The speed he dragged the deer into the water gave me chills
Rip Little guy
It’s that tail build of solid muscle
It is usual they drag the pray just in to the deep water.
Cool blooded.
I'm glad it was a Deer and Not a Human or Me.
2:04-2:25 The cinematography in this segment is on another level. The sinister build-up with the high strings over the gradual realisations of the deer is hair-raising, and I also love how the initial shot of the croc finally lashing out is from a bird's eye view and the caught individual's predicament is then revealed up close.

I've never seen a crocodile dig itself into wet mud before -and- further camouflage itself using the existing green vegetation. ... A truly terrifying ambush predator it is!
Fr. Very adaptable as well
Very intelligent animals
Crocodiles are masters when it comes to stealth attacks.
Fun fact- crocodiles are actually intelligent enough to use tools in the same way as this. Both these mugger crocodiles and American alligators can collect lures with which to 'fish' for birds. They recognise when birds are looking for twigs to make their nests, then seek out twigs that they think the birds will like, balance them on their heads, and hide under the nesting trees to attack any bird that mistakes the trap for easy building materials!
This footage originates from Sri Lanka, my homeland. In certain instances, these predators may pose a threat to individuals walking through the paddy fields, particularly in desolate areas where they are unable to find prey. There have been a few recent incidents of such encounters. Currently, crocodiles have extended their presence to rivers and are occasionally spotted on beaches as well. If you plan to visit my beautiful country and decide to take a dip in the rivers, exercise caution. It is advisable to seek information from local villages before immersing yourself in the river.
This is Sri Lanka, my homeland. BBC Earth has created an outstanding video showcasing crocodile hunting behavior in the heart of a forest, featuring excellent camera angles. I have a deep appreciation for this content. Many thanks to the BBC. I extend an invitation for them to revisit Sri Lanka, as there are abundant natural resources waiting to be captured.
Maybe they can interview you.
Do you drive a cab Sir?

As you know, the law requires that anytime you refer to Sri Lanka, it must be followed by "formerly Ceylon". I'm letting you go with a warning.
This was probably the best hunt in the documentary imo
It was already dead. These are always staged
Absolutely stunning cinematography by the BBC
That's what I thought. It's on another level.
check out my cinematography
Excellent, BBC natural history unit keep surpassing itself with new wildlife action shots.
This is a certified crocodile classic!🐊

May Mr. Attenborough live for many more years to come.
If he does, he'll surpass 100.
With the power of AI he will remain immortal because people will be able to use his voice forever on documentaries.

Just when you thought they couldnt get any deadlier... Truly a remarkable hunting machine.
I love how mercilessly dedicated they are in getting what they want.
@@TonyEnglandUK It is either that or death. For now, for an animal to continue living, some other living thing must die.
I like how the rest of the herd set him up. They ran away like 'sike, not me!' He was a sacrifice for them.
They didn’t set the deer up lol they were just fortunate to get away first
I cannot imagine how much preparation went into this creative direction for filming this.
Spectacular videography to capture this. As a Sri Lankan I am amazed at the diversity of our wildlife
There is also Equity & Inclusion and no racism allowed between the species.

@@user-du1et2up9cbro. Exactly. I had always kn9wn about Sri Lankan leopards. But never knew about mugger crocodiles
I just saw this on the Television. What a clever crocodile . Planet Earth three . A classic .
Being slightly slowed with the drone shot it looks like the deer stopped struggling at once...then you realise that's just the sheer power of over 4 metres of *beast* hauling out towards the deep end and you'd look like a limp shred of flesh, too. Gosh I'm glad I'm not a Sri Lankan deer.
Unfortunately they some times attack humans too. There have been a few recent incidents of such encounters in my country Sri Lanka.
May be in some other life dude
@@myvillagebirds I guess I'm glad I'm not not a Sri Lankan
@@myvillagebirdsI mean if you live or visit those areas you should probably fear any large body water or anywhere a croc hangs around
Crocodiles are the most terrifying predator on earth (my opinion)
Because they eat more humans than any other predator
@@Predation_records exactly. I honestly didn’t know that but I Nile Crocodiles are the most aggressive and not all fatalities get reported

Wow that male at the beginning (0:45) definitely isn't a 5m Mugger, the later one hunting the deer could be. The digging behaviour however is awesome to showcase.
Crocodiles are savage and ruthless in how they hunt, and are also lightening quick in the way they take down their prey. One of the finest predators around.
Incredible aerial shot
2:20-2:25 I love how the initial shot of the croc finally lashing out is from a bird's eye view and the caught individual's predicament is then revealed up close.
Superb.
Croc intelligence in the age of AI! A magnificent archosaur! The image captured by drone is an unequivocal prowess of BBC.
Muggers, an extremely underrated species.
Didn't expect to see you here
@@Predation_records lol hi
It shows crocodiles have adapted to it's surroundings like a pro & it give me chills what this crocodile used to doin an era of dinosaurs & what kind of predators dinosaurs used to be if they were the king pin of size and speed.
People who didn't watch this episode should know that this badass dude walked into these waters like a notorious gangster. His walk said alot about his background. How many crocodiles have you seen hunting. 100? 1000? 10000? He's that one exceptional in 10000. Digging in and Using vegitation as a perfect camouflage tells how smart he really is. You learn this when you face hundreds of failures and then you start using your brain differently than the norms.
Deer needs water to survive and crocodile needs deer to survive. Both fighting for lives
true, that is the nature.
Living Dinasour indeed!!! Terrifying, but at the same time gorgeous.
The harshness of the dry season has brought crocodile intelligence to a new level
crazy how crocodiles/aligators have been the same for millions of years, reach their peak back then
Its the first time i saw a footage from srilankan wildlife. I think bbc should include more diverse places like this. Anyway thank you for your hard work bbc crew.
What do you do Mr. Crocodile? "Well, you can say that I'm a fisherman, but in reverse."
As someone who is working on a crocodile documentary for past two years, I could sense the team effort and planing that might have gone into this.
I'm absolutely fascinated with crocodiles & alligators. I'm from Southeast Texas near Galveston and we had plenty of gators in our bayou, but those were tiny compared to a saltie! A true Apex predator who is smart as a whip! The speed for which he grabbed that deer, then shot off with it in his mouth had to be watched several times. Nobody would've guessed that a giant man eating lizard would be hiding in a tiny water hole using vegetation camo, then await his prey and ambush with the speed of lightening! Just wow!!!
It is a freshwater crocodile and not a saltie. Saltwater ones can even be larger.
It isn' t really anything new with alligators or crocodiles. They are actually using their own brumation technique which is their own version of a hibernation technique when there really is a dry season with no water and just wait until it rains. This is just their own adaptation.
Great video footage BBC Earth ❤
Did you know during the drought season when the water dries up? Some crocs dig themselves into the sides of the riverbanks? Once in? they slow there heart rates down to 3 beats per minute? And wait for months until the rain returns ???
Holy cow that’s actually terrifying, the fact that it’s actually learned to camouflage itself. Combine that with those highly sensitive pressure sensors in its snout, this species of crocodile likely rarely misses.
Cow’s are not holy; they make good burgers!!
That 3mins clip gave me thrill plus the add up the narration of sir david, better than watching a 2hr movies😅
This Jurassic Park reboot is straight fire, that croc deserves an academy award for best make up
Crocodile exists. Evolution : yo you guys good?, need anything? Crocodile s for 95 million years ago : nahh we good we have everthing
The alligator will see you later, but the crocodile will see you in a while 🐊
Yess. 😂
Nice one, that deer is now reunited with his friend the crocodile.
Its incredible how can a repltile be so smart...when to attack how to attack how he planned it in his mind is something crazy for me to experience
Well, reptiles are smarter than mammals.
@@Polosatiy_Varan aside from primates and cetaceans
@@jross9553 All cetaceans and most primates are low-intelligent.
mugger croc: "you've the right to remain silent, anything you say can and will be used and court of law"
Nice job on the crew for not being proactive and saving the deer😂
Amazing footage! Crocodiles are fascinating, and some are quite dangerous, like the Nile crocodile with a man-eater fame. But still, our camera team followed these crocodiles underwater, going through their tunnels and managed to get unique shots of their underwater world and some pretty cool close-ups!
most people feels bad for dear, ignoring the hunger of croc.
Though would you think the same if the crocodile attacked a human? I would but most people would support the human for some reason.

I always saw deer to be more difficult to catch than antelope I see antelopes are often calm but can get fast, agile or even defensive when needed, deers are like always at guard and will run away at smallest Crack and they won't even fight back they just run I never got that why 😂
