I've watched a few reaction videos to this videorecorded performance of Gigi reportedly by vocal teachers/coaches, but you are the first and only one who actually provided some technical/technique commentary, which I found entertaining and fascinating. About Gigi, I had to reflect on why I am so taken with her and her voice and this is what I have found. She has an incredible sense of fluidity to her performance of a song. Not once do I think, Gosh, that was too much of a dynamic drop, or she didn't build up very well to the bridge when the rest of the band was, etc. She's right, smack dab in the pocket with the song as if she owns it -- she story-tells with her singing. I also love her phrasing and use of vibrato, giving her a very dark, smoky jazz sound/vibe, and at other times more of an R&B sound/vibe, and her pitch is so right-on -- wow. Her voice is also so clear that I never have to question the lyrices that she sings -- this is not the case with a lot of singers due to the way that they articulate, enunciate, or phrase the lyrics. Stage presence: I totally agree with you. Gigi seems love singing and it really shows, and the audience can pick up on the joy that she feels while singing. She was born to sing and it's like she's in the zone when she sings and everything about her performance just flows perfectly, without one hitch. SMH... I'm just so impressed with her and I wish that a wider audience could enjoy what we enjoy about her and her lovely voice and performances. And, lastly, Gigi's singing oftentimes gives me chills because it touches me that deeply. Crazy. Cheers!

She sings the first part very straight, the second time, she opens up, changing things up, with the vocal changes, rhythm, timing, and by the third time around when you don't think she can make it even better, she loves to let her voice and her mastery take over, without seeming to think about what comes out, except that it is absolute genius. A master of her voice.

great reaction! you mentioned your impression was that she's like modern karen carpenter, well she nailed every carpenters song she covered so far! I recommend you react to her 'i won't last a day' rendition if you want to hear more of that sound. and i also agree when you said she have so many qualities to her voice, she has that certain talent to sound like the original singer but not exactly alike, you'll get what i mean if you listen to her cover of alanis morissette's 'ironic' or like a-paramore/avril lavigne song. and also a quick fun fact: gigi mentioned she loves exploring genres. she's done jazz, alternative rock, and you want to see some awesome scat she does it really good in her cover of frank sinatra's 'fly me to the moon'.

Have you heard her superstar? She’s got a stand alone video from last year or more back that’s the coolest arrangement I’ve heard. And I was raised on Luther. She’s done lesser versions of that song that are good. But that one stand alone is a great for her and her side pieces. She’s like I made her in the basement with power tools. While her "Through The Fire" cover is her most viewed to date, I find Gigi's rendition of "Better Days" to be my favorite not just because the multi-faceted colors in her voice is in full display but it has also shown the "storytelling" aspect of her singing. The swag / attitude in which she performed the song is also a plus for me. Definitely worthwhile to check that one out.

You know ma'm the band members live in the house of Gigi. She doesn't allow them to go places because of Covid 19. She fears that someone going outside might get the virus or have a close contact with a carrier. This is her way of protecting her mother who is under treatment for cancer. Her mother is under chemotherapy so her immune system is so low. I admire Gigi raised alone by her mother and trying to make both ends meet through youtube. Lucky for her because she was hired by a TV noontime show recently.

You know ma'm the band members live in the house of Gigi. She doesn't allow them to go places because of Covid 19. She fears that someone going outside might get the virus or have a close contact with a carrier. This is her way of protecting her mother who is under treatment for cancer. Her mother is under chemotherapy so her immune system is so low. I admire Gigi raised alone by her mother and trying to make both ends meet through youtube. Lucky for her because she was hired by a TV noontime show recently.
