  • This is a beautiful trailer and design. Allot of people are complaining about the cost and mentioning how much more you can buy at the price, but they are missing the point that this is rugged overland off road rated. Take a large coachman down a logging road and see what is left of it when you get there. This is a quality product.

    • The only other types of trailers available in this configuration are all made in Australia and I've seen the prices. They're just as steep and I'm talking in US dollars.

    • Take a Coachman trailer down a normal road and it will fall apart. I can vouch for that had a Concord 300TS the front cap completely separated from the coach body. A total piece of junk...

      @colingoldthorpe5918@colingoldthorpe59184 жыл бұрын
    • @@largol33t1 I guess I don't know what you mean by "configuration," but there are plenty of American outfits making these overland trailers in all price ranges. Word doesn't necessarily spread very fast for the best of them, because they're so busy they never have to advertise. Word gets around and people line up. It's pretty much factory-direct, and you can tell 'em what you want or don't want and they'll make them to order, with all manner of special options, as long as you're clear about what you want. I'm an old-timer, with plenty of gear that's been well-maintained, is in good working order, and I know all its in's and out's. There's a zen to my setup, and it's one of the pleasures of being out there. I already have my camp kitchen and know how to whip something up in a hurry. I don't need a slide-out 2-burner stove. I have a 2-burner stove and the camp table it goes on is no hardship to set up. I don't need a sink. I have my basins. I want the comfort of just being able to stop and hop in bed, plus extra cargo. I don't want any of that stuff, but I DO crave the onboard water and on-demand hot water. It really does make life easier when you don't have to heat water or wait for the sun to heat it. The features I DO want built in are all going to be tucked away, leaving maximum possible cargo compartment when it's all emptied out. You lose that when you insist on a built-in galley. I might want to chuck firewood in there. I might want to load a motorcycle in there in an emergency. I might want to help a friend move! LOL! The possibilities are endless! If money's an object, you can have a basic off-road teardrop that'll pretty much go anywhere your 4x4 can go, for around $5,000 U.S. I think Hiker Trailer is known for well-built starter models for cheap. Overkill Trailers in Bend, Oregon, USA make a killer squaredrop with a slide-out. Fully insulated, 4-season. Colorado Teardrop in Boulder, Colorado, USA is another cool company. Aerospace engineers designed the frame and chassis. But there're a million of these companies all over the place, many with solid reputations.

  • That Expedition camper set up is exactly what I would go for if it was available in Australia. The increased departure angle and the dropdown cook top is a great solution. Fridge is in a great position. Less of the shiny bits is good. Nice job with these.. 👍🇦🇺

  • I really like the outside kitchen function of the Expedition model. I bed it wouldn't be too difficult to have additional flip-up (or down) shelving on the back wall of the pocket that the stove unit tips out of. A good place to toss a few small totes of dishes, pots/pans or food items that may stow away somewhere else in the trailer.

    @insaynbcr@insaynbcr4 жыл бұрын
    • Outside kitchen? In winter? actually at anytime is nonsense. Too much work, running around, juggling pans??? I do that at home, I'm sure not doing that outside at 32 degrees or even 80. As a woman I'm all too familiar with cooking cleaning while the men sit outside to "check on the fire". ya right.

    • @@roxanngordon8145 Men don't worry about pots and pans juggling around. Being outside is the point of this kind of camping rig. Cooking a good camp meal in a very scenic off grid location is the motivation. It's not your thing and that's respectable. Each to their own.

    • Most of the homemade ones are made with overkill material like heavy 3/4 inches plywood and oversized overweight framing you endup with a teardrop that's the same pull weight as a 24 footer factory made ! I've seen a few gifted carpenter built some great ones tough like a covered boat frame to minimize weight and maximize structural integrity ! If your not using a proven plan you have to start from scratch, even more if you want a build in a kitchenette it's a very long tedious and time consuming process ! Good luck ! for me it's the ones who are made like a plane all aluminium are the best long lasting for ever can be pass on to your kids later like heirloom ! If your a welder equipped to work with aluminium that's great !

      @1badpete999@1badpete9994 жыл бұрын
    • @@1badpete999 Yeah, I've really been putting a lot of thought and research into this and I think you're right. I've been checking into buying a plain and simple aluminum frame platform trailer to start my project and I would already be over 2k just to get started right! I would like to go with fiberglass but I would still need some type of framework and I know that welding aluminum can be a nightmare if you don't have lots of experience. Then you have to consider all of the wiring systems (12v, AC, solar, lights, pumps, charging systems, controllers etc). And no matter how well thought out my plans are, I'm still going to cut corners because I get stuck on something or I'm just going to make a few mistakes. I think I'm much better off paying an extra 6k - 9k and saving about 500 hours of labor. Also, the factory made camper/trailer will maintain a much higher resale value if I ever decide to sell.

  • I’m doing some research on campers to live in all year round what is the insulation value and are the water tanks inside the insulation envelop of the trailer to prevent freezing. I live in western N.Y. I’ve seen a couple others that open to the galley on the back my only complaint is winter cooking would be pretty cold. But that can be worked on when the issue comes up.

    @S_man89@S_man894 жыл бұрын
    • Great questions, I know that the insulation is a rigid foam but its value I don't know. I've emailed the company and I'll let you know. The water tanks I don't believe is insulation to withstand sub temperatures but I bet you could custom order that modification as well as the insulation upgrade. I'm sure you could put a annex around the galley to keep the snow and rain out and even run a Mr Heater if it was wicked cold.

      @WADZUP@WADZUP4 жыл бұрын

I promise you that no trailer, camper or otherwise will have a very long service life on any 4x4 trail. Off roading with a camper is like these high end RVs with the slides full kitchens etc. They just scream "Look at me I'm another penny millionaire whole sold my soul to the banker.". And before you call me out,. Just realize that 3/4 of new car loans are sub- prime.

I also dont think it would hold up to the rigors of off road travel very well. These trailers are aimed at a specific lifestyle. If you listen to Lehtos law on YT you will learn of the huge number of defects in RVs and trailers. He reccomends as a lawyer who makes his practice on auto law and lemon laws to NEVER BUY AN RV. I'd take a solid aluminum and steel trailer any day of the week over a hastily slapped together soon to be leaky trailer.
