Simply put it's one of the greatest songs ever written and performed. It was released n the fall of 1964 and composed by Holland Dozier Holland, and was the Four Tops first hit. It reached No.11 on the billboard charts and has now passed into folklore as classic definitive motown. Masterfully led by the great Levi Stubbs and atmospherically backed by Fakir, Payton and Benson.
Kids, this is what REAL music sounds like!
Married my wife in 1986 ,first Dance i told her baby i need your lovin ,2023 and still need her loving ❤
I'm 72 years old. At this time, in this world, the only redeeming value of the human race is music. This is one beautiful example.
same age as you ,they were great
Never thought of it like that... but, you're right! 👍 The Tops helped get me through a difficult time in my life - I was drafted in 1968 right at the height of the Vietnam War. Music was my salvation - and what great music there was in the 60s! ✌
This song will be 60 years old in 2024 It was released in July 1964 The four tops were a fantastic legendary motown band 👌 👏
Just as GREAT AS EVER
This 70 year old white lady still tears up at this song! From the greatest summer of my life because of my first real love. Motown forever.
Preach sister from a 70 year old black
Omg,me too!!! I was in love with a guy named Darry❤️
I’m 70 too. Motown the happiest time of my life in high school with my football star boyfriend. It brings me right back
This 62-year-old white man loves this music hell of a lot better than the black music today which I don't even call music but it's nice you found Love and I hope you're doing well now Merry Christmas to you and yours and a Happy New Year
I'm 43 and I absolutely ADORE Motown! I wish I could travel back to the"Summer of Soul" and be with you.

Levi Stubbs NEVER gets mentioned among the best soul voices of all time and it's a shame. He's amazing.
best voice in rock and roll history
Truth Indeed
Yes!!
Totally agree one of the best ever!!!
He was a class act. Levi was clearly the star of the group, but he always thought of the group before himself. Total legend. 🙂
I’m 69 almost 70 years old and still can’t get enough of my oldies. So great full for the internet
Why? Why ? Why can't they make music like this today?????just incredible!!!! I love it !!!!
Because people has change. We are living today in another era. 😭 They can't make such music like this anymore. 😭
It requires talent
@@jessebarfield3419 rap is no talent, its only about gangs drugs and shootings.
No talent
Lost their soul man.
When you read the history of this group it's totally amazing, thier love for each other was unmeasurable, they got along with each better than family did, and they are not related, no ego issues, no drug issues, the only thing that kept them apart was death, it was even said they never argued, a testament of time.
Yesss! That's where it's at. KEEP ON KEEPIN' ON. From a 63 years young Honky Cat, from Motown. Peace out. ✌️
MY Favorite Motown Group !!!!!
They need a movie.
Rare
This is how a man should express himself to a woman. No profanity. No toxicity. No entitlement... Just pure love and affection. Ah, man. This song is EVERYTHING!!!! Music in its divine purity 💖

Keep listening and keep the music playing, from a72 year English man who first heard Motown about the same age.

You have excellent taste.
One of my favourites. Motown is in my opinion the greatest record label in American history. An insane amount of #1 hits and you can always immediately tell it's a motown song. Truly a national icon.
Totally agree, loved motown from the age of 9..xx
Yep, there was nothing like Tamla Motown ..... just some of the greatest songs you are ever likely to hear.

It don't get any better❤ Coming from a 63 years young, colorblind Honky from Motown!
It's not an opinion but rather a fact.

No doubt about that!

beautiful pain.
God, what a harmony they had. Four once-in-a-lifetime singers on the same group
And the 3 girls in the back. Rich, isn't it? Indeed.
The only thing that kept them apart was death.
Im almost 80 and Im still lovin it in October, 2022. One of the best of Motown's Four Tops. The drums, the piano, the amazing harmony, the incredible voice of Levi Stubbs. Mmmmm..
73 years still live their songs❤
I'm 68, and remember when this was at the top of the charts, It's still make me feel like the first day I heard it at the record shop. 💕🐞💕
Loved radio back then.
For you then 🌹 enjoy.
Good music back then
Anyone still listening to this MOTOWN CLASSIC in 2020
Yes I am
Heck YEAH 😃😃😃😃😃😃😃
Oh, hell yea!!
Right here!
Amen! This what we NEED right now!!
Just leaving for Vietnam when these guys made this great music. Many of "the brothers" would gather in the stairwell of barracks and sing these Motown greats. I would sleep like a baby. Wonder what those barracks sound like today?
They were a real talented group they don’t make good music like this nowadays. What’s your favorite song from the group?
An era when music was worth listening to.
Like all eras
My first date with my husband of 40 years, when I was 13 years old in 1968, listening to the Four Tops @ the Forest Hills Tennis Stadium…forever love this song & All of their music💖💞💞
We need more brothers like this today, to many sing about murder and crime.
Sad isn't it?
Totally agree
They’re just holding a mirror up to society
You are right!
Or sexual degradation or violence against women. So many young men today think that love is emasculating. This this kind of R&B music we need to get back to.
I have played this song 12 times straight and counting. I cried lol I legit started crying thinking about how much I love My wife
You are just a hopeless romantic; and I feel ya. Just sent it to my wife who is away from me presently.
How sweet

This song is pure joy, sunshine, unfiltered human emotion, and folly. It makes existance worth it.

Amen. I tried to imagine a world without Barry Gordy, MoTown, Holland, Dozier, Holland, the Four Tops & THIS music AND I CAN'T DO IT.
I'm a 65 year old white boy and this was like hearing church bells going off. Still does. Tops areTops.
No better music than what Motown produced - we ALL really needed it! In the 60's music was one of the things that made us the same. MUSIC - the great equalizer.
We were all jamming in the 1960s, and it was a beautiful thing.
I'm a 66-year-old boy, and I agree!
Yes and color didn't matter. Why does it now?
It was magical! Very sophisticated arrangement. You can't classify Motown as soul or RnB. It's just Motown and nothing else ever sounded like it before or since. There was tons of good music back then but Motown played heavy in the soundtrack of our lives.
If the world wasn't back wards back then. I would love to live in that Era. The music they put their soul in it
My grandson loves this music and he’s only 28 but he got it from me! At 66 almost 67, I was able to enjoy great music from my infancy!

There's not another group that could have pulled this off. This is perfection!
That is so true. Here in the UK it was covered by a group called The Fourmost. It was the version I grew up listening to. And then one day I found this!!! Perfection!
These guys set the standard for oldies music! Barry Gordy knew exactly what he was doing when he signed them to Motown. If u love this song go see Motown the musical it’s awesome!

Timeless music.
The movie “YES DAY” brought me here I love this song!!!!!
People don't get it twisted. Motown was a monster that could not be contained! I was 6/7 years old when this song came out and it was just another banger from Motown. One after another they just never stopped. I was a kid from the bronx New York and my life seemed magical because of this highly sophisticated new music. Record companies went out of business because they couldn't compete with Motown. All races were affected by this music and it kinda gave us a bond as I remember it. The world will never be like it was back then. The butcher the bike shop the deli the department stores the school the transistor radios. Everybody played this song. It made you feel so good. That ghostly sound of the piano in the background. James Jamersons upright bass just pounding on every beat. Those finger snaps! Ahh you should have been there.
TRUTH INDEED AMEN 🙏
I was so lucky to grow up when they made GREAT music.
Rest in peace Lamont Dozier, co writer of this amazing song

Let me say this. Whoever is playing the piano. Is KILLING IT! BEAUTUFUL STUFF!
The Funk Brothers killed every instrument!
The funk brothers set the standard for rock and roll studio musicians. Later on the folk rock people were borrowing Elvis Presley's band for the same perfection on the sound. "For what its worth" by Buffalo Springfield is but one example.
Look up The Funk Brothers The in studio musicians and band at Hitsvile/Motown also the Andantes the in studio back up singers

I was born in 1990... Way after this generation. But this song really does tell us the beauty of the 60's. Beautiful.
Hello welcome to the real world ....
Who cares what year you were born in? Music is immortal
Some of the 60's were awesome. Wish i had been alive to see it first hand but woodstock was great
I was at Woodstock too.
Times were rough but we had the best music.
Now that's the distinctive Motown sound. Love it
The greatest band for me . Levi stubbs was pure genius and remained loyal to the band. What more can i say ?
Levi Stubbs. Greatest voice of all time backed by amazing harmonies. What more can you ask.
LYRICS Baby, I need your lovin' Baby, I need your lovin' Although you're never near Your voice I often hear Another day, 'nother night I long to hold you tight 'Cause I'm so lonely Baby, I need your lovin' Got to have all your lovin' Baby, I need your lovin' Got to have all you lovin' Some say it's a sign of weakness For a man to beg Then weak I'd rather be If it means having you to keep 'Cause lately I've been losing sleep Baby, I need your lovin' Got to have all your lovin' Baby, I need your lovin' Got to have all you lovin' Empty nights echo your name Whoa, sometimes I wonder Will I ever be the same? Oh yeah! When you see me smiling, you know Things have gotten worse Any smile you might see Has all been rehearsed Darling, I can't go on without you This emptiness won't let me live without you This loneliness inside, darling Makes me feel half alive Baby, I need your lovin' Got to have all your lovin' Baby, I need your lovin' Got to have all your lovin' Baby, I need your lovin' Got to have all your lovin'
Thank you so very much for the lyrics. Great appreciate it.
