to be huge. I dim down RGB more than half, I do not charge every week. I think sometimes not even every two weeks. I do not know how it can use that less power, this is also really great. I am totally in for the low profile wireless story - I hate a messy desk (and even with a wireless keyboard I still have some wires on my desk unfortunately). If the razer was hotswappable and faster when esatblishing connection, I would try. I do not care about the money to be honest - if it makes me go faster at work this is money very well spent. Also I can type like hours on that thing without getting tired (with non low profile I needed some rest for the hands in front of my previous keyboard to have no issues). For me the Logitech works fine. It is strong where I need it to be strong (low profile, perfect battery life, instant wake up) and I can live with the "pains" it puts me through (exchanging a switch as the time goes by, charging on micro USB). It has its flaws and still is expensive... for me it is still the best pick. I would have tried the Razer if you did not comment on the connecting speed (for me those seconds matter/ would annoy me) and if the battery life would have been better. Thanks for this great review. I hope we will see other low profile wireless keyboards in the future.

  • I have the G915 TKL and I absolutely LOVE it! I think I agree with mostly everything in this video though. I think the BIGGEST thing to point out is that this particular type of keyboard is a dream for travel. A thin and low-profile TKL instead of a 60% that's chunky is so much better. I have a sleeve for the 915 TKL and bring it with me in my backpack everywhere I go. I definitely wish it was USB-C to save me on a cable though. I think everything about the Deathstalker TKL is just all positives for me, however. I would absolutely pick it up. To be straight forward, the few cons like the volume rocker not waking the keyboard, the slowness to connect (a few seconds is still a big deal for me, the G915 is practically instant), and the battery life are huge. Though, I turn my RGB down pretty far on the G915 to have something illuminate just enough but not eat up a lot of battery, but that's just further into the problem because I'm getting a ton of battery life on it. I hope Logitech takes everything the Deathstalker is and just beefs the 915 up. Tactile volume rocker, USB-C, less oil showing and better caps/base (because dear god am I oily and I really want my keyboard to look a LITTLE clean lol), the three bluetooth connections and the battery life indicator are pretty massive to me. Or if Razer fixes some of their issues, then I've found my next keyboard. Hopefully this competition lowers the price, cause yes, the G915 was expensive even on sale and the Deathstalker being similar is rough still. The features of both do make ME specifically feel fine to buy it, since there's nothing else that comes close, but still..

  • The few things that stop me from buying a Logitech G915 TKL are: - The very fragile and loose keycaps - Special characters like punctuations not letting the RGB light through - The ridiculously high price I would love to all these points fixed/changed/improved and see the price go down to €150 instead of €230. On top of that, since I WFH and game, I don't need the 10 keys all the time. For that reason I'm thinking of getting the TKL version, but I would love to see a separate numpad in the exact same style so it fits perfectly. I'm prepared to pay €30 for that separate numpad, bringing the price to a total of €180. I do also need my dedicated media buttons. I don't even look at keyboards that don't have them dedicated, so that is a major negative point for Razer. Also, I don't think that "low profile keyboards" would be a "niche" segment if there were more and better options than what we have right now. People put their money in stuff that is good and worth the price. If the manufacturers don't improve, then people are never going to consider pulling the trigger to buy their product.

What almost kept me from ordering it was the PATHETIC micro -USB. This had me break a rule that I won't buy another gadget that doesn't use USB-C (haven't bought non-USB-C on years). Punctuation not having RGB - shrug - would be nicer, but no big deal to me. What convinced me of the G915 and blew the competition away is the battery life. This factor 2 or more better than anything the competition offers. That and connection quality together with a nice look and low profile justified the price (at 160, not 200+ :) ) to me (just about).
