Ringo talks about The Beatles documentary “Get Back” on Disney+, being captivated by Paul McCartney’s genius, a great postcard he once received from Paul, the inspiration to write “Octopus’ Garden,” rooting for the LA Rams, farting causing trouble amongst the band, who the gassiest Beatle was, sharing hotels on the road, finally getting the All-Starr Band back together for 22 dates, and his new book Lifted.

Ringo's experiences as a performer would mostly blur into "ordinary stuff" - any given concert would become very much like the last two dozen he did... and the next two dozen. Remember... this may have been special and fun for us, the audience, but it was work for them. Day after day after day of doing very much the same thing. Not anywhere near as glamorous and exciting to do as to watch.

  • Paul McCartney said The Beatles were a "great" band, and they were so. That is because each of them brought different strengths to the band and they executed beautifully. Ringo once said that John played a song to challenge Ringo to play drums like what was heard on the song; Ringo said, "John, you DO realize that is more than one drummer playing, don't you?" John agreed but had confidence Ringo could do it. And Ringo DID do it! Ringo said that was the greatness of The Beatles, they were "always pushing the envelope."

My Dad always said we must have seen the Beatles a hundred times when I ask my Mum she says it was easily 50-60 maybe not a hundred but it was a lot. He was able to keep up a tempo with the other three by watching their footwork during their live shows because he couldn’t hear them over all the screaming girls. • Crazy that for some people it took a documentary and 50 years to realize what a genius Paul is bc they kept believing what people who were really competitive with him said to downplay his talent. Like Bob Dylan and Paul Simon have both said, he's not only one of the best songwriters ever but also completely on a league of his own musically

    • Spot on. He'll be remembered in 200 years, like Mozart. They both have an incredible gift for melody (among many other things).

  • The rooftop gig is worth popping the kettle on for and just sitting with a biscuit and enjoying a super tight band playing and making great music together. My favourite Beatles performance as I can hear them and the balance of sound they create is wonderful.

  • John was the one, if I recall correctly, who first recognized Ringo's own original drumming. Ringo had his own unique beat & tympani combo which, obviously, worked out quite well!

  • I saw him soundchecking pre-gig in Gothenburg, Sweden in 2011. We were maybe 30 people waiting in the sun, could not believe he did his own check.. Did half of ”Yellow Sub” and shouted our direction ”How does it sound..?” Us ”GREAT!!!” Ringo ”Great, see you in an hour or so!” Legend.
