Hi chaps! As I mention in this review I also had severe brightness drop off (2300-900 nits in full screen HDR). So there are some panel HDR issues. Hopefully Samsung will fix or offer a statement, I would suggest holding off on buying until we know more. - Tom
Hi Tom. Can you please sent me this please. Thanks.
What do you think? Altohough, becasue i would like to mount it under a samsung neo qled tv, it should be flat, too bad samsung haven't made a flat version of the neo qled uwqhd 240hz monitor. It would be perfect for me. Now have to live with every advantage and disadvantage of the curved display. Other than gaming in a few games, less than half, it is just disturbing. Less space for using it 2 person, too deep, too chunky, bad look, expacially under a flat tv. It's a lotof compromise? Maybe should wait till samsung makes it in a flat form? Never now, Would be pleaed to hear rumos about it. It would be my perfect monitor. :D

@@packlimo That would be awesome mate. Please Tom, if you maybe hesitate about giving it away, be us first 2 who you consider. We can maybe have a couple of water cooling liqued together in a Samsung Store, and speak about tech for an hour, until you draw between us who gets the monitor. I would have a perfect scenario for it as written below, if either uf us doesn't get it, we had a great chat together. :D
This is really is the best monitor that is out on the market, and it has a very reasonable price too for it's performance. Only gripe, that it hasn't got a flat screen option, because although curved monitor is perfect for a smaller nich of scenarios, but than it's really great, most of us would use it normally, and maybe also work from it, edit photos, doing 3d work, search the web, and use it with 2 inputs, than a curved screen is not the most ideal. And also would really would hear about a bigger, 2 31,5 inch monitors stacked ext to each other, around the 56,5 inch screen size, that would be great to hear about and also maybe thunderbolt 3 support, but that is negligable. :D
If you get used to a monitor this size, there’s no going back to “ordinary” monitors.
48" oled or 55" 16:9 is imo better. Will wait for lg miniled monitors
Agree
I did exactly that. I have the previous version of this monitor (the 49" 5120x1440 120 Hz version). After using a few months, I gave it to my son and bought the 32" G7. So I went from the 32:9 all the way back to 16:9. No regrets. Reason being, a LARGE majority of games either don't work, or have serious UI flaws in 32:9 ratio. I try lots of games, so I was tired of fighting with it, and finding hacks to get around the UI issues... 16:9 works with everything, so I'm much happier now. (and the 240 Hz on the G7 is nice too!)
@@ArchV idk man on pretty much every game i play i get no issues with my g9, everything looks amazing on it
can confirm have a 34 inch curved.. there's no going back
I've had the original for 9 months. I love it. I can't work without it.
Love this!! Your review on this screen has made it seem worth the money. I agree it should be taller and have speakers but wow what a step up! Thanks for sharing your review!
Kid to parents: I need it for my zoom class so I can see everyone at the same time.
The only good video about the Neo G9 with lots of information and facts that I could find. Thanks for that :)
I appreciated your review and input on this monster. I took the plunge which will be delivered in about 5 days and I am definitely looking forward with great anticipation. Thanks again and if you ever get to Arizona the punts are on me. Cheers mate!
I got the older Odyssey G9 one month ago & I loved it so much I can't go back to ordinary monitors anymore it feels like this monitor is once and for all I can do/see everything at once while gaming/streaming and productivity it's just something else.
Wait a few years till they release the 72' 8k version.
Normal monitors are so old fashioned anymore. I don't care about 4K.. 8K... I just want ultrawide!
@@Swordmaster7th Yeah I think ultrawides are the future more pixels like 4k or 8k proven to be useless over other things.
@@Tezorus Probably the same 32:9 aspect ratio but 4K for each side instead of 1440p, Anything wider than 32:9 49" is just gonna be unusable makes no sense.
Hi, I have a question. You said you can run console and laptop on same monitor splitting in half. With this monitor, can you run Xbox series x on one side, then on the other side, run laptop for the whole half, but in that half (here’s the question), split the screens into 4-6 smaller boxes? So basically, console on left half of monitor, then 4-6 little boxes taking up right 50% of screen for multi tasking work?
Yes. Particularly with Windows 11 that has improved snap tool
@@Thetechchap Sick, this Monitor is almost too good. But i can‘t afford this Thing. 😓 Maybe in a few Years. 😄 Edit: shout out, you‘re Vid‘s are realy good
The monitor supports multiple sources. SO yes you can have a XBOX on one side and a laptop on the other.
Great video, mate! The monitor itself is waaayy too expensive for my liking, but it is a great halo product that hopefully shows what's going to be the norm in a few years time.
Subbed, your review is awesome and gets to the point
This is definitely the ultimate software development monitor. I have a 38 inch ultrawide and it's so useful for programming as you can have two full sized windows open for comparing/referencing code. It's amazing for editing too. This would be on another level
No way!!!!! Awesome. That bad boy is so sweet
Monitor is pretty cool too :)

I had the first version of the G9 which had flickering issues. Returned it for the LG CX48 and couldn't be happier. Really glad to see the are finally coming out with a new version of the G9 and I miss having that ultrawide experience. Now if only they came out with a super ultrawide curved OLED that was 2160 pixels high instead of 1440
just create a custom res at 3840x1080 and enjoy the same aspect ratio as that monitor. or 3840x1620 for 21:9 (that one already comes pre-made) i do that sometimes. to me the screen of my c1 is more of a canvas than a screen. often times i opt to only use part of it. the perfect blacks allow for that.
lol
I did the samething, the hdr was terrible on the g9,too dark dimming
That would be more than 5000$
good luck trying to run a super ultrawide that has 2160 pixel vertical resolution
Never been a fan of ultrawides but it is impressive that they got over 2000 nits and 2000 zones. And I've been saying high end HDR needs to start existing on faster displays.
One of the cooler use cases I saw for this monitor was someone restricting their game to the equivalent of a 3440x1440 screen in the middle (like at 12:00), and they had two smaller sections on the left and right where they had Discord on one side and KZhead on another. There's a bunch of ways to split the screen, but I thought that was a really neat use case for it.
i do that all the time
@@hashbrownz1999 How do you do that? I get mine in like 4 days and I want to set it up as u said
That's sick

Hey Chaps! Would this be TOO big for your setup? 😅
Too big I have don't even have a setup 🤣
Should get another and place on top
No way! 'It's free (screen) real estate' 😎
Would actually make it more minimal aka less individual displays :P

That's a unbelievably beautiful monitor bro ans the cuves on it are beautiful and once plugged in it even gets better. But my main question is where did you get that beautiful background? Enjoy that monitor for many years to come!
blocking out room light is always what you need to do to embrace the quality of any screen. 😌👌
I never could understand those people who set up their living room with the TV right across from a window (and don't even buy blackout curtains). It's like they enjoy beams of light reflecting and dimming out the image.
Damn 100% i need this!
trust me u dont i had similiar monitors it just screw your neck overtime because everytime u need to look on certain places u move your whole head...this is only for content creators...ultrawides just makes more problems then benefits...go for 32inch 4K or 1440p and u will be more happy
Im with ivo, These monitors cause more issues than you think. I bought the older version of this monitor and man i was hyped for about 3 days.. The immersion is definitely there.. dont get me wrong but using it everyday just made me more and more angry. I hated everything about this monitor. I went back to my 24inch 240hz and 27in for side monitor and man idk. Maybe i'll bring it out for a nice single player game but honestly if your going for this type of monitor ask yourself if it will be worth it for certain titles.. for every other game it was pretty terrible

You need LG C1 48" 😀
you really don't need it. Don't act on emotion so easily every time a new product comes out.
12:07 5120x1600 variant would be nice to have: a bit higher; a bit more pixel denser (so less wide); 5120 (40x40 px) or 8000 (32x32 px) dimming zones; wider VRR range (48-240 Hz); DSC on HDMI 2.1 (if not supported already); DisplayPort 2.0
Better option is 8k x 2k - 2x 4k display
there's literally nothing in the market with anywhere near that amount of dimming zones. might as well just say this should be oled instead. or microled. or dual layer lcd
260 ppi would be awesome at this size. We would need two display Port 2.1 though^^
well full 240hz support on HDMI 2.1 would be a start, currently the monitor only supports 144hz... so if you want 240hz you need to use the DP
Awesome video!! This monitor looks so sweet, I just preordered one, so psyched up to get it and hoping I get it this weekend!!! I'm looking forward in playing AoE 2 DE and Cyberpunk 2077.

Beautiful, but too short for my tastes. Hoping in the next two years more monitors will use this tech to come out in other sizes or formats.
Im tempted to get one of these purely for video editing.. Having that much space for a long timeline would be amazing!
Most excellent presentation, thank you! Mine's still in the box until tomorrow, can't wait.
Would love one! But not at this price!!! However, the one mostly constant in PC Tech is prices tend to drop over time. So I'll just be patient and wait.
Very nice def the absolute best looking monitor I've ever seen the balcks are way better then most man the contrast overall is better which will make the color even better and the percieved brightness is good it's good at everything including performance lol imo this is the montior to get if you want the best image quality and the best performance mixed together the neo reminds me more of an oled then anything else not even joking but if smasung can do this with there monitor then they could of done the same with the tv isntwsd of only doing 600 to 700 on a bigger screen imagine 2k zones with there algorithms they can do on a tv it would look so good
I liked this review as you were honest and didn't just concentrate on the positives of the display and go all fanboi like most other reviewers do.
Incredible I saw this at best buy!!!! Great review btw 👍 👍
As an original g9 owner, just freaking buy it. I only have a 2060 super and I still love it.
Already pre-ordered 😊
I've got the first version of this big boy, CRG9 with "only" 120Hz refresh rate0. It is still amazing for work and games. My 3080 can't push it to the limits so why bother to upgrade;)
@Xavier Patrick Going from amazing to even more amazing has diminishing returns. For work, there is near zero benefits from the upgrade. It all comes to how much HDR means to you. Personally, I would rather buy a big OLED TV if games and movies in HDR are important. 32:9 is really nice in games, but I think 21:9 works generally better in games (not so limited horizontally).
If I had not purchased my LG-34GN850 last year, which is a phenomenal display, I would have been very interested in this. The HDR performance on this would be insane.
I have had the previous gen of this monitor for a while now and it has been nothing but GREAT! I am a professional designer and this has at least doubled my workflow speed. I have recently traveled and was forced to use a 15-inch laptop screen which is great, but I really got spoiled by the "real estate" that these series have to offer. If anyone is doing research to buy one of these (any generation) I would strongly advise doing so. Let's remember, Samsung is the king of displays therefore Apple uses them for display fabrication lol
I have the 2020 version and I love it. I don't really mind seeing as this new version is $1,000 steeper lmao. The original one is sooooo nice, I'll just wait to upgrade until they release one thats actually 4K resolution. Edit: Make sure you get a monitor mount for this. The stock mount is wayyyy too low for tall people.
Did you come across any bad software related issues? Heard many good things but also many bad things about last year's G9, your opinion?
@@Reptileman110 Never heard of that myself and never experienced it
I curious to see how well these do over time. The previous Samsung super ultrawide had MANY issues failing with in the first year
Ahh!!! No wonder! Since ancient times, Samsung displays are known to end up having a line of pixels blacked out (dead) across the display. I myself has many experiences of the same issue with different Samsung products!
@@ck008uk samsung is shit
Love the specs! device is crazy! I hope they come out with a 32" screen with the same specs and mini LED so I can go triples for iRacing!
they have 34" and i have that.... it's odessy g5 34
I have the Neo G9. It fits perfectly in the corner of my desk connected to my Alienware Laptop (it has an RTX 3070) and running through display port at 240hz. Got it on special for $1500. Its definitely a head turner when i have company.
I wish there was an option to gradually decrease the resolution rendering on the sides because like you said, the side on such a panel are mostly for peripheral vision and it's a waste of performance even on high end cards. That could even make some sense on my 34" 3440x1440 monitor.
some games support that I think but it is new tech and I saw a video about a racing game using it but we might see it more and more
Be interested in the mini-led uniformity. Around 10:55 when panning over the water in flight simulator looked like there was some vertical banding/DSE which at this price I wouldn't be happy with.
Absolutely amazing👊🏾 WOW
I was wondering if you could avoid the display stream compression and run max (higher) framerate by splitting the bandwidth across 2 HDMI 2.1 cables and enabling Nvidia surround to have the GPU think it's displaying the same game over multiple screens. Or is the Hz still locked at 120 on this model when picture by picture is enabled? Just wondering how to get my setup optimized while I wait on my pre-order. ;)
The last few iterations of the odyssey g7 and g9 had a lot of bugs like not waking up after going into sleep mode or just waking up so slowly that it messes up everything. Flickering was also a big issue and the Samsung customer support sucks hard. This happened to me and several others. So take that into consideration if you are interested.
cheaper and bigger than my pg35vq. Nice too see this tech advancing. They definitely need a 21:9 version for way cheaper!
If dady samsung hear you :)
i think many people scream for the 21.9 version
It's more expensive than what I got my pg35vq for in the US, but I managed to get a neo g9 with a student discount($427 off). Though it's not coming for another month
I agree. I want a 21:9 version as 32:9 is too much for me. If they could get a 21:9 version for $500 cheaper it would be a steal. My next upgrade from my Acer X35 won't be until there is a proper 5120x2160 21:9 ultrawide with at least 144hz.
Love my pg35vq, holding on to it for a year or two more to wait for this to be mainstream so you can get more options.

The way you took that monitor out, the curvature from the monitor makes it looks like it was bended from you taking it out. Scared me for a sec. 😅

Hi! What is the live wallpaper you use on 5:08? Great review by the way. I bought this monitor after your review!
When you took it out of the box, I thought it was a satellite dish.
I forgot to ask, does it have flickering issues reported on the Gen 1? How about the reported popping sounds when it gets warm that was also reported on the Gen 1?
They did an update last year to add a setting to completely fix the flickering.
Got one today love it!!! 👍🤙👌
Can't wait to get mine!
Your space screensaver/motion wallpaper is sick. Where can I download that?
I too would like to know this please!
Yes please
I've got the "old" one, VESA mounted. It's still a great piece of kit, that I got on-sale for about £900. I do love the monitor, but I find it's a bit too big. The vertical size is perfect, but the horizontal is just insane. Now I've tried Super-Ultrawide, I think it's best to stick with a normal ultrawide setup. The lighting is also pathetic, it's not noticable, and just a waste of power. Speaking of which, how is the power consumption, and monitor heat? The old one, at 240hz+G-sync produces SO MUCH heat, it could warm up a small room. As for power consumption, I have noticed a slight bump in my bill. I'm also a little disapointed that there are no speakers with the new model, paying 2 grand for a monitor with no speakers is absurd.
I'd probably argue that at this pricepoint, you'd either be a) using decent standalone speakers, or b) quality headphones. Would many folks even use built in monitor speakers anymore?
that wallpaper on that screen is crazy i love it
Hi! Amazing video! Thanks for that! Couple of questions: 1. Can this monitor work with laptop GPU (e.g. RTX 3080 Ti)? I have a gaming laptop with 3080Ti and the laptop has a type-c output port. I’m currently using Odyssey G7 and it works fine though, but sometimes monitor is blinking( 2. If possible, can you please list all the games you played in this video? I recognized Flight Simulator, Forza Horizon, Ratchet&Clank, and Rainbow Six. I would much appreciate that! Thanks!
As soon as I saw the title of the video, i immediately thought how aoe2 would look on it. To my great surprise, just few mins in, Tom indeed has aoe2 on the screen. Amazing.
I really do like the PBP Mode, I always wanted something like that.
This is a super impressive monitor. I can't wait for a version meant for work come out. I want a good mini LED monitor that's good for work and media consumption. Also, Windows need to do a better job support HDR content.
Very nice monitor, will be my next purchase. BTW, what's the background that you use, I really lovel it or is it a screen saver?

Does anyone know if you can treat this monitor like a true dual monitor setup? I have two monitors now so I can play a game on one monitor and play KZhead videos on the other monitor. Does anyone know if that is possible on this monitor? either through the windows natively or if there is a software that I can use to force the monitor to let me put a game on one side and another app on the other side.
Yeah you can use it as two 27in
I have a 3440x1440 and I can't go back. This would be AWESOME. Movies need to be filmed with screens like this in mind.
Excellent review. Thanks. One correction, it would actually take 5 (not 4) of them to make a perfect circle. 1:58
Thank you for the review, it was excellent. My obvious concern revolves around the ergonomics of the display. Without adequate desk space and the associated room to house the display I am concerned back and neck problems would be common.

If it’s like having two 27” monitors next to one another I’d imagine it’s better for your neck than that.
That's what vesa mounts are for.

I have really good peripheral vision so curved screens boost immersion Alot for me. Viewing angles seemed to be the problem spot for most Monitors but I think they've finally stepped up the quality enough to make the image consistant across the whole Sreen. Cool, but for gaming all I need is 21:9 or 16:9 Oled with 120-144hz .

@@mario_luis_dev once you go ultra wide you can never go back. Really happy with my 34" AOC although I wish manufacturers would start making them in bigger sizes (if 34" UW is comparable in height to a 27" monitor, then 38-41" would be closer to a 32" in height). There are a couple 38" ultrawides but they cost a ton of money and besides I'd like something with at least 120 Hz refresh rate
Waiting on that fabled 42 inch oled from lg
@Stefan only thing is the 48 is a bit way too big unless you have a super deep desk, average computer desks aren’t deep enough and will need you to wall mount the tv

3 monitors in vertical LOL
Its actually great for coding or seeing active trading positions
Oh man, I'd be all over this if the curve was less aggressive. I briefly owned the previous gen model, the Odyssey G9, but I couldn't get used to the distortion, particularly in desktop usage (looking at an Excel spreadsheet on one of these is a decidely trippy experience), and ended up returning it in favour of the slightly older and less specced out CRG9 (same size and resolution but 120 Hz and with a gentler curve).
Does this really give you more viewing area in games? Or does it just stretch the game out. Is it blurry on the sides like the original?

Great video, thanks. Just a comment about the missing Dolby Vision being a problem, which is not. This is a common misconception, but Dolby Vision does not improve image quality on bright HDR displays at all. What Dolby Vision does is to provide dynamic metadata for adapting HDR content to SDR or to less capable displays, but when you have more than 2000 Nits peak ...forget about it, because the dynamic metadata is totally irrelevant (most HDR content is mastered from 1000 to max 2000 nits). In fact neither HDR10+ gives you anything extra in this case. HDR10 static metadata is perfectly enough.
thats incorrect, Dolby Vision lets the monitor utilize dynamic metadata if the movie or game supports dolby vision, where as hdr 10 only uses static metadata, it has no bearing on anything that is sdr, and HDR mastering can go to 10,000 nits but usually caps at 4000 nits
@@mainsource8030 I'm afraid you have the same misconceptions. To start with, 10.000 nits is never used for consumer content. Most HDR content is mastered at just 1.000 nits, maximum 2.000 nits. But in any case beyond 2.000 nits having static metadata (HDR10) is perfectly enough, dynamic metadata does not give you any significant improvement. Note that Dolby Vision is not used to create HDR masters and neither to reproduce the higher nits version. The only function of Dolby Vision is to adapt the content for TVs and monitors with much inferior HDR capabilities and also to produce the SDR version without having to deliver two different versions HDR/SDR. That's all what Dolby Vision is.
@@javiej I dont know where you are getting your info but you are wrong. I work in the industry and can tell you that with the utmost confidence . Please provide an article with proof then or name your source of info. Here is part of an article from the Dolby website....... The main difference between Dolby Vision and HDR10 is the colour depth and brightness the content and equipment is capable of achieving. Dolby Vision content is mastered up to 12-bit colour depth, compared to HDR10's 10-bit (which is where HDR10 gets its name from). You might be wondering what difference 12-bit makes over 10-bit? Well, 12-bit colour depth gives access to over 68 billion colours, compared to 1 billion with 10-bit. This means the colours you see from Dolby Vision films and on compatible TVs are supposed to be far more accurate and as the director intended. Dolby Vision content can also be mastered for 10,000 nits peak brightness but at the moment, no display can support this, so content is actually mastered to around 4,000 nits. However, it's ready for when the displays support it.
here is another excerpt from dolby labs, who by the way created the hdr10 spec.......... Here is a quote from Display Daily, quoting Patrick Griffs from Dolby Labs. This is about the best easy English explanation I could find. "Griffis said that for streaming video, Dolby Vision provides a backward-compatible framework for HDR. There is a base layer of SDR content encoded with a Gamma EOTF and decodable by any streaming video decoder for showing on an SDR display. Then there is an enhancement layer that includes all the necessary data to convert the SDR stream into an HDR stream and metadata that tells the Dolby Vision decoder exactly how to use this enhancement layer data to perform this SDR to HDR conversion. Griffis said the enhancement layer and the metadata adds just 15% on average to the size of the bitstream. This allows streaming companies like Netflix to keep just one version of the file and then stream it to either SDR or HDR customers. An SDR (or HDR10-only) system discards the extra data and shows the SDR image. This saves storage space on the server, at the expense of higher streaming bit rates to SDR customers. Of course, in 2016, the vast majority of streaming customers are SDR customers and this streamed enhancement data is mostly discarded."
@@mainsource8030One thing is the theory and what Dolby would like people to use their products for, and another thing is the reality. And in reality the only Dolby Vision content that you will find is HDR content with Dolby metadata for downconversion to inferior nit versions (tone mapping), which is unnecessary for this particular monitor. SDR to HDR is much better served with HLG, which is the only standard in use because it provides universal compatibility and because it is royalty free. In any case none of this changes my point, which is that in reality you will never appreciate the difference between HDR10 and Dolby Vision / HDR10+ versions in this particular monitor. Where you want to have Dolby Vision is in OLED monitors and TVs that can not get even close to 1500 nits (Dolby Vision is an excellent format for those. I am not critizing Dolby Vision at all, just saying what is useful for).
Hey champ! thank you for this awesome review! could you please share where did you purchase this great-looking chair from? :)
It is a beast been using the previous G9 for a while now never had any issues that a lot of people had with the previous model . Mainly use for Flight simulator other games , love recording and video editing in 5k 100% no going back to anything smaller . Go get yourself one now .
Will you pay for it?
Would you prefer this over a LG CX tv as a monitor?
I would say it depends how deep your desk is. Personally I have a 45 inch deep desk and use lg c1 and sit around 70 cm away and its perfect. Plus its way better for movies etc..... And the LG is also cheaper so there's that too
@@FG-td4vs thank you!
@@punkyoliciousness To be completely transparent, I also use a secondary screen I use for productivity. When I play games etc.... that screen gets put away
@@FG-td4vs totally fair :)
Oh. My. God. Sea of Thieves on this thing looked outstanding
Thanks for your Videos
Just ordered mine! :)
This monitor looks like it's come from the future 🔮🙂
looks like flying orbs from Oblivion...Tom Cruise film
Me: *just very recently purchased the latest refreshed g9* Samsung: “Hey guys, I gonna bring out the brand new neo G9!!” Me: O.O …
And can you share your experience?
@@premierde Well, to keep it short: My comment didn‘t age well. I had two repairs due to connection/signal issues, both failed, and returned it to get my hard-earned money back. The monitor didn‘t last me even half a year, and the scanlines were annoying, too. Not trying to influence you, but personally I‘m happy that I got rid of it. It‘s sad, because „on paper“ it could have been a glorious monitor.
One thing I'm curious about, what would be the maximum resolution/refresh rate of this monitor with a single HDMI 2.1 Connection?
Great video. I think I am sold on this. What chair are you using btw?
Great! A monitor that'll burn my eyeballs off in all directions at a fast framerate
lol right!?!?
Based on the specs, this rivals and even surpasses some high end TVs
You can probably get a gaming OLED TV which would have better response times and contrast for cheaper, but this is certainly a great option for those who prefer ultraiwide.
@@axel955555 Funny you mention that as I have an LG C9
@@jollama and I bet you're happy with it. Great gaming TV!
it's basically a neo qled tv in monitor format. so yeah it surpasses pretty much every lcd tv. but the aspect ratio and the curve are complete deal breakers to me. also the price. if it was a 32" flat screen and a third of the price it would have me interested. for now, i went with an lg c1 instead. so far so good.
I love ultrawide displays, I can't go back after having it, and this looks great ughhhh... I want.
man your chair, that is the absolute most premium looking chair i've seen.
But the most important question of all: What’s that wallpaper? I need that!
Yes, WE need that!
@@bdiddymack me too
It's not 5k though LOL Hate this kind of marketing.
I haven't seen any marketing materials say 5k, just DQHD.
@@Lead_Foot IT'S RIGHT IN THE TITLE!
Hi,you saw a good difference between the g9 before and the neo for the HDR?i sold they old one because the hdr was too dark and was nicer sdr, thank you in advance
When you do PBP does it drop both 27 inch segments to 60hz?
