What writers wants BF2042 to be: Dark, gritty and the fears of the future. What DICE/ EA upper management wants 2042 to be: Anime and goofy skins.

The story in 2042 feels so flat. I feel like this effort needs to be fleshed out better in game, or just save it for a SP game.
I feel like the lore itself is really interesting. It’s just not presented in an interesting way.

I think the post-apoclyaptic nature of many parts of the world inherently limits Storytelling. Honestly "nations have collapsed, mercs and scavengers fight" is not really I want for a Battlefield setting.
I agree. This "we'll tell the story through multiplayer" just feels forced and out of place. Just weirdly shoehorned in because we didn't get a SP campaign. Doesn't really seem to add anything to the game and earns one big "who cares" from me.
What story? The lore we got so far has had nothing to do with the game. Tornadoes?
Hmm Ai with some weather control capabilities made to try save the current weather system, only for it to freeze the globe and boom 2142 setting with the encroaching ice age.
There's been a bit of discussion around that...
Before now I always believed the 2142 ice age was a nuclear ice age, brought by a Fallout-esque nuclear exchange in a 21st century Great War. But your theory is probably more logical, and I've seen theories about this very thing happening in real life as well, a next ice age in about 100-200 years.
I'd go as far as to say that it's a guarantee at this point. They better not fuck it up this time
Considering there is real discussion with certain types like Bill Gates, to block out some sun light by recreating the effects of a volcanic ash cloud. So this is pretty current. And the Ai aspect could be inspired by the latest Mission Impossible movie.
Lots of names and places mentionted...wouldve been nice if the lore was more accessible and gameplay oriented.
100% agree. The lore for 2042 suffers because it's all fragmented online and largely in written form. We need cinematics, but that boat has sailed.
Comet, a lore god for 2042, has an archive useful for understanding the lore of the game. It’s still under reconstruction but it’s still a lot to go over. I can link it if you like
@@Flakfiremy personal issue with some of the lore is that it’s locked behind playercards in the store. You literally have to buy the lore.
The lore for 2042 is so embarrassing IMO. The fate of the world comes down to 12 distinct and different characters who also run around massive battles with “trademark gadgets,” costumes and seemingly walk out of each conflict unscathed AND control different factions. It’s like a discount military Avengers or something. Doesn’t feel like battlefield at all.
I think it's pretty clear that the lore is completely disconnected from the gameplay. Which is stupid, because if they never added the specialists as playable characters, then this lore would probably be dope as fuck.

@@LateNightHalo the lore of 2042 is two nations trying to scramble for control of the remnants of society and the no pats have to choose sides between Russia and the United States the specialists are a bit cartoony in presentation but they make sense to a degree
Boreas almost definitely also has links to what was going on in the installation on Exposure, that's when we first started hearing about Boreas and even got a universal weapon skin by that name.

@@GazDaLad That's basically the same thing, "boreal" at its root just means "of Boreas," since Boreas isn't part of common knowledge anymore they've rewritten it in more common terms as "of the arctic."
Random thought, but I have to wonder if any of the stuff surrounding terraforming technology or the wild weather events are at all tied to the Easter egg in Firestorm. I really enjoyed that game mode and felt it was building to something huge, that just got scrapped and left behind.

I doubt it, it was tied to the Masterman/Phantom EEs in BF4 and BF1.

I think something they're missing out on is linking 2042 to 2142. 2142 and its fight over the last of the habitable land as a new ice age comes along. If they had something to show how the ice age came about or even some build up to the formation of the PAC. Maybe some sort of fight over the technological break throughs that lead to the Walkers or Titans. 2142 may be 100 years in the future but its not too off to say that 2042 is about the right time to start some events that lead to how things are in 2142. Like how 1942 is 100 years before 2042, even today a lot of our technology especially military stuff has its roots in 1940's, 50's, 60's. And they could tie in Bf4's final stand dlc and some of the lore you could get from those maps. There are so many opportunities they're not taking with the story and it really feels like the writing team haven't taken the time to learn about previous games in the series to take inspiration.

Playing falk as my main and popping off with rez and smokes, it’s got the same feel of a revive like bfv. I haven’t really touched assault cuz it’s not my style.

@@lumineniananubis4161 soflam and hacks on helis, paired with javis is *chef kiss* beautiful. only downside is people counter it by poping flares or smokes early. (which is a decent enough of a get away)

This feels like setting up some war games setting br world building
Maybe 2042 should've been a BR in the first place, then they make a classic Battlefield set in like 2025, à la BF2/3/4

the description for that 2nd player card about the sky being fake reminds me that they are growing humans out of labs to make grown soldiers instantly which could be interesting if dice in s6 event have it like regular 64 player conquest but with bots fighting alongside so 32 players and 32 bots vs 32 players vs 32 bots or something like that

It's a trash fire but I'm interested in seeing what they throw in the bin next.
Maybe they should transition to a different era as the the war progresses into the further future. Theyll be space battles or a future ice age with reoccurring cast but with cyborg limbs n shit. Then the title of the game becomes 2142. Like a mind-blowing twist.
Honestly I would like it if some characters got cyborg skins or something like that. An AI/cybernetic themed season would be cool

Any new content would be welcomed! The game is a lot of fun now. With more content in the main game and portal it can still reach its full potential.

Another great video, you don't post much but when you do it's quality. Good work recapping the lore, and the speculation about what the playercards mean is very interesting. I also love your ideas for the limited time game modes, always thought Battlefront could've done with a vs AI gamemode against droids. Also love the reference to a Hardline map, as one of the people who loved that game's maps, especially Hollywood Heights. But with how small the map looks, I do hope we'll get 2 new maps next season because while small maps are fun they get repetitive quicker than larger ones imo.
Honestly, a mode with AI waves of sorts pitted against a team of humans would be kind of cool. The bots can be lethally effective sometimes.
That's a scenario I'd like to see.

@@foabmoab hmm...no the 2042 ai are useless teammates....63 of the 63 ai will run past me n not rez, wont give ammo, etc...even using callouts. Though, that says something about players as well
@@CMDRFandragon I get more ammo, meds and revives than human players on average. Plus they'll play the objectives.

I kinda think the BF 7 leak with an extraction mode in a massive Moscow map would be dope. A lot of this "new" lore and cosmetics are teetering on Fortnite level trash however :/

Perfect opportunity for dice to add new variations for ranger and some skins as well, more intuitive commands. Maybe add a medic ranger that will drag you closer to a medic or just revive you. Or a repair ranger that can periodically fix some portion of damage your vehicle takes... there's so much wasted potential with ranger and a season that focus on AI should definitely bring something new to the most overlooked character in the game.
I’m planning on buying this game on sale or am getting it for free since DICE took about the same time to fix their last game. No Pats idea was dumb. This idea is convoluted and sounds dumb with the use of no pats. Battlefield doesn’t hold a candle to Call of Duty right now.. and that’s saying a lot. I’d rather go back to hardline 2 than whatever this is

The lore feels like a last minute thrown together story, much like the game itself tbh. I haven't paid attention to it and have little to no interest in the "lore". They need to do better.

Next battlefield should be WW3 NATO vs Russia, China and N Korea. 😭😭😭 imagine the storyline/campaign takes place in 2030 and shows how big the Ukraine war escalated now it follows different American soldiers (pilot, tank driver and infantry) and a Russian soldier similar to BF3 campaign.

Yes, there has been a merging of current players playing past BFs coming into 2042 and many new international players. Top channels like Jackfrags, Levelcap, and Flakfire keep the game healthy. It's come a long way, but it's actually in a good state currently with more to come.

2042 about to get real stupid. It was nice in past titles as the detail they added had real life history. I can't get into the lore of a fake battle and the game doesn't feel gritty enough for me and destruction in this day with the tech is horrible.
None of this bland crap lore-story matters more than real armies fighting in their military uniforms. USA, China, Russia etc...

They should've made a game in the 2020s first, then make 2042 in a few years. I think the world of 2042 was too far away for most people to understand. Only those of us who know where the world is headed could understand the world of 2042. They could've referenced pandemics and lockdowns more, so people make the right connections of what's going on.
Thats BF3 and BF4. But personally I was hoping BF2042 would be current time.
Well they somehow got mercenaries doing the dirty work for the big powers spot on. The no-pats are basically a mix of Wagner, Blackwater and the Ukraine foreign legion.
I hate forced crossplay with PC players on xbox. Crossplay should only be for consoles not with PC.
