My name is Denys, and I am Boeing 737 Captain. Before I used to fly ATR 42/72.

Don't give up you'll get there in the end my friend. Whatever you do don't become a truck driver!!! I was a photographer on cruise ships before being a trucker. I would go back tomorrow if I could? You're young and the perfect age to start but don't deviate from what you want to do. I would love to fly helicopters but I'm too old now. SO DON'T GIVE UP THIS IS YOUR BIG CHANCE MY FRIEND 👍

@@richardwoad6477 It's a wise advise. Ironically I want to become a pilot and I wanted to be a truck driver. I was about to do my license procedures but hopefully I've met some real truckers and now I see why you say it sucks. And also my pilot career seems to be an eternal dream because of the money issue. I wasted my better years for studying and working where I didn't belong. However aviation is in my heart since childhood. Hope this guy @gosherkerr9563 will make his dream come true without wasting his time on worthless activities.

Why don't you become a flight school instructor? That way you could still do a bit of flying, and help other people enjoy flying. Plus I think you get to choose your own schedule.
Hi, I am semi-retired as I am (73). When I started flying in 1967, as everyone else, I started on fixed-wing. My first commercial job was a co-pilot on a single engine Otter on floats. We were flying hunters in and out of Northern Canada's bush. I hated it. That fall I got my rotary-wing endorsement flew an additional 50 hours under the training contract and had my first rotary-wing job the next Spring. Most of the helicopter companies I worked for had a company fixed-wing aircraft so when that pilot went on holiday or was ill, I flew the fixed-wing. I also got my instructor rating on fixed-wing. Near the end of my career I was flying to offshore oil rigs in Argentina. My suggestion would be to get a rotary-wing endorsement as there are more helicopter opportunities then fixed-wing. I did my CPL-A because while there are is a certain amount of rotary wing-jobs, there are no where near as many jobs in the heli-industry as it is in fixed wing. The reason for this is that helicopters are almost exclusively flown SIC (except for those under EASA-CAT ops. requirement operating offshore flights/IFR/ALLSAR regardless of seats). Not only that, but The Heli-industrial complex is disillusioned. They pay at a rate far worse than commercial fixed wing, especially in aerial work in The EU. I know the market in the USA pays better in general and have way more jobs then we do here, but even then you are looking at average salaries that are far below that of fixed wing operators on average. An SIC H125 HESLO4-rated pilot in Norway maxes out at about 62000 USD/year. Thats the ceiling! In comparison, a F/O starts out at about that rate and will only see an increase. Of course, if you land a job in The Offshore-industry, you will be compensated just as well as fixed wing pilots, but the amount of jobs in The Offshore industry are extremely few and far in between compared to fixed wing.
I have big respect for guys like this. Story about working as courier even makes you respect more - it shows you're not a snob. We need more people like you. Hope to see more videos from you and you be able to do things you love. Take care!
To be unshackled from 'the daily grind' is something we all long for and almost always only reach when we retire, after many years on the grind. It's fantastic that you have found something that's very close to that while you're relatively young and in good health. Wishing you all the best.

@vince8701 I have a genuine question. Do airlines prefer a pilot with a BSc degree or not ? Or does it depend on the airline? I've heard that having a degree gives you an upper hand but shouldn't they look for talent and skills ?
Youre right a degree isnt required you dont need a degree but you may need more experience as a pilot in a low paying pilot job if you dont have one.
@@vince8701 i am an aspiring pilot and i really don't know what to choose. Degree is beneficial but that'll mean studying every subject altogether which can be a bit overwhelming. I just want the pro and cons from someone experienced, everyone has a difference of opinion and i feel kinda lost

I stopped as an airline pilot three years ago, age 57 when my airline went bust. I watch your Ukraine channel everyday, because I can relate to you. As an airline pilot you are logical, structured, fair, realistic. (all the CRM courses!) I guess you will take that with you.
Denys, I love these videos that show us the real you. You have lived through a lot, my man. You should be proud. Whatever you do in the future, I know you will be successful because you have the right attitude. Keep trying new things. In your later years, you will reflect on all your experiences and I think you will be happy. You are a great guy and I always look forward to your videos on all your channels.
You were a huge inspiration for me and probably many other young teenagers who aspire to become airline pilots. I really loved your POV videos it taught me alot about how a pilot operates and communicates on the flight deck. Truly a unique type of entertainment you dont see alot on the KZhead platform. Hey Captain. You were one of the first people I met when I met aviation. But you know "once an aviator, always an aviator" I mean just look at how you are very attentive the aircrafts passing by while filming, you're even able to identify their model names......that's really cool. Which ever career you're going to I'm sure what you learnt in your commercial career will always help.

Denys, I watch your Pilot Blog and Ukraine videos and I believe your command of English is good enough to work for airlines in any English speaking countrie, such as here in Ireland, the UK or USA and others. I know you're a 737 pilot but I'm sure you would have no problem getting an A320 family type rating that Aer Lingus fly. I would feel very safe fl ying on your plane. I agree with you, airlines are not really a good job all the time. When your hobby starts dependably paying the same or more than your day job, it's time to quit the day job. Do what makes you and your family happy!
You are one of the personalities that I am into aviation. You showed me the beauty of aviation and I will never forget it. What a legend!
I was flying Caravans for a Part 135 airline in the U.S. until the pandemic put the company out of business. A shame, because it was a great place to work and the passengers were very appreciative of our efforts. I was 67 at the time, had been a captain there for six years and already thinking of retiring, so the timing was good for me because I was getting really run down and was able to get back in shape again. Good luck Denys, once a pilot always a pilot. The war won't last forever and you're still young. And yeah, non pilots see only the uniform, the cool airplane and good pay, but they don't see the stress, responsibility and the effect that has on one's mental and physical condition.
I totally understand everything you expressed. Airline flying will mess your life up for sure. I think you have a high degree of self discipline and motivation to pivot to KZhead. I’m on a layover at 3am watching…went back to flying after three years as a bus driver during Covid. Happy to be back because I sucked at bus driving🤣

I follow you on your main channel and now on this one too. I am 82 years old but in my mid 50's learnt to fly in a PA28 Piper Warrior. Did my 1st solo at the end of the 10th hour of lessons. Good luck with your future and regards Michael
I left the career in 2018 for almost the same reasons. I miss flying so bad, but the freedom of my schedule is priceless
Really enjoyed your informative video on why you left commercial aviation for a KZhead life. I watched many of your pilot videos and was always impressed with your knowledge of aviation. In this life you have to follow your dreams because you only get one chance at happiness! You can always return to aviation if you so choose . Good luck my friend!

I was a flight instructor for many years and one fine day I quit from second to another and never regret. Flying is the best thing but not everything :) Take your time to find the solution

I was a coast guard pilot flying for 17 years in ISR and multiple other missions. I completely understand you. Sometimes it’s better to know when to stop. I sure miss flying a lot but stress,fatigue,risk and all other restrictions in a pilot life make me say that i did the right thing to stop flying. Cheers ,enjoy your family and do what pleases you more. 😊

Good decision Denys. Glider flying is great fun, especially when trying to achieve long distance return trips eg 200km where you take photos of prearranged way points to prove that you got there. Huge amount of skill needed to do that as you also need to read the weather ahead, that’s real aviation. I watch your main channel every morning first thing, please keep those updates coming everyday. Slava Ukraini.

My dad flew lots of missions, but only private contracts after the military. I am glad you are doing what is important to you. His commercial pilot's license was 1717.

I know exactly what you’re talking about. I was working in a wearhouse and in a supermarket one year ago. I was earning good however I was always stressed, tired and become mentally exhausted. Then I saw an advert as a freelance delivery driver and I took it, the flexibility, control and freedom I have now is unmatched with anything else I have ever and probably ever will feel. I can do whatever I like whenever i want, I’m free. The taste of freedom have changed my perspective on life, more happy. I love that I also see more people doing it! We are meant to be our own bosses!

I had been flying GA for 17 years, when last year the company went tits-up. This year I have only flown sporadically, for a private operator on a very nice KingAir. But,...the further away I get from the daily grind of flying, the less I miss it. The last few years of flying, it really started to get to me, and I was cranky the last off-day before a new work period. I was fed up with being away, and fed up with hotels. I should tell you this: we had very nice trips and very good hotels and where well paid, but...there's no place like home, and to see your kids every day. Unless I can get a nice job on the Learjet again, I'm going to let it slide.... Blue skies!! All the best to you Denys!, and to all other aviators, whether student or seasoned veteran.
Thank you Denys for letting us know about your story in aviation. I think it is a good idea to take a break even if it is only for a year because you know that once you start working again, it is non-stop. The employers are not too worried on pilots well being or safety of the operation because pilots are not well rested. I do really wish you can make a living out of your YT Channel. I feel your pain. I flew for 13 airlines, including four majors like Pan Am, United, Continental. I went through many furloughs and airline bankruptcies. I know exactly what you are talking about, including the crazy hours and fatigue. The last few years have been good for pilots in the US, but that is an anomaly and will not last. It's hard to explain to people not in the business what it is like, but trust me, I understand. I am free now only because I was forced to retire after 36 years of airline flying. I flew the Airbus A-300, DC-9, DC-8, Boeing 727, and Boeing 737. I was not as smart as you, and I never quit. I sure did pay for that - it was a grind until the end. I'm just glad I survived it. Interesting video. Your Ukraine blog is very important, keeping us informed, boosting support for the war effort abroad, and countering misinformation. I hope you continue in this career, at least until the end of the war. I still think it's worthwhile keeping your training and contacts going for if, or when, you return to commercial flying.

Partly sad news, quit piloting the big birds, but I buy the arguments You told. Sad that Ukraine looks like a developing country regarding commercial aviation. Was once a private pilot. A new house to pay and an illness making air time collecting impossible, the license was dropped. Being a civil engineer, getting burned out... Jumping into bus driving... Being haunted by a terrible work load, schedules giving no time for recreation, abandoning that.... Retiring early to have time for veteran train driving released a lot of pressure. Discovering the charm of flying using drones life has an interesting content. Life brings changes for some of us.... Whish You the best Dennis! T U.

Once that passion gets into your blood, everything with wings on it becomes part of the fascination. On the other side of the room from me right now is a giant scale balsa wood model of a Corsair airplane that I need to generate some workspace for so that I can begin on the kit 🤔 With a modern R/C system it ought to fly well

I feel you. I worked jobs were I traveled all week. Woke up and did not know what city I was in at times. Hotel room beds are killers. Then I worked different shifts and worked at night and back to daytime. High pressure service tech job. Go with your feelings.
