• Prince because my favorite artist of all time from the first moment I heard his music back in 1980. While I believe he was a good guitarist at first who became great, I don’t think he is the greatest ever. Saying who that really is, is a tough thing to begin with. I think he deserves to be in the conversation again because of how great I think he became over the years.

My sister won tickets to this show on the radio and she chose me to go with her. It was pure magic. There was so much love and emotion in that stadium it was absolutely amazing. There were no wars, no fights, no bickering or arguing amongst anyone, nothing but love... No other artist brought so many people of so many different cultures together like Prince did... @j.clement8476@j.clement8476 Жыл бұрын
    • music has and will always be a form of artistic expression. all perception of art is subjective. i arrived at Prince's performance from a youtube rabbit hole that started at lil Wayne. sort of the dichotomous extreme away from Prince artistically. i have absolutely no issue citing both artists in the same breath for their creativity and quality. they approach the art of music from different places and come up with different compositions, but both are still prolific and inspirational in their own regard. you might as well look at a John Singer Sargent painting, and say "now this is art, and the people who accept Mark Rothko don't know what art is" as for the people, the people have always been artistically illiterate morons and assholes. John Singleton Copley NOW has a square with a fountain, a sculpture of his likeness, and a train station named after him in Boston....and yet in his life, he was disgraced and mocked for his artistic pursuits in the US. he renounced his citizenship, moved to London where he continued a successful career and died there, never coming back stateside. the point of this story is that had he stayed in Boston, he would've drifted into obscurity and there would be no square with a fountain in his honor, and his art wouldn't hang in some of the most important museum galleries in the world. had he stayed in Boston he would've suffered at the hands of the people's artistic illiteracy. while i agree that the digital age has turned art into a disposable commodity, a phenomenon which has diminished the quality of popularity....but the digital age has also given the most visibility and viability towards artists who deserve a working career in the arts who might not have had such opportunities in the same time as this performance. it's not their fault you're too lazy to source them out.

  • It was March 30th, 1985, Saturday night, me (22 then) and my friends were the usual night out. All night I checked my watch, maybe a hundred times. I would go home earlier than usual that night... Came in my own car, instead of sharing one with my friends. At 04.00AM, RockPalast, a German broadcaster of concerts, would broadcast the Purple Rain tour live from Syracuse... I was so nervous...Left the club at 03.15 and 15 minutes later I was home.. Exactly at 04.00 the connection with NY was made and I was staring at a dark stadium, total silence... After 90-100 seconds it took off... and I was having the best time of my life.. what a show, what a perfection, you could tell he was in charge of every part of the production... Never seen such an amazing live performance... I looked at my watch again, damn... only 20 mins left... But I had not heard the 3, for me, key songs yet... "I would die 4u, Baby, I'm a star and Purple Rain" ... hope he does not skip one of them.. The screen went black and I was in shock, did we lose connection? Then I heard noises from the crowd and Wendy started playing the oh so beautiful starting riff of PR... I was so excited.. then after 3 minutes, Wendy was joined by Himself... beautiful deep dark chords from his Höhner... after a few minutes replaced by Dave Rusan's Cloud guitar..the beginning of what I still consider the best guitar performance in history of music.. All emotions coming out of that guitar went straight through me, I laughed, I cheered, I cried, a lot of the latter... I am witnessing magic, perfection, the best of the best... My God, do I miss him....

  • Just sitting here with mouth open. Didn't move for the last minutes, just got goosebumps all around and tears start to roll. Nearly forgot to swallow and to breathe and was about to drool on the desk. How would you describe something like this to others without sound and video? This is so raw, so passionate, so, well, intimidating because of sheer talent and genius and somehow down to what anything in universe is all about. It's hard to find words for this. So raw, so passionate, so incredible skillful, that it marks and expands somehow the borders of human beings, as no human being could transport that in a ridiculous suit with a ridiculous guitar, but when you are Prince everything falls in place and it feels as natural as it can be. This is way beyond, what any other person I've ever heard of on earth could do. Never seen anything like this and most probably never will. Whoever this strange, little man was: He was much more than a man,., He was Prince. And whatever that is, is more, than we deserved. I feel like every cell of my useless existence is loaded now with his energy. Still. Sometimes he made me think, he is an evolutionary proof of concept of Human 2.0. And although I wrote all this crazy stuff, I still feel speechless. And when I look at this next time, it'll be the same. And again. And again. This will last for ages.

That guitar solo takes this song to a transcendent level. I held it together until minute 10:04.....that note just leveled me. I am married, have a wonderful family and kids, great job, no issues at present but that note floored me and still, I can't hold back tears. The power of a transcendent song.
