Clear the Crops || Feral Pig & Fox Shooting || 308Win Rifle & Thermion 2 LRF XL50 || Wedgetail Hawk
This contracted shoot I'm solo and hunting invasive feral pigs, foxes and feral cats. There's over 100 killshots in this video running the brand new Thermion 2 LRF XL50 1024x768 HD thermal rifle scope. If you're seeking a video with bulk shooting footage and no bullshit (maybe a little), this is your happy place !!!
It was great to be out in my mate Darren's Wedgetail Hawk Camper and riding around on my Suzuki King Quad AXI 500 ATV. Weather conditions varied greatly with low single figures one night to mid 20's another, was nice to be camping with decent airflow through the canopy that's for sure.

I'm not shooting for human consumption on this trip, it is purely pest control of invasive species in Australia. These uncontrolled animals are an environmental and agricultural menace, often carrying bacterial and diseases like brucellosis. Pigs are left where they lay as carrion, nothing generally lasts more than a week in the Aussie bush before it's just a few scattered remains.
I am a vertebrate pest control - contract shooter in NSW. For those wondering about the suppressors, both my mate and I hold the necessary permits in NSW to do so. If seeking information regarding that, please check the FAR webpage for details. All shooting is performed on privately owned farms, with exclusive permission granted in writing for paid services.

My 308Win rifle is a full custom, which I will review soon to share all the details properly. Action is a Defiance Machine Tenacity, Triggertech Special trigger, 18 inch Carbon Six Barrel, Wedgetail Industries Suppressor, all in an MDT HTN26 Carbon Fibre Chassis. I'm running Fiocchi ammunition with 150 grain Hornady SST projectiles and a sprinkling of subsonic rounds, which are reloads using 190 Sub-X projectiles. My thermal scope is a Pulsar Thermion 2 LRF XL50 and for the scanner I'm a Pulsar Merger LRF XL50 which is also 1024x756 resolution !!! Daylight scope, I'm using a Japanese made Zerotech Trace Advanced 4-24x50mm.

Done ✅
Thanks mate 👌
Great to get a count of kills at the end of the video
Hi there in the Outback and greetings from Berlin, Germany. Your purple weed looks alot like Distel latin, carduus. Sure an imported one of our alpine region. You'r doing good harvest among the pigs!. Your vid showed up when i was watching South OZ Hobby Hunter(YT). Stay save and continue Your impact.
What you using for subsonic?
I’ve met Nathan and he’s a top bloke. I hope more suppliers give him camper, vehicles and rifles to test and review in the future. Really enjoy your videos Nathan, a balance and technical talk and humour.
Thanks mate, really glad you enjoyed it 👍🏻
The purple flower prickly plant is called a variegated thistle. And thanks for your videos and what you do. I was a little sad there were no cats tonight though!
I was looking for the buggers 👌
Variegated thistle is sometimes incorrectly referred to as Scotch thistle. However, the true Scotch thistle (Onopordum acanthium) is not known to occur in Western Australia (WA). Variegated thistle is a native of Eurasia and the Mediterranean and was probably introduced to WA in the early days of settlement. It is a declared plant (noxious weed) throughout the State. It is a weed in New Zealand, North and South America, South Africa and Afghanistan as well as in the countries of its native range. It is also a weed in South Australia, Victoria, New South Wales, Tasmania and Queensland. Spot On!!
@@kenfowler6287 also introduced to British Columbia (Canada) by the wife of Governor Douglas in the mid-1800s, as she thought Victoria did not look sufficiently like Scotland. She also introduced ivy. A lot to answer for there.
Always a challenge to plinking the green seed pods! @@kenfowler6287
@@EDGEoftheOUTBACK In Midwest Stateside, my dear old Grandpa used to make us pull all those dang thistles out of the pastures and burn the thistle heads. It built character. LOL!
The new scope is, as expected, truly stunning mate. Great footage of David Attenborough with a .308 :)
😂 Thanks mate
Agreed, I also hinted at the TV documentary stuff above. 😎👍
As always fantastic content! Love the you’re putting into the videos and the service you’re providing in the region
Much appreciated!
Man I appreciate your proffessionalism and marksmanship! One shot clean up! 🚲🐗🤷
Until 4 days ago I didn't know such a profession existed! For some reason Google algorithm put it on my timeline. I have been hooked since then and the algorithm keeps sending more! The quality histhe equipment, narration & his marksmanship is 💯
Really appreciate it mate 👌
They only exist because the Australian government banned guns and made it so difficult for the farmers to obtain a proper gun that hiring this guy with the proper licenses is cheaper. On America there is no such profession because the farmers do it themselves.
@masonhales guns are not banned in Australia. You need a licence, yes.
@@EDGEoftheOUTBACKIf you need a license then they're banned
@@masonhales Banned is not allowed to do something at all lol. Restricted is more the word. allowed guns if join a sport shooting club and need to go to events a certain number of times a year. Also are primary producer licences where help cull pests on farms. we had guns and licences to shoot sharks in professional fishing industry. Semi auto and full auto are banned, are people with pistols associtated with gun clubs.
the clarity of night vision on that scope is absolutely amazing, great shooting as always mate.
Cheers
The tech in scopes these days is amazing. No messing about with the 308, super shooting !!
One of your best videos, it has it all from camping, to quad bike action, and lots of feral animals going down!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great editing Nathan. People need to know how much work you put into these productions 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I appreciate that!
A Gaytime and Pasito, 2 Aussie icons right there 👍
Absolutely 👌
Great work on the pigs & foxes as always. Appreciate the effort you put into your videos. Awesome 👍
Cheers
*EDGE of the OUTBACK* Bravo well done, thank-you gentlemen for taking the time to bring us along. GOD Bless.
Glad you enjoyed it
Impressive roll @ 3:33 but an even more impressive shot. Well done, Nathan.
Cheers David
Quality shooting as always. Thanks for getting out there and looking after the environment, unlike the greenies who get upset with your videos
They can whinge all they like. Appreciate it mate 👌
Outstanding outing once again.. You really do create motivation! Love the 2 for 1, the running shots and the superb 300+ shot!!
Appreciate it mate 👌
Another great video Nathan. It’s the highlight of my week when your video drops.
That's fantastic to hear, really appreciate the support mate 👌
The canopy setup looks good. Easier than a roof top tent. Great for hunting or touring solo or couple.
Great to see you working your subsonic wand it's magical keep up your fantastic work 👌
Thank you so much 😀
Absolutely love watching your videos. Spectacular stuff.
Thank you very much!
love the video, thanks for sharing. quality footage and shoting as per usual
Much appreciated!
The next best thing to being there. Always appreciated Nath.
Cheers
Just recently found your channel as im getting licensing underway for firearms. Love to see a NSW local and i am enthralled with your style, professionalism, and no nonsense but polite manner.
Enjoy the journey mate, you'll love it 👍🏻
Buddy... you're living the dream and I'm envious 😁.... great video and shooting as always... keep up the good work....all the best 👊
Cheers
Nice set up. Didn't know Australia also has a pig problem. Helped deliver a plane to Waga Waga from the US back in the 80's than spent some time in Underpool with a farmer friend. They had a kangaroo problem that would destroy the wheat crops.
That phone recording part + a semi auto would have been unreal - if us Aussies could have Semi autos. Solid content man, I didn’t realise how bad our feral pest issue was until I found your channel a few months ago and I’m Glad I did as I’m currently considering going through the processes of licensing and getting into this line of work, which I probably wouldn’t have delved into at all if I hadn’t have found your channel. Keep poppin pests and educating those who are unaware of how ripe the issues are because we all know the gov doesn’t care about anything that doesn’t fill their pockets.
Same here actually - I'm looking for an active job after IT for 15 years. As long as I don't have to gut the things, i'll be fine 🥴
Check the laws in your state. Semi automatic rifles are allowed for animal control officers in some (at least when I checked the law in my state a year or two back).
Owning a semi auto in Australia is a hugely restricted thing. Even as a professional pest controller the hoops to jump through are immense.
Can Australians use semi-automatic pistols? A bolt-action rifle covers your left, while the pistol can cover your right and behind you.
Many country's citizens are sending more right-side folks into government. You in Australia should pursue that goal in order to get your guns back. Nothing wrong with a bolt-action, but there is no reason to prohibit semi-autos. Fight for your rights!
I really enjoy your videos 📹. ,especially your narrative! The explanations of your gear and ammo is excellent ! Keep them coming. 😊
Really appreciate it John. Cheers mate 👌
I appretiate all the technical info you give on all your equipment...Thanks
Cheers 👌
Hi great vid as usual! The thistle is called Saffron Thistles! Nastier when they've dried out + when it gets into the front of your radiator!
Yeah I remember that fun after the last drought 😞
Dang your a good shot on the run! Watching some of those leading shots is making me a better shooter in practice. Thanks mate!
That's great to hear 👌
first time watcher. Incredible shots. Keep up the good work
That bloody thistle is here in America too, and I gets me all the time. Love your gun, and it's set up. I was having some trouble with my suppressor glowing in my scope, and I put a solid 1 inch rail under it, and it did the job.
Hi Nathan. Great shooting mate. I always wait for your videos to come out. Someone commented that those thistles were Safron Thistles, but Safron Thistles are yellow. Those you showed in your video are Scotch Thistles. I used to dig them out on the farm I worked on when I was much younger, and as you said, they are real buggers to get through.
Fantastic video Nathan, really enjoyed the content. Love your variety of video shots and the editing. Also good on you for showing that even with thermal it is still easy to miss a target. The reality is as you say quite different to what you normally see on you tube.
Absolutely, it's a gap to reality that's often hard to pass across to this digital world.
@@EDGEoftheOUTBACK Watching your videos inspired me to upgrade from ATN X sight to Thermion XQ50LRF -thanks.
@@wishbone5785 that'll be mint, certainly a different game thermal vs NV
Wow! Great video! You were really getting those pigs! And you make a very good commercial about campers, too! 🙂
Cheers Nath, highlight of my week, always keen for your vids.
Legend!
Thistle - About as pesky as those pigs! Great vid mate 👍
Glad you enjoyed
Wow, the resolution and thermal image quality on that scope is amazing. You almost have to feel sorry for your targets, they don’t stand much of a chance!
Well Nathan. I take my hat of to you again cobber. The way you present it, your content and your shooting. Job well done mate.🤠🤠🤠
Thanks mate, chipping away as usual 👌
Nice to see the 308 making a come back
Pretty sure you could count the hairs on those boars with that scope man...awesome video as usual and keep up the amazing work sir.
Thanks! Will do!
This guy is great. We sure could use him in the states. Great show mate.
Thank you 👌
Damm this is easily one of ya best videos yet, 4x4 stuff with camping and a bit of pest control! Fantastic
Glad you enjoyed it!
Wow awesome video you got some really nice equipment really dig that truck and camper. Love the rig the whole set up. It’s just awesome. I bet that thing ain’t cheap.
Scotch Thistle
Yes, one such variety anyway!!
I'm not a 100% but I believe Scotch Thistle is a shorter plant but we grew up with them. The dogs don't like them and they will get the most of the bur and we brush the rest out.
Scotch thistle makes you whistle
Can you smoke it.?
@@anthonycarmody5253 Yes! Careful though, too much and it will give you a really bad headache and make you cough your lungs out.
You, sir, are quite good at your craft. We have those thistles here in the States as well or at least something that looks very similar.
Thank you very much!
Great vid.... thanks for sharing l I agree with your naming of that evil plant🍻
Now that's a target rich environment. Fantastic hunt. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Fantastic hunt keep up the excellent work :)
Thanks, will do!
What an awesome video and impressive scope. Available here in Scotland from yesterday but a bit expensive at £6339 GBP. I’ve said it before but you’d be a great candidate for world running boar championship. There doesn’t seem to be hardly any pixelation when you zoom in. It would be great if you can do a review and explain how the ballistic app works and your thoughts
Thanks mate, I'll review it when I've had a decent stint with it 👌. I never rush into these things.
@@EDGEoftheOUTBACK 👍🙏
Looks like the flower from Braveheart! Pasito! No passiona here, ladies! Legend!
Glorious stuff mate, no wonder that the farmer was pleased with your efforts..Bravo 👏👏👏
Thanks 👍
Looks like what we called “Scotch Thistle”. Nasty piece of noxious weed.
It is variegated thistle (Silybum marianum).
As someone new to the channel, what do you do with the carcasses? Are they left there or are they collected? Just curious. Really good shooting and doing a great service to our farming community.
Left there. He’s said it a few times in the past 🍻😀
Appreciate it mate 👌 Have a squizz in the video description as there's always more info on those questions 👍🏻
@@EDGEoftheOUTBACK thank you for your reply. I will have a read.
Don't Hold Back !, Tell us How Much you love that Beautiful Purple Flower ! Great Vids ! Show the Gore !!
Thanks mate. Sorry can't gore it up more as I can get strikes and my channel deleted 😞
Awesome shooting buddy. The Thermal scope looks fantastic clarity
The weed is called stinging nettle. also, I’m curious about what you do with all this meat. good shooting I love your rifle. Cheers.
It's not stinging nettle, that's a bit different. This is Variegated Thistle so I'm told and he Google images match.
@scrap he has said in other videos that he leaves them where they fall. The carcasses will be disposed of by local wildlife within a few days.
Great video as always! What do you do with the dead bodies afterwards or do you let the birds get them?
Have a squizz in the video description 👍🏻 (save me typing the same paragraph out again)
The clarity on that scope is superb, and these spiky plants are thistles,
Technically they are variegated thistle 👌 (and Thank you)
I’d like to see you in Texas with a semi auto. Great work!!!! All setups are sweet!
Did that in March. Video to come, but I'm running Cat D now for some contracts with am AR10 anyway.
Is it variegated thistle?
Yes it is 👌
That looks to be Variegated thistle commonly known as Milk thistle. It is obviously different to Scotch thistle but is another disgusting European prickly weed (along with all the other disgusting prickly European weeds in this country). Re the ice cream what about a Two in One - the mind boggles? Then there was the Cream Between - like WTF LOL? A Gaytime is always been amusing as was Camp maple syrup. Then there was Annalisa brand canned foods - I mean one extra 'n' doesn't divert from the endless schoolboy gift that keeps giving...
Had to use the fridge for something more than drinks. The ice-cream was fantastic 👌
I love your videos. Thank you
This footage is just making me more impatient waiting for mine to arrive 🤣🤣👍👍
A 'gay time' is a genuinely wonderful ice cream... I am surprised the woke brigade has not banned them! There seem to be more ferals out in the paddocks these days - good conditions for breeding, perhaps?
I reckon they will ban them soon enough unfortunately. At least the name.
Another great video Nathan, liked the rundown on the thermal and that camper is a sweet rig.
Thanks 👍
That has to be one of the nicest looking rifles I've seen to this day.
Thanks mate, build video coming up in a few weeks 👌
First comment
I did a double take when you said “Gay time” and I was like… “Wait… this guy has a boyfriend?”
😂, Um definitely not 😂.
I'm amazed by your video. Great job clearing that land!
Thank you very much!
Great and good quality vid mate, looking forward to the next one. 👍👍
Thanks 👍
What a 'target rich environment'! - Nice video
yeah mate found this video randomly, let me tell ya, solid watch. good bloke doing good work, looks like you love what ya do too, couldn't ask for more cobba! keep on keeping on!
Much appreciated
Unlike a lot of content on KZhead you don't stuff around,, bit of intro then straight to it. Nice work mate, keep it up.
Thanks, that's the goal 💪
Great Vid Nathan and those spikey plants we called Scotch Thistle which are considered a nocuous weed in SA.
Variegated thistle 👌
Canvas chaps mate, I used to tend hoop pine in the forestrys years ago they were the ducks guts walkin through all that scotch thistle and lantana plus wait a while and coxs spur love the vids bloke:) always some culling to be done.
Loving the Wedgetail Hawk Camper.
We call them scotch thistles and believe it or not the pigs will route them all up and eat the roots. In some places at home they grow to about five foot high. If you want to know what pain is wait till you get them in bales of hay when your hay carting. Ouch ouch ouch. And the splinters festa. Love the vids. Bravo from Victoria Australia.
love watchin your lead shots! Cheers from Texas!
Thanks 👍
beautiful shooting as always. That new scope is the ducks guts. the plant is a thistle. good eating on them, if you're starving. Makes a nice tea with the flower too

Im not a gun nut, but I do like binoculars. I do see the idear in guns for hunting. But that scope is awsome. Impressiv shooting.
Here in New South, the variegated thistle is commonly known as the cabbage thistle, don't know about anywhere else.
Nice work Impressed with that scope
Yeah me too
