  • Finally the truth has been spoken. The Himalayan hype videos on KZhead from so many channels were getting a bit too much as everyone was lost in all the buzz created. I can always rely on PD to speak the truth and give a clean, unbiased review. I have taken an extensive test ride of both the bikes and the Himalayan left me unimpressed. Maybe it was all the hype surrounding it which made expect too much. A second test ride gave me clarity and as VP said this is primarily for touring. I found it too heavy and tough in the city and quite big as well. It's quite vibey as well which not many speak about. You also need to see if you can handle the weight while off roading, I'm no expert and I found it a bit difficult but its hardware will do wonders for those who can handle it. The Scrambler 400x on the other hand was a revelation. It blew me away and far exeeded my expectations. I didn't think it'll feel so light as it weighs the same as my Hness. I could not believe how fun it was and it just spoke to me. I could connect with it and ride it as I've been riding it for long. The only other bike that gave me such a feeling was the Adventure 390 when I first rode it but the 400X took it to another level. Also I always thought these high compression liquid cooled bikes would never have the low end torque like the big thumper engines from RE 350 series and this thought was solidified after riding the Himalayan 450. It felt like a KTM 390 if KTM put a lot of effort into improving the bottom end torque, yet not very tractable. The Triumph engine felt exactly what I wanted from the Sherpa 450. Look its no RE 350 bottom end but theres loads of it and the tractability is amazing, it can pull literally from any gear. After owning a KTM and then the Hness, I'm bored of the constant gear shifts while riding in the city so the 400x felt like a soothing ointment. I'm now waiting for the first batches to pass and see if any issues crop up as I've already suffered a lot of teething issues with my bikes due to my hasty decisions buying the all new Duke in 2017 and the all new Hness in 2021. Thank you PD and VP for this amazing video.

    • @@harshraj5514 it means the Himalayan is good for a specific set of people who want to use it mostly for touring with some off road riding as well. Such people should also be ok with the weight and the vibes but they are also rewarded with arguably the best suspension. Also everyone needs to keep in mind that these are tube type tyres and repairing a puncture on such a heavy bike while on tour at an unknown location can become a nightmare. If you're ok with the these and some niggles that crop up on a new gen RE then you'll be happy with the bike. If some of these are deal breakers then it's better to look at the Scrambler 400X or 390 Adventure X

Did 130-140kmph literally effortlessly, manuevering thru traffic was piece of cake ( downshifting and upshifting is butter smooth ) and the machine is so light cornering gives lovely feeling and soft roading was pure fun. I was able to score 35kmpl on highway. It was hard to pick one from these two but scrambler I think is not going to disappoint with performance.

  • Great review & actually it's quite fair to put these up against each other. I've been scratching my head for a few months now over these two bikes, but alas neither have reached the UK yet. I think as an everyday bike I'd prefer the triumph, but I do have some adventures planned so for that the Himalayan is the better choice. Having said that, my adventures will be the B roads and byways of mostly the UK and avoiding motorways like the plague and it seems the scrambler would be very capable of that?. On the other hand, the much larger petrol tank on the Himalayan means fewer pit stops and would do better at carrying luggage so would i be happy living with it as an everyday bike?. I can't afford two bikes so I do have to choose one or the other.

    • Bingo Max. The Scrambler should do the job really well. As far as luggage capacity goes, the Triumph should be able to handle saddle bags with a saddle stay in place. We also suggest a test spin of both these motorcycles. Should clear those final doubts out.

  • 1. Regarding your take on tubeless spoke wheels, I would not consider it as a deal breaker because at this price point I guess it is too much to ask. One can definitely add it as an accessory once the approvals come through and at an extra cost it is still definitely worth buying. Until then one can definitely manage with sealants. 2. People talk about vibes and Buzz but in most rugged motorcycles one just gets used to the feel of it in high speeds. Thats infact a way you feel the high speeds. Rest are totally agreeable to me..... There are upsides and downsides to both vehicles and you choose one based on your needs. My opinion: If you go on a lot of weekend rides and also explore some offroad tracks. Then buy the Himalayan 452 and not the scrambler. If you just want a sexy looking vehicle with some occasional highway riding and decent suspension to get through general bad roads, then go for the scrambler.

Even foot pegs are way closer No Windshield Overall very small looking for a 4lakh price tag. ( Presence is bit better than speed 400) Analogue Tacho would have made sense. They went the other way. Feels less suitable to load with several baggages for long tour programs. Himalayan have all these, but lack tubeless tires. Even it comes, will come with a hefty price tag. RE engines and Vibrations are inseparable. Test ride vehicle had vibes, high tappet noise just after few months since launching. • The fact here is Himalayan 452 may be a good offroader but most of the time 70% - we will use it for commuting and in tarmac road and 30%-40% it will be the potholes and bad ,broken , mild offroading , so mostly in traffic here we have the good low end torque and reliability in Scrambler 400x which is missing in RE . And also look wise scrambler 400x turns the head towards . So the wise choice would be Triumph Scrambler 400X. We all know this 😊

  • I have taken a test drive on both... In the end it boils down to your preference and the bike which feels better to you... I personally liked the Himalayan more... The triumph ergonomics was too upright and the brakes felt soggy vs Himalayan...That said both of them are VFM.. I booked the Himalayan today and looking forward to riding it soon..

    • "soggy" is an understatement. I took test ride of both bikes back to back since both showrooms were next to each other in gurgaon. I was shocked how bad the brakes were on triumph. And also they give a "test ride" of barely 2kms so cant say much about handling. But Himalayan felt a much better product overall. I liked its engine better as well as comfort and brakes felt just as good and My GT650.

  • I would choose the RE Himalayan because it looks badass (I really like the looks of the RE) and the practicallity over the Triumph. With Triumph and all other scramblers it is they want to go everywhere and the RE Himalayan can go everywhere. It does not pretend to be, IT IS the bike. As said, I would choose the RE in a heartbeat.

  • Very interesting comparison, thank you. As for me, while I am not particularly interested in off-roading but rather in "cruising," I should choose the Himalayan because I find it more suitable for my build (I am 6 feet tall and weigh 85 kg), while the 400X seems far too "compact" for me. But in any case I really think I will wait for the arrival (2024?) of the Hunter/Scram (?) 450, Cheers!

Loved this video, will be picking either the himalayan or 390adv some time soon. In fact, uograding from a classic 350... my 1st choice was versys 650, but now i don't think i need a 650cc bike (this 400cc category makes a lot more sense) Wondering if 600cc sales would decline because of these 400cc bikes.
