In Godzilla's defense, he had been basically fighting non-stop for 2 days on top of searching for Mechagodzilla before actually fighting him, so at that point he was pretty tired. Even though he is basically just a giant gorilla, he still put in work against a mythological creature that can swim, shoot lasers, and get stronger from nuclear energy. And Kong ended up saving Godzilla and destroying Godzilla 2.0. But even when he was hurt and had like 10 HP, Kong still stood tall when it looked like Godzilla wanted to run the 1's again.

Godzilla pretty much proved in 2 battles that he was superior to Kong, but Kong did fought better than expected both times, while also earning Godzilla's respect. Even though Godzilla in his weakened state needed Kong's help to defeat mechagodzilla, Godzilla still ended the film as the undisputed king of the monsters.

He also blasted a hole into hollow earth from the surface with his breath which used a up a ton of energy. I doubt Godzilla was even 50% power at hos point.

HONESTLY, this is smart writing with the dialogue you got. Where most others think they're being witty and one liners like Ironman... this dude HAS had a solid theme in his talk whole time.
I loved the way this movie did the fights between these titans. Kong absolutely lost the first fight because he's fighting a _marine creature_ in the _WATER._ Kong can't swim, Kong can't breathe underwater, meanwhile Godzilla is at his most invincible. Final fight, Kong is getting in close and hitting Godzilla as much as possible because if it turns into a ranged battle, Kong has nothing to counter atomic breath with. And when Kong tries for the Ol' Jawbreaker, he forgets that's where the atomic breath comes out of. They gave each monster a fighting style that made sense for them, rather than just slugging each other until one goes down.
Godzilla only won because of a technicality in the contract this is why it was not a rematch between the toho version of KING KONG. There really was not reason to watch this version of Godzilla vs KONG because it wasn't a rematch and they didn't stay true to source material the lack in viewings proves my comment factual

Kong's electrical powers were from a different story that involved kong fighting a different monster that eventually down the line became godzilla vs king kong. The electric powers were the only surviving concept from that original pitch. It wasn't tacked on if the powers weren't specifically made to counter godzilla from jump

Things to note: 1) HIM KONG in the water fight wasn't at his peak as he was drugged to all hell. Jia is the only reason he even went on the ship, and didn't just rip his chains of right then and there and make everyone there his PACK. 2) GODzilla is stated to only be POSSIBLY killed by the "Kiss Of Death" because Mecha G can't do enough damage to him cuz of his thick scales (bro barely got real wounds compared to what GOAT GHIDORAH did). He would have won against Mecha G's beam clash if he was EVEN close to full strength. 3) Mecha G wasn't at his peak because he did not have the Hollow Earth Radiation. He got what was essentially a imperfect emulation of it, not what for example Godzilla and others Titans have. 4) Despite me being a Goji Fan you gotta admit Bro could heart. He wouldn't bow down to Godzilla no matter what (which Godzilla respects).
Your last point is something ALOT of G fans need to remember instead of just bashing on kong for just existing. If G fans can respect gamera despite he would never win against godzilla (and lost in death battle) or anguirus/rodan despite both never won a single fight in this franchise then kong should get respect too. He didn't care about being king of the monsters, he just didn't want to submit, godzilla acknowledged that and respected that. If godzilla can respect kong, then it's sad some G fans are incapable of doing that

Yup And this is one of the many reasons I prefer the 60's fight over this one. Here the movie favors Kong in the story and Godzilla in the fights, while in the original was more of an even ground of sorts- Kong gave Godzilla much more of a fight there even before the lightning strike and him knocking himself out hilariously

I like how *Kong* wasn't given *plot armor* vs. *Godzilla* unlike how *Batman* always gets *plot armor* vs. *Superman.* A lot of people most-likely thought this fight would be like *Batman vs. Superman* whereby *Kong's* intelligence, his axe, his relatability, and his underdog-status would help him defeat *Godzilla.* However, although all of this is on an *absurd level,* the writer & director understood to give audiences the more *realistic* outcome, unlike *Batman vs. Superman.* My respects go to *Adam Wingard.*
Kong had all kinds of plot armor? The depth charges that were strong enough to stun GOD FUCKING ZILLA into letting Kong go would have absolutely stunned an already drowning and disorientated Kong, thus killing him. The fact that it was shown that while the axe blocks the atomic breath, it still has enough force to push Kong backwards when he is on the ground and leaning into it, yet when he is in the air with absolutely no leverage it doesn't push him at all. The fact we see a glancing shot of the atomic breath was enough to knock Kong clean out of the air and scorch him instantly, and yet an axe filled to the brim with atomic breath explodes point blank in his FACE and only casually flings him away and not scorching him to ash. The fact that Godzilla's dorsal plates are sharp enough to be used as an axe, and we see Kong elbowing them and getting Godzilla's entire back of them shoved into his chest then have him dragged across them with zero damage done whatsoever. The fact the atomic breath was cutting through buildings like tissue paper and yet Kong could use a small piece of one as a shield. Look I am all for a good fight and all, and it was a good fight, but saying Kong had no plot armor against Godzilla in this movie is straight up ridiculous xD

Bruh Kong had *NOTHING BUT* plot armor in this fight wtf lol??? 1) Size difference between Kong and Godzilla is immense. Realistically King Kong would be a bit shorter than Godzillas Kneecaps. 2) The entire ocean fight.... in the previous Godzilla movie they used a nuclear hydrogen bomb to RESTORE Godzillas body and stamina. Here they use fighter jet missiles and they actually kind of hurt/distracted him. Normally he wouldn't even notice. Then GZ starts drowning Kong, took him 100s of meters below the water and was still dragging him down, but we fired depth charges that not only caught up to them, but did enough damage to Godzilla to let Kong go but did no damage to Kong, who also magically learned how to swim. He was already like almost half a mile underwater but swam back up faster than Godzilla could catch him? Because of the depth charges??? How is that not plot armor lol? 3) They gave Kong a weapon lol. An Axe made from one of GZ scales, that can conveniently absorb his Dragonbreath attack lol. *PLOT*. *ARMOR*. That's the epitome of plot armor lol 4) Godzilla wasn't even worried about Kong, he was looking for Ghidora and sensed Kong as a possible source. But once he figured out Kong wasn't the one he was looking for he let him go. Kong had nothing but plot armor this entire movie lol
Are you kidding me????? Kong had ALL the plot armour. On top of what others have said in their replies: Kong was made 4x larger than he was in KSI even though he was already of adult age and he was given an axe that just so happened to be made of the only substance capable of absorbing atomic breath - all because they knew that a true 1v1 match-up is so horrendously lop-sided in Goji's favour that it would be over in seconds. He was also given the plot armour of slow-moving atomic breath so that he cold outrun it and - laughably - see it coming as he jumps through the air, giving him time to whip the axe in position and block it. Goji's atomic breath is deadly yet he only gets slightly burnt when hit with its full force. He constantly had humans interfering to save his life and for some unexplained reason, an electrical shock can not only jumpstart his heart but also heal and reshape the crushed bones in his chest.
