Despite being plagued by an injury which left him with little feeling in his left foot, Nadal defied the odds to win at Roland Garros for the 14th time, beating Casper Ruud in straight sets in the final. The 36-year-old was open about the treatment he received during the event, and after his victory admitted to reporters: “It’s obvious that with circumstances that I am playing (with), I can’t and I don’t want to keep going, so the mindset is very clear. Most talented and most beautiful to watch. Tennis looks like poetry with him. And then there’s Djokovic. Mentally and physically the best athlete ever. He smashed almost all records out there.. You forget how good he is since he is so smooth. Djokovic and Nadal are scrappy as heck, they just never give up. Nadal’s problem (if he has one) in this discussion is the imbalance of clay court wins vs other surfaces. In the final analysis, you gotta love all three.

Ironically he lost to Roger in the french Open which I didn’t expect. They are so close and they’ve both thrashed each other. Very fine margins. I think Roger liked his fast indoor hard courts best. • In my opinion, Novak was the most dominant player in his prime and showed the highest level of tennis. Even Rafa said that after Doha 2016, I quote: "What i saw today, this is the highest possible level of tennis, since i know this sport". Djokovic in 2015 play all 4 GS finals and won 3, won 16,785 ATP points(most in history in a single season), won 6 masters1000s(most in history in a single season) and play 8 of 9 M1000s finals that year. In 2016 he completed all 4 Grand Slam titles, won all 4 in row(nobody except Rod laver did that) and couple more things. So i think prime Novak is better than prime Fed but they would certainly have a tough time in those matches, i think the fed would have a slight edge at wimbledon and couple more tournamenrs like Cincinnati but overall Novak would win more...

If he had not been banned many times and not been faced with many conspiracies here and there, he would now have more than 25 Slams and a few more than 38 Masters which he now has. Also, he is one of the most humane athletes in history. As for tennis fans, he has a monstrous enemy: the mainstream media which brainwashes them against him, only because he has a RED language and thought, though polite, unlike Federer and Nadal who are more or less Conservative. To me, Novak is politically a revolutionary, like myself. Maybe, he needs more time to be understood by tennis 🎾 fans. He needs intellectual fans! It puts opponents under immense pressure after just 3-4 service winners and they tend to fall apart in their mind and there's no recovering after that. No player is mentally tough enough to sustain Novak's consistent error-free shots for long. Haven't we seen even Federer crumble and look "ordinary" when playing Djokovic? I am a Federer fan and no one can match his stylish game; but Djokovic has managed to subdue Federer for almost a decade. Novak is simply the greatest.

  • No one can touch Novak. I believe he might be past his physical prime but mentally it keeps him in the game. He's so strong in his belief of his abilities that it makes very very difficult to allow an opponent to gain traction over a 5 set major. He's fitter, stubborn and simply knows how to let his best be on the court. We must remember he's got more experience than most others right now so that's an advantage as long as he's physically able to compete he's dangerous. I hope to see him win the SLAM. It's his main motivation besides the majors right now and his time is limited. I followed tennis years ago, being awed by Agassi & Sampras, but in 2998 after getting home late from work, I turned on ESPN and watched the quarters, semis & final at the Australian against Stonga, and I knee I had a new favorite to follow, and I've seen every major win since!! • One stat that some avoid is the surface one. Calling Nadal Claydal could be fair if you also call Novak or Roger, Novfast or Fasteder referring to a fast court as opposite to the clay. BUT the dominance has been so big for Nadal on clay that one could objectively think that if total number of tournaments and Slams would be equal in terms of surface the most important numbers would be very different (just think if there were 2 RG...). Also there are about 85 fast over 58 clay tournaments.

    @radiochoiu@radiochoiu Жыл бұрын
    • Rafa fans keep going on about how there are many more hard court tournaments and slams, than there are on clay. How this benefits Novak and Roger. Maybe, but to be the best you have to do it on more than one surface. What they don't mention, is that there are many more clay tournaments than grass ones. Roger and Novak are the two greatest of all time on grass and share 15 Wimbledons. In another era, either one of them would have 15 easily. Grouping hard courts and grass under the fast heading is not fair. Grass is a totally different animal: It's slippy (high injury risk), low bounce, unpredictable bounce off the lines. A player has to have 2 completely different skill-sets to conquer these surfaces. Borg, Matteo Berrettini and Nick Kyrgios prove this point, as their grass court game is way ahead of their hard court game. Novak's clay court career is amazing considering he is in the Nadal era. Novak is the only player who could beat Rafa twice at the French Open. Djokovic has won 18 titles on clay courts, including two French Open titles and 11 Masters titles. He is the only player to defeat Nadal in all three clay court Masters events, which he first achieved in the finals of Madrid and Rome in 2011 and in Monte Carlo in 2013. He has been in 6 French Open finals. In a different era, I believe he would have had at least 4 French Open titles. Most experts on the net only put Nadal and Borg ahead of him on clay. His clay court record is where he moves ahead of Roger, as they are so closely matched on the other 2 surfaces. Hard Courts top 10: Novak, Federer, Sampras, Lendl, Agassi, Nadal, McEnroe, Connors, Murray, Edberg Grass top 10: Federer, Novak, Sampras, Borg, McEnroe, Laver, Becker, Murray, Nadal, Connors. Clay top 10: Rafa, Borg, Novak, Lendl, Wilander, Kuerten, Vilas, Courier, Federer, Agassi

    • @@gelvisblue if you are refering to my comment, where have I said thet Novak's clay career isn't amazing? As amazing as Rafa's hard court. Man, I'm not a Rafa fan, I'm a tennis fan and I just put on the table something that to me has to be considered. About the grass thing, well you may be right, but with only 8 ATP tournaments on grass and with almost 0 courts to practice in most of the countries I think that one GS on grass is even too much. Of course Roger and Novak dominance there is undeniable.

      @radiochoiu@radiochoiu Жыл бұрын
    • @@radiochoiu Well you sound like a Rafa fan 🤣🤣🤣 You claim to be a tennis fan, but say 1 GS on grass is too much. Wimbledon is the biggest goal for all players to win. It is the most iconic tournament of them all. A real tennis fan wouldn't make that claim, though a salty Rafa fan might. Always excuses for Rafa re not enough clay tournaments. The greatest learn to play on all surfaces. Andy Murray travelled to the States and Spain as a young player to learn how to train and play on different surfaces, as do many players. Rafa had a privileged background and had the same opportunities to travel and to train on different surfaces. Novak is in the top 3 of all time on all 3 surfaces, Nadal is only in the top 3 on Clay.

Most slams, most weeks, highest career prize money, winning all masters multiple times and slams multiple times In open era. The only things he is missing is Olympic Gold and calendar year slam, he can do both next year. I am a diehard Fed fan and he is always my GOAT, but I still want him to do it so people will shut up about this and he can show that it can all be done by one man. I too hope he retires after that so he can have a comfortable and happy life away from the negativity people have against him. I am not a big fan of him but he deserves respect. He won all the matches he was put it to for all the trophies he won (maybe a few retirements). His biggest achievement is from missing slams due to injuries related retirements to then going to win so many with no retirements tells he has the aggression, strength and mental fortitude that’s a top player needs. His achievements are in no way lessened by my or anyone else not calling him a GOAT. He is the toughest and youngest of the generation of GOATS. All 3 are equally good one surpassing the other. It’s a needless argument. IDEMO NOLE!!
