This Might be One of the Nicest Celebrity Homes on AD (Vanessa Hudgens I’m Actually Shocked?)

If you've been here for a while you know how rare it is for me to not have anything bad to say about celeb homes but WOW. Vanessa Hudgen's home has been done SO well. From the actual house to the design and even the art, I can really appreciate what's going on here. What are your thoughts? Do we love her home or hate it?

  • You don't have to be rich to own original artwork. Even in a small to mid-sized city there are local artists whose prices are within most people's budget. I have artist friends so I'm lucky enough to have been gifted with art pieces. You can also find one-of-kind pottery and paintings in second-hand stores.

    • I agree 💯 %. Of course, if you love an original piece that you can't afford or no longer available then check to see if that art has prints. Depending on the company they work with for prints, they offer prints to canvas. If both print options are available, then I suggest looking at the style & medium used to pick the material for your prints. Another thing to consider is seeing if a local/ nearby college or university that has an art department if they have an art sale scheduled (usually at the end of the semester or school year)

  • This home feels very organic and settled to me. We have a lot of $$$$$$$$$$$$$ people coming in to my state and it totally shows in the $$$$$$$$ homes they're building. Her home just feels like every part of it has been here for a while, and i always have to respect folks who don't do the "look at me, i have all this money!!" thing. Also, re local artists, another great local group to support are art teachers, especially the K-12 ones. They obviously know their stuff or they wouldn't be teaching, and they don't get paid much, so i'm sure they'd appreciate it. Great video as always, DD :)

    • It was built for Cecil B De Mille's mistress. His peak years were from the 1920's-1950's, so the home was likely from that era. Interestingly, Cecil did all the great Biblical films- The 10 Commandments etc- looks like he had no problem breaking at least one of them!

Not to be cynical…but I think she’s already sold in the last year or so…moved into a much larger new build McModern mansion in the Hollywood Hills. • My first impression was one of surprise; it actually felt homey and not overdone; full of character and charm. I like how simple the living room is and how it’s filled with pieces full of history. Its light and bright and welcoming. It seems like she is actuallly filling her home with pieces she truly loves, instead of just having the latest, greatest, and trendiest pieces. Lol couldn’t help but notice the bowl of lemons and limes 😂 must be an AD signature staging piece 😂 😂 I love the rustic feel of the kitchen, with the green cabinets and the gorgeous work table in the middle of the room. Again, to me at least, it feels homey and not super over the top or glamorous. Honestly, the bathroom to me just doesn’t flow with the style in the rest of the house. It feels too contemporary. I do love the marble, but don’t really care for the black. That backyard looks heavenly!

In their muted, or very deep variants, they're just as neutral as gray, or white, even more than black I'd argue as they are both so ubiquitous in nature. If it was a saturated emerald green, maybe less so. This soft sage is pretty timeless. We've seen it in almost every decade and style of design.

Even if we have some snow storms (less and less every years, honestly), we don't have important earthquakes, landslides, volcanic eruptions, floods (just a few), hurricanes, tornadoes (rarely), tsunamis nor cyclones.

I think if she had more of a family, or friends she hung out with regularly for dinner parties it would have had a warmer feel to it. Being from Louisiana w/ French architecture that was her moment to shine and show off while keeping it classy/ homey in the dinning room. 9/10. Mostly for the dinning area and out of place mirror chair. However, the peace she must feel in that house must be amazing!!!

  • I think the part that I liked the best about Vanessa’s house is that she seems to have collected quite a few pieces herself. Maybe that’s why it feels more like a home rather than a design showcase that is unliveable. I thought it was charming and I got the vibe that nothing was too “precious” to be used. Now Phoenix, I am no designer, but I thought the dining room could be given a better feeling with better styling (I was going to say it would be better if it was simply styled, but that is mean and I’m sure untrue). Every other room looks like it’s been lived in except the dining room. It looks like she chose the right table, but then just plunked a floral arrangement on it and walked away. Some soft gauzy window treatments would soften it a bit and then add some quirky art pieces. I know 100% that you could have styled that table so much better; the rustic vibe is indicating it’s seen some stuff so style it to show some of that. As a bit of a postscript, I giggled when you found the Cali weather enticing. We live in the NWT just below the Arctic Circle and are heading to CA for a vacation later this month. I’m betting the airbnb will have just as inspired decorating as Vanessa’s dining room.nn😜🇨🇦

The tile would have looked much better with A LOT of that same exact green in the paper. A hint of that color and it still looks out of place. The exterior gardens are so outstanding, she should have noted the landscape architect that did that work. NO, an interior designer did not design those gardens.

The skillset it takes to create great wealth or achievement doesn't necessarily translate into having great vision for a home. The other way to look at it, they are employing many people in the design space who without them wouldn't make a living.

  • Aren't the ivy covering the whole wall damaging the wall over time? I know for sure that they are a nightmare to remove, because I had to do it myself once :(. "The sexual bathroom" had me cackling, because I've known guys who loved that vibe, for obvious reasons, lol.
