For the first time in the cinematic history of Spider-Man, our friendly neighborhood hero's identity is revealed, bringing his Super Hero responsibilities into conflict with his normal life and putting those he cares about most at risk. When he enlists Doctor Strange’s help to restore his secret, the spell tears a hole in their world, releasing the most powerful villains who’ve ever fought a Spider-Man in any universe. Now, Peter will have to overcome his greatest challenge yet, which will not only forever alter his own future but the future of the Multiverse.

  • 5:55 I love how as soon as Norman is cured, you can see how horrified he is about what he did. You can just hear the regret and sadness in his voice. Once again, William Dafoe absolutely nailed it.

    • This was something I just noticed and is a really special detail. Norman is surprised seeing Peter standing over him and the way he says Peter and his face say it all the he looks down and sees Tobey to his horror and it finally hits him in such a way that truly shows he has no idea or control of what happens when the goblin is in control. So scary and sad. Dafoe is a master actor!

You can tell how Peter feels when you see him play dirty. He outright cheats and recklessly attacks the goblin. The way he slammed the bomb into the glider to force him into land and then using the webs to restrain him so he wouldn't fight back and the overall aggressiveness, combined with the ominous music is something I still remember having me thrilled in the theater.

  • This scene is so powerful for a number of different reasons, cause not only is Tobey trying to stop Tom from crossing the line where vengeance can destroy who you are as a person. But I also think saving Norman/Goblin was Tobey's way of making it up to his late best friend; Harry and was honouring him in a sense. Back in his universe, Norman/Goblin died from being killed by his own glider after he attempted to kill Tobey and Harry blamed him for it which changed their friendship forever. Now not only does Tobey have the opportunity to stop it from happening again, but this time he is stopping an alternative version of himself who ACTUALLY wanted to kill him.

    @jamaljames9331@jamaljames93317 ай бұрын
  • That ending fight gets me every time... In the condo, Peter was still a boy/teen: full of childlike hope and even the way he fights, you're made to feel like he's out of his league or depth. Yes, he's dealt with loss and evil before, but that evil is not completely directed at him - this is different. He's stunned by what it feels like when it is and when it's that powerful (when Goblin just laughs as he's being punched, Peter pauses for a moment in shock). Losing May is the turning point (as it always is). The child/teen is gone. He doesn't think he can kill Goblin. He will kill him. Having great or enough power isn't even a question anymore. Then he is stopped, with all that rage still built up. You can feel the lack of resolution for a moment while he struggles against Tobey. But Tobey stopping him doesn't turn him back into the kid again. It shows him a way to live as a man without the need for vengeance, a way to be that powerful, to know he is that powerful, and to finally understand what it means: "with great power comes great responsibility." Just brilliant ❤

  • What I love the most about this scene/s is how each of the three Peters have redemption (big or small) and how they all had importance (and definitely NOT as a “hi, we’re here, bye we’re gone” cameos). Peter 3 was able to rewrite his traumatic history and rest easier, knowing he had a second chance to do so as well as prevent his younger brother to experience what he did. The second chance he wished he always could have and finally got. Peter 2 finally got to save Norman, which I think is pretty clear that it was always on the back of his mind (especially when we see him talk about making a cure) that he felt responsible. His success in the end happened because of his second chance to redeem himself. And then Peter 1 was able to finally be free from his rage and be reminded that “it’s what we do” to not go ahead and take a life. That we always have a choice to do right from wrong and have that responsibility. In the end, he was free from revenge and like Peter 2, he finally saved Norman and himself. All because he had a second chance. Say what you will about NWH, but I think the central theme of second chances, redemption and responsibility is really where the film shines most and succeeded imo. Such damn beautiful and deserving ties to the three boys and their stories (for now at least).

He simply realized that revenge isn't the answer, because he didn't feel any better after the carjacker was dead. Ben was still gone and it still hurt like hell. He knew Peter 1 would still feel the pain of May's loss, but also an additional feeling of guilt for killing Norman that would eat away at him. • Peter Two’s eyes when he’s holding Peter One back from killing the Goblin continue to haunt me. The compassion and understanding of Peter One’s mindset in this moment, because he’s been there: “I wanted him dead. I got what I wanted.” But there’s a sternness and sadness in there too, promising him that “This isn’t what you want and it isn’t what I want *for* you.” It’s another instance of “I just wanted to be like you” and “I wanted you to be better.” The first time Tony made the choice for him. This time Peter’s choosing (literally) for himself. And even after Peter Two initially stepped in, Peter One pushed back again with real force. For a second there, it seemed like he was willing to run through Peter Two in his rage to get past him! And Peter Two just held on with quiet strength and gave him the time he needed to breathe, process, and make his own choice. Everybody praises Andrew Garfield’s acting in the “Peter Three catching MJ” moment to the moon and back (well deserved, of course) but there’s also something to be said for Tobey to convey so much without even saying a word.

All of the anger just poured out of Peter, and you can tell that he's dedicating every punch and every attack he used against Norman to his aunt, wanting to kill the man who killed his aunt. • That moment at 5:52 is so underrated - if you think back to the final fight at the end of Spider-Man ‘02 when Peter confronts Norman about how he killed the board members, he instantly blames it on the Goblin - maybe out of desperation? Hell, it may have been the Goblin masquerading as Norman trying to weasel his way out for mercy, or something. Either way, I think it says something in 2002 as to how Norman wouldn’t own up to this own mistakes, and that hubris is what ultimately got him killed. Here, instead of instantly blaming whatever happened on his darker half, Norman just goes “What have I done?” and he says it so remorsefully I couldn’t help but feel bad. He realizes he hasn’t been in control since the incident at Happy’s apartment, and seeing his Peter possibly on the verge of death makes him instantly take full responsibility. His expressions say it all: he knows that the Goblin has struck again, but he really doesn’t know how bad the damage was this time. Maybe I’m reading too deep into this, but I friggin’ loved Dafoe’s delivery here.
