THE HUMAN FUTURE: A Case for Optimism

Soundtrack: melodysheep.bandcamp.com/albu... Patreon: / melodysheep Change is coming. Humanity is entering a turbulent new era, unprecedented in both Earth and Human history. To survive the coming centuries and fulfill our potential as a species, we will have to overcome the biggest challenges we have ever faced, from extreme climate change, to rogue A.I., to the inevitable death of the sun itself.
The headlines make our chances look bleak. But when you look at our history and our tenacity, it's clear that humanity is uniquely empowered to rise to the challenges we face.
If we succeed, our potential is cosmic in scale. Incredible prosperity is within our reach. Being optimistic is not only justified, it's a powerful weapon in the fight for a higher future.

  • honestly, when I began this project, I was preparing to make a doomer-style "final warning" video for humanity. but over the last two years of research and editing, my mindset has flipped. it will take a truly apocalyptic event to stop us, and we are more than capable of avoiding those scenarios and eventually reaching transcendent futures. pessimism is everywhere, and to some degree it is understandable. but the case for being optimistic is strong... and being optimistic puts us on the right footing for the upcoming centuries. what say the people??

    • I like the video but the optimistic message is not justified tbh. We seriously need to change our economic systems to avoid disasters. even if WE (the west) survive the worst case scenario people in third world countries dont have the resources to live through climate change. Optimisim assumes we dont have to change and that trends will propel us to the future.

The most significant element that can save us is LOVE!!We as species must realise that without love, compassion and empathy we are all doomed!!If we understand that we are all connected as a universal soul without any borders then we can thrive, imho!!May all mankind find the light within which is the divine love and then glowing hearts and souls will unite in harmony and peace..into a glorious future ahead!!!

Glad the video covered everything from a solar flare stronger than the Carrington event knocking all the satellites and electricity out, to a gamma ray burst, to invading aliens to run away strange matter... when we're talking about thousands or millions of years that we will have to be constantly rolling the dice on in the future.

It's been this way for millenia. But what IS different is scary as hell... Earth needs triage. Two things stand out: the sixth great extinction is upon us. And the Doomsday Clock's at 90 seconds before midnight. Neither of these are, despite the ignorant opprobrium of the Dunning-Kruger brigade, fake news. It'll take the miracle of planetary unity to even begin to fix what ails us. How do we make that happen? Technology only seems to promote the guzzling of 'conspiratea'. Yet here we are sending tiny missives of hope and connectedness in comment sections. Fwiw. I'm very old and would give anything to know that the innocent children and animals' future was secure. Paz y luz 💫

When looking into behavioral sinks we see that withought conflict to make things intresting life begins to psychologicaly deteriorate thefor generating conflict making a utopia an impossible paradox... however like i have said this is helthey. mankind has become far too risiliant. There is almost nothing that could potentaly wipe us out withought us comming back only stronger. That being said i also think humanity is doomed to go extinct... not suddenly but gradualy. Nature has been the primary influence on our eveolution untill our self awearness was able to flip the scale making it so that we influenced natures evolution... and now the technology we have created will become a part of our evolution. Your cellphone is an extention of the hand desined to conviniently fit the human body... but what if we changed the human body... what if we drove the technolgy into ourslevs deeper and deeper until flesh and metal are but one and "human" is just a guidline. This is what will enharet the univers. A flud being capable of changin in anyway its mind sees nessisary.

    • Seriously. I always think of several of the topics of this video when people come at me with all the negativity and humans are evil and killing our planet angst. Without us natural selection will kill everything. Give us a couple centuries and you can pick and choose whatever extinct species you'd like to bring back if we still feel bad about the few thousand we took out.

    • well sometimes that negativity is fed to you to spark a reaction, and if you want a future like what was shown in the video, you better react (but in the favor of humanity, not CEO's)

    • You can only be fed it if you are seeking it out to consume. Choosing to hear the bs and fear mongering the media pushes is a choice. People need to stop allowing the media to control the narrative with fear and push to make them accountable. I do agree though, this type of media is very much needed, we need more positivity and open-mindedness for the future.

    • You and I are gonna die one day. We aren't animals. We didn't come from apes or bacteria. We are made in the likeness of the Most High God and out of the dust he has made us and breathed his spirit of life to us. That is how we are alive. Everything is designed by an intelligent designer and to think everything came from nothing is false. Jesus Christ 2000 years ago came to this world as the manifest incarnation of the Eternal God and after walking this earth for 33 years he died and rose again. He ministered with people for 40 days and went back to his throne. He is coming soon and its about time we all repent of our sins and transgressions. If today you hear his voice, don't harden your hearts (heb 3:15). He is able to give you eternal satisfaction and protect you forever and ever. He is the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. The first and the Last. 2 “Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done. 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End. 14 “Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city. 15 Outside are the dogs, those who practice magic arts, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood." Much love ❤

  • This video lifted something off my chest that I didn't even fully realize was there. Sure, I saw that things are generally looking grim. For years, I have been growing increasingly pessimistic about the world, about its future, and about humans in general. I found myself bitter and disappointed that the future was probably going to only be worse than the present. I looked back on the whole wide history of humanity and wondered if we had reached a peak and would proceed to destroy ourselves through ignorance, vindictiveness, and spite. Given all of that, I thought that I was doing a pretty good job of just trying to keep on going and do what I could about problems that are too big for me to solve. Yet watching this video made me feel such a wave of relief. I don't have to worry that this is it, that there isn't a purpose to anything I do because it's just going to be swallowed up by the greedy maw of extinction. I can dream of a better future and trust that someone will see it. I can weave my own story and know that something of it will last into that golden age. I can live and believe that there is some purpose behind the struggle. Thank you, Melodysheep, for this beautiful video. It means more to me than these scant, bare words could ever truly express.

They have HIGHLY interesting dialogue. Melody more leans-on the 'extremely good at making you hold completely still for the entire video even though you have ADHD because the emotion/scale is so powerful' side. Disrupt leans more on extremely high quality dialogue that makes you talk about it for hours---and have a similar level of interest. They are like live-action and animation. Different mediums that can't be equally compared. TLDR: Melodysheep's visuals/audio make you talk for hours about the video, Disrupt's unique presentation of ideas through dialogue makes you talk for hours about the video.

  • Our path as a species to survive is not to become multiplanetary, but to eliminate the first four risks that all hinge on one thing. Our greed and desire for more. Four major risks, all stemming from the human desire for more, are easily combated if we slow down, become self-sufficient, use technology very thoughtfully and slowly. Become more mindful in all things and not always want more and faster, but sustainable and thoughtful.
