This is the dramatic moment a bushbuck puts forward all it can to literally fight for its life!
BOOK YOUR TRIP TO KRUGER: bit.ly/BookatKruger
This heart-wrenching sighting was captured by Jacques Proust, while on a photographic safari at MalaMala Game Reserve, located within the Sabi Sands, Greater Kruger Park.
Send in your wildlife video here, and earn money: www.latestsightings.com/partn...
Jacques tells LatestSightings.com the story:
“I was conducting a photographic safari, and, on this particular drive, we were looking for small things to photograph when we approached this small waterhole in the central part of the reserve. We found a Hooded Vulture perched on a dead Knob-Thorn Tree, and decided we would try and photograph it.”
“I switched off the vehicle and we sat waiting for it to fly. With cameras at the ready, and the vulture testing our patience - I noticed an animal standing not more than 40 meters away in a small tributary that feeds into the Sand River.”
“To my absolute amazement, it was a wild dog! I couldn’t believe our luck. We put down our cameras and I started up the car and approached the animal. As I slowly approached, I noticed that it was quite inquisitive. We looked in the thickets and noticed a male bushbuck standing there. I knew this would be a tough antelope to bring down for one wild dog.”
“Suddenly, out of nowhere, a second and then a third wild dog approached.”
“A peaceful wait for the vulture to fly turned into a fierce battle between the wild dogs and a brave bushbuck.”
“The bushbuck put up quite the fight but it was inevitably consumed by the wild dogs. It was an incredible sighting. The tactics displayed by the wild dogs were amazing to watch, as well as the fight in the male bushbuck.”

    • Yes you are right, they can inflict massive damage very quickly, even though they are not as big as lions. It seems they bite and literally rip off flesh with every bite. The main aim it seems is to get as much meat into their stomach as quickly as possible. Unreal.

It’s easy to feel sad for the little Buck but the bigger picture is that they (Wild Dogs) have to sustain themselves and no doubt feed their rising community of boisterous pups. It is often bittersweet but such is the animal kingdom, they are essentially governed to rise and fall by their instinct, not our human morals or compassion. This is pretty much their solution to fast food.

    • Humans have a choice, what to do, where to go. The animals don't. They just follow instinct and hunt, with zero malice towards the prey. If you don't have a choice, you can't be held responsible, even for something gruesome - so the animals are innocent, by our morals, no matter how many they kill.

  • Wow! I give that bushbuck tons of credit, he took being eaten alive like a champ, he didn't make a sound! Literally every type of antelope would've been screaming at some point.

    @angelus3605@angelus36052 жыл бұрын
    • Not really. You can watch antelopes and impalas getting eaten alive by wild dogs, hyenas, lions etc. without making a sound (after one point). I believe the excruciating levels of pain deprive them of making any kind of sound.

  • At 1:44 you can see one of the wild dogs stop biting on the prey and to lookout for any predators and a couple of seconds later the one on the right did the same thing and they keep doing this while they are eating. The dogs know that this is the wild and that predators such as lions or hyenas could be on the way, fascinating.

  • eesh. the spotter said it. dogs are not like the cats. the cats will suffocate it. dogs disembowel and dig in. seems to take forever before the antelope go into shock. edit: happened across a 2008 vid of lions killing hippos. the hippos are too big for the lions to suffocate (at least the adult one is), so the lions eat alive. it's mostly about jaw vs. prey size and, of course, dogs and cheetahs have to "wolf" down their food ASAP before the larger predators can push them off the kill. here's the lion vs. hippos vid: kzhead.info/sun/qrdqorltinOpno0/bejne.html

  • I cannot decide which would be worse... being burned alive or eaten alive by wild dogs. That has GOT to be one of the most painful ways to die. And I have seen prey survive for several minutes even when an entire pack is eating on it. One thing is FOR SURE... if I ever have to choose between a hungry pack of wild dogs and a hungry pride of lions, I will choose the lions.
