Otherwise it's always going to be a losing battle. Because the other person doesn't have the same level of restraint. But once the gloves were off, the gap in skill was made apparent. The part where aang starts to breathe fire is the highlight of the fight for me, you can feel and hear so much fury behind it.
Ozai must have been straight tweaking with that comet boost because there's no way he fired a lightning bolt at Aang and was THAT surprised when he redirected it. The last encounter with his son ended with him doing the exact same thing to him. Like did he just not listen to Zuko when he said he was going to join the Avatar? Did he think he wasn't going to teach him that.
