"Get Back" in Apple Basement | The Beatles: Get Back | Disney+
Check out this clip of The Beatles recording the track “Get Back” from #TheBeatlesGetBack. Peter Jackson’s three-part Original Docuseries is now streaming on Disney+.
The Disney+ original docuseries, directed by Peter Jackson, will be arriving on Disney+ just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday. Made entirely from never-before-seen, restored footage, it provides the most intimate and honest glimpse into the creative process and relationship between John, Paul, George, and Ringo ever filmed. Be sure to check them both out, and don’t forget to watch “The Beatles: Get Back” when it rolls out over three days, November 25, 26, and 27, 2021, exclusively on Disney+.
Directed by three-time Oscar®-winning filmmaker Peter Jackson (“The Lord of the Rings” trilogy, “They Shall Not Grow Old”), “The Beatles: Get Back” takes audiences back in time to the band’s January 1969 recording sessions, which became a pivotal moment in music history. The docuseries showcases The Beatles’ creative process as they attempt to write 14 new songs in preparation for their first live concert in over two years. Faced with a nearly impossible deadline, the strong bonds of friendship shared by John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr are put to the test. The docuseries is compiled from nearly 60 hours of unseen footage shot over 21 days, directed by Michael Lindsay-Hogg in 1969, and from more than 150 hours of unheard audio, most of which has been locked in a vault for over half a century. Jackson is the only person in 50 years to have been given access to this Beatles treasure trove, all of which has now been brilliantly restored. What emerges is an unbelievably intimate portrait of The Beatles, showing how, with their backs against the wall, they could still rely on their friendship, good humor, and creative genius. While plans derail and relationships are put to the test, some of the world’s most iconic songs are composed and performed. The docuseries features - for the first time in its entirety - The Beatles’ last live performance as a group, the unforgettable rooftop concert on London’s Savile Row, as well as other songs and classic compositions featured on the band’s final two albums, Abbey Road and Let It Be.
An exciting new collaboration between The Beatles and Jackson presented by The Walt Disney Studios in association with Apple Corps Ltd. and WingNut Films Productions Ltd., “The Beatles: Get Back” is directed by Peter Jackson, produced by Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Yoko Ono Lennon, Olivia Harrison, Peter Jackson, Clare Olssen (“They Shall Not Grow Old”) and Jonathan Clyde (“Eight Days a Week”), with Apple Corps’ Jeff Jones (“Eight Days a Week”) and Ken Kamins (“The Hobbit” trilogy) serving as executive producers. Jabez Olssen (“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”) serves as the film’s editor, the music supervisor is Giles Martin (“Rocketman”), Michael Hedges (“The Adventures of Tintin”) and Brent Burge (“The Hobbit” trilogy) serve as the series re-recording mixers, and the music is mixed by Giles Martin and Sam Okell (“Yesterday”).

It's amazing that as cool as this song is, how Billy Preston's piano playing really brings it to life!
Oh c´mon, it´s pretty lively before and after his solo. But it´s a great solo anyway.
@@anonymusum Livelier when he's playing!
It's a complicated way to play.
@@user-no6ol4sf5l Gospel music?
This song would suck without preston’s playing. This album is lifeless
I will always be grateful to Peter Jackson for having corrected this long-standing perpetuated myth that this was one of the darkest episodes of the Beatles legacy. Instead, it a glorious story of redemption by 4 truly remarkably talented men who genuinely loved each other. Jackson let the movie speak for itself and what you witness is an unsurmountable pressure they put upon themselves, and yet they emerged with some of the greatest songs ever created. The movie truly humanizes them and shows the staggering amount of work put into creating their magic. Along the way you get to know John, Paul, George and Ringo like never before as 4 completely natural and genuinely nice people. My respect for them only grew from this movie. I’m sadden that this has been hidden for this long and we have lost so many of them - Linda, Maureen, Billy, George Martin, Mal Evans and of course George and John. Thank you Peter for doing this.
It was their darkest time but even their darkness was still very light. I'm only halfway through but I get it now. They needed John to be leader and Brian Epstein to be the disciplinarian. Paul needed to just be the GOAT that he is - he didn't have the personality to be their leader or boss. He talked too much and didn't listen. He was trying to instill discipline in them but came off too controlling. When John was full of energy, things worked out great. When John pulled away and let Yoko do the talking, things fell apart. Because sometimes he wanted it to fall apart. But when they moved to a smaller space and George brought Billy in, John's energy came out full force and he led them once again.
@@sup9542 If this was an unhappy record, imagine them happy.
Pretty much sums it up pal.
It is most strange how all these startling new revelations only came out after everybody who might have set the record straight are gone. Leaving Paul McCartney to write history as it pleases him.
@@Kermit_T_Frog Exactly. In The Beatles Anthology, John and George are both on record saying this was a less than satisfactory experience, trying to make music on a sound stage.
John Lennon died before I was born, but I grew up listening to his and The Beatles' songs. It's so touching to see him on film.
None of us knew him personally. So we all really know the Beatles thru film. This is great to see.

Johns like yeah me and Paul are paying attention to this recording. No time for yoko gum
Its like when you give it to a chimp
Why does Yoko make me cringe..am I not a good fellow? Or is it something else. Just feels odd seeing her there.
He didn't want it, but Yoko wanted him to have it. Better just take it.
I found out immediately hahahahaha
I think Lennon hired the guy to kill him to free himself of Yoko.
It's just incredible how much talent is packed into that one room. In addition to the obvious, the engineer in the suit, Ken Scott, produced Bowie's Hunky Dory, Ziggy Stardust, etc. The tape operator, Alan Parsons, went on to produce Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon three years later.
....and then became The Alan Parsons Project! Amazing........
Martin: You can always edit... John: EDIT!? you are talking to the bootles!
Boogles
That bubble gum moment was pure sweetness
Yoko is so clingy though? I hate her
Go shopping or something! Do something! Other than be a distraction to john
@@isaacmuldoon4275 A. She obviously wasn't a distraction to him. B. He wanted her with him at all times. He would even follow her to the bathroom. C. She was for the most part a quiet presence in the studio. She didn't interfere or distract anyone from what they were doing.
@@wpl8275 I agree. The film is providing another angle of the relationship between Yoko & John that fans haven't seen before. For years people blamed Yoko for the Beatles breaking up. Clearly that wasn't the case.
@@wpl8275 I can see why the other members got annoyed with her though. I’d be so annoyed because she has nothing to do with what they are doing
The gesture of Yoko unwrapping the gum for John is so touching. Firstly because Ringo gave it to her, and she immediately split it in two, all her movements seem so instinctual. The way she doesn't distract John from his conversation with Paul when she knows he doesn't see the gum, instead she just puts it in his hand. Very sweet to me.
It reminded me of my mother… she always chewed 1/2 stick of gum and even as a kid that always puzzled me so much! Lol… I was like, mom how can anyone chew 1/2 stick… then I see Yoko tearing a stick in half! Wow did that bring back memories!
Definitely different than the common narrative that Yoko was a drag and a distraction in the studio. It's apparent she was there because John wanted her to be. It caused some stress for sure when it started in 1968, but by this time they all seem used to it. She did not want to interrupt John's convo, as he was working so she put it in his hand. Far cry of what the uneducated say about Yoko being a divisive figure. As Paul said, "No one woman, nor one man, could break up the Beatles". The Beatles broke up the Beatles. It was inevitable.
They were in love. Real love. People need to stop hating and cringing and see the other side of things, like this comment.
@@ricopaulson1 Yoko is the only classically trained musician of the bunch. Yoko is an artist's artist.
Sure the way she broke up John's family. Moved into his house while his wife was still living there and his first son. She refused to give Julian his fathers memorabilia and made him buy it at auction. She's a real charmer!
Thank you Paul for keeping it going as long as possible 👏👏✌️

Just started watching this. It’s pure magic. Seeing them in the moment of the creative process is incredible. When episode one opens and it jumps from one Beatles song to the next, it hits you just how prolific they were. A never ending supply of hit songs. I experienced a similar feeling when I saw foreigner live some years ago. An entire concert of hit after hit after hit. The Beatles were monsters.

Billy's playing and personality rescued them from the doldrums. Fascinating to watch their creative style. They would start a song, play unrelated snatches of other tunes, and then come back to the main item and finish it. It worked for them!
Oh please.!!!!!!
Yeah! Billy was a catalyzer
Billy was invited to play on couple of tracks and all of a sudden he becomes this saviour of the Beatles, the 5th Beatle... McCartney could've done the keyboards without using Preston as had done in so many other songs... Some people think they know everything but actually know nothing about the Beatles..
@@paulmarsh8974 George brought him in. Paul couldn't of played because he's playing bass.
Preston saved John, George and Ringo from Shears' torture.
Super keyboard playing !
Isn't Billy amazing! He stopped by to say "hullo" and then played like he had been in rehearsal for weeks!
Any session musician could have done it.
Paul’s genius on full display. Oh, and Billy Preston, John, George and Ringo too. All fantastically talented.
Dear Peter Jackson, Thank you, ~ The planet.
Just love looking at John and Paul together.. you just know they are great friends..

If you're a Beatles fan you feel like you know the Beatles in real life. Watching 'Get Back' is like looking through family photos
I grew up hearing that they all but hated each other around this time period. Obviously wasn't true. There were frustrations, but these men loved each other and enjoyed being around each other. Also, Billy Preston's unending smiles. I'll never forget them.
I'm just beginning part 2 and am at the "lunch break" convo between Paul and John that the hidden microphone in the flowerpot recorded mind blown on so many levels and that's not an easy task nowadays
yeah that was incredible, I thought they were naughty for hiding the mic but I'm glad they did
Why, what was said, please?
@@Cloud007. they discussed the regret of how they let their ideas and egos overcloud George too much, causing him to leave the band for a brief period in time.
@@calfman3333 At least it shows they had a conscience.
I'm only halfway through but that is by far the greatest discovery this documentary has unearthed. John laid it all out and you hear how difficult it was for Paul to understand. They all needed John to be the leader once again but he had pulled back after they stopped touring and Brian died, and Paul was doing his best to try to hold it all up. It's amazing how quiet John was throughout episode 1. But in episode 2 he comes to life again and his energy lifts them all up.
Love the new old footage, half way through episode 2, I got a feeling I'm gonna watch it all again when Its over.
Me too!
oh yeah!
Wow! Amazing! The ACTUAL footage of them recording the "Get Back" single! never in my lifetime............
John Lennon indignantly saying "edit?" My heart grew 3 more sizes for the man whom I've loved all my life.
It's cute the way Yoko puts the gum in John's hand.. But then he gobbles it up like a lizard on a windowpane.
It's annoying that she is even there, acting like a contraceptive. Ringo could have been there, passing gum to his mate but it has to go through Yoko. There is nothing cute here.
Happiness is a warm gum?
@@PixelOfThePanda cool story bro
John had a moment with Paul. She had to interfere physically.
@@valentino1000 She always had to physically put herself between John and the rest. It's a pretty popular emotional abuse tactic, to separate your prey from their support network and fill their head full of stupid shit.
That Ringo and Yoko moment is so cute. Ringo offers her a gum and gladly accepted it. And she's so sweet she breaks it in half then gave it to John hehe.
yeah and she did it without even thinking kinda. so cool
That splitting a piece of Wriggly’s gum was a common thing back then ! I’d forgotten how much gum was chewed in those days. You often kept half in your the mini pocket of your jeans. And those baseball boots and white plimsoles before the days of trainers ! This is a brilliant insight into those days , much of which I’d forgotten.
@@MELISSA-xl4stQue buen gesto de Ringo al ofrecerle una goma de mascar a Yoko y ello muy linda le da a Jonh la mitad, aunque John no le veía y ella se lo dio en la mano jajajajaja 👍🤗🥰❤

What amazing serendipity for Billy Preston to have shown up and added keyboard to this song. It’s impossible to imagine the song without it.
I want to see and hear the rest of the 180 hours. Please Mr. Jackson!
Please, release this masterpiece too in Blu-ray format 😍😍
The talent on display is incredible in this film.
This is beyond cool. Billy's playing is completely smooth and natural with this song.

Every now and then the planets align and a group of people come together as if it were destiny. The fab 4 just had this amazing chemistry (and talent of course) that drove them to create some of the greatest songs ever written and in the end the most beautiful thing about it was their friendship and love of music. Get back is an incredible window into their world, so grateful to have gotten to see it. So now Peter Jackson has given me 2 of the best productions I have seen in my life, Get back and LOTR
Greatest Rockumentary in history. It was glorious!
It always looked like John was chewing gum - but this is the first time we can we remember seeing him put it in his mouth. We found the whole sequence with Ringo Yoko & John Lennon strangely fascinating.
I love how Ringo gives Yoko a piece and she INSTANTLY rips it in half to give John some. That says a lot.
Watching the process of these great songs coming together is beyond words. Then to see how much fun they had on the roof…magically. So much talent.
This whole series is just wonderful. Seeing the creative process is fantastic. Seeing the interactions and humour is even better.

I love the music of the Beatles, have all their albums and watched all their movies but I never watched the original Let it Be film because I had always heard it was just them constantly bickering with each other and I did not want to see that. We are privileged to live in an era where the technology existed, and was saved, for us to see the modern day versions of the Beethoven's, the Mozart's, the Greig's etc. doing and saying and thinking exactly the way they really did. Thank goodness this stuff was recorded and saved, and now made available. The astonishing thing is that they were as good as their records.....they really were THAT good. Remember....they didn't just play it and sing it....they imagined it and made their imagination come alive. THAT is the genius...and we must, when remembering, remember George Martin was very much a part of that. It's all quite miraculous. and Paul, if you are listening and reading...God bless my friend Alfred Mason.

Such a great docuseries
It's kind of amazing, now, to recall just how big The Beatles were through the 1960s. Popular music was played, nationwide, on "Top-40" (or Top-30) AM radio stations, and in my city, there were often multiple Beatle's songs in the top-10, played repeatedly, day-and-night. Each new album release was a huge event. No one was bigger than The Beatles. Then, in the later-'60s, "Sgt. Pepper," The White Album, and "Abbey Road" were all phenomenal in their impact, with much more complex productions.
Funny that you listened to the Beatles on regular radio stations (I guess in the US) as they were not played at the BBC in Britain hence a lot of Pirate Radio ships offshore, one of them being the popular Radio Caroline.
@@eily_b The Beatles were played on BBC radio, in fact in 1963 they had their own BBC series for several months.
Thanks, Peter Jackson. That's all I can say and it's not enough! 🙌🏻🙏🏻
