  • The Let It Be film made it ABSOLUTELY clear how talented Ringo was and how critical he was to the success of the Beatles. The film showed how CLOSELY he listened to ANYTHING being played around him and instantly began contributing a beat and ADJUSTING that beat as he heard one of the other three experiment and alter what they were trying to achieve. If you were sitting in a room trying to quickly stumble on to a song, there was NO better drummer to have in that room than Ringo, who could do exactly that for HOURS effortlessly and develop perfectly suited drum parts to support the song. Much respect...

They all bounced off Ringo & he made no waves & was just a conduit & became a great drummer. So many people were critical in their story, from family, Brian Epstein, George Martin & recording engineers & Mr Abbey Road. Take anyone out & it be a whole different story.

    • Just a guess on my part, but I remember reading an interview with one of them (maybe Ringo, but might have been John) a long time ago, and he said that as they gradually got tired of it all after Sgt Peppers, that it was always Paul who was the "Okay boys, time to make another album" guy, and they'd work up the energy to make another album. That period might have been what he was referring to when he said Paul the the workaholic. I think they all had a lot of energy and wanted to keep making music, but Paul was the one who kept pushing to keep the Beatles together (from my understanding, anyway).

    • No ego? He was the 1st one to quit the band. He walked out because he thought he wasn't getting as much recognition as the others. He had an ego alright. A nice guy, no doubt, but not as easy going as his image would have you believe.

      @johnc3403@johnc34038 күн бұрын
    • @@johnc3403That’s not true… he felt like he wasn’t playing well and the other three were icing him out and getting along fine without him, etc. Paul’s lady fling at the time said Paul felt guilty for being “too hard” on Ringo and was being moody and critical-which is a whole other story because Yoko being around drove Paul nuts! So one day Ringo left for a much needed two week vacation and actually thought about quitting but came back (thankfully!)

  • Got to see Ringo and his all-star band back in 97. A fantastic lineup of Simon kirke drums from bad company, Gary Brooker keyboard and vocals from procol harum, Jack Bruce on Bass from cream, Peter Frampton on guitar and vocals and of course Ringo. Ringo called out a special guest, Ginger Baker from cream to play drums on a few songs. This show was in Denver and Ginger Baker actually lived here then. This show was just so much fun and just really awesome.

He'd let the *_whole song_* wash over him (just like most of us do), rather than just doing what one might _expect_ a drummer to do - namely, focus solely on the drum parts. And this is part of why he's so *_revered_* - he's always looking at the "big picture" - looking for what will best *_serve the song._* Respect.
