whew , wow, love the guy but fporgot how powerful this is, can you imagine his show!!!!!
It was like being alive with Beethoven. I always liked Prince, I was born in Minneapolis, but I don't think I appreciate just how great he was when he was with us. Rest in Peace, Prince.

Luv Prince great songwriter!
Probably the most underrated yet best guitar player to ever exist
You still got Stevie Ray Vaughan but this is a beautiful work of art! What an artist! Needed this song tonight!
Prince because my favorite artist of all time from the first moment I heard his music back in 1980. While I believe he was a good guitarist at first who became great, I don’t think he is the greatest ever. Saying who that really is, is a tough thing to begin with. I think he deserves to be in the conversation again because of how great I think he became over the years.
_And,_ arguably the most underrated Singer.
Jimi Hendrix could play circles around Stevie and Prince. They were very clearly imitators of Jimi. Not the way around
@@PurpleSupernova not even close. Go some research! They were all artist tho!
I can be depressed, lonely or hurting over my kids and grandchildren, I can listen to this and I feel calm,so at peace,He's wonderful
You can't choose your family but you can choose your friends❤
He plays from the depth of his soul and I can feel it. There’s no one like you, Prince
I will Never Forget This Performance !! I was There ! I was T-Shirt Security at this show and will never forget how Aw Struck the Entire place was during this Amazing rendition . Ran into a couple girls i knew from Fort Plain NY and escorted them right up front for a few moments as they wer in tears and shaking ! Great Memories . And Now at 62 Years Old its so great to see this clip and still feel the chills ! RIP Prince

There is a story about the singer who momentarily sang with Prince at his microphone which I read years ago, and have been trying to find tonight but haven't succeeded so far. It was an iconic event.

Today is 03/16/24. Almost 40 years to the day of this performance. I remember it like it was yesterday, I was 10 years old. My sister won tickets to this show on the radio and she chose me to go with her. It was pure magic. There was so much love and emotion in that stadium it was absolutely amazing. There were no wars, no fights, no bickering or arguing amongst anyone, nothing but love... No other artist brought so many people of so many different cultures together like Prince did... You will forever be missed Prince Rogers Nelson
I can relate. I was 15 and remember it like it was yesterday. Much better times.
Well said 👏
Yes you are right. This song resonates love. You are lucky to have been there
I was born in ‘83, but I wish I was there experiencing this!🎤🎸🌧️
Prince never got the recognition for guitarist he was. This song is the epitome of prince, a career summed up in one performance. He shook so many lives. I would have loved to have been able to rattle his brain.

The 5 minute intro alone is a masterpiece!

Is that Wendy on the guitar, just gently stroking the notes against the heavy drum beats? Sounds so very good, and forms such a beautiful counterpart or introduction to the mad genius guitar licks to come with Prince.

This song came up on KZhead in 2016 when he died. And i was in a severe heavy depression. took me 5 years . But this song went through the core of my being. And cried buckets of tears. The guitar solo man oh man. Out off this world. He has not a clue what he did for me. I played him Purple. Day in day out. I love you Prince and i always will. 8 years today. RIP.

Purple. Blue, mixed with red. The colors of the soul. Anguish, pain, pure love, remembrance. Transportative love. Gone planetary. It’s other worldly. Soul food. Soul nourishing. Soul purpose. Soul soup. pure bliss, mixed with so much sadness. This is life’s entire essence and the only answer to what us humans call life. ☀️🙏☀️

You just gotta stay in the purple rain......,
I have to respectfully disagree: kzhead.info/sun/n6mlc96goZuGi3A/bejne.html It was pouring at half-time, and when the producers talked to Prince before he went out, they were nervous about the rain. Prince asked "Can you make it rain harder?" Man was a legend.
@@WeTheWounded It was acutally the morning of the superbowl he had that conversation. But i agree, what a perfromance! Him slowly getting the crowd onside, for what is up there as one of the greatest sing backs of all time. Best superbowl performance of all time for sure.
Youngsters will never understand how on fire this guy was in 1985. Absolutely spectacular performance. Mesmerizing.
It was the best of times and you are right they will never understand how awesome those days were
I'll not forget Erick Clapton was asked what does it feel like to be the best guitarist in the world. He said, " I don't know. Ask Prince." And Prince's playing on Clapton's tribute was beautiful.
Oh goodness. Absolutely friggin beautiful.
Sometimes you just hear a guitar and know who's playing.
Youngsters like this like old people do. Don't underestimate
I'm really jealous of the people who got to witness this exceptional performance live
Was thinking that the whole time. What an amazing experience that must have been.
The best thing about Prince is that he never focused any song on the guitar. He had his own sound. But, id place him in my top 5 list of greatest guitar players ever list of all time. That fact that he was so good and never made a 'Guitar' record like most acts makes it almost genious. What a class act!!! Rest in peace!!!!

I feel so bad for the people that never got to actually experience a concert. Prince was a very underrated guitarist. His voice was unique but his guitar work was sublime, beyond compare.
Not only was his Voice ‘unique’… he had, _literally_ the widest Vocal Range of any Singer in the history of Popular Music.
he's a complete copycat of Jimi Hendrix. The thing is if you weren't born early enough, you didn't listen to certain albums, you wouldn't know that.
@@PurpleSupernova That’s absolutely nonsensical. Prince and Hendrix had a _completely different_ sound & style. There are a million and one Guitarists that sound just like Hendrix; _Prince_ isn’t one of them. Nobody has ever heard a Prince solo-and mistaken it for Jimi Hendrix.
@@PurpleSupernova Copy or inspired by? Let's be honest about it that anyone who plays blues could be said to be copycats. I watched a video of him playing with other famous guitarists on stage. They were jamming together and he was amazing. Didn't sound like Prince as we would recognise him.

To think that this 64" man taught himself to play more than 1000 instruments is mind boggling. He was truly an intellectual musician and business man as well. He didn't just play music; he changed it forever. He truly knew his worth. He was a giant.
In 2007 I experienced Prince at the at the 02 Arena. I still get very emotional thinking about it, it was one of the best nights of my life. He gave his soul to his music, like he gave a piece of himself to each and everyone one of us in the audience.

When music was art and the people accepted nothing less
music has and will always be a form of artistic expression. all perception of art is subjective. i arrived at Prince's performance from a youtube rabbit hole that started at lil Wayne. sort of the dichotomous extreme away from Prince artistically. i have absolutely no issue citing both artists in the same breath for their creativity and quality. they approach the art of music from different places and come up with different compositions, but both are still prolific and inspirational in their own regard. you might as well look at a John Singer Sargent painting, and say "now this is art, and the people who accept Mark Rothko don't know what art is" as for the people, the people have always been artistically illiterate morons and assholes. John Singleton Copley NOW has a square with a fountain, a sculpture of his likeness, and a train station named after him in Boston....and yet in his life, he was disgraced and mocked for his artistic pursuits in the US. he renounced his citizenship, moved to London where he continued a successful career and died there, never coming back stateside. the point of this story is that had he stayed in Boston, he would've drifted into obscurity and there would be no square with a fountain in his honor, and his art wouldn't hang in some of the most important museum galleries in the world. had he stayed in Boston he would've suffered at the hands of the people's artistic illiteracy. while i agree that the digital age has turned art into a disposable commodity, a phenomenon which has diminished the quality of popularity....but the digital age has also given the most visibility and viability towards artists who deserve a working career in the arts who might not have had such opportunities in the same time as this performance. it's not their fault you're too lazy to source them out.
@@tazmon122 you made me think deeply today. Thank you. It is easy to forget that everyone has their own ideas of art and what it means to them. I love Prince and this takes me away to a place that I want to be, but that doesn't negate the importance of others. I will always be a lover of the arts and anything that makes me FEEL anything, whether it is happy, sad, contemplative, confused or pissed off. Anyone willing to put themselves out there is worthy of appreciation by someone. Thank you.
Oh please, every generation has said "Their" music was "art", and everything else isn't. Meanwhile, if you break Purple Rain down into it's component parts the song is literally simplistic at it's core - basic chord progression combined with an extended guitar solo. That's what you call "art"? Meanwhile, us musicians call it a "jam song"
Agreed 💯
Indeed, absolutely
It was March 30th, 1985, Saturday night, me (22 then) and my friends were the usual night out. All night I checked my watch, maybe a hundred times. I would go home earlier than usual that night... Came in my own car, instead of sharing one with my friends. At 04.00AM, RockPalast, a German broadcaster of concerts, would broadcast the Purple Rain tour live from Syracuse... I was so nervous...Left the club at 03.15 and 15 minutes later I was home.. Exactly at 04.00 the connection with NY was made and I was staring at a dark stadium, total silence... After 90-100 seconds it took off... and I was having the best time of my life.. what a show, what a perfection, you could tell he was in charge of every part of the production... Never seen such an amazing live performance... I looked at my watch again, damn... only 20 mins left... But I had not heard the 3, for me, key songs yet... "I would die 4u, Baby, I'm a star and Purple Rain" ... hope he does not skip one of them.. The screen went black and I was in shock, did we lose connection? Then I heard noises from the crowd and Wendy started playing the oh so beautiful starting riff of PR... I was so excited.. then after 3 minutes, Wendy was joined by Himself... beautiful deep dark chords from his Höhner... after a few minutes replaced by Dave Rusan's Cloud guitar..the beginning of what I still consider the best guitar performance in history of music.. All emotions coming out of that guitar went straight through me, I laughed, I cheered, I cried, a lot of the latter... I am witnessing magic, perfection, the best of the best... My God, do I miss him....
Love your story, what an amazing experience you had. He is truly truly missed, even out here in Africa.
Wonderfully stated and I echo your sentiments. For me this is akin to a religious experience and the Apex definitive guitar performance of all time.

Wendy Melvoin was amazing. There are many interviews of her. She was young and so humble. And so amazing.
She was stunning!
She was so young and this chord progression is a fingerbreaker! Prince credited her for coming up with it. The first chord and you know the song and that's because of Wendy Melvoine.
Whenever I listen to purple rain, become emotional. Listening to the guitar 😢
Impossible not to feel it....
I have to chip in. I saw him 4 out of the 5 nights when he toured this album at the LA Forum. He is definitely one of the most unbelievable guitarist EVER!! ❤❤
It’s a lonely cold dark night in January 2024 and this song may save my life tonight
Hey, at least you enjoy music, u r the best

This is above and beyond the pinnacle of stage performance. If any other wonder of music is to be compared to it, it could be maximum equal. There is no way, no way whatsoever, to make stage performance better than this. R.I.P. angel of music 🙏 May God care for eternity you Devine soul 🙏
Been teaching guitar for about 20 years now, anytime I listen to Prince I know I’m hearing greatness.
Ok....
I’ve been playing for like 6 months and I have no clue how he can play that fast, I don’t even think I could play an open string that fast. Much less make anything sound this good
It is true as a guitar genius myself I can say that he is right up there with jack black from white stripes group and maybe Leonard skinner
@@Blake-gs5sq I haven’t met anyone so far who have been playing the guitar for as long as Prince had an expert level
A true genius at his peak. The guitar and vocals in this performance are just absurd. Truly one of a kind.
The music Prince created will live on forever. I Love this unique Man.❤
He feels the music just don't sing it
Who's here in 2024
Absolute masterpiece!
💜💜💜
Almost every day
Hello, I am from Croatia 🇭🇷

Prince had a way to make any guitar sing on its own. Truly mesmerizing 🥰
Just sitting here with mouth open. Didn't move for the last minutes, just got goosebumps all around and tears start to roll. Nearly forgot to swallow and to breathe and was about to drool on the desk. How would you describe something like this to others without sound and video? This is so raw, so passionate, so, well, intimidating because of sheer talent and genius and somehow down to what anything in universe is all about. It's hard to find words for this. So raw, so passionate, so incredible skillful, that it marks and expands somehow the borders of human beings, as no human being could transport that in a ridiculous suit with a ridiculous guitar, but when you are Prince everything falls in place and it feels as natural as it can be. This is way beyond, what any other person I've ever heard of on earth could do. Never seen anything like this and most probably never will. Whoever this strange, little man was: He was much more than a man,., He was Prince. And whatever that is, is more, than we deserved. I feel like every cell of my useless existence is loaded now with his energy. Still. Sometimes he made me think, he is an evolutionary proof of concept of Human 2.0. And although I wrote all this crazy stuff, I still feel speechless. And when I look at this next time, it'll be the same. And again. And again. This will last for ages.
@Aika2212 Danke. Weiss wieder nicht, was ich sagen soll. Fühle mich sehr geehrt.
This is the best comment that I could have read to match this video. It’s the first time I’ve seen this particular Prince performance. Absolutely incredible. The guitar playing is beyond comparison.
Just WOW! I have no words except phenomenal !!!❤
You yourself are amazing... some are... He was... xxx
Aliens visiting this place in millions of years will read this comment and agree
One of the most epic guitar players of our lifetime and so totally underrated. Prince had the ability to make those strings cry an epic melody and I so miss that. True genius.
Perfectly said@DagoSr...Perfectly said.
Prince was too Original to be fully understood. A genius ten times over.
He was definitely so underrated I totally agree

Prince was an amazing singer, composer, instrumentalist, and dancer. A true musical genius.
Not only that, he did some for others. One of them is , Nothing compares to you .
Una melodía xcelente k terapia
Nicht zu übertreffen ❤😊 einfach gigantomanisch
I'm honestly in awe this video doesn't have over a Billion views. It's quite easily one of the top 10 live performances of any single song in recorded history. That man's soul was on display.
I think I viewed that many times, helps me sleep
It probably does, overall. It's had been uploaded and taken down so many times prior to Prince's passing that there is no telling what the real number of views is.
SOUL IS REAL
It's other worldly
i don't know. we will find in one hundred years i think.
17 minute video. 3 minutes of singing. GREATEST VIDEO EVER.
Purple Rain Hits You Straight To Your Heart And Soul 💜💜💜 Prince The Best Singer Ever !!
I'VE NEVER BEEN THIS INVESTED IN GUITAR UNTIL I DISCOVERED THIS VERSION OF PURPLE RAIN
He did not make music, he was music in human form. Glad that Prince stopped by and shared his genius with us for 57 wonderful years.
What a beautiful thing to write about a beautiful person...
I never knew Adolf HItler would be a prince fan. Nice

Best overall complete performer of all time man I miss good concerts old school forever
Agree
I feel in the presence of greatness. We were so lucky to have him.
My goodness! I am 45 yrs of age and am seeing this for the first time in 2022! There are two vocalists here, first Prince and then the guitar. That guitar solo takes this song to a transcendent level. I held it together until minute <a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="604">10:04</a>.....that note just leveled me. I am married, have a wonderful family and kids, great job, no issues at present but that note floored me and still, I can't hold back tears. The power of a transcendent song.
Same, omg….speechless
You know!
No ya didn’t, was the message just to try to tell us you play guitar and then to try to make us believe you kept up for the 1st 10 minutes? Yeah, ur a lier my friend 😂
Bless you... welcome to PRINCE...😍😍🤗
