Walt Disney struck gold in 2001 when their movie Pirates of the Caribbean, based on a Disney theme park ride, became a massive international hit and made them tons of money. Since then, they’ve made five Pirates movies and completely milked the franchise for all it’s worth. At the same time, they attempted to adapt other Disney rides into movies, with little to no success. Haunted Mansion, Tomorrowland, Country Bears. Now, 20 years after the first pirates movie - their latest attempt is Jungle Cruise!
Jungle Cruise definitely raises some questions. Like why is The Rock always in the jungle? Why does this plot sound exactly like The Mummy and like Pirates of the Caribbean at the same time? What’s up with that guy’s face splitting open and snakes jumping out of it? Why does Frank speak perfect modern American English? Why did Lily intend to sacrifice thousands of lives to save a guy that explicitly said he wanted to die?
To answer all these questions and more, step inside the Pitch Meeting that led to Jungle Cruise! It’ll be super easy, barely an inconvenience.

Also, MacGregor had JUST told her Frank's last words were that she was world enough for him, so she knew he didn't actually want to die anymore.

  • -"So, you have a movie for me?" -"Yessir I do. You know Pirates of the Caribbean?" -"Of course, I made enough money off of that to buy Quebec!" -"Uh...ok sir. Well, I figure that we can do that again, but mix in some Indiana Jones in there so people don't know we're just -rehashing what we did before." -"Hmmm..." -"You don't like it?" -"I don't know, it doesn't seem like it'll make me enough cash to buy Ontario..." -"Is that your goal? Can you settle for something smaller, like Newfoundland?" -"No." -"Tell you what, how about we toss the Rock and Emily Blunt in there?" -"Ah, now that's a movie!" -"You think it'll do well?" -"Yeah, I think it's probably at least enough for Alberta..."
