Here i begin the conversion of my open diff to limited slip differential using the Racing Diff LSD conversion kit. I remove the half shaft / axles and the differential in this first of 2 videos on it.
Differential is a 188k 3.38 ratio

  • My driveshaft/axle took 15 tonnes of pressure in our press at work, the other 12 tonne, all while hammering too!

    • Wow thats alot. I dont think i have tried that. Was that the 2.93 or the 3.38?

    • @@OEMplusRESTO2.93 yeah, took the entire trailing arm on both sides to work, 3 of us holding everything in place and operating, spraying, shocking with hammers and then BOOM. Like a grenade going off. 330ci clubsport

    • @VisionOfDish uhh.. a clupsport even. Youre british? Yeah they do get stupid stuck in there! Sometimes. My m5 had to have them pressed out as well

  • Can't wait for part 2.Just curious about diff conversion. Is that lsd conversion kit only for one diff model or it can be used on other Bmw diff's? Nice video. Bmw power. 😎💪

    • Hi:) they have for both the 188k and 188l and many others including 210mm diffs i believe. But theres alot of debate on how it holds up, these kits, so do your research if its worth it to you vs for instance a blackline torsen conversion. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated

    • @@OEMplusRESTO Not sure what diff is on my car.I have 320Ci model,so if that kit isn't too expensive I am interested to do it on my car.How much km has your car?I am asking because rear bearings.My has 235 Kkm,no strange noise so far.The best solution is to take halfshafts of and spin them by hand,like you did,then you know in what shape are bearings.My are 100% from factory,never changed before.

    • @@marioturkalj1239 its the cheapest way to get a limited slip diff in these cars, and theyre having a sale right now i believe. You can find out what diff you have by going to realoem.com and typing in your vin. Then go to rear axle. Then Final drive. And check the gasket for the housing. It will say what kind of diff you have. Then look on racinggdiffs website and see if they have a kit that fits. It would be good to replace all bearings while youre in there, but if you have no whine or bearing noise the kit contains everything you need besides oil and a new gasket for the housing.

  • Sadly there’s nothing like that available globally for my E46 - I’ve searched everywhere and contacted many companies which build custom automotive and motorsport drivetrain stuff. 😑

  • Argh this is a bit hard to watch, no penetration oil, while pressing out the shaft. Next time take a piece of wood and put it on the threaded pushrod and tap the shaft out (and don't use an extension). Works every time.

    • Is it the stuck axle? If so, they recieved plenty of wd40. Had a hard time with the drivers side

    • @@OEMplusRESTO Ah ok, I didn't see that. But never hit the flange with a hammer on bare metal, if you don't plan on changing it anyway. It is absolutely crucial that the brake disc sits flat against it. BTW love your LSD rebuild in Pt. II

      @MJCGames@MJCGames Жыл бұрын
    • I dont show me spraying it again and afain with wd40 so you couldnt know. And maybe thats parts of what i should improve upon then. Communicatinh important info better. Your advice is duely noted about tha flange as well. Ill take any input i can get. Glad you liked the part 2 In a week or so i will have a better, shorter, yet more detailed video up about a 210mm diff im in the middle of rebuilding.. and if all the stars align, me putting the 188k converted diff through its paces as well.
