I’m just waiting for new 390 adv. No matter how good RE is but I prefer the sharp and sporty look and performance and honestly I have some trust issues with RE.
The new 390 will take a while to happen.
@@powerdriftofficialOne year
I have adv 390-2021 model had minor issues like oil leaking, rattling, service issues etc. which gave me little bit of trouble...nothing serious. Also have bullet 500std. 2017 model...rock solid, never gave any issue. my experience is bit different.
The new 390 engine is a Noisy
It's ok , go for the looks
Seriously??? Nobody's gonna talk about how amazingly the videos have shot and edited? This definitely deserves some great appreciation!! 🫰🏻❤️✨ Kudos to the team of shooting, executing and editing! Love it ❤️
Thanks a bunch WanderVroom! Hope you have subscribed to our channel
got my Himalayan 450 10 days back. Been riding it on highway, its just feels different and comfy. Awesome balance and easy handling. It doesnt feel like you need to get used to it. Even though its new, I feel like its just easy
Thanks for sharing
I own the 390 Adventure, so I will say this. I would choose my bike everytime at the start of any tour, but like the Versus 650, 400 km into a trip or when you're returning home from your adventure, you'll wish you had the Himalyan. Enthusiasm will easily ignore all the problems with the KTM, which is more exciting as a bike, but you will envy the Himalyan when you're tired. In my opinion, it is worth making a video on how much it takes to deal with the issues of the KTM, since rear adjustable suspension is an accessory, and you can get foam grips which really take care of vibrations
Ah haa. You still haven’t mentioned what makes the ride miserable. Suspension, comfort?
I own the 2022 390 Adv and recently upgraded both front and rear suspension with Fully Adjustable suspension from SW variant and did couple of on road , off road ride, the experience and comfort level has been up by 100% comparing with the stock one and with the right settings. A must have upgrade to make your existing bike a comfortable long touring bike and even a better off roader.
@@anuragsaha9994how much did it come for and does it void warranty? Also is it only possible to change the rear one?
So you are in terms of sitting and comfort Himalayan is good
@@anuragsaha9994 How much is the front and rear suspension for, individually? Can we install it officially, i.e. without breaking the warranty?
As a 390 owner for the past two years, I need to say that the bike came with its share of minor niggles (Plastic part rattles and bashplate nuts coming loose) which I had rectified with some DIY bushings and locktite. The headlight was spread out too much with not much focus so added aux lights. I tested the Himalayan out of curiosity for a friend. The bike looked promising but we were met with a slew of disappointments starting with the coneset out of spec, laggy throttle response, the funny angle of the kick stand and a rear seat that was tilted rearwards which made the pillion sit tucked. The one we test rode had a very rattly engine with what seemed like a bad tappet noise. The main redeeming feature what we all loved was the suspension tuning which like Varun said was "world class". For a bike under development since 2016 ( what I heard and read), many things feel like an afterthought or incomplete. For the KTM, the stock front suspension is nicely tuned but the rear is stiff compared to its competitors. On TeamBHP there was a thread regarding rebound adjustable rear suspension with a "soft to hard" setting which seemed to work really well in adressing the stiffness issue so maybe I'll try that. But as of now it is not a deal breaker for me. The quick shifter takes some getting used to for it to work the way you want. The Adv 390 is capable of keeping up with the RCs on twisties if you have the skills and confidence and once the roads get uneven or in bad weather the bike out performs the competition in terms of pace and predictability and the confidence to get out of sticky situations. The inherent balance and communication which the chassis provides is priceless. The Himalayan in all honesty feels like a much more laid back proposal, maybe for the rider who wants to take it easy on long tours. The ADV 390 is more of an upright sports bike with longer suspension travel. If only RE got the fundamentals dialed in and the mechanical issues resolved from the get go. I feel like the bike has potential but it hasn't gotten the complete attention it deserved during development.
Incredible comment. Thanks for writing in. Also sad to read that you got a not-so-good test Himmy. Its much more than that for sure. BTW, are you looking forward to the new ADV? 😄
@@powerdriftofficial Truth be told, I wish for the new engine, switchgear and quickshifter but after seeing the shots of the test mule, I'm not sure I prefer the shift to the all-out adventure geometry and styling. It looks more grown up and adult, something you don't associate with the mad bikes KTMs usually are. I'm sure it'll find the market here but feels like a step away from the brand ethos.
you probably were sold a duplicate bike, ha ha ha ha, 390 has no such issues
Your review of Himmy is spot on. I was too disappointed after TD. Your observations on Engine are correct. Also I found weight distribution was out of place. After Himmy TD, I was wondering why reviewers are going gaa gaa over this bike which feels WIP.
@@yudhistirs ha ha ha ha I can only comment based on my experience. Also "duplicate bike"? Care to explain?

I've ordered a Hanle Black Tubeless but uk deliveries are not here until april/may so that is my choice. I worked in Infosys Pune, building near Whipro site. Should I get the Himmy 450 in the 3rd quarter this year or I should be waiting for the new ADV 390 to come and then decide ? ( Was determined to buy the Adv 390 for a long time but the new Himmy somehow is very appealing )
If you are waiting, might as well wait for the new Katoom
Do check the waiting period for the Himalayan. It might get pushed to the fourth quarter.
I am leaning towards the 390x, would it be the right time to buy as the newer 390adv comes this might lead to spares issues as i tend to keep my bikes for atleast a decade.
The new one is being tested already. If you can make patience your ally, the upcoming motorcycle should be worth it

Good decision bro at that price those are featureless junk. 450, SM 650 and SG 650 are only valuables of RE all others to me are nonsense or overpriced products
@@being_radical_at_times well, if you feel like performance is the only thing you want then yes.

Thinking of upgrading from fzs Fi to an adventure tourer. I'm 6ft tall. Purpose is good highway comfort for rider and pillion both. Most of the times it will be highway cruising and occasional offroad. Please suggest which one should I go for.
Please take a test spin! With your height, you should fine the Himmy just fine. There's a new KTM on its way so we aren't sure if we should recommend this to you right away.
Bought 390 ADV - Jan 2024 - Highway and tarmac (hills) tourer - zero off roading. Right choice? What say sir?
You already bought it! You tell us 😄
@@powerdriftofficial sold 390 duke Gen 2 & bought Adv 390. Could not stand the looks of gen 3 duke 390. Rode to Ooty and back - 370 kms - for my level - i am happy with cornering and performance - Run in period. feel happy and content. But any way to increase front brake bite? replace break pads? what type?
Being an Interceptor 650 & then ADV390 owner always hated the 411 because of its issues The new 450 Himalayan has given me a different experience The best suspension setup period in a ADV of its class and segment Power is there when you need it and all the way Only gripe is will RE ensure service levels as good as #Bigwing or #KTM does
Yeah, the suspension is too too good! KTM will also be relatively cheaper to maintain.
There are some vibration issues pointed out by reviewers of himalayan which is varying from model to model so just wait for some long term reviews before purchasing one. Some are suggesting that nvh are bothersome above 100kmph which is really disappointing, but we have to give benefit of doubt to re as this there first liquid cooled engine. Hope so it will improve with batch to batch.
Yeah. Slightly different experience from different motorcyclists
KTM 390 Adv is my choice. I own a Classic 350 and the service experience and parts cost for its quality is way too much. Still don't have the first hand experience with KTMs, but would love to have one as I like a more sportier ride and the preference of on-road tourer goes with my choice selection.
The KTM service experience will be very affordable.
Eagerly waiting for your review of hero mavrick, and any news on Honda's upcoming scrambler and ADV based on cb350.
We are getting to ride the Mavrick real soon
When are you guys comparing TVS Raider and Hero Xtreme 125R? Waiting for it.
That’s lined up for this month!
It's been a fantastic week with the new Himalayan. Completely enjoying the journey.
Glad you enjoy it!
Which one has more dependency on electronics and sensors?? Which one is better compare to easily getting service stations/parts all over india? Break down can happen any place any time.
If a vehicle gets electronics, it will depend on it when things try to go wrong. Royal Enfield and KTM have a ton of showrooms across the country but KTM will be cheaper for spares and service
At a touring speed of 100-110, where vibrations are a big problem on Himalayan as per most reviewer's observations, how is it compared to the 390 ADV? I know neither is great, but which one is better? Also, can we install the adjustable suspension on 390X, officially? If yes, how close does it get to the himalayan's?
It will get close but not to the level of the Himalayan. Both the motorcycles are vibey but the Himmy is better at lower speeds.
I asked for this video when PD released himalayan vs. scrambler 400... Now I have this video :-) But we also have the new adv390 prototype and the solid nx500❤
Checked! ✅ The NX is too expensive and cannot be compared with these motorcycles
Nice and fair comparison. Two of the best beginner Adv’s!
Glad you enjoyed it!
How about the NX500? Does it fall in this category considering its a twin cylinder and double the price? I currently ride the CBR 250R and want to upgrade to an adventure tourer...but having ridden a Honda I don't feel like switching to another brand. Keeping the price aside, can you do a fair comparison between these bikes?
We cannot take price out of the equation.
Why wouldnt you use the SW version of the 390 Adv... Suspension are a lot better in that
Couldn’t get our hands on the media unit. A friend was kind enough to lend his motorcycle.
@@powerdriftofficial KTM doesn't offer bikes even for test rides
@@powerdriftofficialyou could have asked us, i would have given my windblade happily for this comparo, btw ADV still holds the crown of best VFM adventure motorcycle in India.
@@riderhunt dont think its actually about KTM not offering the bikes... Might be about the SW media bikes just not being available, every media influencer wants the bike right right to compare it to something or the other. I own a 2022 390 Adventure (the same colour thats used on the video) and even I had to wait quite a while to get my hands on the SW version to test ride.
The Himalayan 450, hands down. It clearly has the better off road setup. I already have a BS4 390 Duke which is the nearly same as the 390 Adventure for touring but 14 kg lighter so better in the city. It's definitely more willing to lift the front wheel every now and then. Also, it doesn't have traction control so that's one less thing to turn off when I start riding. That being said, I would prefer to wait for the new 390 Adventure if it comes with longer suspension travel and a 21" front wheel. I already have another RE which I intend to keep and would prefer to have two motorcycles from different brands.
Sure thing. The Himalayan does it slightly better offroad. But the suspension is OH - MY - GAWD
@@powerdriftofficial I think RE collaborated with Showa not only for the suspension parts but also for the tuning.
Yeah could be. Its usually a one partner collaboration for everything
I own a Duke 390 which has been a daily commuter of about 50kms for me from past 5yrs and man that’s a pocket rocket. I’m thinking to buy Himalayan 450 for its comfort in city and also on highways. Should I stick with Duke390 or go for Himalayan.?

And there’s no clarity on that
@@powerdriftofficial yes why RE like that?
Its not in their hands honestly. The certification has to come in through as well
I had the 2023 Adv390, I loved how it looked, the stance, the tall seat height, the way it attracted eyeballs. Sold it in a year cause of the harsh suspension, the vibes and the bike with niggles. The Adv instead has been proven to be ridden by plenty off road experts in worst situations and nothing happened to the alloys. Although the Himalayan 452 and the older one have issues filled to the brim as well. Plenty vibes there, the suspension for the new one ain't as good as the old which was plush. None of them bring a good package to the table.
Ah haa. FYI - The suspension on the new Himalayan is absolutely world class
which is best option for long tours like 4000kms and above, as well for short rides also?
Both the motorcycle can tour comfortably. The 390 ADV can do short rides better than the Himmy
This was a very nice compare...but can you also do an in depth review of Honda NX500. i am confused between these 3 as i am planning to switch over to either of these 3
As soon as Honda decides on a media unit.
NX 500 is very much overpriced.
Yes I'm interested in an NX 500 vs KTM 390 Adv comparison video.
The main reason in choosing the Himalayan over the ktm would be the price for many ppl... If the new ktm adventure bike (which will be released in the comming day) has a price simillar to the Himalayan then it would be real tough to choose btw ktm and himalyan
Bingo! Pricing is a big factor here. Also, the new KTM will not be cheaper than this

@@powerdriftofficial Bro Take Mine And Go Have Fun 😅 Just would love to See Head On Head Comparison 🙏
The quickshifter is actually good considering the price at which KTM offers it. I did a 4000 km Uttarakhand trip in my 2023 model 390 ADV and the quickshifter was good throughout. Sometimes, it's a bit jerky from 1st to 2nd and after that, it's mostly smooth. You wouldn't complain because of how much effort it saves you. For touring, it is a boon! I'd rate it as the best feature that the Himalayan does not have.
But how much effort really? The 390's slipper clutch is extremely light to operate. In fact, I am looking for good shorty levers for my 390 Duke so that I can operate both levers using just my index finger. Also, if an engine has good midrange torque, you don't need to shift gears often.
But it should quickshift, not misshift!
@@powerdriftofficial heard complaints about it before purchasing the bike. But, never once did a misshift happen in my bike - 2023 June model Std. I believe KTM silently improved the QS+ in the Adv models. Saying this after covering 13000 kms in 6+ months. I guess the key is to be firm while pushing the lever, not too gentle. It's my favourite feature in the motorcycle.
@@twowheeledparadox the clutch is light no doubt but still not the lightest. It's just slightly better than my previous CBR 250R. Also, the need to shift is your riding style. I usually shift more than others and stay above 4.5-5k rpms. Someone else may just accelerate from 3.5k rpm in the same gear. Over a long ride, it adds up! I mean - I am definitely feeling it.
@@siddhant707 I know what you're talking about. I always prefer to keep the engine in or near the power band too. That's the thing about the BS4-6 390. It needs to be kept on a boil so it needs more gearshifts even after I installed a FuelX on my Duke. When I hop on my Interceptor, I don't need to shift gears as much even though I subconsciously keep the revs slightly higher than needed. This is because it does higher speeds at low revs and pulls much harder in the midrange than the 390. This disparity would be much lesser between the 390 Adv and the Himalayan 450 but I believe it would be noticeable. I will take my 390 to the RE showroom next time for a back to back comparison.
I owned a Duke 390 for the past 9 years now.. there have been minor niggles yes, but nothing that was easily solved.. the performance has been heart racing and experience euphoric.. I'm sure nothing can match this as I look for a replacement.. I only hope there is a faster Duke or Adv that can race my heart faster! ;)
Wait for the new 390 Adventure

Was waiting for this comparison for Long... Thankyou Guys... Him 450 is the choice but heart goes for ADV since I own a Duke390 I know all about the fun part and how it dominates...
There we go!
Since both the bikes main motto is adventure ..We need to compare both ktm and RE's company guided tours ..I have seen ktm pro xp a program offered by ktm for its customers to learn and be part of guided Tours ..Last yr they had leh ,northeast, spiti and nepal .also ktm has off roading workshops in major cities . I have no idea about Royal Enfield ..would be a point of comparison ...
They do it quite well too. Brilliant idea for a comparo though
RE has been organising guided tours since before KTM launched their first bike in India. The Himalayan Odyssey has been conducted by RE for 18 years now. KTM is new to this game and likely learned from RE's example. Not sure about off-road camps, though. I agree that it's a good idea for a comparison video.
Yeahh for sure

I am confused about the verdict, as you guys said Himalayan has better bottom-end than the KTM, then how come you'all are saying KTM better for city than the Himalayan. This is coming from KTM390 Adv user, where I find city roads in Pune very limiting for KTM, the moment it comes alive, its time to brake :(. I found KTM better for highways than the city.
Its lighter, manageable and easier to ride overall. Plus, in the city one cannot go full ham on the throttle anyway

You need to consider factors like Mileage- is it a thing to you at not Type of ride- highway more or some serious off-road. What have you shortlisted?
@@being_radical_at_times thanks a ton for providing a clear insight. Mileage isn’t a crucial factor as miles munching would be considerably less say 50kms a week at max. Hey Varun im waiting for Honda Nx500 ❤ review please make it happen soon
As soon as VP gets his hands on the media bike
The recent Honda NX500 is creating a sense of interest recently.. Although it's double the price of competition... But it is surprising how Honda which is know high price, made it well even though being CBU/CKD made it at this price for NX500
The pricing is what is killing us. A 500cc motorcycle at that price is 😐
Cost is the biggest enemy for nx500!
@@sivateja4942and you cannot justify price difference there is no big difference interms of performance
Why you guys are not make the video on Himalayan 450 vs Honda NX500?
Because Honda does not have a media unit
considering price bracket, adventure 390x makes more sense. considering off-roading purpose, himalayan is more vfm than adventure 390 sw. adding scrambler 400x with these bikes would've been nicer comparo..!!
We have a separate video on the Himmy vs Scrambler
KTM paint quality & wires feel fine. KTM is lightweight, much lighter than 450, giving it a huge advantage in the off-road dept, because weight is a crucial aspect there. The electronic problems heard of late with the bike not starting with 450 is something to worry about. Additional safety features like lean sensitive TC(which the him 450 lacks I guess) are awesome add-ons that boost riding confidence. 450 looks awkward & lacks the kind of agility 390 has. The alloy wheels of ktm work just fine for most riding. Suspension of ktm is fine for most part. The low end issue of KTM is not much of an issue if you keep the engine above a certain rpm. One who complained about it probably doesn't know how to ride it. The better higher end offers crucial advantage on highway ride, more so with a better pick up too, I suppose. I would still go for the present Adv 390 over the him 450, though the new 390 would change the game altogether.
Nice summary there!
Any update on tubeless tyres for Himalayan?????
Nope. Nothing yet
Here in Norway, I see they offer Tubeless tyres:)
Appreciate the effort you guys have taken to reply to every comment, it’ll be paid off….!
Thanks Sarath :)
On 20th Jan I got delivery of my 390 adventure, The machine is great in terms of looks, power etc however there is some weird vibration & noise coming from rear suspension at 4K rpm, did anyone else find that issue?
The rear? Weird
How would adv 390 be with Himalayan suspension those showa shocks are crazy
Its the setup. Beautifully done. World class as VP says
@@powerdriftofficialas good as africa twin?🥲
The reliability factor can never be associated with RE...
We keep hearing about these issues yes
: The Adv ktm service centers have trained and experienced mechanics who can handle the DOCH engines, and all My queries are rectified and solved but does RE Himalayan has got good after sales and service engineers will be to the notch as this is a new breed of engine in the DOHC for the service engineers hope they are trained and they have dedicated mechanics for this new breed. Peace
Service technicians go through elaborate training when a new product hits the market. Shouldn’t face any issues
In the adv ,There's a small wire ... From the rear wheel , the MTC/ ABS wire with a plug ij thr righ side of the engine ... Unplug it to un leash thr beast... Also it also overcomes the cumbersome process of switching the MTC off every time we switch on the bike in offroad Note : not for touring... Juat offroads
Nice one mate!
I think to properly test/compare any touring bike, it must be a long tour. The longer the tour be, the more you get exhausted, the negatives and shortfalls become much prominent.
This wasn’t a touring review but we hear you
The X variant of the Adventure 390 has a more plusher ride than the standard variant. But I agree that neither of those hold a candle to the ride quality of the Himmy 450. Traction control isn't necessary on the Himmy, but cruise control is sorely missed.
Good summary we must say
40 Nm @5500 rpm vs 37Nm@7000 rpm..... RE 🔥
🔥 🔥🔥
U don't ride spec sheet 🤦🏻♂️. . . Yes it's down 3 nm, but it's also down a whopping 19kgs less than Himalayan, which those extra 3NM can't compromise 🙃. . .
@@radarroi27 exactly you don't ride spec sheet...!
Di take long test ride, then you will surely choose 390 over him450
Nice comparison vdo I am a RE person so always RE
Thanks Narendra! Glad you liked the video.
Hey I thought the KTM 390 Adventure also had a Low Seat Height version?
🥲
Scrambler 400 coming in and saying well let me see I am fun, I am practical, I can ride in city, highway and trails & little more than trails. So I win for most of the people, for those richies with two or three bike budgets i'd say take the Himalayan. KTM engine is built for Duke and rc
Himalayan 450 the dual sport monster. I own it chose it over and above all competiotion.
Cheers Rahul
Hi varun, Can you elaborate more about vibration? How bad is it? I have Meteor 350 and i feel no vibration till 100kmph after 100 to 125 I do feel buzz and its not smooth but at 100 I can ride easily all day. So how bad the vibrations are, compared to the j series meteor
VP says its quiet till 80kmph post which its buzzy. At 120kmph, the vibrations can be felt. Will leave your fingers ringing.
@@powerdriftofficial thanks PD
@@powerdriftofficialDeal breaker.
Well I've different questions.. If u don't mind... What's your height? And what's the exact size of your riding pant?
VP is almost 6’2”. Karan is nearly the same. Riding pants????
@@powerdriftofficial yes that rynox one... What's the size?
Any day Tm adventure 390 Design was future prof , reliability, service, parts cost , Chassis Engine power, electronics, handling , cornaring ❤
Woohooo
I don't want to take my bike even to a little bit of off road, I just want to tour long distances. Which is better for me?
Scrambler for sure
End of video is fun pd army doesn't misses to entertain ❤😂
Hahahaha! Bloopers are fun always
Royal Enfield becomes a game changer everytime they launch a new motorcycle. Please.....we all know what happened with the Himalayan that came in the beginning. So..... summary is: good engines... Everything is substandard in terms of a combination. Something or the other breakdown.
Yes they are good at Marketing but poor products
They definitely have gotten better over time. Unfortunately, we as journalists don’t get to experience long term issues during a first ride and that is exactly what happened during the 411
Adv 390 Any Day ! Cant Wait For The Updated Version To Launch ! 🔥🔥
We cannot either! Should be a good one
Powerdrifft I have a request for you guys. When Then Xtreme 125r is on sale then please make video on this bike. Or if you are more kind hearted channel then please make a comparo video between TVS Raider and Hero Xtreme 125r. Actually I am planning to buy Xtreme 125r . So please
That is the plan 😊
I have ridden multiple 390 advs and surprised not many people nor channels talk about how vibey it is. It is not a smooth motorcycle at all. Specially the headlight assembly rattles like crazy. Surprising that it is a modified duke and the duke 390 doesnt feel like such a vibrating machine. And weird that everyone starts saying the himmy 450 is buzzy. It might be (i havent ridden it long duration yet) but the 390 is definitely not a smooth motorcycle.
We did speak about refinement issues. The Himmy feels smoother but vibes catch up after 90kmph.
Hi what solution would you’ll recommend anti puncture sealant or tubeless conversion kit
Outex is one such solution!
@@powerdriftofficial I don't outex yet launched the solution for new Himalayan. I did from way2speed.
@@subhadipbanerjee6791how is the way2speed bro ? I’m thinking of it
Way2speed anti puncture solution is much better and cheaper to brother
I yet to go for a long ride after upgrade. but so far so good.
If Himi would have weighed 20 kg lighter I would have preferred it over, but right now Adv 390 is love ❤
Its also where the weight is placed. VP finds the top heavy nature alright. Most people will struggle
