    • Don't be that sad about it, dude. The An-225 T-1 airplane that got destroyed inside its hangar, in early this year of 2022; was the reserve airplane, for crew retraining and spare parts support, of the flight operations of the An-225 T-2 airplane. A bit like in this mid April, when the the Moskva K-5 battle cruiser sunk; that in fact used to be a simplified battle cruiser crew retraining ship, in direct support cast to the Moskva K-7 battle cruiser, naval defense operations. Then through that devious way, most of the staff involved in the operation and maintenance of those two colossus of the Terra modern engineering; can finally follow their path into their already earned opportunity to civi-retire and also to have to start tolerating most of those outside courtyard flies, as well.

    • I'm 99% sure that once that war ends; the An 225 being discussed will be put back in service, especially there' another airframe handy. And it would NOT surprise me to see a fleet of those birds built from scratch; albeit with newer avionics, engines, etc.

      @piercehawke8021@piercehawke80212 жыл бұрын
    • @@piercehawke8021 that building was probably damaged, since it most likely was hit by artillery fire. I think the second frame and parts didn't survive, since there is no news or footage about the second frame and structure that housed it. Only way to rebuild the 225 is to get out the old blueprints and restart an entire production line from scratch, which would cost way more than 3 billion to do so, around 6-7 billion since they would have to build new parts, unless they cannibalize 124s for the job. Most likely Antonov will just take parts from one to save costs, since even with the money, it would take years, if not decades to train new people to build soviet aircraft from scratch, before adding new modernization equipment. I do not believe there are enough Soviet-era engineers alive or fit for work to even start working, on top of the fact that the main building that housed the key data including servers most likely housing blueprints and instructions to other important documents regarding building the airplane probably disappearing (that place was also most likely attacked/destroyed by the attacks). I am not sure if physical copies of the blueprints survived or not, hopefully they did.

  • having worked in the insurance industry before... i have 2 questions... 1) what was the 225's utilisation & condition before the destruction? ... the airframe is no spring chicken anymore. its also very very thirsty. 2) what was its insurance value for loss & will there be a claim? always follow the money trail. have seen claims before where planes were deliberately put in a position that increased their possibility of loss to get a payout. not saying that was what happened, but i expect there is still more to come to light. the request for $300m in funding to get the 2nd an225 up in the air is also a waste of time. still though people sending money for managers pockets is always a nice bonus. if antanov really wanted to do something good. get a few An70 up and running. thats actually a very good transporter.

    • The war is suspicious - the fate of the AN225 not. I as a small business owner, of course, I watch out not to get my company car scratched - because it is mine and I'd have to pay to fix it. Or I'd be responsible to my investors. Antonov is a government owned company. The management does not care because they have their posts due to linkage with government officials who do not care either. Their only concern is to take out as much ressources from the company as possible. And then they flew to the west with their families and left the company behind - not their business. This is not specific too much to Ukraine - it is government companies. But Antonov is a sad example: for many years they haven't been able to produce a single new aircraft - though they have quite a few nice models which have a market in the world and could sell very well.

Dmitro said he had met Evgeny Gavrilov (the new head of Antonov SE) and there had been a tragic lack of support from the previous management which resulted in the loss of AN225 and many other Aircraft at Gostomel Airport. Very sad to see such wanton destruction by the wretched Russian forces at both Gostomel, and the offices of Antonov where much Antonov materials were stolen also. • That's a great explanation and also an excellent example of a complete lack of independent thinking in a critical situation. I must be some kind of Cowboy because if the crew was ready to go, I would have taken the initiative. I'd rather save the plane and ask for forgiveness than see it damaged, but that's just me

  • It's so depressing. I got to see the 225 at Aerospace America in Oklahoma City in 1990. I hope to see it back one day. Maybe they'll sell unrecoverable pieces of the destroyed one to help finance the rebuild?

  • Even with "management" fleeing the country without regard for anything but their own safety, it is a shame that a senior qualified pilot didn't tell the assembled crew to board the aircraft and then fly it and themselves to safety. History is full of events where the actions of one person made a difference in the outcome of a event. I had just heard of this aircraft just prior to the war breaking out. Then to see it destroyed was just heart breaking.

  • Why not just do the rebuild anyway and send the bill to Russia? Maybe selling the destroyed bits of the Mriya after cleaning them to fans could be a interesting start to raise funds to hopefully build a second 225 if the plans are still around. So instead of sending it to the scrappers, why not dismantle the remaining bits of Mriya and sell them. I'd definitely be interested in buying the number 225 or a cockpit window frame myself.

    • Dude, it's been build by russians in the first place. Maybe russians should send the bill to ukr for using it commercially for 30+ years? lol

  • I hope when Myra is rebuilt those 6 ancient D18t's can be replaced with 4 GE9X's this allow for more power ( almost a 50 % increase), increased capacity, greater range (30%+ increase) and lower operating costs (approx 40% decrease). This will allow for higher profits, increased availability, lower operating costs, and lower cost to customers. It may make Myra profitable enough to make building a 3rd one viable.
