  • Of all the "X is a failed Spartan" theories I've seen, Maine is at the top of my list. Listening to the Counselor's assessment of him in Season 13, it really seems like he comes from the same stock as Jorge or the Chief. He thinks of himself solely in terms of being a soldier, never seems to even consider questioning an order from a superior, and yet sees his duty as a soldier as more than simply following orders. All of which was very much part of the S-II program's training regimine. It's easy to imagine him being a recruit that suffered severe brain damage from the implantation process, and was deemed unfit for duty as a Spartan before being transferred to Freelancer.

  • The best I can come up with to explain CT's artifact hunt is that Charon's little private security force wasn't exactly legal either, so them going public with her evidence would have potentially put them all under a lot of scrutiny. So the artifact, being a Monitor, would probably contain a significant amount of valuable information that could be used as a bargaining chip. Kinda like Wash's situation later on. It's also possible the Insurrection Leader had started to realize what kind of person HE was working for too, and wanted to find a way to get himself and his unit out from under Hargrove's thumb. Recall how CT said, "Make a deal with *us,* keep *us* out of prison." Bit of a reach, sure, but much less so than any explanation I've come up with for the Blood Gulch Chronicles...

    @bowenorcutt78@bowenorcutt78 Жыл бұрын
    • This is the best idea I've seen! But do you have a theory on why Carolina wanted it too? Because in the Freelancer Saga (Season 9 or 10, I forget which), when she led the crew to find CT's body (which turned out to be the Resistance Leader), she was looking for the Monitor body, and then got REALLY pissed when Caboose explained that they left it in a warehouse floor (after Church got himself a new human body, in Season 8).

  • The Triplets took out so much of the mystique surrounding Freelancer and then we got the final nail in the coffin with most of the surviving Freelancers being killed by Temple in Season 15. It’s one of the reasons I am more than happy to view Season 13 as the end of the series.

    @TheXehanorto@TheXehanorto Жыл бұрын
    • To further add onto this, as someone whose been part of a writing collaboration since Season 10 ended that has focused on further Project Freelancer to its eventual downfall and the aftermath, Season 14 basically spat on the type of people that were meant to be in the program. Sure in Seasons 9 and 10, Wash was a goofball, but he had the skill to see the mission through. The Triplets should’ve never been on Freelancer’s radar as potential recruits.

      @TheXehanorto@TheXehanorto Жыл бұрын
    • I wonder if the triplets were actually only accepted into the freelancer program as a test to see if sim troopers could actually become useful soldiers if given the chance. When that was proven to be a failure they were disposed of.

    • @@iainkilcar7463 mean, there is the theory that Sister, Donut, and Jenkins are all Freelancer Washouts. That replacement list included Agent Hawaii, Agent Kansas, and Agent Georgia. Sister and Griff are Hawaiian, but Sister exhibits her unique ability to survive things that should’ve otherwise have killed her. Donut mentions his time in Kentucky working on farms, among his other activities, and is notorious for his insane accuracy for lobbing grenades. Jenkins? Well, when shown in those weird scenario flashback things his armor is shown to sport the same color and emblem as Georgia when we see him and had the same voice actor. With his failure with the jetpacks and likely destruction of a vital prototype, I wouldn’t be surprised if such a low ranking Freelancer also got the Triplet Treatment. While some might say “Is Caboose one?” Nah. He’s a moon-born/raised sim trooper who attended Harvard for his degree in engineering and only seemingly got dumber over time as a result of oxygen deprivation due to a damaged helmet. Even in the start of the Chorus arc we see his intelligence shine through as he reassembled a Mantis of all things, a fully functional one. While some might ask if he’s so smart why didn’t he repair Shelia, we got to remember he didn’t think of her so much as a machine, but as a person he liked and didn’t want to possibly harm her by trying to help her. Freckles he saw more as a pet that he wanted to help and tend to himself.

  • I always loved how Red vs Blue seems like it could fit in a corner in the Halo Universe, at least until Season 15+. I really wished Tex and Carolina could've had one last conversation that didn't end in spatting and having hissy fits. I also theorize that the reason Tex joined Wyoming in capturing Junior was because Project Freelancer was originally created to stop the Great War/Human-Covenant War. Alpha was getting tortured to try to find a way to stop it. Tex figured that using Junior to stop the war would save Alpha. So, ultimately, what felt like a betrayal at the end of Season 5 was actually supposed to be to save him. Oh boy, as far as CT finding out about the unethical practices goes, she would go pretty nuts if she found out that this was virtually _nothing_ compared to the SPARTAN-II Program led by Doctor Halsey. Ironically, the Spartans are both polar opposite and better than Freelancers in almost every way. The Spartan Program was more unethical and gruesome, yet created more powerful and professional soldiers that would fight together and win against more overwhelming odds. On the note of the Insurrection, I'm pretty sure there were never any actual Insurrectionists. All of the so-called Insurrectionists were actually either mercenaries, PMCs for Charon, or actual UNSC soldiers. I believe Project Freelancer was actually headed and funded by the likes of ONI from actual Halo canon, because that's exactly something ONI would do. I find it kinda funny that, of all the Freelancers, Washington is the only one who was confirmed to have fought the Covenant considering how much of a innocent, mediocre klutz he was in his early history with Project Freelancer. As a final note, Wyoming, Gamma, and Omega's plan to kidnap Junior and use him to manipulate the aliens is almost a 1-for-1 interpretation of what Operation Red Flag was in Halo canon, the main difference being the Spartans were supposed to capture a Prophet and use him as a bargaining chip instead of a manipulation tool.

    • I like the idea that the reason none of these freelancer technologies made their way into the unsc is due to the instability of both the augments and the AI fragments. spartans were much more valuable, so ONI couldn't risk one being taken down or manipulated by their own AI. freelancer tech was akin to some of the crazy aircraft designs from boeing and lockheed martin during the cold war: very effective, but either too inconsistent, too dangerous, too expensive, or just plain impossible

    • I think CT might have been an actual insurrectionist (or like thinking she was joining an actual insurrection). And maybe the core members too (Resistance Leader, and maybe the other core members like Sharkface, Sniper, Chain Guy & Girl, Sleeveless, Demoman, and Girlie), since they didn't have traditional standard issue armor like the rest of Charon's pirates and mercs, or the UNSC soldiers. I guess they could have been PMCs, but the Resistance Leader at least seemed like he truly believed in his cause, considering how he and Connie talked. Edit: Oh yeah another thing about the insurrection stuff, what role did Rhee Sebiel play in that? Was he just one of Hargrove's office people? (he was the briefcase guy that they had to get during the same mission they found the big sarcophagus in during the Freelancer Saga flashback sequences)

      @Yoda_16358@Yoda_16358 Жыл бұрын
    • @@Yoda_16358 their armor is ODST, something that still belongs to UNSC forces. They are the Helljumpers, the best of the best, just below Spartans in Halo lore. Actual Insurrectionists in Halo lore don't really have a uniform of any kind. All of their stuff is either stolen or ramshackled together. Also, Charon is a weapons manufacturer in RvB, so it makes sense that they align more with UNSC. Thus, I am still convinced they are either current or former UNSC soldiers.

  • Carolina is one of the most tragic characters of RVB. A girl who grew up with memories of her parents together, her mothers death and how that death sent her dad spiraling in grief. She was there in his grief as he went father and father into obsession about bringing her back. She entered the program to make him proud yet he never openly expressed his pride in her even when she pushed herself mentally and physically to become the best candidate all because that grief powered obsession to “get it right”. That’s the tragedy, he couldn’t see that in his pursuit of bringing his true love back he was ignoring and traumatizing the best part of her left. The final scene between the two is the icing on the sad cake. A man left with nothing but memories and regrets. He knows in the end of his many failures, he failed Allison, his program was a failure and he failed his daughter. He finally admits that his daughter was his greatest creation… a creation he failed. This was RvB at its best, it had all the best writing when it came to humor, action and drama. So sad the series fell from grace as it did and now it is coming to an end.

    • This is why my fan theory is that York did survive. We know in season 10 he was talking about Delta getting more personable and even telling lies (he told Wash that eating with his helmet on would be more efficient). And we can suspect that Project Freelancer was not keen on letting go of personnel or resources, which might be part of why York had to keep thieving and moving around rather than getting a job. Therefore my head canon is that York did survive, but Delta claimed he would die so that Project Freelancer would leave him alone. The issue with this theory is why did Washington find York's body and Delta. Well, we also know from the Freelancer arc that Delta can quickly make a back-up of himself. Perhaps after Tex left, York finished healing, then put his armor on one of the dead bodies he and Tex had killed. He could leave the healing unit and a copy of Delta behind. Then York and the original Delta set out to a retirement of thievery or other shenanigans. Yes, I'm aware this almost certainly is not what RT intended, and the evidence points to York being dead, but there's enough wiggle room for the head canon to be possible, and thus York is clearly still alive and well living his best life with Delta. :D (Also we never witnessed North's death so I insist on believing that he didn't die and joined York in retirement. The how does not matter, maybe he pulled a similar stunt or something. Both freelancers deserve to live their lives.)

  • Honestly looking back, the freelancer seasons (9 and 10) were probably my favorite seasons of RvB and that might be solely due to the story of Project Freelancer itself and the way they wrote the freelancers themselves (I even still have that shirt RT sold that had most of the freelancers on it, big fan). Shame we never got to see more of the other freelancers only mentioned in name (especially when we saw the armors in season 15, though still not too big a fan of the season itself. Kinda wish 14 delved more into the past of them like it did with the blood gulch reds and felix and locust. Anyway great video on the freelancers, made me remember what I loved about them and keep up the great work. Peace.

  • Honestly, when you summarized season 15. I realized how much potential the premise actually had and wish it could’ve definitely been explored in a spin off series rather than the actual show. I think we’re all burned out on RvB so watching a spin-off series about sim trooper veterans being disillusioned, mistreated, and above all executed by the government they served for and to be abandoned would’ve been an amazing show.

There's the fact Carolina is ambidextrous, using both hand, has 2 armor enhancements, and even 2 AI. Even if she had Sigma instead it would have still fit the 2 theme with Sigma having 2 aspects, creativity and ambition. Not to mention when she's first introduced we see her working with North & South Dakota, drawing emphasis on the fact Carolina is called neither North or South.

  • I think an overlooked aspect of the Meta is how much his injury played into his tragic downfall. Immediately after recovery from the throat injury, he had Sigma in his head. Imagine hearing a voice in your head without any way for you to express yourself outwardly. It would be very difficult to socialize with other people and even keep your own thoughts straight, especially with a twisted AI like Sigma constantly trying to warp your ambitions. The Meta has always been my favorite villain in this series lol

  • So I realize I'm way late with this comment, but I've only just stumbled on your videos. I've really enjoyed your breakdown on the RvB characters and story lines. I'd love to get your take on one piece of information if you read this. I hear most fans claim there are 50 freelancers, but Carolina has never been designated North or South or shown to have a counterpart. Also the twins are simply referred to as North and South which would add confusion if there were a North and South Carolina. I also think that from a writer's perspective having one Carolina is an interesting way to elude to the fact that she will have 2 AIs. From what I can remember the only place the exact number of freelancers is stated is in a conversation between Tex and Tucker stating there were 49 because of "poor Florida", but based on events she would have been lying to him anyway. If she was counting all freelancers she would have known Florida was one and if she was only counting living freelancers there would be less than 49 as Utah was also dead by this time. Let me know if you think there's another Carolina out there.

  • Its kinda funny, me and a buddy grew up watching RVB, and I vividly remember us both trying to claim a state to give our Halo 3 characters more depth/lore. He took on Kansas and I took Alaska. All these years later and RT finally brought both of them into their story. And even though Alaska was killed in what I would say is a mediocre way, it's fitting considering I moved on in life and essentially left my adaptation of Alaska suspended in time for well over a decade.

  • I think the biggest problem I have with the Golden age of RvB is that the Freelancer saga wasn't a full trilogy. I get they wanted to cap it at a nice 10 seasons. But the Freelancer plot really needed another seasons to properly develop some plotlines and characters. Characters like Omega, Wyoming, Maine (pre throat damage), CT and Gamma were sorely underused. I get their priorities were to introduce and build Carolina as the main lead, but they left so many characters in the dust in service of that. I would've liked to see more of a talking Maine being a snarky prick like he was characterized as in Season 8 with Wash
