Naomi Osaka is the women’s singles defending champion and will be aiming to claim the title for the third time in four years. Meanwhile, No. 1 seed Novak Djokovic looks to complete the calendar Grand Slam after winning the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon already this year. Should the Serbian lift the title here for the fifth time, he will also overtake Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal to become the first-ever man to win 21 Grand Slam singles titles. With full capacity crowds back again, it’s time for the greatest return!

A qualifier winning would be a story in itself. An 18yr old in just their 2nd major tournament winning would be a story in itself. A player winning without dropping a set would be a story in itself. A British woman winning a major tournament would be a story in itself. For all four stories to collide simultaneously is just insane!!!

To be honest, Emma's groundstrokes are some of the hardest in women's game that I have seen. I can easily see her winning a number of majors. Congrats to both though. Lylah is also an amazing player. We may see another final featuring these two again.
From the 1st round to the final, I watched every minute, Emma was totally flawless, totally ruthless and totally grounded. What a absolute star 🌟 so thoroughly deserved 👏👏👏👏
Emma handles power players (big hitters) way better than Leylah. And there are quite some in the tour: Sabalenka, Sakkari, Osaka, Ons, Yastremska, Giorgi, Jenny Bradi, and last but not least, Serena.
Emma's biggest weakness was her confidence as she showed when she went down vs Bencic. Once she got going, she was hitting with power and precision. I thought she just wasn't fazed going against a peer and Leylah playing someone who she should have been better than made her worried. Excellent tournament for both girls.

One of the things that I really like about Emma’s game - and I mean REALLY like - is that on her forehand she doesn’t lay her wrist back like so many of the women players, but rather gets the wrist to snap into contact just like the men do. Aside from obvious natural ability and loads of hard work she has obviously been really well coached.

Yes I noticed that too. She does not have the usual WTA forehand.
@@maddie9789 well since the majority of women players don’t hit their forehand like the men do it is noteworthy to identify a female player who is able to do that. Leylah didn't handle herself that well to be fair. She threw a tantrum when Raducanu was having a medical timeout for bleeding. Raducanu has a strong serve, powerful forehand/backhand, court coverage, and mental strength of a champion. To hit an ace on match point in a U.S. Open final at 18 years old shows no moment is too big for her. Leylah also has a bright future ahead as she will become even stronger once she improves her serve a bit. It was an entertaining match to watch since both of them were blasting the ball off both sides. The new era of women's tennis has announced itself.
If Emma manages to add like 5 miles per hour to her serve she genuinely could be elite … her serve is well placed but I think it needs to be slightly faster (of course she can play the points themselves pretty well but relying on having to place the serve correctly puts more pressure on her serves and points in general than ideal ) … if she develops a slightly faster serve she could be an all time great
@@landonlowe4029 i think that comes with age as her body develops and get bigger more developed muscles later on. You have barely stopped growing at 18. She's gonna be a force to be reckoned with
@@clintstechtips6571 ironically though having a slightly slower serve compared to the top players on tour probably forced her to improve her other shots hence the consistency especially with her backhand🤯
@@landonlowe4029 she has great first serve . But what's even more impressive is her breaking serve stats. That's how games are won anyway.
@@clintstechtips6571 not too much muscle though otherwise she'll end up looking like Serena!🤣
Radacanu showed poise, consistency, great defense, ground strokes, and serving throughout the tournament. Her game didn't seem to show any significant weaknesses. That's part of why she managed to not drop a single set in 10 straight matches. But to my mind the single most impressive thing may be the way she plays her opponents' second serves. She's incredibly aggressive - coming inside the baseline, taking the ball early, and hitting it hard. She got a lot of outright winners on her 2nd serve returns. There were stats published that the average of all the players in the US Open Women's Singles this year, was to return 47% of second serves from inside the baseline. Raducanu hit 93% of her 2nd serve returns from inside the baseline. That relentless pressure is a big weapon. After getting a couple 2nd serves coming back for outright winners, opponents start to feel anxious. They try to put more speed on their 2nd serve and their double-fault percentage goes up. They start worrying about needing to make sure they put their 1st serve in and that tension makes their 1st serve percentage drop. Not everyone can be that aggressive on return of serve. Coming in that close, and taking the ball that early requires reading the opponent well, anticipating well, reacting quickly, and having impeccable timing on your contact point. That relentless 2nd serve pressure is a weapon that I expect will serve Raducanu well throughout her career.
It was an incredible match. Two different styles of play were evident. Such maturity and poise in court play and then in conversation. This has a great promise for a long term rivalry. A rivalry which we should all look forward to.
Emma Raducanu had the veins of Novak djokovic today, beating the crowd down to the ground
Why was the crowd against her?
No two different things. She was clearly injured. She faked nothing. Not like Djoker.
@@JT-oh6nm she didn’t call it, read the rules?
@@hanswurst7817 I reckon it's because Fernandez is from Canada (which is much closer to New York), and because Fernandez is the more emotive and engaging player compared with the calmer Raducanu
@@crazycatpetera1404 I’m not hating on anyone 😐
Well done Emma! Fantastic achievement 🏆 The UK salutes you 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
It was well deserved! I was cheering for Leylah, but honestly, the better player won today. 👏
Some Romanians salute Emma as well 🇷🇴🇷🇴🇷🇴🇷🇴
i had more interest in tennis these last 2 weeks in years because of these young women!
That sounded very wrong
Congrats to Emma and hats off to both of them - outstanding Tennis. Hope to see much more of both of them playing together in the future.
British. Quallifier. Number150 in the WTA ranking. Champion without losing a set. She's writing the history of Grand Slam. Now only Djokovic can beat her.
Sorry, Emma has stolen this tournament. Nothing like what shes done has ever happened before and may never happen again.
Absolutely insane, mind blowing and utterly amazing. Historic achievement never done before in the entire history of the game. Emma is a star.
It's unbelievable.
Well, she isn’t the youngest player or anything to win a major. Others in her age had already won majors. But it’s a new thing that someone does it as a „nobody“ ranked 150, that’s true
@@hanswurst7817 she is the first qualifier (men’s or women’s) to reach a grand slam final, let alone win it
@@hanswurst7817 Being the youngest isn't her historic achievement, being a qualifier and winning is historic. Played 10 Matches I believe, won them all, won every set she played. Players can win it being the youngest, then someone else can come along and win a grand slam that's even younger, but what she's done is history that can't be taken away from her. If someone ever does it again , we can say it's already been done. You can never, ever take that accomplishment from Emma Raducanu.
@@yasdrums yeah I know, that’s what I was suggesting when I said she was ranked 150
Emma Raducanu is the best tennis player I've ever seen. Period. She has the physical AND the mental ability to take on anything, and I truly hope she goes on to rule the game for at least the next decade...
This doesn’t age well
Lol
Congratulations Emma, what a massive achievement, you’ve done yourself & Great Britain proud!!
Literally unprecedented. We’ve heard that word way too much over the last 18 months, but man, what she’s done is utter madness. Congratulations Emma, barely believable what she’s achieved here.
One Unique thing on Emma game is that she doesn't wait for own serve to win a game. It is the main reason she is able to win all the matches in straight set. I have not seen any players who has that attitude including gentlemen.🔥
"Gentlemen"'s attitude now is to fold in front of Djokovic.
Cuz she is training with men. Simple logic, u wanna defeat woman at least be a same level with MEN.
maybe cos women's serves are a fraction as powerful? or will I get picked up by the pc police
She is already one of the best returners in the women's game, if not the best. And she can keep improving for the next 5-10 years, I hope.
Yes, she has a very accurate serve attack !! That is why every opponent lost their serve game…
She was cool, calm and collected all throughout, even with a majority audience cheering her opponent on. And she’s only 18! People of all ages should take note, that’s how you become a WINNER 🔥🔥
Set point still giving me chills.
From being a qualifier to an unqualified success. Simply wow
Qualified success d.h
20 set winning streak is really impressive.
At this rate, just imagine Konta and Raducanu at Davis Cup! The UK is so strong here
Leyla's speech after losing was the classiest thing I've heard in a long time. Both ladies are absolute superstars and a credit to their parents. In sport there has to be a winner and a runner up. There were no losers today, just champions.
It might have been if she had apologised for her behaviour during the medical timeout. But as she didn't it was classless.
By "no" losers, did you mean one loser? Or did you forget your claim about champions and runners up one sentence prior?
Could I just point out to all the people saying “yeah but leyla did all the hard work beating the seeds to get to the final”, Emma played a week’s more tennis than Leyla from the qualifiers, has beaten Leyla before when they met and she dumped out the Olympic champion and an in-form seed on her way to beating Leyla in straight sets here. This is not an accident. The best player won the tournament. And she did it in the toughest way possible in the most dominant fashion imaginable. It’s AMAZING and all you sad acts want to do is talk it down. Shake your heads.
The nicest superstar in the making. wish her all the best. Please carry on being humble and that enigmatic smile. Bless you girl!!!!
emma got that born to be champion aura .. i think we witnessed the start of something special 💫
Hopefully she won't lose her head like Osaka Naomi because of marketing and money. It's hard to keep a clear head these days. 😀👍 I wouldn't for sure. 😁👍😅
@@dhanyrafael Serena lost head and our respect long ago. She should apologise to Ramos, retire asap and try and retain some dignity.
@@dhanyrafael Serena's over-inflated ego ruined Naomi's day and tried to ruin Ramos' career as well. PS How on earth do think you know that Namomi has been affected by money etc?
Well I’m not a massive tennis fan - but I think we have witnessed the first major win from someone who will go down in history as one of the best tennis players of our generation. She will be the tiger woods of tennis.

Excellent talent really. Hopefully, injuries wont derail her career like it did some before her. Quite special to watch those two play.

Congrats. Thanx to both of u for the awesome games u played.
What odd highlights. One of the best sets of tennis I've ever watched and only 2 points were shown.
Emma raducano won 10 matches including 3 rounds of quali without dropping a set and didnt play a single tie breaker. 20 straight sets won. Amazing!!! So proud of you!!! U made history!!!!

The clean ball hitting of Raducanu reminds me of the way Andre Agassi played, taking the ball on the rise and hitting clean winners from the base line.
The US open is always full of surprises. Osaka, andresscu and radacanu. Its the championship of new talent.
Much love from China and all from chinese! Emma, your mandarin is perfect just like your USA open play. Now I'm going follow you and the tour. Congrats also to Leylah too. Going root for you both!

I am so excited as a tennis fan. The women's game has some incredibly likeable players at the moment and some great champions. Add these two kids into it and it's going to get very spicy. Lovely players like Halep and Kvitova are now considered the wise old guard and it will be fascinating seeing these kids come up against their idols. Such an exciting time if you are a fan of the WTA.
The beautiful points, the fighting spirit, the humility and star power of them both...never saw anything like it. It´s so exciting and cool for tennis!
Fernández showed no humility. 🙄
John McEnroe in July "Allow her to take some deep breaths and maybe get some wild-cards. She’ll probably get one for the Australian Open but I’m not sure about the US Open.” Oh my.
Can’t wait to hear him commentate on a Raducanu match at next years Wimbledon! I hope the BBC give him some humble pie to eat.
Great, these 2 teenagers are amazing. Emma writes a history in WTA. CONGRATULATIONS
We have Just witnessed something that will go down in history, a qualifier winning a major , I am glad I am around to see it because it probably won't happen in my lifetime again. 2 great girls and a great match.
Both girls deserved victory, feeling for Leyla Fernandez but Emma was majestic today,,congrats to both
Exactly.. I understand Emma won..she earned that win..but at least give Leyla credit..she played a superb game as well..👏🏾👏🏾
I always find that sentiment false and rather silly. A match can only be won by one person and the winner is the one who deserves it. The loser was the loser and by the way she was well beaten. A 6-4 4-6 7-5 would be a close match a 6-4 6-3 is not.
Tonight we saw the impossible become possible, and it'll be the only time in our lives that we'll ever see an 18 year-old kid win 10 straight matches to win a Grand Slam trophy without dropping a set. If that weren't enough, she not only took on, and beat, a wonderful competitor in the form of Leylah Fernandez, but also a New York crowd that were firmly behind her opponent. To come out on top in those circumstances takes immense courage, spirit and self-belief. Extraordinary stuff. We're waiting for you to come home, Emma, so that our country can show you how proud we are. What an inspiration you are to young people, what a fine tennis player you're developing into, and what a wonderful, radiant smile you've got....just don't ever change. Lots of love from England.
