Niche mouse made even more niche with shape changes | Logitech G303 Wireless Shroud Review

I started my review career with the Logitech G302. Why? Because I had been using a DeathAdder for 5 years and KNEW that I had aimed better in the past. So I went searching for a smaller mouse and the G302 was the only good one that I could see at the time (how things change!).
It would've been nice to get a 1:1 remake of the G303 but wireless, but this isn't it. They've altered the dimensions in such a way that the angles are now more aggressive, and I don't think that's a good thing. It's going to make the shape even more polarizing. Might be really good for some people though, so that's a plus.
So, as always, it's up to you to find what you like. This is just my preference. If you find you do like the idea of the changes, then all the usual Logitech Wireless goodness applies, this is a great mouse, as you'd expect from Logitech.

  • Hope the extra measurements part wasn't too confusing ... basically by keeping the bottom and bottom front of the mouse thin, while expanding both measurements at the top, it's made that angled side even more aggressive / slanted. So that means it's going to be harder to get a grip and less safe. Some may like it, but I've found mouse design is subtle and we only need a bit of curvature here and there to get comfortable. So personally I think they over did it and should've just done a 1:1 remake, then increased all measurements by 4.4% to get the larger size. That would've kept the angles true to the original. Great mouse, as expected from Logitech, but yeah, niche mouse became more niche I think with this. Then again, Shroud is Shroud. On its own merits, I think it's even more niche than the G303. With Shroud, maybe it's mainstream, I don't know.

    • Thanks for review! I wish they had released classic wireless version of it, tried the shroud edition and of course it's good and all, but those little dimension changes sure does a great effect. My original G303 is still holding good, and have replaced switches and para-wire to it, but that wireless with USB C on the old shape would have been a game changer. Anyways, the new version was specifically made for shroud, not the fan base of G303.

    • Me personally I like some angles sides, but I do think that if the side are too slanted you will have trouble gripping the mouse, the key is exactly as you said, don't over do it. Anyways, great review as always. Cheers!

    • One thing I would really appreciate from your reviews would be if you mentioned if the mouse has a G shift or hypershift feature. This is a Logitech so I know it has g shift, but for other brands it would be fantastic if you went through the software and mentioned whether or not it has the shift feature to add an extra layer f controls for all the buttons.

  • As much as it makes sense, I'm surprised no one has actually spoken about slope of the sides in reviews, so thanks for doing this, Zy. Though the new is certainly less safe than then original, I almost prefer the "emphasized" feel of the new. For me, the advantage of the G303 shape was a feeling of control in palm claw grip, like I had additional contact points with the base of my thumb on the widest points of the diamond, little finger to curl around the right side, and the slanted sides help to apply upward force. On the note of slanted sides, I know my preference here is probably unpopular, but those slanted sides just helped my feeling of control when I use the new. Still playing around with it, and I haven't fully adjusted, but this is probably my new main for small-medium hand size, aggressive palm claw. Thanks for the review!

  • I mained the OG G303 for a while and switched to the GPW/GPX because of weight/wireless. I'm now back to the G303SE. The shape is ultra niche, but if you fit that shape I think its hard to beat. The thing is, you can only really grip it one way, so you're hand never really meanders around, and is always locked in the same way every time you grab it. This is what I like about it.

  • Having obnoxiously large hands, finding lightweight mice that hold comfortable claw grips is rough. I have bought too many mice always being left feeling unimpressed no matter how touted. I can't get down with the feel of razer mice (deathadder v2 in particular). Got the new 303 solely based on people saying the ideal claw grip mouse and that it is bigger than the original I sadly never got to test. I have been having a great experience thus far. I feel with the sensor back further it makes precision wrist movements with scopes easier to track and strangely enough there is something about the way I hold it that it somehow doesn't really feel heavier than my g pro superlight even though there is a 10 gram or so difference. Great review as always!

  • Great review; I've been saying for awhile that the shape changes made to the Shroud G303 are actually more alienating than inclusive. Granted, I have very small hands and the Shroud G303 is noticeably too big for me, so I'm a bit biased. But I have used so many mice of varying sizes in the past, and none have ever felt too big the way the Shroud G303 does. And I have never seen so many people complain about the size of a mouse before. I have a custom PMM G303 wireless now that is much closer to the original shape, and I like it so much more. It fits me like a glove and is basically my dream mouse. I'm really saddened that Logitech made such drastic changes to the OG shape; here's hoping they eventually release a G303 "mini" that is more like the original...

  • I never used the original, but this mouse is an improvement for me from the gpro superlight. Gripping the mouse is very natural in a palm/claw hybrid coming from a scuffed claw on the superlight. My aim is steadier/more consistent and my hand is more comfortable. I think this mouse will actually have a higher skill ceiling for me than others I've used. I'm already meeting or surpassing previous standards without having had it very long and how steady/consistent it is out the gate is promising. I don't like the scroll wheel though. Prefer the superlight scroll wheel. Also the clicks are pretty unique and the battery life is absolutely insane.

My serious Endgame, before was SuperlightX now use it as my secondary (Still a awesome mouse) I have med hands so my hand barely meet the requirement of griping this comfortably lol, thumbs just able to hit the side buttons. My grip is like a hybrid relaxed claw/finger tip so was little concerned on this unique shape, but worked out very well for me. Love how how my thumb, pinkie+ring finger just anchors it into the pocket of my palm so I get like this consistent grip every time I go to grab it. But for me, how the front aggressive tapers inwards like that made me that much more accurate & precise. Just feels like I'm really tuned in with my mouse with little effort, haven't felt this way about a mouse in a very long time. The battery & sensor is excellent too, Logitech has the best tech for mice Imo.

  • I have a great story with original 300 series mouse. It got an issue where LMB could start to have doubleclicks. So I contacted Logitech and they provided new mouse for me via DHL without a doubt. The icing on the cake is that they was comfortable with upgrading me to Logitech G Pro because 303 was not in production anymore. I was happy as a kid. It was done in 1 week flawlessly. They are great with that - maybe this is just me too much lucky but I love this story and both mices. Still use G Pro for Quake - good for me.

Just unboxed this baby tonight and let's just say I'm fairly surprised in the control I am getting compared to the MZ1 that is my fav. I found myself hitting a few quick scopes that I don't think I would have done before. Wasn't sure about the big skates but was also happy with that as well. Would have loved to have the option though to put smaller skates on it though. So according to the Logitech site the G303 and the Superlight have the same dimensions and the only difference is obviously the shape and weight. Is this a typo by Logitech? Interesting to say the least. Anyways, full view gladly and thumbs up Zy. Can't wait till next review. Cheers.

  • You often say it takes up to 3 weeks to get used to a mouse. After 3 days of full day use the G303 SE makes my palm touch point (same as yours: beneath little/ring finger) feel crampy. It's not cramping yet but as if it's just a matter of time. Because of this I'm now considering to change to the x superlight. Had no problems with G403 nor G203 so I guess it's this special shape that is the cause. My Gripstyle is the exact same as yours (atleast by what you said in your advanced guide) just that I have bigger hands. I think the main problem is the wider midsection of the mouse that forces my fingers to a more outside position than is natural to me. I realy want the G303 to work for me as I always wanted the OG 303 but never had the chance. So it's somewhat a dream come true. Is this just a mouse that doesn't fit the gripstyle and it's somewhat a lost cause or is it just that I need to endure the crampyness and my hand will adapt to it? Your website suggests a 305 but as I already have a 203 and I want a lighter and slightly bigger mouse the 305 is no option.

But my hands/grip style still work well with the new shape. I was hoping for just a straight wireless remake, but I guess this is shrouds preference. I don't think it will take over as my main from the MZ1 (which is pretty much perfect), but I still do like it.

  • Honestly, out of every review I've seen you are the only one who even bothers to compare the G302 with the G303 Shroud. You convinced me all those years ago to buy the G302, and it is by far the best mouse I've ever used. Unfortunately, I've bought 3 of them in total, and they all started double clicking shortly after a year. I haven't used it in 5 years, but no mouse has ever had the same feeling. (The G303 Deadalus Apex isn't available in South East Asia, so I never got to buy that one.) Hearing that it isn't 1:1 to the old G302 is a huge bummer for me. I initially planned on getting one of these for the new year, but I guess I'll skip out on it instead. I hope this isn't the last time we'll ever see the G302's diamond back shape again. Maybe without Shroud's name attached.

  • G303 was my first symmetrical mouse and that's when I found out how important the shape is. I use the aggressive claw grip and ergonomic mice just don't work for me. I loved it until I tried FK2. Then I started hating the diamond shape. FK2 was really the best size and shape I've tried so far. I guess the main reason was that it was very low-profile and the tallest part was right in the middle. I wish it would get the wireless version. Now I use G Pro Wireless as it was the first proper wireless mouse but it's too fat and tall for my grip. I got used to it but my aim isn't what it used to be with FK2. But I couldn't return back to the wire. Is there any wireless alternative closer to the FK2 shape?

  • As this review stated, I would like to stress that just because you were a fan of the original g303 doesn't mean you will like this one. I used the original g303 for 4 years, and really enjoyed it. But the dimension changes for this one were too much for me. I think the new g303 will be primarily suited for claw grip users. If you used the fingertip the old g303, there was enough room in the back to give you fine adjustments. But with the increase in the back, it sorta locks you into a claw grip usage (which isn't my personal style). That being said, if you did use claw grip with the original, you might find these changes suitable. Or if you just have larger hands in general. Great review as always Zy!

  • My review for people who liked the old G303 with small hands.. For reference I've got 16cm x 8.5cm small girl hands (width is measured as the widest part of my hand including my thumb) Personally, I loved the old g303. It was my main for a long time and I still have it to compare to but the new shroud edition just feels massive in comparison. I know it's only a few mm's difference, but that makes it a deal breaker for me. I use a mostly fingertip grip style so I definitely can't have a mouse this wide that also has a large hump towards the back. I feel like right where I grip the mouse is at it's widest part so it forces me to either fully palm the mouse or like half-claw it but then my fingers sit pretty far back on the triggers in claw. I think this is also because of the added length I can't hold the mouse in the preferred position which is just in front of the angular shape where it juts out. I currently use a Viper Ultimate and even though it seems like a much larger mouse side by side the fact that it's low in the back and narrow allows me to to still fingertip grip it properly because the flat-ness allows me to "choke up" on the mouse and not have the back of the mouse sitting in the back of my palm. Although the VU is definitely too large for me as well (my dream mouse I'm waiting for would either be a Viper Mini Ultimate or lighter g305 without the battery weight and rechargeable), the new G303 actually feels a lot larger to me in my hand. It's just the width and sharp angle that makes it feel super wide to me and I can't reach far enough forward to hit the sweet spot on the triggers of M1 & M2 even if I forced myself to change grip styles to hold this mouse in a claw grip. The biggest problem for me is probably the fact that my hands are so short length wise that I end up holding the mouse further back than most people, if I could hold it in front of where the angular shape juts out like I did on the old g303 I could probably use it fine, but it's just too wide and then add in that the back hump is pretty rounded forcing it into my palm and overall it just feels a lot more like a medium-sized mouse. So for people with hands anywhere close to mine, even within 1-1.5cms especially in length, I wouldn't waste your money on it. I have like a 20-25+ mouse collection so I'll probably just keep it for reference but it's definitely too large for me to use. I was super excited for the g303 to be revamped and relaunched but unfortunately it was a big let down because of the dimension changes. Would also say I'm disappointed in the mouse feet, they have a sharp edge instead of being rounded and for a mouse as expensive as this I feel like this is something that shouldn't be overlooked. The mouse feet definitely feel a heck of a lot slower than just the stock ones I have on my VU but they aren't broken in obviously. If I was to use this mouse I'd definitely be buying aftermarket feet. Personally not a fan of the switches either, they feel a lot heavier than I'd like but I'm pretty sure they're the standard switches that Logitech uses in most of their recent mice so if you like those then you should be fine. The pre and post travel is very tight which is nice to see. Obviously with hands this small the majority of mice are way too large for me, coupled with the fact that I use a fingertip grip and this makes the mice I can use an even smaller selection because any mouse with a larger hump at the back forces me to claw the mouse instead. I haven't found the "perfect" mouse yet and definitely haven't found a mouse in a long time that has fit my hands while also having the extra features/details I want. It feels like most small mice nowadays are "budget" mice so you have to sacrifice having a top of the line mouse for something that fits. I really was excited for this new G303 release and it was a big let down mostly just because I can't use it with how large it is now. If you're like me and waiting for a perfect top of the line small mouse, I'd skip this one and wait for something else to come out. Hope this helps, cheers.

    • I have small hands like RJN, I'm 18x10cm. I like the G303 but it's a bit big, particularly towards the back. The high back pushes it out of my hand a little. I do like the angled sides, and it does help to place your fingers on the dots on the sides where Shroud puts his fingers (allegedly). It is good, buttons feel great, I like the smooth texture and heavy weight of the scroll wheel. I find myself going back to my *modified* G305 which is 77g, just 3g heavier than the G303. I do miss the aggressively tapered sides of the G303 when I do, even though they felt a bit unnatural (I think a more curved aggressive side taper would be ideal). The G303 needs new feet at least, my heavier, modified G305 (22g removed) with Tiger Arc feet is easier to move. I would still consider the G303 if you have a medium to large hand and use an arched fingertip grip, but it's awkward if you relax your palm on to it.

    • This is the closest but they kinda ruined it with that increased top width... I mean it's still good and close enough, so yeah probably this for diamond shape. Or you can check out the new mice, some are pretty amazing. Like the Sora V2 from Ninjutso... super light weight, similar size, good shape, etc. Or even try my design, the Xtrfy MZ1, that's what I've been using... and not just because I designed it. If you get the wireless, you can make it a similar shape to the G303 with the lower back... just doesn't have the diamond shape, but then nothing does. Also it's a bit smaller, but that's my progression... smaller and smaller, makes them easier to aim, which is what drew me to the G303 in the first place. Check the website and put in your hand measurements in the mouse search for other options! Plenty of great mice these days.

    • @@thegreek21 I've been hearing about double click issues on most mice for years... that's why companies started switching to optical, but they have other issues, not to mention they still haven't been able to replicate the click feel of mechanical, so... I don't think it's something that can be "addressed" as such. I use 6 MZ1s here (multiple computers) and haven't had double click issues. Still using the same copies I got when they were released. That said, I had this weird double clicking mouse wheel issue on 2 of them on my main PC recently, yet that's somehow subsided. That might've been a software or even motherboard thing... not sure, but all copies are performing normally again. If you watch my video on Double Click issues, I go over other potential factors, it's not always the metal leaf wearing out. In fact, I'd say if it's happening early, it's simply not the metal leaf. Oh and those people might have set the mouse to 2ms debounce time, which it's not made for, but the option is there because Minecraft PVP players actually WANT the double clicks. So yeah ask them what debounce setting, and just make sure yours is set to 4ms, which is the recommended setting. Hope that helps, and hope you like the mouse, let me know how it goes!

    @pret83@pret832 жыл бұрын
  • (Sry for bad eng) off-topic, I would like to list some thoughts on the shortcomings and controversial points on the MZ1, maybe they will be interesting ... 1. The wheel is sometimes idle, mb only in the google bookmarks chrome, hz 2. With LOD 1mm, sometimes when moving, the sensor stops tracking. But it is not critical - and the paws themselves will wear off and the posture should be higher, then the mouse will be better press down. Or make an intermediate version of 1.5mm LOD - 3 modes 3. The front profile is overestimated in comparison with kinzu v1, which makes the mouse less accurate in micro movements ~ 10-30%. Should be partially fixed posture higher and moving your fingers to the very edge of the buttons, but still without physically reducing the profile, there will be a problem. How to reduce the profile - remove the diffusers, grind off the column of buttons, if at all possible, change the slope of the buttons, grind off the mouse paws, reduce the thickness of the bottom wall of the mouse I think you can easily lower the height by 3-5mm 4. I would make the right button of a different shape - most likely flat or slightly sloping at the lowest level of the current button; the index finger lies well on the left button, and the middle finger is usually on the edge of the right button, but there is an increase in the bend upward, which slows click the pressure and is not very comfortable 5. There can be problems with a damaged cable, due to which the mouse turns off, especially when the LOD is low ... 6. There are different types of button backlash. 7. The body creaks and walks a little. Go for metal? (weight reduction bonus) 8. Add a 2nd backrest closer to kinzu v1 and the possibility of simple replacement. No particular issues with current backrest, but 2nd backrest as a missed opportunity find your ideal ... And in general, give 10 pieces of models of backs that could be printed on a 3d printer and tried. 9. Add a correction click time mechanism. That is, some kind of bandage on the post, a few variant 0.1-0.05 mm or lower, which presses the microswitch, so as not to spoil the initial height 10. Hot swap microswitch...

    @alexkazanin7832@alexkazanin78322 жыл бұрын
    • here's my thought on the mz1(also off topic because still can't get the 303se in my region 1. my wheel doesn't idle 2. I use 2mm LOD cause the front keeps lifting when I'm playing 3. I don't have that problem(maybe i use a wrist up claw grip?) 4. Not a problem for me(claw again maybe?)but my ring finger doesn't fit too well(straight ring and pinky, ring rest on top of pinky) it sometimes goes to the edge of the rmb(maybe swapping primary and secondary button cause this issue as middle finger moves a lot more) 5. the cable are fragile, I tape 5 cm from mouse on the cable and it still disconnect sometimes when I do really fast flicks. 6. haven't tried it 7. creaks like the m4 from xtrfy. So maybe an xtrfy things? I don't know 8. You mean like the M42? that would be nice. 9. maybe a longer stem to puch the switch? The click is, for me, rebounds too little. 10. Maybe include a mouse feet first before hot swappable switch. I don't mind the current switch but hot swab would be a nice feature

    • Mouse design is subtle but also really difficult to communicate. After going through the process myself, I'm guessing Shroud would've said something like "I love the G303 shape but it just needs to be a bit bigger, and then add some extra width to it." That would explain why it isn't just a uniform increase all over and why the angles/slopes got changed. Unless Shroud has studied mice in depth (going by the clips I've seen, I think that is unlikely), he may not have known how to communicate exactly what he wanted or been aware of what his requests would actually do to the shape. And then when using it, probably assumed it was just how those changes should feel, but I think there was a miscommunication somewhere in there. Would be cool if I can somehow sit in on the convo and see if I can help them next time. But for now, I'm just going to give thoughts in videos like these. It's still good, but yeah I think it could've been better.
