The guy in the stands behind them said: “Damn, I just wanted it to be close. I didn’t want him to actually lose.” 3 minute standing ovation for Gable when they were on the awards stand. No one could hear Owings’ name being announced as the champion. Interesting sub-story: Gable was alone in the locker room right after the match. Chuck Jean walked in, dressed in his street clothes, said he was leaving and forfeiting 177. Gable talked him out of it. • ikr he is continually picking him up and slamming him, nearly getting shoulder exposure idk how they score or if they score that in folkstyle but he was never really on his knees either on his feet driving, trying to drive him to the mat and turn, then when he go up drop him again where if he wasn't already wrestling from down those would all be takedowns

  • Watched Taylor and Dake a lot in college. Taylor was definitely the better wrestler. None of us could ever figure out why he wouldn't wrestle Dake like he did everyone else. I think Taylor even went on to win an Olympic gold medal and Dake never even made it to the Olympics until Burroughs was finally injured.

    • Taylor was great but Dake was just better. He defeated Taylor every which way both in folk and in freestyle. Like the Southern Scuffle match where everything seemed to go Taylor's way, his tactics were perfect, and he still lost. All that said, Taylor's style with the constant leg attacks is better in freestyle because he never has to put himself in high risk positions. Dake even recently said he wanted to work on the leg attacks more.

    • @@icarus8471 WHAT?!?! Anybody that ever wrestled questioned how Dake was able to beat Taylor. The only matches Taylor didn't wrestle like himself were those against Dake. Nobody ever thought Dake was a better wrestler - nobody!

  • As a fight fan I have a fundamental understanding of wrestling and fighting in general, but I'm fairly new to wrestling specifically. I don't understand the stalling calls, it seemed like Dake was defending his top position, and doing it with spectacular slams. But what really stumped me was how the score ended up 4-4 at the end. Of course Dake won with that incredible mount defense, but how did the points go from 4-3 to 4-4? I don't get it honestly, was it the stalling call? It was obviously a bad call, but is that what gave Taylor a point in the end?

    @jameswilliams7059@jameswilliams70592 жыл бұрын
    • Yes two stalling calls gives your opponent a point. Which tied it 4-4 and then the riding time gave Dake the W
