    • There are anecdotes of Prince's guitar skills on youtube but outside of While My Guitar Gently Weeps what legit Prince songs display true guitar skills? I view Prince as I do Keith Urban and John Mayer. Supposedly great guitarists who made music contrary to their real skills. One may make claims of "selling out" because all three never truly made music that showcased their real guitar skills. Many of their songs appealed to the mass produced pop genre to gain notoriety. My true opinion that is subject to change when legit evidence proves contrary.

As a 2000s boy I'd never heard anything like that before, and I likely won't hear anything like it again. I was actually hit hard with the news of Prince's death three years later. In my opinion Prince was far more talented than MJ... Prince mastered more than 20 instruments and he had the Revolution (Wendy Lisa the doctor to name a few). I was very young when MJ became the king of pop and for Prince's peak of popularity so I am not an expert, however Prince's music stands the test of time for me and I was crushed to learn of his death. I am not a pop music fan necessarily I love punk rock mostly... Prince seems to have a punk edge

      @Harcorwrestler@Harcorwrestler5 жыл бұрын
    • @Jamie I think you and Doves That Cry both have valid points. There is great music today; it just doesn't get heard. Like you said, you have to search for it. There was great underground music in the 80s too of course, some of which later became mainstream, but I think Doves point may be that even a lot of the so called 'pop' music of the 80s was great, enduring music. You really do have to seek and find the good music being made today, vs. the 80s and 90s where the good music was often also the popular music. All the good stuff has gone back underground now and all the crap rules. At least back then the good got the same exposure as the crap lol.

  • I saw Prince live when Purple Rain came out. Actually I saw him live in Minnesota over Christmas. He played 9 concerts here over the week of Christmas. My friends and I got into 7 of them-ONE ON CHRISTMAS DAY! One of the concerts-I was able to witness the most amazing thing you could ever want to see. At the end of one of the greatest concerts we have ever had the privilege of being in the presence of, Prince came back on stage to sing Purple Rain. I think that last song went on for more then 45 minutes! When it got to the end part of the song-the arena exploded with voices singing for him! It was so amazing-there is no way to put it into words to accurately describe it. It went on and on and he fell to the ground and cried while everyone sang TO him. By the time it all ended there was NO ONE in that arena that wasn't crying. as we walked out to our vehicles-everyone that you looked at was still crying. There was no usual "after concert" excitement or talking and laughing, all you could hear and see were people crying. And in case you misunderstand, it wasn't sad crying- it was the kind of crying when you are so deeply involved in something that all your emotions come out in tears. Watching him FEEL the whole arena singing TO him was the most amazing sight and feeling I have ever felt. I will never forgot those moments in time! I still feel like this day was yesturday! Everytime I hear this song-I zone out and can remember and feel every moment!
