  • I love how Mizu and Swordfather interact. A bit of tough love, but also helping her become strong and skilled. Because of him allowing her to stay on as an apprentice, she grows strong from hammering steel. And by allowing her to practice, she learns multiple styles and how to exploit their weaknesses, employing, in my eyes, a hybrid style. And what's more, he doesn't care about her being of mixed metal, knowing she has the chance to be better than what she thinks.

Makes the story even more incredible inside and out. 19:36 Love the little details of their historic lifestyle and rules here. It brings the country and its society to life. We’re so indulged in the series because we feel like we’re visiting a trip back in time by experiencing these liminal moments. 23:20 You not only learn about the characters in this show but just more on their culture. • 23:17 This may sound strange, but i found it touching how kind the brothel girls were with Ringo. Like, they obviously saw his disability and could tell he was a little on the slow, naive side, but rather than mock him for his disability or make him feel bad for being inexperienced, they go out of their way to be considerate and slowly guide him through the process. Sure, it can be argued that they were extra nice because the Samurai woman paid them handsomely in advance, but I like to think they would’ve been gentle with him regardless

Every one of Mizu's struggles is one that I can understand. I have blue eyes, and have very Japanese features. It is easy to see that I am mixed. I have never been enough for my family. My white family finds me too 'oriental' and my Japanese family finds me too whitewashed. My father was always called a White devil by my mother's side. And I am in the middle of a legal battle with my father for all that he has done. It has taken all I have not to want the revenge that Mizu seeks. Her happiness being destroyed by that thirst for revenge makes me understand what could have happened if I took that path. This show means the world to me. Thank you for Blue Spirit for making such a piece of art that speaks so much to my soul. Thank you Michael Green and Amber Noizumi for making me feel seen.

And they didn't even make a big deal out of it. It was just "Yup, we're naked now. " Idk, it just felt normal and natural, not something meant for the audience to get risen up about.

At the first episode all Akemi wanted was to be happy with the man she loves while Taigen wanted honor and something great for himself. But at the end of the show, after all their struggles and all that they have been through, Taigen only wanted to spend the time with Akemi in peace while Akemi wanted to be something bigger than herself. The way their ambition reversed is just so......poetic.

She doesn't have special powers - her skill as a swordswoman comes from pure grit and effort. She isn't beautiful, but she has a cool androgynous look that makes her unconventionally attractive. She has obvious character flaws, as she lacks empathy and appears mildly sociopathic. She has a good mix of positive and negative traits. She's interesting. And she's extraordinary, but still believable and relatable.

  • Absolute must-see series and a true gem on Netflix. Blue Eye Samurai completely surprised and overwhelmed me with its story and character depth, the previously unseen quality of animation (motion-captured with real life martial arts artists), and the artistic look which reminds me of Zelda and Studio Ghibli (Chihiro etc). The storytelling is complex and is surprising in every episode, the characters - including the foes - kept me excited and had me participate in their fate. A true masterpiece which kept me focused from episode 1 to 8, something I have not experienced in a long time, no matter how many new shows appear on Netflix every year. If Netflix does not continue this series with a season 2, I will be greatly disappointed.
