Backwoods Gourmet Channel I subscribed and I liked, but I'm Green With Envy. You guys are living good. Keep it coming
Backwoods Gourmet Channel -How many quarts is that #8 Dutch oven? I cook just for me normally. It looks like it would be just the right size.
USMC 1019 I was wondering the same thing
Dorothy Conn - I found a small 2 quart Dutch oven made by Lodge. It’s listed on their web site as a serving pot. It comes with a lid and has a flat bottom. So it can be used on any cooking surface really. I think it was $40. I love it. I use it a lot making small meals.
USMC 1019 thank you
I always watch when I'm hungry😫
I`m hooked on this channel. A few steaks and a smaller portion of potatoes is the way I would go . I love potatoes but they always make me feel bloated and sleepy. You ROCK !!!!
I’m getting my first Dutch oven for Christmas. So I plan to get the fire started before we start presents so afterwards the kids can help me dump everything in it and make a late breakfast pretty much same as you show. I’ll just have everything diced up and ready to go. Thanks for the great breakfast idea.
Thanks for sharing. I do a similar version but add diced jalapeños with the onions and minced garlic. Helps keep the mosquitos away. Catch you on down the trail, from Western Oregon.
buying a dutch oven was one of the the best investments I made. best story is after a huge blizzard up here I had to use a snowblower to clear out my driveway and paths for the dogs, figured why not clear up the fire pit too. after that was all done started a hot fire, when it slowed down a bit grabbed my dutch oven, stuck a few beers in the snow and had a great time. made breakfast for lunch with some ice cold beer. nothing beats it.
Beautiful!!! I found a dutch oven in my attic and showed my mom. She told me that thing is older than you and I'm 42 yrs old. It was my grandmother's. My mom said theres nothing better than cooking a pot roast in one or frying fish.
Watch our channel and we will show your how to cook more than pot roast or fish. It can become addictive. Thanks for watching.
I make a mountain man breakfast for the family. We use potatoes o'brien and breakfast sausage. The peppers add so much flavor.
I have a Little Dutch oven like that on my day off yep it's going to happen
Ça ma l air très bon vais l essayer merci beaucoup 👌
Great breakfast casserole !! Love to make this in my dutch oven when camping !! Love advice on using paper from bag and oil on paper towel! U never disappoint great video!!!
That looks delicious. The best part is that you can swap in, or out different types of meat. If you had any kind of leftovers meats you could just toss them in
I'm so glad I found your channel!
Going to try this out. Looks easy enough.
I love that little dutch oven! I currently have two, an 8-quart camp stove by Lodge, and my mother's old 6-quart stovetop unit (no legs, and domed lid). That stovetop item has to be at least 80 years old; my mother got it from her mother back in the 30's when she got married. I'm 67 now, and it's still a great dutch oven. I prefer cooking over a wood fire, but I like the charcoal method too. Many thanks.
Nice! You made it look easy, Thank you for sharing.
Looking delicious!
Made it today. Doubled the ingredients due to smallest dutch oven being 5 Qt. It was great ! Thank You Backwoods ! I did see where you added the eggs as I asked in a former post, my bad.
cook-time = 'when it's done'... Good Video!!! Thanks.
Thank you for the tip regarding the vegetable oil on the paper towel! Starting my charcoal in the chimney has been the bane of my DO cooking!
Works every time!
Man, looks amazing. I'm extremely hungry all of a sudden.
Great video. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Can’t wait to see more!
That looks really good. Thanks for the video.
Man, that looks so good... always making me hungry watching you cook.
That meal is looking so delicious and would be great in the outback when you are away from home. I just purchased and received two dutch ovens and one having the three legs on them for camping out. I have also ordered a new skillet to compliment the one I inherited from my grandmother. I want to be prepared in case we have another period of time like we had in 2000 when we lost power for over 10 days. The one thing I had was my grandmother's skillet and finally a power generator I was able to get to help us through that outage.
GREAT TIP WITH THE OIL FOR CHARCOAL STARTER FUEL
I love to cook outdoors * Great vid
Nice dish sir as always, from N.C. Thanks again!
Amen brother! It looks delicious! Gonna make on the hunt👍
Thanks for the info
Nice vid. I totally agree on the cook time.
Man, that looks delicious! 👍
That looks so yum
Hummm looks good. I can smell it over here in Texas.
Looks GOOOODDD!!
Looks amazing. I got a camping trip coming up this weekend going to try useing a Dutch oven for the first time, this looks like something i can handle, thanks.
That's the life, good cooking right there.
Looks yummy!
Looks delicious. Great techniques. Anything can be cooked with a Dutch oven. Some of the fluffiest biscuits and tastiest cornbread I've made this way. I don't time my cooking either,I go by smell, the sound of sizzle and dead reckoning. I use real hardwood embers from my woodstove.
Good lookin' pot of protein & potatoes! That should keep anyone going through most of a day. Thanks for posting!
Hey ....looks good. First time on the Backdoor Camper channel. Looking forward to checking out the other vids. Thanks again
That's backwoods bangin!
that is some good eats
Slick production :-) Roll on 20k.
came across your channel, just wanna say that you're a cool dude and keep up the good work :)
That is a nice way to cook a breakfast when in the camp and I will try it out in my #12 dutch oven since that is the only one I have for camping. I have another #12 without legs on it which could be used in a camp also, but just have to make sure that it is sitting on the blocks to keep it level.
Make it work with what you have. That's something you learn for yourself. Thanks for watching.
Breakfast fit for a king & his queen !
Looks yummy thanks for sharing your recipe . I don't have a cast iron Dutch oven but after watching this video I think I'll buy one just a small one hopefully I can find one around here in Canada. This is Ivana Williams from Blue Mountains Ontario Canada.
Ok, this is the second video of yours I’ve watched and both were cooking for two in the small Dutch. Thanks much!! Everyone else has recipes in a 10 or 12”. Gotta get one of those 8” jobs. New sub👍
Thanks George. I got some more of these coming up this winter for us that don't like leftovers.
Backwoods Gourmet Channel looking forward to them Spring is right around the corner ( I Hope)
Outstanding!!! Watch your cholesterol!!!
I have made this a few times different ways I never cooked it all together and I like that idea order to do a one pot cook I was cooking things separately bacon sausage potatoes then combining with cheese and egg. I need to try that
I enjoyed your Mtn. Man Breakfast recipe for two!! I followed it to the letter and the food came out perfectly!! I’ve tried other Mtn. Man recipes but none of them turned out as good as yours! Keep up the interesting videos bro.
Mrs. Backwood's favorite. Thanks for watching.
Well done, brother.
And a dollop of daisy .... yum !!!!
Hell yes! That's awesome food! I'd love to try this someday. Especially when camping. I've seen several versions of this but never the basics! Lol.😉 Yeah, and really, what Mountain man has biscuits and portabellas and Spanish chorizo and Gouda cheese? Hahaha, Anyway, I love the basics of just meat and potatoes with some onions and cheese. These are the essential ingredients needed to me, and some seasonings! Lol.😉
Looks awesome.. :")
I checked out your channel. Looks awesome. I will have to make some time to check it out more. You got a lot of stuff there. Thanks for watching.
It just isn't camping without this dish imo. :)
Watching this at 10 pm and now I'm hungry. Also, agree with nick d - the wind must be carrying the smell all the way to Texas.
I dig it
Thank you!
Hey Thank you for sharing... I would like to see more cast iron frypan videos... ☮️
Over 250 videos over on our channel page. There is a playlist of 85 videos on cast iron. Check it out by clicking on our picture.
that,s some good eats
Good job. Gotta get me some of that.
Thanks for watching, hit that sub button for much more.
That looked awesome! I LOVE breakfast! You just reminded me... I need an 8 inch DO. I have 2 12s and I want to get a 10 and an 8
I have the Campmaid, but I would suggest the Lodge 8 inch deep. It's only a few buck more.
Thanks for the tip. One of my 12's is a campmaid and I like the lodge better. Do they make an 8 inch regular and an 8 inch deep? I know they do for the bigger ones but didn't know they did for the 8 inch.
Gonna give that a spin this weekend
You will enjoy! Thanks for watching.
Good GOD that looks good! I missed when you put the eggs in. I guess you poured them in over the cheese?
Dutch oven Cooking time always varies , doesn’t matter who you are or what recipe , especially with coals
Nice helpful video! My Dutch oven is not very seasoned so how would using a Dutch liner change this cooking process? Thanks!
As a baseline, if you can maintain an even 350f, it'll take ~1 hour for the first step, then 10 minutes or so after adding eggs and cheese. I determined this because it started raining and I had to use my oven @350f to make the meal.
Thanks for that info.
As usual, a great cooking video, as you always do! Sometime after you do more research into the differences in charcoals and heating mediums could you do a video on what you've learned from each? And when you prefer one method over another? Enjoy watching you from just north of you in Montgomery LA (Lower Alabama).
I have been thinking about that for quite a while. I just don't know how much interest there is in that subject.
I believe you could do a very good job of it. I will also use 3 different sources of heat, wood fired hardwood coals, some type of briquette or a propane burner but often wonder why or if a different source of heat would serve me, or the dish better... Good luck !
Slap some mayo on top of that and eat it all up! Nice video my friend.
BGC, Howdy; As it's just me for the time being I got hold of an 8" Lodge. My biggest problem is adjusting the recipes down from 12". Lots of things can be done by only using 3/4 ths. of whatever but when it comes to things like dump cakes and cobblers (using the pre done-up mixes). How do ya work all of that out. I live in an RV so storage is at a premium that goes for leftovers as well as working equipment. Thanks for your thoughts.
I’ve been putting a little fan near my charcoal chimney. It lights way faster
You are the first person on KZhead that has mentioned using the charcoal bag, paper towels and oil to light the coals....i do it all the time when away from the house....the bag paper burns beautifully...great minds think alike!!! When home, use one of the two camp chef burners to light the charcoal...at 15K btu's it does not take long...looked like a delish cook...speaking of which, where did you get the large cooking table that you can put charcoal on...TFS The Real JoeyB Dallas Fort Worth Texas USA utilizing the Traeger Timberline 1300
The table is just and old piece of aluminum sitting on my Concord double burner propane stove.
Backwoods Gourmet Channel you can drizzle oil on the charcoal too...
If heart disease had an avatar, it would look like this. That said, I want some.
Wanting to try some jowl bacon!
After your done cooking with charcoal how do you clean it off from your Dutch oven with soap and water
That looks absolutely delicious. I should think you could eat one of these breakfasts, then go out and wrestle a bear.
Got one on cleaning them up when your done cooking?
getting the ingredients together to make this for a camp out in early November. Thanks for the recipe. BUT--the potatoes---are they diced raw or do you dice them then parboil or are they canned and already cooked to softness???
The potatoes started raw.
thanks
I like jawl bacon because when it's cooked it tasted and looks like raw regular bacon
I use a pinecone to start fires. They have a little sap and are dry.
Did you see that Dragon Eye when you focused in on the finished pot?
No, really?
Just kiddin', Dragon Eyes are our secret ingredient. Just noticed that it was showin'
superb 👧
Enjoy high cholesterol n sin food yummy!
Just found you, terrific video.is a no.8 about2quarts?
Welcome. About 2 quarts give or take.
Eleven hundred thumbs up...and 46 thumbs down....proof that there will always be some folks determined to be that crevice at the bottom of the spine....
Yea dude. Give people a ballpark on cooking time. And about how long before its done do you put the eggs and cheese on.
How many quarts is that little oven?
If you were cooking with wood I would put a pinch of ash that adds a great flavor to the food. The 1st time I had that was a accident now I do it on purpose.
I don't think mountain men used parsley lol . Great video I just subscribed
Welcome and check out our channel page for MUCH more content like this.
Mountainman breakfast for two....ready by about lunch time?
Were the potatoes precooked? Or raw? Good vid man.
Perfect!
@@BackwoodsGourmetChannel So... as I asked, were the Potatoes Raw, or ParBoiled/Browned?
@@w.c.6678 he said above they were raw.
Kingsford long burning? When did that come out? About how long does long burn ... burn?
It was out for 6-8 months and then disappeared. It was pretty good, on the Do it would last over and hour. Can't find it anymore around here.
@@BackwoodsGourmetChannel that sucks
🤗
Now, I'm as serious as can be when I ask, how many quartered squirrels could you comfortably stew in one of those 2qts? We followed your squirrel and gravy video, first time trying tree rat, and we agreed it was better than chicken.
Pretty much a Frittata, and that is not all bad either. I could do that for breakfast on my annual Late Season Elk hunts. You need a lot of good warm food on those sort of recreational pursuits.
OMG YOUR USING METAL ON YOUR CAST IRON.... Oh wait, you know what your doing and have properly seasoned pans...
I wanna see the sign your fry pan is covering. The one that says "Come in for a stiff one - EVERYNIGHT" What's that lady doing under there?
Little picante sauce....your in there.
Mrs Backwoods does not like spicy, but I'm with you.
