I think history will tell Prince was the most literal guitar hero of his time. And perhaps many decades forward. I'm saying Prince is shoulder to shoulder to Debussy/Chopin/Purcell/and the rest.

catalina I love Prince. But, he seemed to give his very best performances when he knew he had a huge audience and knew he was being filmed. Not every concert was a long concert. I saw him in Tacoma in 2011 and the concert that night was barely 90 minutes long with one encore. He was human and he could of had an off night that, I guess
Well, to be fair, Bruce Springsteen will stretch out a concert as long as the audience wants, too. :)
Absolute genius, but to anyone who ever went to a paisley park party, you knew you might get 4 hours or 4 minutes. He was human, depended on the night.

I saw Prince back in 2004 or 2005 in what was the Meadowlands in New Jersey. He had no opening act and did 3 sets, with the second set being acoustic, just Prince and a guitar. He was truly amazing to see. And everyone in attendance was given his latest full CD at the time upon entry. Always a class act.
Prince will go down as the Mozart of our era!!!!!

I mean MJ died 13 years ago. But he was very vibrant and aged well too. He just had other issues hurting his health
I've seen all the gigs in my 49 years but seeing Prince live about 10 years ago was the best one ever.

Same here ! Saw him at Ahoy in Rotterdam in the summer of 2011. Awsome concert with mostly funky stuff from his early days.
He played the same songs for over 30 years and no one ever got tired of it Thats how you know he had class

Robert Casey Gault Jr. Saw them at the Pyramid in Memphis in 2004. In the round. No opener and he played for 3 hours...Acoustic set...You name it. Left there feeling like I played the gig. John Blackwell was a freak

That’s the comment I came to see. JBJ was a monster player that didn’t get near enough credit. Fitting he played for Prince, who also didn’t get enough credit for his playing. Both gone far too soon.

Every time that I watch this cat I'm almost moved to tears. He loved music and performing so much, and he was full of life as a result of this. This was an amazing performance! That guitar solo was fuckin' phenomenal! PRINCE was one the greatest guitar players in music history! I would put him second after the great JIMI HENDRIX on my top 50 listing of guitar legends.
Got the honour of seeing Prince six times. Money well spent. Beautiful man who made the world stop and listen

One of the most underrated guitar player
It was a privilege growing up as a teenager in the 80s. We may be getting older and many our icons are gone but we got to experience the likes of Prince, MJ, run DMC and awesome hairbands. Compared to the computer generated crap today I say we were the lucky ones! Music is vessel that takes you back to a time, place or event. What a vessel we as children of the 80s have!

Let’s get this straight right now. Prince was a very good entertainer and had a good voice. He also had a huge stage presents with very talented dancers and back of musicians with another guitar player who Prince stated was better than himself. Prince was not a great guitar player. He admitted that himself.

@@philbartlett395 Clapton was a great musician. Rated 53rd on the list of the greatest guitarists. It was Clapton’s voice and what musicians he surrounded himself with that made him great. He also wrote some great tunes.

I think the audience was in awe of Prince not snubing him at all. Billy Gibbons of ZZ TOP said he couldn't believe his eyes when as he watched Prince perform. Play the WHOLE set. It was killer. Sign O’ The Times, Lets Go Crazy, Soul Man/Kiss. That set was better than the While My Guitar Gently Weeps portion, imho. It doesn’t get much mention though. Only Prince can outshine Prince. 😂
I didn't know prince had performed by himself besides the "my guitar gently weeps " segment. His guitar solo on " My guitar gently weeps" has got to be one of the most iconic moments in rock n roll and pop music history.

Prince is one of the greatest guitar players of all time and the fact it isn’t talked about enough is a crime
He wanted to be Hendrix or Page . And he was right there.
In my opinion the so called people who make these decision on who is the best guitar players opinion don't really matter, it's the fans and record, concerts sales, longevity is what really matters. Even in death he is still the greatest and his fans say so, that is better cause if he was alive today, his concerts would be packed out.

My first and only concert was Prince back in 1979 when i was a teenager, Teena Marie opened for him.
