Video games tend to not do super well when adapted to the big screen, but gosh dangit, Hollywood’s determined to keep trying. The latest attempt is Uncharted, based on the popular game series called Uncharted. With a surprisingly good performance at the box office, maybe they’ll keep on doing this kind of thing?
The Uncharted movie definitely raises some questions though. Like why were Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg chosen to star as characters they seem nothing like? How has nobody explored the very accessible ancient access points in Barcelona, one of which is literally in a Papa John’s pizza shop? How did Sully and Nathan get into the trunk of that car on the cargo plane? How did Moncado miraculously not lose a single drop of blood? Why can’t iconic characters wear their iconic outfits in movies anymore?
To answer all these questions and more, step inside the Pitch Meeting that led to Uncharted! It’ll be super easy, barely an inconvenience.

  • My gripe with the treasure hunting genre is that in most stories, it's a series of steps to get to the treasure. While the first step is usually the one thing that nobody could access until the protagonist shows up, the following steps apparently trivialize the first one. The major one in this movie is not the keyholes and vents between the Papa John's or the night club. It's the fact that the ships were stored in virtually plain sight, by the very people who couldn't trust each other that they needed the two crosses as a test of cooperation. The whole clues journey with the crosses is trivialized when you realize that the crew knew exactly where the loot was and could reach it with no cooperation with the rest of the crew or Magellan. Just go to the unprotected cove and grab it.

    @lforlight@lforlight Жыл бұрын
    • I don't know if that was the case of the National Treasure series or not but I really liked it, even though some people who just saw the trailer complain about it just because it didn't have Nicolas Cage. I don't think in the two movies or the series what you said is the case, for example in the movie he has to use the pipe to unlock the door to the treasure room. But I'm not sure.

      @lforlight@lforlight2 ай бұрын
    • @@sarahberkner I rewatched the two National Treasure movies. The first one was tighter. Except for the treasure being ultimately underground in NYC, a city known for its underground infrastructure, and that the entrance and exit go through two different graves, it seemed like the steps required the previous ones. The second movie was somewhat loose. The text on the statue of liberty is visible to anyone with binoculars, rendering the first cipher redundant. Planks are hidden in desks with pretty stumble-uponnable locking mechanisms, and one president even found it out on his own. It was also weirdly unclear what part of the solution came from the plank and what from the bad guy's burnt letter from the queen. In the end, the entrance was from a wet rock that anyone passing by could see on a drizzly day with some sun. And the exit was through a tunnel leading straight out to daylight, which while they didn't show exactly where, it would still be visible from outside without following any riddles.

    • @Phropetsam - Nathan Fillion was in a fan-film of Uncharted, which, according to the comments section, everyone loved and said should be made into a full feature....so what does a movie studio do? Deliver what nobody asked for instead.

  • I love that Ryan puts so much effort into every single pitch meeting and they’re all unique. He puts so much work into these and they don’t ever feel like it’s just rinse and repeat even tho it happens to be the same kind of formula every time, it still feels fresh every episode

    • Every pitch meeting is exactly the same formula, just like the hollywood movies they parody. But unlike the movies, the pitch meetings manage to be 100% fresh entertaining every time.
