🎮 GAMING AUDIO GUIDE - Top Gaming Audio Picks at ANY Price 2024 - IEMs, Headphones, and Headsets!

The goal of this video isn't to provide in-depth coverage on any specific product, nor is it a ploy to get you to buy new stuff! I wanted this to be a basic guide for each product type and price range based on gear I myself have personally used and enjoyed. If I can suggest these to friends and family, I can suggest them to you! I broke it down by chapter for IEMs, Gaming Headsets, Headphones, and more to help save you time. Hopefully this gets you in the right direction if you've been on the fence for a while and weren't sure where to start!

  • Ultimate guide indeed! 👏 This is hands down the best audio gear roundup I’ve come across…period. Thank you for not only touching on the best options for gaming, but also pointing out iems and headphones that work well for music too. Immensely helpful for those of us who want a solid all-rounder choice. This guide really helps to filter out all the “noise” on the inter-webs, helping to make my decision much simpler and more straightforward. I gotta say, your channel is my absolute favorite for all things gaming and audio. I can always rely on a non-biased opinion here which is refreshing to say the least. You put a lot of work and passion into your content and it shows. Cheers!

  • Really comprehensive video. Thanks a lot for including pretty highend gear as well. Too often I find these lists of gaming headphones or earphones and they will stop at at $400 USD when I currently use the Sennheiser IE600 IEM's and considering buying the Westone Audio - Mach 70 Universal IEM which cost $2,200 AUD because I love highend audio but also enjoy gaming with my friends. Other reviewers should always bare in mind that there are always going to be gamers who are happy and able to spend a lot of money buying relatively premium gaming and audio gear such as I'm about to order the ROG OLED that was recently released and use quality microphones such as my RODE NT Mini I think it is and want to power my audio with quality amplification. Thanks for also including the amplifiers to drive the headphones of choice in your video though I do wish you included some higher-end options suitable for IEM and USB C mic input. I'm not sure I've seen such a comprehensive video on gaming audio prior to this.

I've been intrigued by the VZR Model One since learning they exist literally last week, I also discovered another headphone with a very unique presentation called the Crosszone CZ-10. I'd love for you or anyone else to compare these two for gaming! There doesn't seem to be anyone on the planet that owns both of these headphones.

  • This is an amazing video with plenty of great recommendations. I've never seen those wireless headphones with swappable battery. If they include an analogue out as well then it's genius, as they won't be useless after a couple of years of battery degredation unlike most wireless stuff

  • Thanks for the updated audio guide. I recently purchased the Arctis Nova 7x based on your previous video recommendation and prior to this video being posted. I’m glad I did because I got them for about $125 after taxes. Now they’re back up to almost $180. Hopefully I don’t get a lemon. 🤙🏽

    • High end headphones and headsets are like supercars. There are nuance differences, but they'll all fast. The nova 7x is like a Honda Accord. It's got plenty to speed to get you to the grocery store and do it comfortably at a much cheaper price. Ultimately, what else do you need?

  • Really great video! There's lots of other good stuff out there, but it's impossible to list them all, and you did a nice job of narrowing it down. I think the only other thing I'd have like to seen in the mid level wired is the DT770 Pro (since its a good closed back option). Thanks for including the DACs! If you plan on listening to music or having a little overhead for a harder to drive headphone, I'd recommend a Fiio K7 and an extension cable for your mic if gaming on PC. Lots of power and a balanced output. Probably would work on PS5 also (I know the Zen DAC V2 does). For me it was night and day for the H6Pro closed back with a good amp. I don't like using it on PS5 through the controller because the bass just takes over.

  • Just recently discovered you. I don't know how the yt algo did not find you sooner. Great stuff and exactly what I'm looking for when it comes audio. Thank you for being real. I have a question not sure if you answered it. I use the open back 900 pro x by beyr for music/guitar DAWs and it's been my game driver. I'm considering the maxwell but can you tell me which wired headset would you say compares to the maxwell if you want to stay wired. And by compare I mean by sound quality. The 900 pro x have been impressing me in bf2042.

  • Great review as always! I was surprised not to see the DT 770 on there since it is so recommended online for closed back gaming. I ordered DT 770 Pro X LE and will use them primarily for gaming and KZhead/Streaming on PC only. I have analysis paralysis on amp/dac and wonder if there really is such a big difference in being able to monitor your voice by plugging both into the one amp/dac or just the headphone into the amp/dac with separate usb mic? I have been considering smsl c200 or the topping dx3+ and also the Zen Air stack but feeling like it might be overkill but as a woman I am drawn to shiny things and like the probably unnecessary display. LOL

  • Joe you're the guy on YT for reviewing headphones. Hands down 🙏 Quick question if I may (or to anyone else) After watching your review recently on Stealth Pros I took the plunge and love the sound but having issues with the boom mic. Sounding distant, tinny and never had the echo problem as much before. Some are suggesting the internal mics are better. Is this true? Was wondering if mines was faulty in some way. Its barely useable coming from what I'm used to with the mid tier TB 700 Gen2s. Mamy thanks

  • Great video, glad you like the DT 1990s (except for the peak). I personally am not too bothered about the peak but after comparing EQ vs no EQ I get what bothers people. For me I perceive the glare mostly in the case when a lot of cymbals are hit in a row in a song, the 8khz peak makes all the after effects of the hits overlap and creates a sort of a shrill/sharp sound that I fortunately perceive as more of a background thing (slightly annoying but tolerable). It also colors the vocals a bit but I don’t find it annoying. Also about the longevity of the DT 1990 - the only weak point are those plastic sliders, mine cracked for no reason, without even dropping the headphones once. Also the Analytical pads (which I prefer and use several hours a day) seem to degrade unevenly and in about a year you might want to replace them. There is also a side effect of their degradation that it softens 8kHz a bit, but it makes them sound less clear.

  • A neat trick with the G6: Want to give any of your closed back wired headphones or IEMs transparency mode? Get a nice inexpensive 3.5mm camera mic, like the ones BOYA makes, and turn on monitoring in your recording settings and adjust the level. I basically need transparency in my environment, so this has been an amazing feature for me.

  • His advice is spot-on, although my experience with the HD560s and TYGR 300 is slightly different. But that is really due to personal preference. The reason I use the HD560s now as my main is because the tips of my ears touch the inside cover of the driver of my TYGR 300 (I would say I have about average ears, whatever that may mean :0). He actually mentions this in his 'Wicked Cushion Freeze Pads for Beyerdynamic' review. And with the WC Freeze that (almost) sovles it, check his other video on this. Yes, the HD560s clamp more, but they definitely loosen over time.

While considering the Turtle Beach option, here’s something from my experience: I bought $160 headphones from them, and right after the warranty expired, the boom mic broke. I reached out for a repair-even offered to pay-but was flatly refused. It’s crucial for viewers to consider after-sales support. Turtle Beach's stance on repairs could be a dealbreaker for some. • Got the Hexas last month. Have been loving them. I keep hearing negative things about them recently like how they have no bass at all or that they are overhyped and not worth, which is very odd seeing as people went from literally nothing but love for the 7hz Zero (OG) to pretty much shitting the direct upgrade to it. I mean, sure they don't have bass head level bass and neither does the 7hz Zero.. but the Hexas are still punchy. It gets the job done, they are most definitely worth. Glad to see them on the list, makes me feel better about the purchase, not that I needed someone else to make me feel that way, because to me, they sound amazing and especially for Rainbow Six. I also just bought the Dunu S&S. Hope they are good, have also been seeing some mixed comments about them. Like some crazy ass excuses to sway me from not getting them despite the majority of people liking them..

It is awesome for gaming. On a budget I definitely suggest the HD6XX it is great for gaming and music at the same time. Same thing goes for HD560S. Just buy a cheap entry level mic (fifine) and pair it ip with audiophile grade headphones and you’re 90% there in terms of quality.

  • Hey Joe, hope all is well. Thank you for what you do, your a great source of info/knowledge. Been trying some IEM’s but having some issues with fitment(ear canal). Ended up ordering a pair of Sennheiser HD6XX, they arrive tomorrow. I was torn between HD6XX, Harmonicdyne Zeus Elites and Aune AR5000. Will the FIIO K11 power the HD6XX? I wanted the Schiit Magni Unity but giving that PS5 uses UAC1 that is off the table for now and not sure what to do. The Hel+ is an option but I saw a Q&A with the owner of Schiit and he mentioned they’re working on a new version of the Hel, no date yet. Plus trying to keep it in some sort of budget 😅. Keep it up. God bless.

    • Get the FiiO K11, its an amazing Dac/amp It powers my Sennheiser 490 Pro beautifully. Got it on low gain, and still gets super loud. Even louder on Mid gain.

  • Hi, currently the Pulse Elite and the Simgot EM6L are the same price in my region, what would be the best choice overall, for both PS5 and PC gaming (single player and multiplayer) as well as listening to music every now and then.

  • I play alot of Hell Let Loose and love the PC38x going through the Mayflower Arc MK2 into my Ps5. I really appreciate the spacial information it gives. Do you think I could see improvement by upgrading either to the VZR Model 1. Or going wireless with the Maxwell? I do play single player games too, and appreciate immersive audio. For music I have the ZMF VC going into the RME ADI-2 4.5w balanced special edition. So I know high end audio. Would really appreciate people's input as I have a gaming audio itch to scratch.

  • Still Corsair Virtuoso XTs with wicked cushions over all of these for me even for solely playing on PS5. Great build quality, great sound out of the box without eq’ing, class leading mic, and simultaneous Bluetooth with separate volume control 👌

  • Hey Joe, will you review the Turtle Beach 600-500 gen 3 that are on pre-order?

  • I have the Turtle Beach Stealth Pro. It's a great headset for gaming, but it has some considerable issues. The buttons are too flush to the headset, making them hard to press. The hinges don't lock in place, so I'm constantly having to slightly re-adjust the earcups. And the biggest issue is that the volume wheel is seriously imprecise. On pc, I just max them out, and control volume with my keyboard. I rarely bother to use them with my phone.

  • Joe, can you share your EQ for general use for the VZR? I'm hesitant to auto EQ it to the harmon curve because I'm wary of distortion.

    @osuorr@osuorr17 күн бұрын
  • Joe, how do I EQ the VZR-One? I notice you said you EQ yours, however, I’m unsure what you use to do so. I own the Schitt Hel+ which I’d use to power the VZR Ones. Should I buy an EQ to go along with the Hel+? I’m just trying to figure out how to EQ, not only the VZR One, but any analog/wired headphones I own, as well….there are a few pairs of headphones you said you like, but you had to EQ them. So what is it that you use to do that? Thanks!!

  • I have the Cloud 3 Wireless and the Maxwells (bought both on day 1). My maxwells have started to fall apart and the strap is coming off, and I also find them a little too fatiguing for all day use. The Cloud 3's are nice, but HyperX broke EQ completely with a firmware update (has not been working for weeks now) and I haven't been able to enjoy the stock sound. I just went ahead and purchased the MG20's since Amazon Canada had them on sale for the equivalent of $250 USD. If I care about sound quality, premium feel and comfort more than anything and don't require any other features, do you think they're the best in class?

  • Been seeing a lot of stuff recently about IEMs being a lot better bang for buck than gaming headsets, even the best ones. Can you do a breakdown of IEMs vs Headsets and maybe some comps? Like if I have a Nova7x, what would be a comprable IEM? Would you recommend IEM over headset? The main drawback of IMEs seem to be lack of integrated mic. I know mics on headsets generally aren't great in terms of quality, but sometimes its about being "good enough' and just nailing convenience. Potential solutions to this issue with IEMs?

Otherwise for over ear headphones i LIKE wireless, open back (currently using astro a50 gen 3) Gaming performance is my main concern and I'm more than happy to spend a lot of money for the best performance. How much worse is wireless vs wired? How would you compare IEMs vs traditional headphones/headset? Any suggestions on picks perfect for me?
