Led Zeppelin formed in 1968 and went on to become one of the most influential, innovative, and successful groups in modern music, having sold more than 300 million albums worldwide. The band rose from the ashes of The Yardbirds, when Jimmy Page brought in John Bonham, John Paul Jones, and Robert Plant to tour as The New Yardbirds. In 1969, Led Zeppelin released its self-titled debut which was produced by Page, as were all the subsequent albums. It marked the beginning of a 12-year reign, during which the group was widely considered to be the biggest and most innovative rock band in the world.
In 1974 at a youth club dance i met a 16yo girl, asked her to dance to "Stairway to Heaven" I was 17yo. We celebrate our 46th wedding anniversary this year. The lyrics hang on our lounge room wall still today. LOVE IT.

8 minute song probably helped build that initial connection. Today songs are less than 3 minutes and all about booty dancing so no chance of emotionally connecting with another human.
I'm trying to master the tambourine solo...
I was in this concert in 1975. I had arrived in London in 1972 to study business. It was an incredible concert from which I clearly remember three things: Jimmy Page's magnificent solo guitar in Starway to Heaven, Robert Plant singing bare chest at maximum potency, and the strong weed smell throughout the concert. I was 24 at that time and what a wonderful experience this was: It will live on my mind forever.
Beautifully said. We are the same age. I graduated from Michigan State University in June 1973. I bet you hear this not just in your mind, but in your heart & soul.

Jimmy Paige‘s Guitar Solo is out of this world.
And Bonham ❤
Jimmy broke a string at 8:36 and kept rocking just like that. Ridiculously good ZoSo
Simplemente epico!!❤
How do you mean that? This is virtually the worst solo he ever played to that song. He obviously has no genuine ideas but recycles microphrases from former performances. He occasionally is out of rhythm - and not in a good way. Overall, it makes me wish he would just stop. Don't get me wrong: I love Zep, and I love this song. But compare this to the solo he played at Madison Square Garden, maybe you get what I am talking about.
imo this is improvisation and creativity. I think if you only care about execution Jimmy is not the right one for you. Nowadays there are a lot of good executors and a few good composers. I get that you love led zeppelin but art is different than a sport game. He always use licks in this solo but it is really different than tsrt or bbc for example.

This was one of my great grandma’s favorite songs. She passed away very recently at age 78. She and Jimmy Page share the exact same birthday. I love and miss you Gram, and thank you Led Zeppelin for this timeless Masterpiece. My best wishes to Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones, and we miss you Bonzo 💕
Me adiero a sus palabras.
Hi Son, I'm a Great grandpa of the same vintage as your Grandma. I'm so happy to hear she was also a fan of Led Zep.. Our generation, although some broke a few of the old school rules, we really had a hoot in our silk shirts, our gold chains, mini skirts, platform shoes. We blew the top off the Discos, grooved all night, all over town to Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin' and any other music that took us through to 5am next morning. I Don't regret a second of it, that is until my Grandchildren and my Great Grand children see the photos at my funeral. It was time to break free of old people's rules and be free but trying not to be disrespecting of the elders. Although they thought we were weird, we weren't, we were just different and a little bit noisy.

unless Led Zeppelin is drunk and on drugs at the 1973 old Braves Stadium in Atlanta. Sounded NOTHING like their albums and 2/3's left before the halfway mark. SLOPPY, people on the field got crushed and when we left, we were robbed at gunpoint.
If you understand the functioning of our society in the "west" you understand that the song "stairway to heaven " has a deeper meaning. And is a equivalent for the function of them, the same computers, AI and people. Just different society circumstances. Then the communicaion was different but the fundamentals under it were and are exactly the same. It is the challenge to see and understand that what will set us really free here and not only when we go the last "stairway".
When these guys were 'happening', I was not yet 'awake'.....now I am. Better late than never. I'm 87 and grateful!!!!

This song is so unique. I just wanna say that it just doesn't belongs only to the 70's when it was created, but also to all era, even nowadays, it still belongs. It's timeless, precisely. You can be 20 today, or in your 30's, or 40's, or late 50's early 70's, I bet this song still feel the same as it was back then. I can't describe it for any of you, but everytime i listen to it, i feel as if the world around me just stop in silence, and everything is ignored, which is fine, for this song is being born, raise and lives in you. Everytime i play it, it was a new breath of life, and I will find something new from it. You will learn something from it, and it's only made by 4 people whose in their early 20's. It's not perfect, but nothing is, and it's a beauty that stays forever, when the others just gone...

I was at the Atlanta Concert in 1973. We were on the field at the old Braves stadium. They were drunk and on drugs and sounded Nothing like their albums. I was caught in a crush of pushing. I finally made it out and found a small area to lay down in. I was looking at the sky and trying to breathe. All of a sudden they played (horribly) "Stairway to Heaven". I looked at the sky and said, "Oh, God. I've died and gone to hell." LOL.....More than 2/3 of the stadium left including us. Then while getting in our car we were robbed at gunpoint!!!!!! Needless to say.... the worst concert of my life and I've been to more than 300! Rolling Stones (Twice), Elvis (Twice) Lynard Synard (5 times) Eric Clapton (three times) Eagles (Four times) Jackson Browne (Eight times), Springsteen (twice), and Jim Morrison (once) and Janis Joplan(once) were my favorites. Lyrics There's a lady who's sure All that glitters is gold And she's buying a stairway to heaven When she gets there she knows If the stores are all closed With a word she can get what she came for Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh And she's buying a stairway to heaven There's a sign on the wall But she wants to be sure 'Cause you know, sometimes words have two meanings In a tree by the brook There's a songbird who sings Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven Ooh, it makes me wonder Ooh, it makes me wonder There's a feeling I get When I look to the west And my spirit is crying for leaving In my thoughts I have seen Rings of smoke through the trees And the voices of those who stand looking Ooh, it makes me wonder Ooh, it really makes me wonder And it's whispered that soon If we all call the tune Then the piper will lead us to reason And a new day will dawn For those who stand long And the forests will echo with laughter Oh whoa-whoa-whoa, oh-oh If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed now It's just a spring clean for the May Queen Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run And there's still time to change the road you're on And it makes me wonder Oh, whoa Your head is humming and it won't go In case you don't know The piper's calling you to join him Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow? And did you know Your stairway lies on the whispering wind? And as we wind on down the road Our shadows taller than our soul There walks a lady we all know Who shines white light and wants to show How everything still turns to gold And if you listen very hard The tune will come to you at last When all are one and one is all, yeah To be a rock and not to roll And she's buying a stairway to heaven Source
Does anyone remember laughter..

Happy to have lived during a time when so much great music was made!
I second that!
Absolutely 💯, and we could get out and enjoy them a lot easier than today's world can. Much more free spirited then. I feel for the kids today.
Yeah! You are the luckiest ones who saw the Led Zeppelin when they were very young! I wanted to see them young but now it's too late! I saw them til when they were in their 70's! 😊
Masterpiece song with two legends never to be forgotten!!!! Actually the entire band!!!

Es gibt nichts besseres. Es war das beste aller Zeiten, sowohl musikalisch, wie politisch
I was a kid in the seventies. I was twelve years old when Bonzo died.
Me too ! Rocks were truely rock music then. Muscle cars were true muscle cars ! Gasoline was only 69 cent/gallon. Was crusing all nite in my camara 427 w/ Led zep blazing ! Really missed those days !
There are good songs, there are excellent songs, there are top songs.... and then there is Stairway to Heaven. That's all.

Notice how the youtube most replayed for precise seeking doesnt have a peak because everybody listens to the whole song. Faith in humanity in these dark times restored at the moment.
Brings me back to when I started my life with my husband, David. This is one of my favorites songs. 63 yrs. Old, 3 kids, 4 grandchildren and still enjoy it.
A real masterpiece👏 I wasn't even born when this concert was, and I wish I could go back in time to see this concert and many other. I wish I could be in that times a teenager to see the best musicians that do the best music in the world I would like to see the flowering of the best music in the world
I was born in 1970! I’ve been listening to them all my life!!!
Probably the greatest live performance of one of the greatest musicians of all time. Just amazing.
