    • Dorothy Conn - I found a small 2 quart Dutch oven made by Lodge. It’s listed on their web site as a serving pot. It comes with a lid and has a flat bottom. So it can be used on any cooking surface really. I think it was $40. I love it. I use it a lot making small meals.

  • I’m getting my first Dutch oven for Christmas. So I plan to get the fire started before we start presents so afterwards the kids can help me dump everything in it and make a late breakfast pretty much same as you show. I’ll just have everything diced up and ready to go. Thanks for the great breakfast idea.

  • buying a dutch oven was one of the the best investments I made. best story is after a huge blizzard up here I had to use a snowblower to clear out my driveway and paths for the dogs, figured why not clear up the fire pit too. after that was all done started a hot fire, when it slowed down a bit grabbed my dutch oven, stuck a few beers in the snow and had a great time. made breakfast for lunch with some ice cold beer. nothing beats it.

  • Beautiful!!! I found a dutch oven in my attic and showed my mom. She told me that thing is older than you and I'm 42 yrs old. It was my grandmother's. My mom said theres nothing better than cooking a pot roast in one or frying fish.

  • I love that little dutch oven! I currently have two, an 8-quart camp stove by Lodge, and my mother's old 6-quart stovetop unit (no legs, and domed lid). That stovetop item has to be at least 80 years old; my mother got it from her mother back in the 30's when she got married. I'm 67 now, and it's still a great dutch oven. I prefer cooking over a wood fire, but I like the charcoal method too. Many thanks.

  • That meal is looking so delicious and would be great in the outback when you are away from home. I just purchased and received two dutch ovens and one having the three legs on them for camping out. I have also ordered a new skillet to compliment the one I inherited from my grandmother. I want to be prepared in case we have another period of time like we had in 2000 when we lost power for over 10 days. The one thing I had was my grandmother's skillet and finally a power generator I was able to get to help us through that outage.

  • As a baseline, if you can maintain an even 350f, it'll take ~1 hour for the first step, then 10 minutes or so after adding eggs and cheese. I determined this because it started raining and I had to use my oven @350f to make the meal.

  • BGC, Howdy; As it's just me for the time being I got hold of an 8" Lodge. My biggest problem is adjusting the recipes down from 12". Lots of things can be done by only using 3/4 ths. of whatever but when it comes to things like dump cakes and cobblers (using the pre done-up mixes). How do ya work all of that out. I live in an RV so storage is at a premium that goes for leftovers as well as working equipment. Thanks for your thoughts.
