Welcome back to my channel!! Today's were taking a peek through Kim Kardashian's Vogue House Tour. Is this minimalism or solitary confinement?! I have a lot of thoughts about this one and I don't know if I can get behind some of the decisions made here. What do you think of Kim K's home? Would you want to live here?

  • She never struck me as someone who has good and elegant taste in clothing. Her home decor is just as sad and boring to me. The enormous scale of this home made this design even worse - a massive space of cold and dark nothingness. I too, like many of us, have a chaotic, busy life and would like to come home to a warmly lit place and envelope myself in a soft throw by the fire on a cozy, velvety sofa… I need signs of life and nature in my surroundings. Give me some fragrant, beautiful flowers, a big bowl of fresh fruits, great big and small luscious plants. This place is too sterile and hospital like. No, thank you. Decor styles like Minimalism and Bohemian are too extreme. They’re neither artistic nor practical in my views.

  • I am devoted to the idea of Minimalism as a philosophy. I think of a Buddhist monk whose possessions consist of a bowl, a robe, a cap, and shoes. but remember the monk’s robe may be vermilion or saffron, his bowl carved from a beautiful piece of wood or bamboo, his sandals a deep satisfying brown or black or patchwork. Texture? For sure;think of the robe’s folds. But interior design Minimalism seems to have devolved into a quest for ways to eliminate function, personality, creativity, and comfort. I admire the quality of the craftsmanship and the beauty of the materials in KK’s home, but, ultimately, I wouldn’t want to live there, or even visit for very long.

The lines of the architectural detail also has the stamp of its designers Oana Stanescu and Dong Ping Wong, a very curvy beige version of the duos all gray linear design of the brand's Off White Singapore show room. Very Kanye I would think. Kardashian though also seems to be leaning towards the less Hollywood LA look that most American mansions seem to prefer as she hired Tadao Ando and Kengo Kuma -for her new home. Two brilliant Japanese designers whose aesthetics tend to lean towards natural materials, organic shapes, and the Japanese minimalistic look.

So, she rented a one bedroom- with truly nothing. She became temporarily ill, and needed help. Our coworkers went over to her place, and she had a mattress on the floor, with her clothes also in a big on the floor. It wasn't noticeable in another person's filled single family home. She got rid of clothing hangers, dishes, a table & chairs to sit / eat on- everything! Yikes! Minimalism can be artful, it doesn't have to mean totally empty- She should have just rented out a furnished (or partially) furnished place to at least function-

    • “Creatives”? Really? What is she creating? Her mother controls the entire empire, Kim just shows up and plays her part. There are literally no signs of intelligent life in this home/TV set. Imho, the only thing this soulless space could possibly inspire is a mental breakdown.

  • You hit the nail on the head about the minimalism being all a public front and putting all of the displays of excessive consumption in hidden parts of this humongous mansion. The kitchen is so clean because it is huge, there is I believe an expansive pantry behind the main show kitchen, and a complete commercial-style kitchen in another part of the house where the actual cooking takes place! Additionally, there are multiple closet rooms in her bedroom suite that are in total larger than an average American home, and playrooms/bedrooms where all the kid's toys are hidden. I actually really like the minimal gallery quality, but would fill it with more texture and color through art and furniture. The whitewash plaster finishes and light wood/stone tones throughout are such a nice minimal blank slate that really could showcase more interesting pieces that show some life and personality.

  • I'm not even sure "lacking taste" is quite the right phrase for it. If this space was the headquarters of a company, or a museum, or a spa, the concept wouldn't be quite as bizarre. But as a home, it just feels cold and uninviting and somehow unnerving. Not to mention how impractical it must be, especially for someone who has young children as she does.

  • I would get a panic attack from entering this place. Feels like a home Dexter would build? side note : I knew of a lady who had the emptiest bathroom ever - she was storing away everything, soap and towels included, after using it. It felt strange at first, but it was her neat freak zone where she wanted nothing to break her peace, and I got used to the process. But : all other areas were "normal", and the bathroom was small.
