  • Most frustrating thing has the been the community response to the whole thing. So many people talking about “you are not entitled to a re-match”. While i don’t disagree with the sentiment, the fact of the matter is MAJORITY of people not giving rematches is to retain points or because their Ego can’t take a loss. Tekken community is allergic to calling a spade a spade.

    • I don't rematch on ranked unless I am confident I can win. There is no reward in ranked for rematching someone. That is the game's fault, not the player's. Also, the way the points are given out are complete BS, nonsensical, and random. Wanna git gud by rematching? Play quick play. We didn't make the rules, the game devs did

      @AsukasSlave@AsukasSlave13 күн бұрын
    • Calling a spade a spade here is kinda funny given you are arguing from analogy. You demonstrate cognitive dissonance and allow your personal bias towards people not rematching you be dictated by what you PERCEIVE to be an ego loss. "So many people talking about 'you are not entitled to a re-match "... this would infer that "MAJORITY of people not giving rematches" are following this sentiment for their own personal reasons, but most likely as you claim, you are not entitled to a rematch.

  • Honestly I don't know why more fighting games don't take a note out of Killer Instinct's book and just force the best of 3 if you're in a ranked setting. Gold vs Killer or Killer vs Killer matches require one player to win two matches before they get any points. I'm a firm believer that this should be a standard going forward for all ranked modes, without limiting it to high ranks. Specifically because of this issue; the system calls you out for being a fraud if you can't adapt.

  • Losing is part of the fun, because then you can learn. Rank systems add this layer of intensity where people focus solely on the climb and are TERRIFIED of the fall, which is part of growing as a player, and even a person, in any setting. You gotta fail before you fly, but these fighting games with ladders inherently tell players they're bad or it's bad to lose through negative reinforcement and people with Max's mentality become the exception, not the rule, which flies in the face of fighting games as a whole.

    @ByrneBaby@ByrneBaby13 күн бұрын

In my case, I play a lot of gg strive these days, and in that game you can rematch up to two times before it backs out both players to the lobby. For me in strive, I generally rematch those 2 games. But a lot of times after the game sends us back to the lobby, I look for a new opponent instead of fighting the same person. This is because I often treat ranked mode like a tournament scenario, where I don't get a ton of time with the same person and have to adapt quickly. If I want repeated matches Ill go to non-ranked. If the tekken 8 situation that people are describing is like pol dipping after 1 game in strive, then I can see how that'd be annoying.

What I didn't expect was that any time my teammate and I were about to win, one of the two others would DC. It's something to DC on strangers you'll never meet, but in friendlies against folks you will generally run into again ? I actually didn't believe it at first, but after the third time in a row, there was little mistaking it. The guy in question was very toxic when he did win, as well. Still confuses me to this day, nobody was spamming or anything either, pretty basic matches all around. Other adjacent story, brought Melee to a party that one time, ended up having to leave for a few hours so I could only play a match against this guy I'd known for a few years before I had to go. Ended up winning, but not by a lot, cool match. Didn't want to boast so I kept it low key, and then left the Gamecube behind until I got back since they had nothing else planned and all. Turns out while I was away, the guy ravaged my controller (see the plastic making the joystick round ? He clawed that shit off, very thoroughly might I add) . A friend later told me he was enraged for a good while because I didn't, and he quoted, "celebrate enough for managing to beat him".

  • The part Max mentioned not wanting to beat up noobs hit ya boy with the offline nostalgia unlock. Bitd would legit rather someone straight stomping me than roll people who were inexperienced. It'd take 2 rounds at the arcade and I'd have to bow out cause I wasnt gonna take their coin or waste mine. And if it was a friend, at the house, who I'd want to have fun, would legitimately give self a handicap (often without mentioning) just to make it close and hype up their play. Then slowly add in stuff, but tell em "Hey you see when I do this? Hit that button there." and then tell em I shouldnt have told them that as I continued to be punished by them. A few even got interested to pursue getting better afterwards and legitimately got good to whip up on me. Know this is mostly a casual perspective but that's 90% of what FGs should feel like for those coming into it. Online makes it a lil less personal now because you're not there next to em, but it's great to have cells of communities that still do that. Not every intention will hit, but who knows, that one casual that does vibe with it might turn out to be the next hardcore FGC bro that pays it forward.

I thought that as you climb higher people would be more incline to play the game honestly (not plugging and following through with the best 2 out of 3). I also want to call out the Tekken 8 ranking system kind of encourage people to not follow through with the 2 out of 3 matches more at the higher ranks because they made the rank point gain system in a way that you need to be on a win streak to rank up in the higher ranks. So if someone wins/lose a close match, it does make sense to not gamble on a close match, but rather so find someone to stomp on just to get the win streak just to be able to climb.

Sure you unlock fight money for costumes, but there aren't that many items in the game so you do it pretty quick and the battle pass sucks. Fighting games really need to take a page from CoD. A lot of ppl don't care whether they win or lose, they just want to unlock camos. Fighting games need a camo like grind or just other modes besides ranked and casual. • I get being pissed when if ppl do a 1 and done on ranked. Its proper form to give them the rematch. Here's the thing though. Once you get to the blue levels, if you lose 3 ranked games in a row you lose 1k points on the 3rd game no matter the rank. Even below blue there's the fact that you lose the same amount of points to people ranked above you, and lose fewer points if you lose to ppl ranked below you. The biggest reason I'll skip rematches isn't even the opponent, its the stages. If I'm playing Kazuya, my big damage relies entirely on there being a wall. So if I get colloseum or whatever the tree place is, I don't get the wall. I don't have combos to get them close enough to the wall, so I gotta compromise by going for reset setups which I have very few of. And this gets even more infuriating when you're up against Dragunov or Lee who can just carry you to just shy of the wall from center stage off of their combos. In short, if I replay on those stages I am effectively handicapping myself. A lot of ppl in here talk about how you should just rematch to learn... but this ranking system doesn't encourage that.

  • The most casual games being Tekken, MK and Smash having the most one-and-dones, or BM in general, makes sense. Many casuals have the wrong mindset and hop online to get a quick dopamine rush like in many other genres. And in those it's mostly defined by "winning". Having a healthy, competitive relationship with FGs requires a different one though which is finding the fun in the little things you manage to do in a match and discover new things about your character. But those tend to get overshadowed when you only look at the bigger goal of winning.

    • Worth Noting that if the person one and doning is a casual (and it is not always) , this isn't necessarily because of the L. Many casuals just aren't aware that there is a such etiquette in the FGC and just want to fight a bunch of different people. I didn't think about it myself before I started watching FG videos (thankfully I don't really play online anyway, so I didn't cause too much trouble) , and when I told a friend playing SF6 online that he should rematch, he just went "hey, that makes sense, never thought about it" and started rematching. In fact, it's especially likely if they don't particularly care about the L, they don't really care to find out who is the truly without a doubt the best between them and the random person they're fighting online. Guess the best thing to do is to get the information out there in a way that it will be seen by the most people.

    • It's the 1v1 factor. In team based PVP or PVE games, you can have a bad match and still get carried by your team to a W, or vice-versa. It could be you picking up the slack from your teammates. In fighting games, it's always personal.

    • This is just andecdotal, but as a casual player idk if I agree that's the source. I've played a lot of Guilty Gear: Strive, which as far as I know has a pretty big casual audience, and people will ALWAYS rematch until the end, a lot of the time even coming back for extras after they lost. The only exception being if it was super uneven, but even then often they will come back for an ass kicking. Now part of the reason is probably that the ranking system is less punishing (until you get to max rank), but I'll get so many one-and-dones after THEY WON, even if it wasn't a super close match. As for other BM like teabagging and shit talking, it happens but is still very rare, much rarer than in Tekken 8.

Like quitting sucks but I don’t think there is a way to differentiate someone closing the game and it crashing so people could get the “bad apple” matchmaking through no fault of their own. It’s honestly the main reason I personally wasn’t playing much outside of player matches with friends cause I don’t want to start loading into a match and see that it is basically on a timer cause the random map we got is going to inevitably crash my game. • Generally, I think the best way to fight this problem is to simply allow players to see their opponents name, character, connection, and disconnect percentage and then let them decide if they want to play. Super simple, allows people to dodge characters they would DC against, allows everyone to see the rage quitters and avoid them, everyone's happy. Smash has the absolute worst online community. It wasn't always so bad, Smash 4 was good, but when Ultimate came out with the point system, just ruined everything. Almost everyone in Ultimate is a campy, rage quitting one and doner, its hilariously sad. Really makes me think the only thing that works for Smash players is hiding your ELO/rank whatever.

  • since its hard to decermine who quit, they should do something similar to the behaviour score from dota2. you start with a perfect score of 100%. every time a disconnect happens, both players loose points, every game that is played in full recopers your score a bit. the matchmaking system tries to match people with similar behavior scores. people that occasionally face quitters recover their scores, while the quiters score sinks further. it should be a bit more finegrained than that explanation, but thats the gist of it.

  • On the VS screen before the match starts, both players lose two sets worth of losing points. As points after winning are worth more, if you win two matches you're up, if you win one but lose two you're also where you should be. If you win one and back out you're still down, the person that stayed then gets their pot for the next set back so they are not penalised. Also, when entering Ranked you have to select One and Done, or First to Two. If you select One and Done your rank climbs at 1/3 the speed of First to Two, or they are two seperate leader boards. This could be implemented into any fighting game. Thoughts?

  • One thing people seem to not grasp about these concepts is that, no, nobody is really entitled to a rematch or the runback for several reasons. Many folks usually go for the, "They do it to save their points/Rank", but consider that there are other factors at play besides just that notion: -Nobody's gonna rematch you if there isnt shit to learn. If you curbstomp someone ONCE, that match is enough to tell the disparities in skill between you and your opponent. Nobody's getting their ass whooped 20 times, winning 1, and claiming, "I've learned something", because you really didn't -You all know damn well a shit connection is not worth hitting Rematch when you either win or lose. No matter how many messages I get about, "Being a bitch" by my opponent, if I win or lose in a connection where it feels like I am submerged in flan, I aint rematching you, and to claim you haven't done the same thing is preposterous (Don't say it's "different", many of you are getting upset over not hitting rematches period) -Points and Rank don't mean anything if the person simply doesn’t care. Someone could simply just wanna play the game and play as many different characters as possible, but take a guess at how many folks either won't rematch because they run into the standard flowchart of each game hundreds of times (I play Ken, I KNOW people don't wanna rematch me in SF, for example).That's enough for them to not wanna rematch people because at that point, they simply don't want to fight the same character again despite possib running into another one, but it's not to insult the opponent. Even then, chances are they either will leave if they win or lose anyway, so taking offense to it is utterly pointless. I just wanna clarify that I get a bit disappointed for not getting rematches from good connections, but I don't care past that because, again, I am not owed a rematch or a set unless it's a tournament, so no reason to get upset about a "problem" that honestly isn't there besides actuam cheating or ragequitting, IMO.

    @NewZen41@NewZen4113 күн бұрын
    • “If you curbstomp someone ONCe, that match is enough to tell the disparities in skill between you and your opponent.” Highly disagree. Many people often have their default strategy which can also be referred to as a flowchart. Really good players are able to learn when the flowchart isn’t working and adapt. With that being said, it’s not uncommon for them to take a little longer. I have had times in which I get perfected and won the set, and have perfected people and they won the set.

      @phabiorules@phabiorules13 күн бұрын
    • @phabiorules You're saying that about people who don't WANT to learn anything past that, though, but I should've clarified a bit better. Sufficed to say, unless that person isn't actively pushing to get better and doesn't simply care to "git gud" (Max even said in the vid about those who simply want easy wins, because yeah, there are those who simply realize they aren't winning that match and don't care to rematch), yeah, they will be able to tell the disparity off of a single match. It obviously doesn't apply to everyone, but to say it ISN'T true is objectively false-newcomers who just started, but don't understand the nuances of the systems aren't going to "download" anything on their first go-around against someone who has a good/notable amount of leagcy skill and fundamentals, and even in today's fighting game world, it isn't something you get within a quick amount of time. They're likely to move on to the next opponent and find someone equal to their level instead.

      @NewZen41@NewZen4113 күн бұрын
    • "If you curbstomp someone ONCE, that match is enough to tell the disparities in skill between you and your opponent" So this is a matchmaking issue then, if the skill gap is actually that large. That's not related to whether or not a set should be played out. If anything, that's an argument for sets because it means they'll get out of this rank bracket quicker so you don't get matched with them again. If the skill gap isn't big and you're just getting knowledge checked then the idea of framing the one-and-done as "I can't learn anything" is ridiculous. If you wanted to learn then you would stay and try new tactics, especially with the replay system Tekken 8 has. You're not just playing against a character you're playing against a person, and people have habits you can learn. That's part of the game. "a shit connection is not worth hitting Rematch when you either win or lose" The only somewhat valid reason for the game to not force a set, but this shouldn't be the deciding factor. Ultimately it's on the game to mitigate lag-related issues, every other game has to deal with this as well. It shouldn't affect the design of the game modes themselves. "Someone could simply just wanna play the game and play as many different characters as possible" Sure, and if it doesn't happen then it is what it is, that's the luck of the draw. It's RANKED. You fight whoever you get matched with. By your logic we should be able to see the character someone plays in the matchmaking pop-up just because it would be more fun for these people. You see why that would be a problem though, right? People would just dodge matchups they're bad at and accept the ones they are good at. That doesn't make for a good competitive mode, and allowing people to choose who they rematch causes a similar problem.

Sometimes I’m busy, sometimes I just don’t want to fight against that character again, sometimes I don’t wanna fight that specific player again because I don’t like the way they fight. The fact of the matter is that if someone doesn’t give you a rematch, you have no idea why unless they tell you. Yall are just assuming that they’re scared to rematch you when there’s countless other possible reasons. Get over yourselves and get out your feelings.

    • Very well said, and exactly what I came to say (albeit less eloquently). I've been on both ends of the one-and-done, and while I can guess why it happened to me, neither they nor I need to justify the reason for using an in-game feature. Getting angry that someone denied you a rematch is simply an ego problem.

    • @@Shade84 exactly, sometimes I’ve played a dozen Reina’s in a row and I just don’t feel like fighting another one lol. Or the bears (I always have, and always will hate playing against the bears 🐻 🐼 lol). I’m not running from an opponent because I’m scared lol, I’m just not going to continue to play a game if I’m not enjoying it. It’s crazy that so many people genuinely assume that everyone is just scared of them and that’s why they won’t rematch lol

  • This recently happened on one of Aruuu's Tekken streams. She was fighting someone, and then the person she was fighting quit. She was REALLY pissed off when that person quit.

  • Wholeheartedly agree. It is so discouraging playing rank when people one and done you, because above all else if this happens often you end up spending more time waiting on opponents and loading into games rather than fighting. Another thing that pisses me off is that there's no easy way to deathmatch someone. How am I supposed to learn a new match up, when I need to add person to friends, go create a special type of lobby, invite them in and only then we can deathmatch - that's straight up stupid.

    • that's why I quit tekken.... in a game with 5000+ moves.... a lot of which are strings with multiple ending..... punishable strings or moves that you have to be able to punish with a specific 12 frame attack or 14 frame attack...... strings that end high which you can duck, or just block and be in a frame trap.... when people won't give you more than 2 games in an environment like that... It's just simply unplayable.... the game is unplayable because of the community, and it's sad because I have a lot of fun playing tekken.

  • I've been playing fighting games since decades ago during the 90s to early 2000s arcade days but I was always pretty casual about it. I just find it funny learning about fighting game players nowadays getting genuinely pissed about the dumbest sh8 such as something as simple the other guy not wanting a rematch. idk about people nowadays but if someone were to act legitimately salty in the arcade back then just because the other person doesn't want to rematch, everyone would laugh at them for acting like a child.

    @geebeepman@geebeepman13 күн бұрын
    • That's the weird thing. I grew up playing people in the arcades too and after I would win it wouldn't matter if the other guy left. You just say good game and that's that. I guess it's different when you're online and don't have to play again.

  • Nobody owes anyone a rematch. If somebody doesn't want to play you anymore regardless if they win or lose it's fine. People really need to stop thinking that everyone has to rematch them.

    • With that logic, one and doners aren't owed a single match at all, then. So where does that leave us?

      @runbaa9285@runbaa928513 күн бұрын
    • @@runbaa9285 I'm glad the tekken devs are graciously donating matches with other people to me after I spent money on this game. There's just too many characters in this game that either are or can be made to be annoying to play against. Imagine beating level 1 of super mario brothers and then level 1 asks for a rematch, stomps you, teabags your corpse and leaves. You probably should have just taken your points, gone on to f*ck about with level 2 and not worried about how level 1 needs to grow as a mario brother's level.

  • This is also a big problem at the lower casual levels of Mk1. For instance Kung Lao, Nitara sun zero. All they want to do is jump in and mix in that with dive kicks. Once you anti air them they will still continue to jump or figure out ways to jump or jump at different times; but they won't stop jumping.😊

  • I can’t understand what’s so hard: if the game can’t figure out who disconnected then the match should start off with registering a loss for both players on the backend and then undoing it for the winner. Then if u plug mid match you still already lost

  • Damn good video. I agree with the performance test for pc. The amount of laggy pc wifi even sometimes wired connections lag is crazy. As for the if people leaving set because they think they can be beaten. I agree it’s more frustrating than plugging. And I feel like, even if they had a stat that told me a set completion rate with the disconnection rate it would affect whether i play them or not. I’ve played people with 12+% disconnection rate and was more satisfied cause they finished the set. They could’ve just had bad connection at the time. Who knows.
