  • It has changed so much since 1984. We were so convinced that being a state runner up or a one time state champion was a huge place to be. Seeing the way heavyweights wrestle now is light years past how we used to lumber and push each other around hoping for a tilt or a trip up. I am proud of what we did at Bedford HS in Michigan in that year, we had 6 in the state finals, two champions and four runner ups. It was amazing.

He died from cutting too much weight his sophomore year in 1997. That is when the weights changed after his death because his parents lobbied across the country and had meetings with the NCAA. He was the third wrestler to die that year from weight cuts.

    • "Peaked in college..." What in the actual fck are you talking about?🤣 Try keeping up with the sport. He's literally a three-time World Champion and Olympic Bronze Medalist for God sake. One year he didn't let up a point the entire World Championships🤣. Didn't lose a match for 3.5 years😂. Was behind maybe the best wrestler in US history for years or who knows how many more titles he would have. He lost a match to a better wrestler on that day, it happens. Get a grip, buddy🤡🤣

    • @@mattf9076 He gave an interview a few months back where he hinted about what was wrong but didnt give all the details because he said they're being saved for his documentary or something. The gist I got is that Kyle relied on a lot of weird 'health supplements" and stuff like that to aid in his weight cuts. Nothing crazy or illegal, just really weird shit (which if you're a dake fan you already knew this lol). During covid they instituted very intense restrictions about what was able to be brought across the border, and it sounds like he was without all that stuff for the first time in a while, so it mentally/physically threw him off. He said something like "looking back with what I know now, I would have fought those restrictions from day one hard, rather than wait and hope it was all going to work out"

  • Dake's not even in the same class as Taylor. To watch Taylor lose to Dake in college just boggled a=every wrestler's mind. Taylor wrestled hard and strong against everyone BUT Dake. It's one of those strange phenomena that may never be explained.
