Cute wild dog pups that were left alone by parents for a few minutes have an unlucky encounter with an aggressive male lion!
BOOK YOUR TRIP TO KRUGER: bit.ly/BookatKruger
This incredible, but unfortunate, turn of events was captured by 22-year-old junior actuarial analyst, Jared Wolf, while on his trip to the Lion Sands Game Reserve located within the Sabi Sands, Greater Kruger Park, with his family.

Jared tells LatestSightings.com the story:
“We had told our ranger at the start of our stay that we were desperate to see a pack of wild dogs as they are my favourite animal.
Shortly after our first morning drive had started, our ranger said that another vehicle had found a pack of wild dogs with 16 pups, so, we immediately set off to join the other vehicle.”
“Our day started off with excitement and pure joy, but, ended with heartache and plenty of tears.”
“We spent a bit of time watching the wild dog pack interacting. The mother came every so often and regurgitated for them so that they could eat and stay strong. But, as the mother left the pups for a few minutes, probably in search of new food, all hell broke loose!”
“Out of nowhere, an aggressive male lion barged into the scene and unfortunately got hold of two wild dog pups. The aggressive lion was then joined by 3 other male lions. The same lion that caught the pups set off shortly after in the same direction as the pack of wild dog pups and adults that had escaped, and we started to fear the worst - perhaps he was after more pups.”
“Fortunately, our ranger then saw another pride of lions up ahead with 1 young male lion and a couple of females that were eating the remains of the impala carcass that the wild dogs had taken down an hour earlier.”
“The same lion that had caught the pups seemed to be on somewhat of an aggressive killing spree, as after spotting the young male lion from the other pride, he set off after that young male. Fortunately, the young male lion got away and the sighting ended with the lion along with his brothers vocalising out on an open plain, almost arrogantly announcing themselves as the sole kings of this new territory that they had taken over in a matter of minutes!”
“We saw, 2 different sightings of lion and 24 wild dogs all interacting within 100m of each other!”

Because if an animal tries to attack them, they will be forced to terminate the animal if they have weapons. Only a guess here, if anyone actually knows for sure I'm open to being wrong- but I think the Lions are so used to humans they just don't bother with em. Sort of like how they don't hunt the birds. Then I figure a Lion sees all those people in a truck, and rather than perceiving it as 6 people in a truck, it views it more like a 6 headed rhino.

    • From what friends who've went on Safaris have told me, it's not the Lions that they have to worry about. It's the Hippos. Lions tend to act just like these in the videos. Hippos will charge the truck from 1/4 mile away and they mean business. The guides are pretty relaxed at the Lion sightings. They get ready to get out of there quick at the Hippo sightings.

    • Unlike hyenas, the humans in the jeeps have never actually tried to steal food from lions, and while they may prefer to keep a comfortable distance between themselves and the humans in the jeeps, they do not perceive them as being "competitors", and are otherwise not fearful or threatened by their presence. Also, as seen here, they may actually even use them on occasion as a sort of diversionary decoy to maintain cover and avoid detection from their targeted prey for a longer period of time before they pounce and make their kill. Very intelligent animals, these lions.

Attacking that is the very last thing they'll ever think off. That's also why incase an attack happens, it's usually enough to throw something at the animal. It won't understand the concept of the big thing suddenly being a lot of smaller things and run off confused. There's a fascinating video about a leopard attacking a guide jeep and being fended off like that.

This dynamic also helps explain why animals do things or have characteristics to make themselves look larger-to avoid being perceived as easy prey. Smithsonian Mag

Only when they really feel threatened or their privacy continuously broken that they attack. Elephants are more dangerous than tigers or lions, because big cats take vehicles as animals bigger than them, but elephants view the vehicles as smaller to their size. Also, Tigers are more shy. PS: I've sighted three tigers in Jim Corbett National Park in India in the last couple of days, and none of them posed any threat to humans, while walking beside the vehicles.

      @diggingholes2544@diggingholes25443 жыл бұрын
    • That’s so not true. There’s videos on KZhead showing Tigers ambushing vehicles with people in them. I’ve also seen one where a leopard attacks a man in a vehicle. These cats have superhuman senses... I’m pretty sure they know the vehicle isn’t one big animal. They can see, smell, hear the people etc. Most likely they are used to it and don’t see them as prey from experience. There was even one clip I saw where a park ranger exited the truck unaware lions where nearby. When he noticed them they just stared at him as he calmly went back in his vehicle.

  • I don't know whether to feel impressed how the tour guide along with the tourists are brave enough to be in an open vehicle that close around lions or to feel that they are just plain stupid.

    @jacobbey1465@jacobbey14653 жыл бұрын
    • Whether impressed believing them to be brave, or judging them to be possibly stupid is based upon ignorance either way. It is also incredibly limiting to presume those are the only possibilities. With that being said, in no way I am saying that to make you feel diminished in any way whatsoever, as it is not anything personal intended to be taken as a personal attack upon you. It is an attack however on the mind's trickery of thought patterns. You are not your mind, and the mind is wonderful servant/tool but a terrible master and should never be allowed to guide you through life.

I've seen other predators kill smaller or injured predators for food; but the Big Cats seem to be the only ones that go out of their way to stalk and kill other predators for the sole purpose of eliminating competition, and not to consume 🍖.
