{Don't worry, I won't hurt you
I only want you to have some fun}
I was dreamin' when I wrote this, forgive me if it goes astray
But when I woke up this mornin', could've sworn it was judgment day
The sky was all purple, there were people runnin' everywhere
Tryin' to run from the destruction, you know I didn't even care
Say say two thousand zero zero party over, oops, out of time
So tonight I'm gonna party like it's nineteen ninety-nine
I was dreamin' when I wrote this, so sue me if I go too fast
But life is just a party and parties weren't meant to last
War is all around us, my mind says prepare to fight
So if I gotta die I'm gonna listen to my body tonight
Yeah hey, they say two thousand zero zero party over, oops, out of time
So tonight I'm gonna party like it's nineteen ninety-nine
Yeah, yeah, hey

@uiuiui It was because of the way dates were stored in computers. All programs had to be fixed to handle the change from '19' to '20'. I was in IT at the time and most of my coworkers had to be at work at midnight Dec 31 because they thought everything might crash. My system wasn't running at the time so I got to party! Prince did not "define" the 80s. The 80s was the most commercial decade in music history and was defined by a group of artists. If by popularity alone, most experts would say Michael Jackson defined the 80s, in the same way that Elton John defined the 70s, the Beatles defined the 60s, and Elvis defined the 50s. Doesn't take away from Prince's impact, but let's call it like it was.

I listen to a little bit of everything, but the pop, rock, alternative scene of the 80s was the greatest. Sadly most of the performers that made it great are no longer with us, and that's genre general. I'm a huge fan of the Outlaw movement in country music of that same time frame and outside of Willie Nelson, Hank Jr, and David Allen Coe they have all left this world behind. Jones said it best, "Still I wonder, who's gonna fill their shoes?" Prince, the Van Zants of Lynnyrd Skynnyrd, Freddie Mercury,Tina Turner, Michael Jackson, Waylon, Haggard and countless others who not only gave us music, but the soundtrack to our lives.
