what an absolute UNIT Brian is.. seated 1100watt sprint after chasing LL the entire race. first crit back.. beyond impressive
Isn't Luke only like 22 years-old (edit: 19) too? Incredible athlete. Such a standup dude, and you rarely see him complain on social media haha. Thanks Jeff for the upload!
19
@@johnnytarmac4685 Incredible.
Just looked it up, and he's just 19. What an absolute beast.
Actually Luke is only 12 years old. Early bloomer and has fake ID already to get into bars.
@@lukewalker1051 his brother told me he's actually 8
Good to see Brian's racing again. 💯
Glad to see you racing again, Brian!! Welcome back !!
Great race and commentary! Really exciting to watch!
Congrats on your first race back Bry!!!
Brilliant result there for Brian, well done! - and thanks for the vid Jeff.
AWESOME to see Brian back in the mix!! It's always humbling and impressive to ride with top-level riders and appreciate how much fitter, stronger, and smarter they are.
Even though I know I'll probably never do anything like this, it's so motivating for me. Pumps me up for my workout
He also won Lincoln GP in the UK in May which is a National A road race, so not only is he insane in crits but also an awesome road racer!!
Good to see Brian back!
I didn't know much about that Trinity racing team of this Lamperti kid, but not only is he crazy strong for such a young age, i now see his DS & managers bear the names of Peter Kennaugh, Nicolas Roche or Ian Stannard, what an entourage ! One can easily imagine with such a patronage he's destined for World Tour races one day. Might even follow the footsteps of Tom Pidcock who also emerged out of this organisation and end up signing with the Brailsford crew. So all the more props to Brian for managing to stay in the mix with such a talented guy almost all the way till the end for his very first come-back race ! That's very impressive.
Reminder for you that you predicted the future in someway
@@patrickaulkemeyer1172Ahah thanks, yeah he signed with a very good world tour team (in spite of its lunatic moron of an owner) and i see on the Tour of Oman against a bunch half filled with 8 other WT teams he already managed to come second on the sprint twice, 2 days in a row. Wasn't full-tilt World Tour race yet but that's still really encouraging for his very first one of that caliber, they were some big Sprinter names there (like no other than Caleb Ewan). Same again on Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne just after Oman, 7th place not far at all behind Wout Van Aert that's really something !
Well done Brian!
Glad to him back racing! That seated sprint is still pretty damn good!
Congrats Bryan!
What a beautiful circuit ! thanks for yet another great video Jeff.
It looks like it's at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds in Santa Rosa, CA if you're interested.
it's a trip isn't it? Back in the 90"s, our Tuesday night Worlds, Wompatuck, would sometimes draw in Mark and/or Frank McCormack, who both held different national/pro titles at different times. Sometimes, it made the race a lot slower, we'd all be waiting for them to do something. Still fun though.
"These rides aren't easy, they ARE hard.." lol.. you don't say!.. Great video!
500W. IN HIS SLIPSTREAM. Damn. Just damn.
love that he has a seatpack... you know in case he has to pull over and fix a flat :)
This race is super interesting!!
Love the pillow protecting the pole from the riders at 1:44.
luke is a pure leg monster can't imagine the watts produced during that last 1 and a half lap🤯
George hincapie kid is a beast
The man rocking that saddlebag
Yay! Nice job!
No mention of the saddlebag Jeff???
Jeff is now researching "aero-bag"
Brian, you’re a BEAST! Your heart rate makes Chuck Norris envious. I don’t know how you didn’t blow a valve! 🫀
I use to train or ride with a friend in the 80s who rode on the Schwinn Ice hot team,, And you sure get a defrent perspective on how strong they are!! I got my asx handed to me all the time on 100 mile training rides!! I could complet the rides but damm.. !!
Welcome back
You gave him a huge boost after that slingshot 😂
There has to be something in the water in the Bay Area, because every category from juniors to masters is putting out huge hitters.
Lotta nasty hills to train on
Interesting to see the amount of Specialized and Bianchis in this race. I think there were like 2 Propels? 😂
Would love to see a dude on a Triban smoke everyone in one of these videos
@@KILLTHEREDDITOR I don't deserve to feel insulted with my RC120 lmao
Well the easiest explanation is usually the most accurate... Luke's an alien that's here scouting humans and earth... he's taken up cycling to pass the time away until he has to go back home...💁🏽♂️
i agree he is either an alien or a cyborg.
@@cornishcat11 🤣🤣🤣🤣 either or!!!
Luke riding the Sagan version of the Sagan LTD frame.... spesh didn't sell that bike with the pink seat post right? SO much drip!! 🤩
Its the trinity racing paint job, custom only for his team
@@TheIcelizard82 so cool. Thanks for the clarification
He's just scary good honestly
wow that was scary watching him sprint past in the rear cam
Can't believe the pace
Tuis guy is good a mean very powerful . But most important nice person humble
Is anyone going to talk about him riding with a bike bag in a crit🤣😅😂. Total Boss status.
Good vid… after last nights USA Pro Chmpshp - how about 200 V 1 “repeat”
He won a round of the tour series this year in the UK against the best
I want that, to be in front battling one person far from the pack, I would grinning so damn hard
Hey Jeff, gear setup question: You mentioned not too long ago, that 53-39 + 11-30 was a quite standard selection for crits. It seems odd to me that you would not ride 11-25 in events like this, can you elaborate a bit on your reasoning here?
11-30T (11 speed) is a close enough gear ratio for almost any kind of riding. 11-25 is pretty much obsolete now. That kind of cassette made more sense with 10 speed, but Shimano decided to keep it since some people still like to use it. If anything, using 54/42T chainrings would make more sense (combined with an 11-30T), as it's more efficient (less drivetrain friction) and keeps you closer to the center of the cassette, with a little extra top speed for the sprints
@@yogatriathlete Thank you, you're confirming everything I expected (and have experienced) myself, just nice to hear others affirm your ideas.
What Crit is this? I love watching these videos!
Santa Rosa Fair grounds in California. Don't know if they are still doing Tuesday Nights there, and we used to do the reverse way...
So i wonder how muts miles do you guys make in like a crit race Because in the netherlands i am a junior whe do like 100 km but how muts km is normal for you guys
Luke is who your favorite U.S continental crit “pro” wishes they could be. Very excited to see what world tour team picks him up
Didn't he win Tulsa with just himself and no team?
Don’t think a pro team will pick him up.
@@averageaaron1 Trinity is a Pro team. Just too Pro for US Crits
So what could Bryan have done in retrospect to better his result?
Was the sprint on a slope?
So why have I never heard of this guy and how does he do against Legion and the Williams brothers?
He won a stage of Tulsa against legion. He had no teammates.
@@NorCalCycling Wow! Dude is just super strong! He won the National title at 18? Against Legion? Does he have any bionics installed, because that seems superhuman.
Where is this course? A lot of it looks like Sonoma County fairgrounds, but there’s a couple unfamiliar buildings.
Good catch. It is the Sonoma County Fairgrounds. The event is the Tuesday Night Twilights, put on by Red Peloton. The next one is Aug 23.
@@philheiman7009 noticed the reverse direction this time and the trailers/RVs are gone. Lot safer looking despite what looks like a pillow(?) on a light pole! 😂
@@sknkwrksowner Yes, it’s an air bag, actually. I gather it’s more transportable and easier to handle than hay bales. And yes, the circus had departed by the time this race happened.
@@philheiman7009 Now that's a kind of cool idea indeed!
Genuine question, why does america have so so many national champions in cycling? Seems like a lot of people wear the national champs jersey every year? And yes, i get that obviously there is one for each discipline, TT, Crit, Road race etc. But i just seem to see so many people in usa claiming they’re the national champion, might be wrong but just wondering? Love the vids NC!
You have, pro, cat 1,2,3,4 masters 35-39, 40-44,45-49,50-54,55-59 etc. Add in road, crit,tt. Then there is track also.
2nd time saying that you should add a Q&A episodes every week😁
was it just for me or is the audio like 2-3 sec off-sync?
these are maybes!
"he is one of best in the world" does he races in World Tour ??
does anyone know what model Bianchi that team was riding?
I'm guessing the Oltre XR4
A quick lesson from a pro
My power meter says 60W and 440 BPM. this is bad, really bad.
1:37 those corners look kinda sketchy to me, like there’s loose dirt on the corners😬
Another frenemies episode.
NEW VIDeo?
Seems a lot of Bianchis in one crit?!
I hope Luke doesn't join L3gion he's our only hope at dethroning those guys lol
He's going to a WT team for sure
He's definitely tour level
And Luke does one better - he wins the Stars & Stripes jersey again
The race vids are cool, but how about some vids talking about training, cause most of the cyclist out there are not P1,2, and trying to get better. Training content would interest all levels of cyclist.. A Q and A, would generate more interaction on your comments too
There's already plenty of training videos on KZhead. The crit videos with commentary are far more entertaining imo.
@@MRDTBOSS They are entertaining, but that's it, but I think some people would like to hear from THIS particular individual how HE trains, and his opinions on training, since he has done some vids other than racing, it would add some other facets to his single faceted vids.
He's done training videos and given a breakdown of how he trains. It's not something you can cover that many times.
@@letheal haha, yes, you can..That's like saying, a person covers racing, they've done it many times, there's not much else to cover.
@@cliffcox7643 His team is up against Legion though. I don't think they will share too much of their secret sauce if you think about it.
Some people are just extra...
Dude is racing with a repair kit on his back
So technically it was a 3rd
I've really learned nothing here. Luke has the power and fitness that only 0.001 percent have. With that much fitness you can employ the same "strategy" as cat 5 racers and triathletes: just time trial the legs off everyone.
he was racing extra aggressive in order to win but also get a really good workout. with his fitness in this field he could be sloppy with tactics
@@NorCalCycling Thanks for the video and it was jaw dropping to see Luke's physical prowess. My real disappointment is that cat 5 racers will see just this one video (many of whom have never heard of Norcal) and say "See, there's nothing wrong with my unwillingness to draft and learn race tactics. I just need to ride faster than everyone, like Luke".
1k watts is not enough... lol
Jeff, I saw this video a few days ago and wondered what you think of it. My only exposure to crit racing is via your channel, and the comments were quite mixed. Would love to hear your commentary on the video. kzhead.info/sun/ZbqmlZyuiZRtoaM/bejne.html
They don’t put they’re hands up when the win 🥇 while crossing the finish line?
Did I see FOUR Bianchi of the same color?
same team. Swift racing academy
@@asiantrick24 thanks, man. I'm not sure if he said that in the video, but I might have missed
Looks easy compared to Belgian 'kermis' races
sprinters have higher arched feet
Best rider, but that saddle bag 🤔
That wasn’t a funny thing to say :((((
Now imagine if you guys would race against the absolute best, aka the Belgians.
For real?
"European fitness" is a great euphemism 💉
Nice to see cynicism isn't completely dead. Lol!
