Spencer Lee capped off a stellar 2018 season at 23-3, becoming just the second true freshman to win a NCAA wrestling title for Iowa since 1993. See his full match against Nick Suriano of Rutgers.

Finally I haven’t seen this since it actually happened , more 2018
Same
Fr I been wanting to see this for so long
Hey Jordan! We're working on it.
Me to
😂they replied "Hey Jordan" how do they know its you
Lee is so strong. It's impossible to be in better shape than Suriano, and Lee overpowered him. Given that Lee isn't into weights, one can say that he has wrestling strength.
I imagine Lee is crazy strong
@@mac212 everybody Lee wrestled says how overpowering he is no doubt in my mind he’ll beat Seth gross
Naturally Strong 💪🏻
@@mac212 It's probably the key to his tilts.
Functional strength
I don’t think we’ll ever witness a greater 125 than Spencer
I woulda smacked this fool. As a freshman never wrestled before in my life I placed 2nd in State in California. Placed 1st all three years after that. Broke my knee snowboarding never been the same since.
@@davidgutierrez4606 shaddddduppp
@Joseph Scott lost a close one with a torn acl for #4
@@davidgutierrez4606 LOL the level of competition in California is a joke compared to Iowa, and the difference in skill between high school and college is more than you could imagine. Pretty sure an average wrestler from the midwest could dominate in some of those coastal states. Just watch the respective state tournaments of both states and tell me there isn't a massive difference in the wrestling you're seeing.
@@davidgutierrez4606 I hope you’re joking
I am still impressed by this match. The counter by Lee at 4:35 says it all. Great shot by Nick, even greater counter showing strength, speed and flexibility in perfect measures. These are both great athletes. thanks for posting a real treat............
Yeah that was nuts, suriano knows how to finish his shots better than almost anyone in the ncaa...but Lee's so hard to finish on, his scrambling and defense is second to none (except yianni I'd say)...great match, one of my fava
He was on FIRE in the 2018 Nattys. First match, he beat the kid from Oregon State that upset him when he was wrestling unattached, at the Midlands...I believe. Then he pinned Nic Pincinnini of Oklahoma State, then he pinned No.1 seeded Nathan Tomesselo of Ohio State, then he dominated Suriano. Suriano looked good this year at 125lbs., but we'll see what he's really made of when he meets Pat Glory of Princeton. Kids a stud too. But as Good as Suriano looked...he still didn't win EVERY match this year by pin or Tech fall, which Lee did last year, till the Finals if the National Tournament..and he only beat that kid from Arizona State, like 8-2....and he had no ACLS, and couldn't move like he wanted. If he WAS wrestling, and healthy...I'd say he'd (Lee) put it on Nic worse than this tourny.
@@jeffdarnell7942 True Freshman Spencer Lee outscored his opponents like 62-6 or something like that en route to his first national championship. That’s so insane.
I absolutely love the Rutgers finals singlet. I wish Penn State would go with the inverse white with blue they sometimes break out for home meets for finals, those are wicked cool
Couldn’t agree more
Almost sure Cael doesn’t let them. They used to do it back when Jenkins was on the team but now we rarely see them.
Absolutely here to see the skill
Tournament. I've seen them wrestle in that white with blue trim TWICE in the last 10 years...probably, but DEFINITELY...not at the Nationals.
You said it though, they break them out for the finals
I remember watching this live when it happened....to see spencer lose the other day hurt my heart....I knew he would be something special after his 1st NCAA championship....GREAT CAREER
how did it take 3 years for this to be put up anywhere
It kept getting copyrighted cu of Spencer's Pokemon theme song.
Spencer Lee is a legend can’t wait to watch him this year
But not a CAEL SANDERSON type LEGEND 😉

7:00 Honestly the best takedown I've ever seen.
Amazing wrestling. Nick's defense was crazy, Spencer is just too good.
Spencer Lee is the most humble champion.
The most dominant 5-1 match I've seen.S.L. never in trouble&scoring with seconds left period #1!!Two fierce competitors.
Always love to rewatch these matches!
Both legendary wrestlers
Spencer would kill Nick every time they wrestle.
I believe that this is Lee's best finals match.
Two legends. Awesome match
Spencer is a BEASTTT
Let’s gooo! You guys are the best
HE JUST MADE THE OLYMPICS🤩
Great match with great wrestlers.
Flashback in the early 2020's
Thank you for the match!!
Thank you for watching!
@@NCAAChampionships I liked so much the Fighting !!!!!!! 🤙💪👌 👏👏👏👏👏
Wow, I think this is the only full match I have seen Lee wrestle and win without using his cross wrist series tilts! His counter to Suriano's single leg was phenomenal.
That move in the end of the first with Spencer itself deserved a like 🤣🤣🤣
Very Good Fighting !!!!!!! 💪🤙👌 👏👏👏👏👏
3:27 = the moment Suriano decided to move to 133. The look on his face ...
Well.. he had the skill to hang with him but his strength. It was there, you can tell how he fought thru some of those attacks... incredible strength, but not enough. At a higher more comfortable weight he probably could've fought it off
Wouldn’t he weigh 133 already? I wonder if say spencer lee is wrestling at 125, what does he weigh during actually wrestling someone.
@@bobdole7292 I heard Lee walks around at 128 which means he barely cuts weight. Pretty incredible cause I imagine most 125ers walk around at 135+
@@floridafan561 piccininni is an alumni at my school and he came in and weighed after a practice and he weighed 138 and he was like this’ll take like 4 days to cut once I get back to OK

Such a great match
Hey! Thanks for the request. We'll be looking into it!
@@NCAAChampionships Thank you
125lbs for a man is insane. Thats like what 10yr Olds weigh.
Spencer Lee is a stud
Thank you so much
You're very welcome!
Just goes to show PA wrestlers are just on a whole other level!
People who come from these judo wrestling dynasties are just a notch above. Just a mild tighter grip, a bit more clean a technique, this dude's gonna rule the world.
Is there anyone else besides Spencer Lee who comes from such a family? I hope his knees get rehabilitated in time for 2024. Really curious to see how he translates his wrestling to full-time freestyle. He's a master of folkstyle matwork and he's got great mat IQ, but in FS he will need to develop a lot more more speed (which I'm sure he's capable of).
He doesn’t do judo…
We all lost respect for Suriano after he quit Penn State. Gilman deflated his ego so much it made him feel like he didn't belong. Now at Rutgers he gets beat by a true freshman. Even in New Jersey where he avoided the Super32 and protected his record we all knew he wouldn't make it as an NCAA champion. The Fix match was a gift. What ref stops a match with seconds left when a wrestler is legged in and working?!?!?! WOW!!! Spencer Lee is a great wrestler he just needs to keep working like he has up to this point.
Domination.
Glad the championships from the past are being put up
7:00 great leg reversal
Im glad they got to come over from the Women's basketball game to catch the 2nd & 3rd periods.
Spencer is just built different
@NCAA Championships do you think we could see more posts from prior to 2010? I only say that because a lot of great matches from the last decade exist on here already. I think it would be great to see, for example, Abas vs Strittmatter of Iowa in 2001. 13-10 sounds for the title sounds like a match people would love to see!
Hey Will! Thanks for the recommendation. We will be looking into it.
what’s nicks knee sleeve called? i’ve been looking forever
7:58 I like that wrist hold escape
I love wresling
Nick can’t hang with Spencer anymore
nice eye poke by Suriano at the end 😮
I would love to see them wrestling TODAY
You may get it with Olympics coming up lee and suriano would have to face eachother
I think Lee is even better than he was
Hope someone will watch this again and see this post....what name brand is that knee brace that Nick is wearing?!?
Spencer Lee is the reason suriano moved up in weight he knew Lee would win everytime
Playing the Pokémon intro after u win is crazy 😂

I still can’t believe he got pinned in his final college match.
I kinda wanna see the previous year with darian Cruz vs Ethan Lizak because I never saw that match
Burgestowm 😍
Commentary feels bias for lee but hes also my favorite wrestler so i dont mind
Could we get get Valencia vs Hall from 2018
The scramble was a treat
Nick just had an of day
That kid had some full steam ahead parents. I’m trying to be. It’s 5 am and I’m cooking breakfast for my kids getting ready for a tournament this morning
Suriano just never made the college level. I think he now has 9 losses. Decent high school wrestler that just never made the cut. Ref gave him the 2019 NCAA by stopping the match with 9 seconds left.
So where is he now?
College level? Dude he was 1st seed or second. Maybe not Olympic level but def one of the best in college and I can't stand the kid.
The beginning of the Spencer Lee era :)
Actually...him beating NATO in front if the Ohio State fans his Freshman year was his, "I'm here!!" moment. I loved that match...

@@jt519 Never understood the Suriano thing, unreal!!
@@jasonswift9310 Like how do you let Suriano walk?
@@jt519 I don't know why Cael let Suriano walk, but a huge mistake it was. PSU for some reason really struggles with keeping or recruiting high level guys at 125lb. Conversely I'm sure the Brands brothers rolled out the red carpet for Lee!! Lee has reinvigorated the Hawykeyes. I couldn't believe when Lee signed with Iowa, I would have bet the bank he was headed to Pa. The reasoning is unbelievable, happy for Lee and all his success, but I to would like to have saw him in blue/white!! They say hindsight is 20/20.

literally here in 2024 crying about spencer losing, seeing him here is just a testament to how lucky ramos got, lee would’ve destroyed him if he was healthy😭😭😭
They really start playing the Pokémon theme song after he won😂
I think if spencer went up to 133 for his final year and wrestles rby then that would be crazy
at the BJC
Actually - best previous finish was Tom Tanis - who also finished 4th at 184 in 2002
Suriano was awesome in high school. We really expected him to be a 3-4X NCAA chamion. Gilman educated him his freshman year and Lee his sophmore year. Then the ref gifted him the match with Fix by stopping the match with seconds left his junior but I think he earned his NCAA title this season at 25 years old vs Junior Patrick Glory.
Only because Lee didn't compete that year
