  • It’s ridiculous to paint him as the anti-hero to Fed & Rafa. He’s an extraordinary person. We tennis fans are blessed to have had such people to watch for so long.

    • Before Novak entered the scene, the bad guy was Nadal. The media was calling him a “brute” and a “Neanderthal.” But then Novak won AO 2008 and all of that talk went away. I guess they would have felt silly trying to create two villains against one perfect guy. But what was sillier was how the sheeple fell for it.

    • Who painted him as the anti-hero to Fed & Rafa? Last time I checked, this was an entire 60-minutes segment devoted to the great Novak Djokovic where, amongst many other things, they touch upon the fact that he is not, by his own admission, as popular as Fed & Rafa. But that's the audience's choice and it clearly didn't stop him from becoming the most accomplished tennis player, and arguably athlete, ever. Oh, and it ain't over yet.

I can't imagine someone who genuinely loves tennis but who hates a great tennis player, it just doesn't make any sense. I'd like to watch the impossible match - Djokovic (of 2015) vs Rod Laver (of 1969), those two are probably the most enduring greats.

    • @@robertcriqui8316 Well, it was an opportunity for Djokovic to present himself, it was not a 60 Minutes "gotcha" type of piece. However, I thought the way Djokovic described mental training, staying in the moment, having tools for dealing with self-doubt, etc., was really well said. I've gone to many management development and leadership development courses and I thought this was as well said as I've heard. IMHO.

  • Djokovic competed in the most challenging era in tennis, facing off against formidable opponents such as Federer, Nadal, Murray, Wawrinka, and Delpotro, as well as emerging talents like Tsitsipas, Zverev, Thiem, Alcaraz, Medvedev, and Sinner. He emerged victorious against all of them, shattering numerous records in the process. In my opinion, he stands as the greatest tennis player of all time and possibly the greatest athlete to ever exist.

When he suffered through that Australia debacle, I thought, “This will be the end for him. As strong as he is, even he can’t endure this onslaught.” But look at him. Stronger than ever and with more positive public attention than ever before. I now think that in their effort to destroy him, they put him through the best trial by fire. Now, he is forged. After decades of loving and admiring him, he still amazes me. Thank you for years of inspiration, Nole.

  • We here in Serbia live in a country that is mostly populated by poor people that can barely make ends meet. 95% of the population lives paycheck to paycheck, some work 2 to 3 jobs at the time just to put food on the table for their families. That amount of pressure and frustration often leads to all sorts of conflicts between the loved ones, unnecessary tension and all in all an unhappy household so to speak. One thing all of us have in common is Novak Djokovic. He keeps bringing us together for more than 15 years. One of the rare times where everyone forgets about their problems, their stress, their worries and when only one thing matters: Him winning another Grand Slam. Mothers, Fathers, Sons, Daughters, Grandmas, Grandpas all come together sitting in a small living room crossing their fingers, swearing at his opponents, shouting and cheering whenever he scores a point or wins a set, hoping that Novak will once again beat not only the person across the court, but also 90% of the audience that is clapping and cheering against him. Everyone from Serbia can relate to this: Our fathers may have children, but Novak Djokovic will always be their son. They will smoke packs of cigarettes during Novak's matches, when Novak is losing we mustn't make a sound to irritate our fathers even more, they will scratch their heads and hold their foreheads in silence hoping Novak will make yet another comeback. Whenever he wins, which luckily happens often, they will cry tears of joy and cheer him on with a shot of Rakija as if we, their biological children, were there winning the Grand Slam instead of him. The day after the Grand Slam, they will watch the match on the TV again just to be 100% sure he won, watching it with the same eagerness as the day before even though they know the outcome. As long as we have Novak, we will at least sometimes get to live a weekend without worries and have something to look forward to and for that, I thank him from the bottom of my heart.

  • This is my theory as to why the media says he’s “hated” when in fact he is truly loved and admired by many and respected by all: when Novak came along the 2 most popular players (Roger and Rafa) in the sport had already established themselves at the top of the rankings and were winning most of the slams, regularly beating Novak along the way! Novak took his professionalism, his fitness, and diet along with his mental strength to the next level in 2011 and began beating people’s favorite/most popular players, as a result he was a villain of sorts because the third wheel was no longer a friendly foe taking losses and was now dominating and threatening their records and positions in tennis history as potentially the greatest ever! Novak himself is an absolutely lovely person, kind, looking out for his fellow players with the player’s association, a philanthropic person, always embracing his opponents with a hug even after tough losses, applauding great shots during close, tough matches, and has an incredible intelligence and sense of humor as evidenced by his interviews and press conferences! He is well-spoken and articulate in many languages, and he is passionate about the game he plays and loves! I personally think another reason Novak gets haters is because he speaking his truth and standing up for his beliefs (like with the vaccines) instead of constantly being PC and saying what people in the media want him to say! He’s truly authentic and I respect and love him for who is is as a person and a player! Roger was my favorite player from a technique standpoint but Novak is without a doubt the greatest player of all time and he is also my favorite for all the unmatched smarts, dedication and discipline he puts into his life to be successful!

  • I've always been a fan of players that have a great return of serve ( Agassi, Hewitt, and now Novak) as that was my forte. But many years ago when I first saw Novak doing hilarious impressions of other players I knew this guy was extra special. Over the years my admiration has grown due to all the numerous things he stands for and the intelligence and dedication it takes to speak fluently so many languages while working out to beat back all the contenders. My only question would be - Where does he ever find time to sleep. He is the GOAT in tennis, but on those rare occasions when he loses, you see always how extremely gracious he is in defeat and how sincere his congratulatory remarks are to his opponent. truly one of a kind.
