What is Alex Trebek's crippling disappointment?
(March/12/2015 episode)
(March/12/2015 episode)
On the March 12 episode of Jeopardy, only one contestant, Kristin, made it through to the "Final Jeopardy" round, having stayed above a score of $0.
Alex Trebek was clearly disappointed with all three contestants as they repeatedly answered incorrectly while the game clock wore down, afterwards stating: "This was not one of our greatest days."
So clear was the host's internal dissatisfaction that he, at one point, made this face:
"Kristin and I are alone together," Trebek declared upon coming back from a commercial break. The loneliest version of the "Final Jeopardy" jingle then began to play, as the host and sole contestant hung out alone on stage.
Though Kristin answered the final question incorrectly, she only bet a small amount of her total winnings.
Hang in there, Alex. It'll get better
I thought she was going to bet and lose it all. Now THAT would have been awkward.
Like Cliff Clavin in Cheers!
+Formerly Peasant I don't think so. I believe under the Jeopardy Rules you can't win with $0, even if you're the only one left standing. I think there would be no winner and the next game would start with three new contestants.
Given that when two people tie for first, they both move on, I imagined that all three would play the next day myself. I could be wrong though.
No. you have to have at least $1 to win. If you have $0 or negative dollars, you lose automatically. You also can't go into final Jeopardy with Negative or 0 dollars.
Jim Gardner who are three people that have never been in my kitchen?
It wasnt really that painful to watch.
Anthony Allen How did this comment get 334 likes while over a span of over 2 years no one replied?
Anthony Allen it was pretty painful to watch
real shit raweet hee
because replies vanish into a black hole
Carlos Matos //right. ive gone back before when i saw that someone had replied to my reply on a comment and mine was gone!
I would have bet $0 and my answer would have been "I Win hahaha"
Same hahaha
Some guy actually did that, or close to it. He bet $0 and wrote "Some guy in Normandy, but I just won $75,000"
You would've bet nothing? If you were the only one playing, why give up the chance at *more money*?
And that "Some guy in Normandy" guy was in a *tournament*. This right here is just regular play.
Someone actually did that at the end of the championship. He wrote "What is.... I don't care, I just won a million dollars!" or something
I don't really see how it was awkward. Her being alone was a good thing. Losing all.of her money would have been awkward.
If I were the only one in final Jeopardy then I would be one of those people that wins the game with $1 if I got it wrong
Yeah it wasn't like they were alone together in a bedroom
*Brad and Stephanie left the chat*
Seriously! That's what I thought was going to happen!
“You were in third place, and the lead” 🤣
TBH I really don't think finishing in the red on Jeopardy necessarily means you're a dumb person. A lot of what we see on the show really just comes down to who is quickest on the signaling device and/or who can maintain their cool the best while under the lights and in front of Alex and the audience. You have to remember: everyone who gets on Jeopardy passed the online test, and also passed an in-person test as proof that they weren't faking it. They were among the few hundred that were selected to be on the show that year in a pool of potentially thousands upon thousands (maybe even millions). They clearly have the smarts to succeed, but things in the end just didn't work in their favor. I actually feel a little bit of sympathy for most contestants who end up in the negatives. Any one of them could easily have shined bright on a different day, but ended up in circumstances (be it dealing with categories that aren't their strongest point, being nervous under the lights, dealing with a buzzsaw, etc.) that prevented them from showing off their full potential. Brad and Stephanie both easily could have been at least one or two day champs if they were in different situations. If they made it to the show after passing several tests and an in-person audition, they clearly aren't stupid.
$-6,800? Hahaha how the hell did she even get selected? That's one of the worst scores ever.
No. That IS the worst score ever.
She must have knew someone on the show or in the agency. OR when they quiz these people to let them on someone else took the quiz and did good so she goes on and knows nothing.. lmfao
PwntsRocksU No. Just no...
***** LOL funny shit
***** That's not what Trebek's mother says.
RIP Alex Trebek :( 1940-2020
Alex we love you man amen
If I wasn't the champion, I'd bet everything but a dollar and get the question wrong intentionally just so Johnny would say "Whose one day cash winnings total $1" the next day during introductions.
Henry Black it's happened before, in 1993
I don't know why but I can't stop laughing at this comment
link that?
Well I'll be damned.
It would be interesting to hear him try to say that with a straight face. XD
the title of the video should be "Uninteresting 'Final Jeodardy' with Only One Contestant that is Kinda Funny- Not 'Haha' Funny Though"
This reply was better than the entire video
If you are in the minus you should owe Jeopardy money.
Jeopardy bookies come to collect. "This bone on your body that is about to be broken with a baseball bat" "What is my knee?" "Correct!" *Knee cracks. Contestant screams.*
If that's the case, then Jeopardy should have to give you whatever you win for 2nd and 3rd place (not 2,000 or 1,000 dollars only).
Holy crap, would that not actually improve the game? Brilliant.
Heatwave That would be funny if they did do that. Second place is 2 bucks and the third placed contestant is at 1 dollar and that's what they get.
You do have to pay it back.
It used metaphor in the fucking sentence why would it be metaphor, fuck XD
Mims Zanadunstedt To he fair, trebek also called it a metafur.
I knew that answer and I'm 10 lol.
Mims Zanadunstedt they said metaphorically so it's not the same but it's still a dumb answer
It could've been metaphor tho. Metaphorically and figuratively aren't very different
+K A Not _very_ different, but different. Similes wouldn't be used when speaking metaphorically, so no, it couldn't reasonably have been metaphorically. Also, Jeopardy! clues are very careful not to give away any hints to the answer, so the answer wouldn't have been a form of a word already stated.
That was anti climatic. I thought she was going to wager all her money in final jeopardy lol
Me too. DOH!
Anti climatic? What did they have against the climate?
hyzercreek lmao you absolute legend
The closest awkward moment was when Alex said "we're all alone." But even then it still wasn't that awkward.
All this provoked in me was confusion.
Indeed. As my old Dad used to say, "Don't get greedy". Why did this clothy-headed bint wager more then zero dollars? Sheesh.
Stephanie will be relieved today that she is no longer the lowest scorer in Jeopardy history. That belongs to Patrick Pearce.
Eh... that wasn't particularly painful to watch.
Agreed. Painful would be if she'd pulled a Cliff Clavin, or even close to it.
Agreed
RIP Alex Trebek :'( (1940-2020)
Alex we love you man
"a small victory" I literally don't know what I would do if I won $6000

Awkward 'Final Jeopardy' with ***CLICKBAIT!*** is painful to watch
wtf if i was the ONLY competitor in the final round, id bet only a fucking dollar. no matter if i knew the answer or not.
***** didnt know that!
+Aaron Turner She was trying to make more money. My brain is too tired to think about whether it was a rational decision or not but that was probably her reasoning. She was going to win anyway, she just got greedy.
+Dony Christie Unless you're 100% sure of the answer, best to wager $0 in this situation.
+fedos Why? Unless you're betting everything, why not go for a little more money? What's $1,600 against $31K?
+fedos You make your bet before you see the question. You can't change it if you don't know the answer.
On 1:31 Alex Trebek may get fustrated when she gets the final Jeopardy answer incorrect. Alex Trebek may say to her, "You get nothing! You got the incorrect answer on the final Jeopardy, and your score went down! You didn't win anything on this round! I'm sorry! You lose! Good day Kristen!"
I wonder which contestant went on to the next episode.
The winner, of course, followed by two new contestants.
patrickbama1234 The joke Your head
+randman Jeff
+randman Alex
What was painful to watch? Did I miss something?
I KNOW, Right?! THAT's what I thought after watching the full minute & change. I think it's just another case of ppl "Over-Titling" their vids to increase hits!
She was almost $6000 in red. That's rare.
Why did she bid anything at all?
If she got it right she'd increase her winnings, so just a gamble on that is all. She would've gotten to $10,000 even had she been right.
Well its not like she was going to lose much. Though it WOULD have been hilarious had she bid EVERYTHING. That would have been the icing on the cake with Brad and Stephanie.
I didn't think it would "take a rocket scientist" to know why she bet $1,600. That would have made her payment, if correct, a perfect $10,000. Humans like easy round numbers.
Well, why deny yourself the chance at more cash?
R.I.P. Alex.
So long
Has there ever been a game where all three contestants finish in the red?
I’m not sure about all being red but I know there was one where they all got 0
If I'm not mistaken it happened once during the 1964-75 version when Art Fleming hosted. It has never happened in the Alex Trebek era.
It has happened in the Trebek era, and there's video of it somewhere
@@TyDurr1 All 3 finished Double Jeopardy in the red during the Trebek era? I'd like to see that.
@@TyDurr1 nope, it never happened with Trebek.
Ironic how Stephanie was $6800 in the hole and Kristin left with exactly $6800
Not irony bud just coincidence. Peace!
This was literally not irony. Literally.
Aaron Gentry Illuminati. No question.
Moksha Isn't it ironic? Don't you think.
No.
This isn't awkward or painful in any way unless you're one of the two that didn't make it this far.
Alex mispronounced "metaphor" as "meta-FER." If someone had done something similar to his "precious" French, you would have never heard the end of it! Alex would be ready to rip off his hair piece and toss it at the offending party! LOL!
Imagining losing a game show so badly you owe them almost 7Gs
Imagine thinking that a game show has the authority to make people pay off a fake deficit. Like, the ’90s game show _Debt_ with Wink Martindale would literally have never existed LMFAO.
I love that disappointed "no".
if someone ends jeopardy with a negative amount do they have to pay? lol
So many posts and shares about this being awkward and painful. I expected her to have bet all her winnings. Buzzkill.
jameygamer Yes, it would have been immensely idiotic, which would have lived up to the hype I read on the subject.
Theoretically what would happen if someone bet it all on the final jeopardy answer when being the only one playing it?
mrbow50001 if he/she missed it 3 new people would come back next time
+nintendonerdsvideos "3 new people would come back"? That doesn't make sense. But yes, there would be 3 new people on the show...case in point, episode 2 of Season 1.
+Nick O'Connor (Arcticity) If you were on the show, would you do that? I wouldn't. Because me being a fan of the show, I know $0 is *not* a winning score.
Thought she was going to pull a cliff and bet it all then cover the screen 🤣
Nothing wrong with this, she just wanted to add a little $$ to her total but didn't get it
Where can I get the full episode to this?
"Metaphorically". LOL... Go back to high school girl!!
She did worse then Marge Simpson!
Bruh I learned that in 5th grade
Gerry Aire lmao
Lee Sonnenburg
woopygoman You should've made fun of Alex for saying metaphors wrong too.
It's almost like watching celebrity jeopardy from Saturday Night Live. Lol
'Metafurs'? Okay, whatever you say, Alex.
+Meteorite And this is the guy who once chastised a contestant for saying "Wimbleton"
most people correct lingo to their native version, without realizing others might have correct pronunciations as well except when its about pronouns because pronouns can be from a foreign language and need to be pronounced anyways and do not technically have a native pronunciation for it that can be proper.
I'm surprised nobody knew that softball answer: "figurative". Problem is that most Americans use the word literal to mean figurative.
I wonder if they would have taken figurative language? That was my guess.
DiskoSpider The category was 5 syllable words so no.
please don't lump all Americans together. there are 300 million of them ~ some of whom actually know things.
moiraine_damodred that's why I said most instead of all.
***** Ted Mosby reference. Well done sir!
Did I hear Darude Sandstorm at 0:22?
That is the buzzer it means time is up
I guessed the CIA.
I'll take 'Catch the semen' for 800.
It's not... catch... the semen.
So Jin Choi Is that what the moustache is for, Trebek? HA! HAHAHAHA!
+96 Bars It's "ape tit"
+Groovy Satan There was another one with the category "Let It Snow" which of course led to "I'll take Le Tits Now."
Lol!!!!!!
I thought she was going to bet it all on Final Jeopardy LOL
Yes she is on her own
Watched entire video and I'm not in the least bit of pain! But seriously folks, what was so painful about that clip? Am I missing something here?
Painful is owing $6,800 to the Jeopardy producers... oh boy, I don't envy these guys.
Trebek was waiting by their cars with a crowbar. "Where's the money?"
+OnlyLogical Its a joke bud.
etherealgaming I lost on Jeopardy
not so "logical" after all, are we?
"I'll not pay this fine I've incurred, IT'S UNJUST!"
Minus 6800 ? Damn Stephanie get it together !!! Is this the SNL version of Celebrity Jeopardy ??!!
She’s not stupid. A big part of Jeopardy is intelligence, sure, but another part is based on knowing the categories and on nerves. Have you ever considered that her score could be due to nerves and not lack of intelligence?
I WATCHED THIS 3 WEEKS AGO AND STILL CAN'T SLEEP. THE PAIN WONT GO AWAY. WHY DID YOU DO THIS TO ME?
Lol at the red negative overdraft scores.
The video is over and I'm still waiting for the "awkward/painful to watch" part, lol.
I thought "What is Social Security?" I probably would have got it wrong for failing to add "Administration."
October 13, 2020 Another single contestant for final jeopardy.
They have a full open bar in the green room. Those other two left feeling good in the end.
Don't worry Stephanie, Alex accepts a payment plan. Just send him $100 a month for the next 7 years and you're good to go!
Wish she bet all of it to lose lol
The most painful and hilarious thing of this video was watching -5800 lady whiff one final time.
Lied to get us to watch- internet in a nutshell.
It's not a lie. Are you so stupid that you can't read properly?
The reason I am calling Alex MR. Trebek is because I know several people named Alex and I would think of those people instead of him. That is why I would call him MR. Trebek on Jeopardy. I think MR. Trebek was soooo funny! "Christen we're gonna start with you. You're in 3rd place, and in the lead!" Hahahaha!
Dont watch thisif you came to comments first. Stupid clickbait headline. She only bets like 1200 or something. Im not even going to look at the end to see again. Thats how stupid this video is.
+Derek Rowe what did what she bet have to do with it? The issue was only having one contestant left
+Catrina B because they make it seem like she was going to bet most or all of the money and no one wins. It's not awkward at all. Did you feel it was awkward? Maybe I'm not seeing it. Idk
I just assumed it was awkward because there was only one contestant
+Derek Rowe calm down its only a game!
+Derek Rowe Let me tell you this--if she had bet all her money on that FJ!, she would've lost. And then they would've had 3 new players on the next show. When she realized she was the only one left, she also realized that betting it all was not a good idea. (But neither is betting nothing, in this case)
Alex’s humor will be missed
We love you Alex
Kristin, were gonna start with you🤣
Awkward because she didn't get the easy Final Jeopardy answer right. FDIC? Are you kidding me?
Stephanie got all the $2000 clues wrong.
I remember this game!! 😂😂 I'm still confused how Stephanie got so far in the whole!
She was in the hole pretty deep and tried to quickly get out by going for all of the $2K questions but it didn’t work out for her. Sad!
@@masterdoge987 I know. She was pretty close on one of the 2k clues
@@masterdoge987 deep holes
Well Stephanie, you owe us $6,800 now GTFO...
Damn, how bad must it feel to know that you'd have done better by not saying anything.
I didn't even know the answer, and I guessed Social Security!
"Who are three people that have never been in my kitchen" would have been brilliant.
I remember this episode. I watched it when it first aired. Gee, I wonder who's going to win? :P
Was I watching Celebrity Jeopardy!?
During the final question, I would have just stared at the camera, not written anything...make as many people as uncomfortable as possible. o.o
Congratulations Kristin, you are the least worst contestant!
Shoulda just wrote "Turd Ferguson wins again".
$6800 in the hole. That's probably the all-time record for Jeopardy.
What's funny is in the video game is that if your the last one and everyone else has lost then you automatically win no final jeopardy answer. Its just boom winner game over. lol
If all three players finish with either no money or negative money in Double Jeopardy!, no Final Jeopardy was played.
That was heartless lol
Alex Trebek is so savage. I love it.
Because Stephanie and Brad are both on the negative side - Kristin is the only one going to Final Jeopardy. Kristin, you could win the game if you can handle this final Jeopardy category.
Inside Edition had a story of only 1 contestant Kristen Sausville played final jeopardy she lost $1600 with the wrong response FDIC down to $6800 it had a 2 day total of $31,601. The right response is Social Security, not the FDIC. The video on Inside Edition's KZhead channel has more than 136K views was uploaded in March 2015. RIP Alex Trebek.
People are saying “Why would you even bet any money?” Why wouldn’t you? Why wouldn’t you try to walk away with more money? She bet smart too, wanting to bring her score up to an even 10k
after taxes: only 2 grand.
Anytime all 3 contestants end in negative and no final jeopardy?
No
You can say that again.
There was no reason to bet any money, the game was over lol. She must be a gambler XD
Well, why deny yourself the chance at more cash? The dumbest thing would be to bet it all *and* get it wrong.
John Lee I just dont see the point in losing money (or potentially losing money)when you will be back "tomorrow" to play again and earn more. No need to be greedy :p
I know this would be a dumb idea, but if I was in her shoes, I would have written down something completely off track from the question.
I can't believe that lady answered "What is metaphorically?" That word is a variation on "metaphor," which was a part of the clue. If the correct response was "metaphorically," they wouldn't have used a variation on it as a part of the clue because that would have given away the right response. I swear, some of these contestants have no common sense. It's no wonder there have been television specials devoted solely to stupid answers on game shows.
What an idiot. Metaphorically? That was almost part of the clue
Off to "Celebrity Jeopardy" for those two.
I would have wagered $8399 and then deliberately gotten it wrong so I could be a $1 winner.
It was more painful to watch that lady accumulate $6800 in debt
If everyone has $0 or less, no Final Jeopardy is played.
He or she will not
WHAT makes that painful to watch ??
I just realized how this works, and doing so, noticed... WHY WOULD SHE BET MONEY IF SHE WAS GUARANTEED A WIN?!
Well, as I pointed out before, why deny yourself the chance at more cash? The only stupid thing would be to *bet it all*, and she was way too smart to do that.
Are you sure she would win if she finished with O? If I was to gamble, I would make sure I had a dollar left. Or bet zero and my answer would be, "Who are three people who have never been in my kitchen?"
she can always buy her a halfway decent used car
I would have gotten that last question correct. Give me money!
Wow, the one Jeopardy question that I actually know the answer to!
I don't understand why she bet 1600 in final jeopardy. I would've bet zero dollars because she had nobody to compete with in final jeopardy
