  • As many others have mentioned, you should try Nuphy. Specifically any of their “v2” keyboards in the Air series as the v2’s have better sound than the originals. Plus Nuphy Air60’s and 75’s have the rather unique feature of feet that slot into the gap between a laptop’s key rows. Never used my Macbook keyboard since.

Even with the stock browns it was great, even just lubing them gave me that low-profile thock I needed. Would be really great to see what you think about these keyboards, ideally v1 vs v2 if you can get your hands on the former!

The choice of switches are decent and I ended up switching keycaps for the shine through version. Not to mention they have extra keycaps depending on if you're a MAC or PC user and a few extra switches for you to try. You should definitely do a review on the NuPhy.

  • I've had the chance to try a few mechanical keyboards and never really felt right with any, until I got my own first mechanical couple weeks back, they keychron K5 low profile, and I absolutely love it - apart from having no angle adjust, which I remedied by gluing two pieces of hard foam instead of legs. I picked it also because its low profile and close to the membranes I've used for years, but mainly because I have a cat and a pretty dusty room so the fact you can easily reach under the keys without taking them off and just blow the dust and hair out easily. That feature makes it best for me.

  • This is the only low profile keyboard I've ever genuinely enjoyed using. The typing sound and feel is excellent. I have the white one and I replaced those keycaps with a low profile set by XVX. I chose the Very Peri colorway and the LEDs do not shine through at all and they are primarily light colored. Not sure what happened with the included caps, but that was disappointing because they feel great to use. All in all, I'm very happy with mine.

  • I feel like low profiles are an untapped market so it's lacking with customization and there's not an agreed upon uniform switch style or anything, but I personally own a nuphy air 75 that is a bit loud but I love it dearly for its premise, and the way it fits on a laptop is just perfect. I really think you should check out the Nuphy Air 75v2! They have lots of switch options, and I haven't bought it bc the price point is a bit high for me and I don't have the spare cash on hand, but it's got a lot of switch options and keycap options, and the RGB and some other features sound better from what this review has made me think, but idk.

I've been using an Air 60 as my daily driver for work for a year and have liked using it so much that I didn't even hesitate to buy the new v2 when it got announced. • I got this keybord and I prefer that a lot to other regular custum keybords. Granted this isn't really custum but i don't mod my keybords anyways and it has a nice sound profile to begin with. I take mine to work when i have to come in (home work master race) (most of the time) and using a regular custum keybord there feels silly. My only gripe is the see throgh issue and that i can't get iso German layout. I just added modifiers to the A, E, U and O to make Ä, Ë, Ü AND Ö. I sadly can't enjoy the giant enter though. :( kinda wanna print my own pcb and Plate but I can't find any low profile de-iso key caps with good quality. I don't think the market is big enough to custum make them. I would honestly be fine with blanks of the same kind as a compromise but it's not supposed to be. :(

  • Since my first experience with low profile switches, I sold my regular mechanicals but even the low profile blue sounds way less irritating and somehow thockier (even if blues are supposed to be clickier) than regular blue switches, now I also have a low profile red switch keyboard and in love with it. There’s something very different and satisfying about low profile switches and you can’t compare them to regular ones as they will look and sound different to the same because there’s less travel distance, I find my fingers are less fatigued when typing after long periods of time. 💗💗💗

  • THANK YOU. I'm all in on low profile. I love them. I got a redragon low profile, poached the switches and most importantly the STABILIZERS and popped them on a GMMK pro. Found some low profile, shine through keycaps that claim to PBT (a little hard to tell, but they do feel nice) and I lubed the switches. It has a similar sound to this keyboard now. I really suggest doing something more like that. It actually still cost me about as much as one of these things, but my keycaps actually have good, proper backlighting. XVX Horizon V2 keycaps might work on this keyboard, BTW.

  • I've ben on the Mac side of things since 2011 and learned to really like the lower profile style. When my MBP ran into the switches issue (which I did eventually get fixed for free) I snagged a Logitech K380 which my daughter had been using w/her iPad and used it for quite awhile. For just a basic cheap keyboard which would also be really easy to pack around if needed, it did an excellent job. For Christmas my fiance and I had been talking about mechanical keyboards and I saw sales happening w/Keychron so I ended p getting her a K3 Pro and while I had initially picked up the K1, it turns out it didn't fit the low profile keycaps I bought*. By then teh sale was over, and getting a TKL keyboard vs the full size was only a $5 difference, so I ended up w/the K5 Pro w/reds and I've been really happy with it. Back in college at 47 so I used it w/some of my end of semester school work and also using it to play World of Warcraft recently. The Lowfree looks good, and I'd be fine w/the black model probably if I was going to try it out. I do kind of wish the new keycaps on this keyboard were shine thru, but even just using the stock keycaps for a few minutes was already having them look discolored w/oil. Which was immediately after washing my hands, so that seemed crazy. The standard keycaps on keychron DO shine thru, but looks like they wouldn't do well w/whatever odd body chemistry I have going on. I like the mechanical feel and sound after so long of not using it (and I replaced the Logitech keyboard work sent me with it's thick and weirdly squishy buttons) with my K380. Which also takes up a lot less desk space, so that's nice. If something happened to the keychron I honestly might just buy a new Magic keyboard from Apple and call it good. heh * Keychron Hacker keycaps. Nostalgia of the green on black of old command lines worked for me.

Then I saw a video of this keyboard and I was like: wait... what? A keyboard, that sounds like a bunch of marbles? So I went through a lot of other videos and finally ended up buying the Yunzii M71 with linear switches. It sounds quite similar to this keyboard, nearly as marbly, but it's a regular old keyboard. I've used many Cherry originals but recently took a short diverseion into the gaming keyboards as that was what is available here. My keychron with linear reds make it really easy to type - with travel slightly more than a laptop but still positive but the real game-changer was the size, followed by the VIA customisations. Being able to have 4 keyboard layouts and a ton of macro keys is awesome. Noise-wise, I really enjoy the new rattle free boards. The give me a sense of more control, precision. I'd like to try an ortho version of the same board - split would be a bridge too far but southpaw may be an option.

  • After watching this video, I decided to get one of these with the tactile switches and black keycaps. I do love it, but there are some things I should mention. First, the tactile switches are a bit heavy for me, and my hands get tired quickly. But the Lofree Flow definitely sounds creamy and thocky. Stock. I wish the stock keycaps were shine-through. I got some XVX shine-through caps to go on them but took them back off because they (very) slightly reduced the thockiness.

  • I move around a lot & like this to be portable. I recently got into ITX builds & feel Low Profile keyboards fit the bill regarding travel. I also enjoy typing on a laptop but would like to have a 70% keyboard that is low profile. All in all, with mobile handhelds becoming the intro to gaming PCs, I feel Low Profile might be a hit with that group since portability is at its max.

  • Try a keychron low profile, I swapped out the keycaps for a set of a sort-of mt3 profile like these in the video, and I absolutely love it. It's also about a 1/3 of the price. They do make a model with hot-swappable switches, rgb, etc.

  • I am completely new to modding keyboards and this is like the second video I have seen on the subject. I find myself liking the tactile feel, but also liking the “thock” sounding keys. Is it possible to combine these or are they mutually exclusive?

  • Regarding switching to normal keycaps, I ran into the same issue with my NuPhy Air75, the issue I found is mostly related to the keys near the edge of the keyboard, so I left those as the stock keycaps and then switched out the alpha numeric keys and a few other keys like enter, tab, shift etc. with my normal keycaps, creating a sort of franken keyboard, doesn't look great but I think it's improved my typing thanks to the sculpted profile of normal keycaps

  • What do you think about the new keychron v1 max? Is it worth paying 40 dollars more for it than the regular v1? Where I live v1 sells for around 100 euros ~107 dollars, and since its not out yet, but got informed that v1 max's gonna cost around 140euros ~150 dollars, I'm just curious if I should or should not wait for the v1 and if its worth 40 more euros.

  • Choc Mini orthlinear. I wanted a low-pro keyboard that I could travel with. The keyboards on the Dell and HP laptops I use for work aren't bad, but having a travel keyboard meant I could use it at home, work, travel with whatever drive I'm using, including a tablet. I ended up building a split ortholinear with choc minis. Its super low profile, not even as thick as a standard keyboard case, and it is super satisfying to type on (personal preference). If a laptop came with a keyboard like this, it would be an end-game for me.

  • I started with a Keychron K1 with blue switches as my first mechanical keyboard. Loved it but, then I got the K12 from a Kickstarter and stopped using it or would just use it on occasion. I then sent the K1 to a buddy of mine since he was wanting to game on his xbox with a keyboard and mouse but, did not want to spend a lot of money on one. I sometimes miss that keyboard and I did see someone selling the exact same one on facebook but, I feel like I wouldn't be able to use it to it's full potential as I keep switching between the K12 for gaming and my novelkeys tkl custom that I have loved since I got it.

Now I bought myself a nuphy air 75 v2 with red switches and I really like it. I also didn't had a bluetooth keyboard yet.

    • I bought the Air75 v1 before the v2 came out thinking I'd use it with my laptop for notes in college. My main gripe was it was a bit loud with the linear switches, but they have new switches and I don't think they're technically silent switches, but they are way quieter. I think they're Nuphy Cowberries or something? Might be worth checking out
