  • I recently changed from my Arctis 5's which i've been using for a few years to the Phillips Fidelio X2 and V-Moda mic, the jump in audio quality is massive, the open backed nature of the X2's presents a fantastic soundstage, the V-Moda mic is like nothing i've tried so far, the combo destroys the Steelseries in every way. As for your reasoning as to why you prefer gaming headsets clearly isn't based on audio quality but as you said its easier to buy from the shelf, i'd say take a little bit more care and you'll be rewarded, I couldn't ever go back to a gaming headset ever again.

  • I’ve been gaming with my Bowers & Wilkins P7. I got them back in 2014 just to use as a regular pair of headphones for music. Ended up really liking them for games, music, and more recently movies. I have them plugged into a JDS Atom stack and it’s been great. If I upgrade my headphones, I’d probably get the DT 1990. I’m not really into gaming headsets. I don’t really need any gaming features. Just headphones that focus on build and sound quality. For a mic, I use the Quadcast S. I absolutely love that thing

  • hey techne, love the take on the video, it's very honest. With regards to the Auido interafces or amps, I think you can buy a 50-80 dollar audio interface and connect your headphones to the computer that way. I know, it's 80 extra dollars but it gives you the phantom power needed to make it sound even more beautiful like you said on the video. I think it's not too bad as long as you don't mind spending about 1 hour following some youtube guides LOL. I have my m50x connected to a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 for music and gaming. It's great. On the other hand, a gaming headset is very convenient because it is plug-and-play like you said. that's probably its biggest appeal to me, to be honest.

  • I upgraded my sound when i bought my series x. My reasoning after watching your reviews was to go for the best possible sound considering my budget. Choose to go 3.5 instead of wireless and buy a quality pair of headphones/headset. Functions are cool and all, but soundquality was my priority. Got the ath-g1 wired and an blasterx g6 dac/amp for around 250 dollars (2500 swedish kr). Holy shit the sound is crazy good. Play a ton of battlefield, hitman, destiny, cs:go(pc) and other games and i love it. Also got dolby atmos. Personaly i dont need the functions of gaming headsets, dolby atmos gives me an eq, the g6 also lets me tune the sound. Wireless is nice, but soundquality is more important to me. Love your work

    @JonofBerglund@JonofBerglund3 жыл бұрын
    • I didn't think the series x supported the G6 DAC?? Are you running the optical cable to your G6 from the optical input on your tv? How is Dolby Atmos working through the G6??

      @markcarrico5206@markcarrico52062 жыл бұрын
    • @@markcarrico5206 yeah I am running optical from my tv to the g6. Then powering the g6 with usb from the series x. I’ve also read that atmos does not work with optical, so even if I have the atmos app in my Xbox it isn’t real atmos, but instead changes it to regular 5.1 surround. But ether way is good, the sound alters depending on my atmos app eq and it is great. So I am still enjoying my g6. Especially now that I got a hold of better headphones that require an amp. Using fostex t50rp modded, holy F the sound is insane.

    • @@JonofBerglund so you are not using the audio Technica headphones anymore? I have that g6 DAC, but all my headsets are the gaming kind..I have been wanting to get a regular set of headphones to compare, but people have always told me that regular headphones won't sound good for gaming .

      @markcarrico5206@markcarrico52062 жыл бұрын
    • @@markcarrico5206 I watched zeos reviews on youtube and decided I wanted better headphones. If you check the audiophile guys they all say that regular headphones are better, gaming headsets are only regular headphones with some features or a mic added. Check his different fostex reviews, they are easy to mod with different earpads etc. The impedence is like 50, but they are power-hungry, not for mobile use. The g6 drives them good and I love them both for music and gaming. Started listening to music on tidal and it opened a new world of enjoying music. I really recommend getting the fostex t50rp, zmf lambskin earpads (or other earpads because the regular sucks) and a vmoda boom mic. To bad the mic on the g6 doesn’t work with Xbox, so when I chat in a party I can’t use the fostex because the controller won’t run them good enough. But I play a lot of bf1, destiny2 and csgo on pc and I can never go back to the ath1. Long answer, but getting better headphones have really made me appreciate music and sound in another way. The ath-g1 was good with the g6. But when I got my fostex and started to compared them, the ath-g1 sound weak and to focused on highs.

I don't really like playing online so I thought the only reason people had headsets was to talk to ur squad, but now I've realized the immersion u can get playing with headphones. I already had a pair of M50x's to record music, but the other day I decided to try them 4 gaming & it was krazy. I've been watching gaming headset reviews for the past 4 days & I decided to order the hyperx cloud. Then a day later I decided to order the razer kaira wireless headset. I tested out the hyperx cloudx & it was laughable in less than 5 minutes. All it took was 1 conversation during gears5 for me to see the m50x's were extremely superior. So tomorrow I'll see how the razer kaira's compare, but at this point I'm not even expecting them to stand a chance. My current setup: Rode PodMic + Behringer UMC204HD DT990s 600 Ohm + Schiit Magni 3+ There is no "endgame" but you gotta set boundaries depending on your use case.

Recently I wanted something with a mic attached, and after looking at a million option I got a closed back. Man, it took me a looong time to get used to it, and I did not enjoy it one bit, now it's about ok, but I know I'll get rid of it eventually and go back to open back. • I disagree with a lot of the stuff he says here when I got the dt990 (the only reason I got them was that the Hd 600 were too expensive) they were the best thing since sliced bread. Yea the high end is higher than usual but it is well represented and does not get rid of the base (very balanced). and open backs were a way better experience because of the sound stage, you can hear things that you would never hear with gaming headsets in games and music. but one of the best things bout it is the fit, studio headphones are built to be worn for hours at a time and built to breathe and be lightweight and they do it right lots of them just float on top of your head with little listening fatigue

  • The biggest thing you will notice going to an audiophile setup is the musical qualities and natural tones they will bring to the table. Things just sound "better". I have been switching back and forth for years and other than the really high end gaming headsets ($200++) you will not get anywhere near the musical qualities of a $150 audiophile headset. They are not crazy hard to drive but do benefit from an amp both in terms of volume level and sound quality. Another thing is the long term durability of audiophile headsets, they are simply on another level and may last you years. There are people using their original HD 600's for over 20 years with minor parts replacements. Gaming headsets typically break on me in under 1.5 years usually due to the wire getting loose in the left earcup. Where gaming headsets win, besides price and simplicity, is IN GAME sound. You see pros use HyperX series headphones in FPS shooters for a reason. They just work. Mids and highs are a bit boosted and you can really get a sense of footsteps and audio cues. They are TUNED for this. It is almost the opposite of what makes music sound good. So choose wisely, or get both.

  • Ive had some from both categories and some gaming headsets are tuned way better for game audio. For example the dt770s are good but have basically really recessed mids (upper vocal range). And the m50xs are good for music but have literally 0 soundstage and really boomy mid kick bass. The hyperx hadsets offee great value for a cheap price and pretty good audio tuning for games and music. Some have too much of that mid bass tho.

      @alrizo1115@alrizo1115 Жыл бұрын
    • @@alrizo1115 DT 770s are honestly not that bad for gaming. The DT 880 and even DT 990 are probably a bit better for gaming as far as Beyerdynamics and close to the same price. But as Beyerdyanmics, the DT 900 pro x is the best for gaming and are only 32 ohms so less amp dependent. As for Senhiser, HD 560 is a solid one for gaming but some love the HD 600 or 650. Just keep in mind that with many of these you need to have an amp that can power them in order to get the full benefit out of them. Even the DT 900s do much better with an amp despite only being 32 ohms. Gaming headsets meanwhile will have a built-in amp or software to compensate but typically do not sound nearly as good and are very bass-heavy. However, many audiophile headphones can be too neutral for gaming such as the HD 600 so Its a give and take when it comes to headphones v headsets. Though personally I feel headphones are more enjoyable, there is an argument for headsets for gaming in terms of budget and convenience. Honestly, hyperx cloud is good option as it is surprisingly well balanced for a gaming headsets and really good battery.

  • I have tried the hypercloud stinger gaming headset then later the Moondrop aria IEM. The difference is so huge leaning towards the Aria. Sounds in Aria are better separated and more detailed. In terms of comfort, Aria beats the Stinger as IEM don't have heat buildup and stress around the ears. If you are gaming for long hours, IEM seems to be the best choice for me because you can't feel wearing them that much. Aria doesn't have a mic though. So you'll have to invest for a separate mic.

  • I use open back for competitive gaming. Can't stand gaming headsets after using open backs. Got the Akg k702 with soundblaster g6 and a 50 dollar mic. I want my ears to be cool and the open back gives me that. And the sound stage is beyond what a gaming headset can give me. And price. Yes there is a more expensive start to go inte the headphones world. But after the first punch in your economi. You are buying headsets for half to a third of the price, and you keep your setup with the mic.

On the go it's the Sony WF-1000XM4: When I want to listen to music it's the HIFIMAN Sundara+Schiit Hel. I'm a headphone lover. I appreciate good sound so I need something for every listening situation.
