"2000 plus all of James' points" (look it up it's on KZhead) is a hilarious sequel.
Look at how confused James is after the question asked at 11:33 , even shaking his head after the answer is revealed. The question prompt indicates the element has the name of a Greek god in it. The answer being Plutonium. The problem is that Pluto is a Roman god, Hades being his Greek counterpart. There was an error in the question and it looks like James caught that error as well, this dude is on another level.
I thought the same thing so I looked it up. Turns out that later Greek myths began referring to the god of the underworld as Pluto before its revisionism into Roman mythology.
Haha just came down here to comment the same thing. I thought it must be Helium. You know, Helios? But they hit me with the Plutonium and my face scrunched up, then I saw his face looking the same way and knew that question was off XD
Alex Trebek was one of the greatest game show hosts of all time. May he forever be remembered.
It was probably from his knowledge of the Percy Jackson bookseries😂 (one of the greatest things ever created)!
I felt the same. Technically Pluto is a word of Greek origin and was later his name before being absorbed into Roman mythology, so it's right but also obscure and easy to mistake.
Imagine growing up, watching Jeopardy, dreaming of becoming a contestant, being highly intelligent, then you get chosen to be on the show and have to face James 😅
😂😂😂😂
I would ask to come back
Would just be my luck.
He plays it more aggressively than anyone I've ever seen. Just remarkable.
He changed the game. The Masters tournament and ToCs are completely different now after he broke the game.
@@cwolf208 I'm honestly a little suprised it took this long. It seems like more people would have decided that risking the max on final jeopardy is usually correct
@@MoonmerismJeopardy still just had the "family" vibe to it. This guy made it a super competitive game now😂
@@cwolf208 It was insane what he he did in that masters tournament. To win almost every game against that type of competition is absolutely insane. Even that first game he lost to Matt, they were tied at the end. Even Ken said he would lose to Jame if they played again. He said James is still getting better, which is insane.
Tell me something do the losing contestants get to keep what money they have after the last question ?
Dude combined smart gambling with incredible intellect and dominated. I enjoyed watching him during his run - the fact Trebek was able to witness such gameplay before he passed was awesome to witness too. You could tell that he was just mind blown at this young kid!
Yes, Trebek 🙏🏽😢🙏🏽
"smart gambling" now that's an oxymoron if I've ever heard one.
@@dtown902 He gambled when it has the probability to have the outcome he wanted. A 99% chance of getting a Ferrari at the price of $0.01 but you may get nothing is still a gamble, but it's a "smart gamble."
It hasn’t been the same since his passing. RIP legend
@@levychr YES, I agree with you! However, "who" could possibly fill Mr. Trebek's shoes? NOBODY can! And this is what we are missing. I have been watching Trebek for 40 plus years. I started while still in my School Years. I always looked forward to watching Trebek on Jeopardy. May Trebek R I P .
He's playing the game exactly how a gambler would, having no fear of losing it all if he's wrong.
Plot twist: He's never wrong.
He’s playing it a statistician not a gambler. He’s making calculated moves that give him the best odds of winning, not desperate prayers to luck
thats not how a professional gambler actually gambles though. ever.
He’s actually annoying af
Speed reading + High recall + He's likely trained the common categories. Then applying an optimal maths strategy to his play and bet size. Eg combing through the 1,000's first to try and build up a pot to bet for a double. The 60,013 bet placed him at the maximum bet size without risking his place and therefore opportunities for more money in subsequent games. Trained skill and great recall meets optimal play. The problemwith most players is they go on thinking a decent memory and some trivia skill is enough. You want to dominate this show, you'll need to practice for weeks on the broad topics the show typically covers.
It would be GREAT if all of James's appearances were on here, he is SO AWESOME!
there were a bunch of his (and other season 35) episodes on dailymotion, they got taken down, been trying to find a way to contact the user who uploaded them but there's no way and dailymotion isn't any help at all. Really want to find more season 35 episodes, I've seen all of James' games except for one (May 28, 2019), wish dailymotion would be of better help
Same with Ken’s!
I've never heard a "Good Luck" sound so much like "You may as well pack your shit up and leave now" before in my life 😆🤣
This video not only makes me realize why James won the Masters tournament and is one of the greatest jeopardy players in the shows history, but also that no one no matter how amazing of a host, will be able to replace the legendary Alex Trebek. May he rest in piece, and his legacy live on for eternity.
Yes, I believe he is resting in one piece
Just accept each host for what they bring to the table. Stop comparing!
I agree with you about James, but not about Alex. Well, not entirely anyway. Alex was indeed unique. His longevity, decency, and gentle humor can not be replaced by anyone since that person is not him. But Ken Jennings is a worthy successor.

This guy single handedly got me into trivia, and I assume a lot more people.
Ken's run did that for me
I remember watching James’ run with my mom, live. This guy has some unexplainable charisma. Not sure what it is, but I was rooting for him the entire time from the very first appearance.
I think the tribute to his grandma struck some emotion in Alex.
YES
“Named after a Greek god” PLUTOnium. The Roman god based on Hades. Bad question. You can see James’ face after that question where he knows it’s a dumb question as well hahaha 11:40
That's not quite true, but a commonly held mistake. Hades was indeed the older Greek name for the god of the underworld, but they (the Greeks) later began referring to him as Ploutōn (Πλούτων) BEFORE the Romans began referring to him as Pluto. So attributing Plutonium to the Greek god, Ploutōn, is in fact accurate.
@@crhodgkin that’s really interesting! Genuinely didn’t know that! I still think it’s a bit of a bait question but yeah I never would have guessed that the Latin Pluto came from Greek Plouton! Appreciate it!
I said plutonium because I knew it was second but yeah i was thrown for a bit there
I dated this girl that was extremely intelligent and she loved Jeopardy!! So i taped the show on a Monday and invited her over on a Friday so we could watch it together. All week i watched it and got all the answers to every question. When we watched it and i rattled off the answers, it attracted her to me x10!!! Needless to say, we've been happily married now for 7 years and it all started with Jeopardy, a plan, and a vcr!!!
did you ever end up telling her😂
If she loved it so much why did she not see that episode before you watched it with her?
wtf
He really was the perfect player to just win a ton of money. He always goes for the big money questions first to build a large sum of money, plus he constantly changes categories, which really makes it challenging for his opponents, who cannot just comfortably run through a category.
He changes categories to make sure he gets all the big bucks
“How does it feel to come in to a buzzsaw” 😂😂😂
James uses his intellect and strategies to perfection....love him!!!!
Same! He’s so undefeated!
And I’d kiss him right now but I rather not! 😂
it's so happily jarring to see Jeopardy without commercials
Knowing all the answers isn't enough. You have to push the button at the exact right moment over and over and over. He is brilliant at timing the button push.
yeah, you could see the women clicking for a lot of the answers; they knew them too but were just milliseconds too late -___-
James Holzhauer will always be a legend. The best player post-Ken
“Is your grandma still alive.” “No” (barely holds it back)
Nostalgic with Alex Trebek. Still love and remember his fondly.
Imagine you actually got lucky enough to get on Jeopardy as a contestant only to find out that this is the man you're going up against
Can we just appreciate the way James wrote his name? 😂
Yeah, noticed that. Like a tribute to Def Leppard!
I just love Jeopardy James, when he first appeared I had to be in front of the TV to watch him
This will remain as the only Holzhauer episode I can watch. 😭
Watching his 32 winning streak on Pluto TV since yesterday (again). He really was something
14:21 the other two were like "What the hell?"
I wondered how James didn't get the plutonium question. Seemded like a gimme to me, but then I realized the reason he didn't get it was because the prompt said "Bearing the name of a Greek god." Pluto is not Greek, rather he is Roman. It also seems like this is what he was thinking since he gives a sort of confused look at the end when Alex announces the answer. Just my two cents
You're right - Pluto is the name of the Roman god. However, Ploutōn (Πλούτων), was later used by the Greeks to refer to this same god BEFORE the Romans began using Pluto, so the question was actually accurate, and clever.
@@crhodgkin Oh that's interesting. I had no idea the Greeks also used Pluto. Guess the Romans didn't even change the name for that one
Alex is great about adapting his style of confirming correct answers to James's speedy play to let him continue unabated once he gets rolling. I can only imagine how frustrating it would have been for James to have to play with Mayim Bialik's awkward delays and pauses after every correct answer.
Wow, truly a cunning observation: "People who do a job for 40 years straight are better at it than people who have done it for less than two years" 👍
@@NoTengoIdeaGuey You're right - Ken has been doing it for approximately the same amount of time and is just as bad... oh, wait, no he's not... hmmmm 🤔 🤦♂️😂
@@nowayjose596 To be fair, Ken would likely have an instinctive sense of what's best for the contestant.
I wish it were Ken Jennings hosting permanently. Not fond of Bialik's style at all.
Can’t understand when Mayim reads the question. Very confusing annunciation.
Even fully confident with his final jeopardy answer, he still only wagers enough for him to come out on top if we’re to miraculously lose. The other contestants can only reach 10k, while he’d be left with 11k if he were to get the answer wrong, extremely calculative and bold, phenomenal player!
He was so much fun to watch, what a streak.
James breaking a lot of records. Now he's Masters champ 🏆
I did like that most of his wagers for FJ were linked to his family in some way. And that his goal was to get a specific number which was his daughter's birthday
11:36 Isn't Pluto a Roman god instead of a Greek god? I'm sure that's why James didn't buzz in.
No Greek
@@holdencawffle626 no, Pluto is the Roman version of the Greek god, Hades. I noticed it was wrong as well.
yeah you can see him shake his head a bit when Alex says "Plutonium" as it doesnt make sense
Yes, Pluto is the Roman god. However, Ploutōn (Πλούτων) was the later name used by the Greeks before the Roman "Pluto" was used, so assuming that Plutonium was named after Ploutōn, "Greek god" is actually correct.
Most underrated part of his game is how fast he's on the buzzer
Agreed! Their's no lapse in his brains' synapses. It's instantaneous access to information. I bet he gets annoyed with people quickly. There's always a downside to that level of genius.
Its literally jaw dropping how on point this guy is kudos to him and doing it for granny.
Jeopardy hosted by the late alex trebek from 1984-2020
Insane he didn't even get the first Daily Double and ends up with 131k
I love how the ladies are rapidly trying to click the button, and James is being very chill about it. They're trying too hard to buzz in.
18:18 This was the biggest successful Final Jeopardy of all time!
James is one of my three all time favorites! Ken is another. Mattea Roach is the third.
I used to ALWAYS watch Jeopardy with my parents with Alex Trebeck as the host when a new episode came out and James was always me and my dad's favorite contestant. It really is say that Alex passed away, but the time that he was with us on this amazing show was more then enough to keep his legacy alive forever. Either way, this show will always have a special place in my heart, especially as i listen to it as background sound while playing Minecraft.
I love how he smiles like that
I think Alex enjoyed that as much as James. So good. Cheers from Montreal. (Alex actually hosted some quiz shows in French for Radio Canada in the late 60s.) so missed such a great guy in every way. RIP Alex. A fellow Canadian Geographic fan.
James came to win!!! And gave zero fs if the others didn't buzz in 1st 😅. He was humble ❤
casually winning 4 times someones salary for 30 min of trivia, gg
WHAT A BEAST. DID IT ALL OFF THE STRENGTH
i noticed that the reason james is confused at 11:33 is because pluto is a roman god, not a greek god. crazy how that was never caught before the question aired
James is by far my favorite player in Jeopardy history ❣️
Undoubtedly the “Michael Jordan” of Jeopardy. Hands down he’s simply THE BEST !!!
My all time favorite player
James is incredible.
This guy is just a master, no wonder the Chase hired him
Now his grandma is very proud now. ❤
You have to wonder when the cap was 5 consecutive wins, how many players could have won many more. Ironically they removed the 5 game cap right before Ken Jennings started.
Alex trebek absolutely killed that pronunciation of “Ferrum”
i feel so bad for everyone who had to play james. they got to be on a television game show and had no chance of winning
More James episodes please!!!
Did anyone not notice the SNL references during the intro "Potpourrie" "Potent Potables"
James Holzhauer beat the single day record set by James Holzhauer who in turn beat the record set by James Holzhauer and is among many other single day Jeopardy greats such as James Holzhauer, James Holzhauer, James Holzhauer, James Holzhauer, and James Holzhauer.
If Ken Jennings is Michael Jordan, Holzhauer is like Bo Jackson -- the stats aren't as good, but in the moment what the guy was doing on a nightly basis was completely mindboggling
More like Shaq I'd say. Easily the most dominant at his peak, but doesn;t have the longevity/consistency. Although I have a theory that Jeopardy deliberately made the questions so easy in his final round so that anyone that was quicker on the draw than him would always get the right answer. Which is exactly what happened.
I’d say he’s Michael jordan, while Jennings is Lebron James. He’s easily the better jeopardy player, and really to me it’s not close, but Jennings has the longevity and consistency that puts him in that conversation
@@TransparentEclipse as an nba fan I can confirm that’s a perfect comparison
Made me tear up at the end 😢
@0:58, Alex Trebek, you left us Jeopardy! fans too soon.
How does a person obtain and remember all of this knowledge?
What fun to watch an expert play the game. The sponsors must love him.
Imagine if Alex said “His name wasn’t Atticus Finch this is for you Granny heart. James, your answer is incorrect.”
I do believe they changed the rules after James' shoutouts. Now that response would be ruled incorrect. Hasn't stopped James from his shoutouts and witty banter though as we saw during the Masters tournament.
this makes James one of two notable champions to actually end up having a rule chanted. The other champion being arthur chu, whose strategy of getting a co champion led to tiebreakers being implemented instead.
@@ryansmith1044well when Victoria Groce returned to Jeopardy for the invitational tournament, she wrote “Hi Nora” after the question mark of her final responses. I think you’re still allowed to do it but you have to do it the right way where it’s not part of your answer whether that’s after the question mark or in parentheses or both.
James is a BEAST! 💪🏻💪🏻
The one where they said plutonium was named after one of the Greek gods was wrong. James didn’t get it right because it is named after a Roman god not a Greek god. Pluto is a Roman god. His Greek counterpart is Hades. He was confused on the wording because it was wrong
Arguably the second greatest player to ever play the game behind Jennings.
James is always my favorite Jeopardy player!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Its one thing to be smart. Its another thing to be incredibly sharp and quick on your feet. You can't teach that.
Superb.
I noticed that there was a clue with Plutonium in the Double Jeopardy round. That is a Roman God, not a Greek God.
J! seems to be way too lenient in the Greek or Roman god area. It just happened this last week when Eros and Cupid were considered the same.
@@cherylcampbell9369 in that clue, the only info given to specify Greek or Roman was the naming of Psyche, which can be either Greek or Roman. They ruled the contestant incorrect for giving one of the answers but then later gave credit since it could have been either Eros or Cupid. He should protest and be brought back since the next clue chosen (directly under the psyche clue) was a daily double that he didn’t get to play. He ended the round in a close 2nd and lost on final jeopardy.
Cupid and Psyche is a Roman myth.
yep. Pluto is Roman, Hades is the Greek near- equivalent.
Yes. But the Greeks later began referring to Hades as Ploutōn (Πλούτων), before the Romans were using Pluto. So if they meant that Plutonium was named after the Greek god Ploutōn, they'd be correct (this is unclear, I think).
0:47 R.I.P. Alex Trebek
This man is amazing.
interesting how he went through all the $1000 questions first to maximize his score should he get the double jeopardy
James Holzhauer is the man!
This is jeopardy 😊
James makes me feel stupid lmao there’s answers I should know and he comes up with the answers and is done answering it before I have the time to think what the answer is.
If anyone hasn't listed to the Planet Money podcast where they first discuss James and this incredible run, you gotta do it. Terrific programming.

Im from the uk where hes one of the chasers such a smart bloke , i gave up going on game shows after 25 years of being on shows such as wheel of fortune, weakest link , catchphrase , price is right , in 2003 i went on a show called Saturday night takeaway where you have a chance to win all the ads such as holidays , cars, cash , the killer question decides if you walk away with everything youre called out of the audience to answer as many questions as possible in 60 seconds , i answered 5 but i went for the killer question because normally on previous shows it wouldn't be too difficuilt like one week it was who is the tallest penelope cruz or Tom cruz . Its a live show with millions watching so its a bit nerve racking but i coped , the killer Question for me was a killer , they asked me where Nicole Kidman was born , was she born in Australia or Hawaii. The question threw me i had a mental block ? Everything i had ever read in newspaper or magazine articles always used the term ozzy Nikole and to make it more confusing one of the holidays on the board was to hawaai so i looked to the Gods and said outloud please God let me be right , i answered Australia and Boom the lights went up and the awful hosts smiled and said sorry its the wrong answer , i was left alone in the wings not even offerred any consolling not even a room for the night in london , i crashed my car that night and i gave up gameshows .
i love jeoperdy

ALEX TREBEK 1940_2020 REST IN PEACE 💔 ☹️
One of the questions was actually incorrect and he still managed to pull this off. Pluto is a roman version of the greek god hades, so that would explain james's face after the answer plutonium.
oh my, that was when Jeopardy was fun and classy and smart and, well, Alex. Miss him so. LOVE JAMES and it's completely understandable why Jennings won't take the challenge again.
