I totally agree with the closing statement. Decide what your main ammo will be, then try different elastics with it until you find what works best for you. After you found your favorite elastic, you can always shoot heavier or lighter ammo, but you will definitely know what to expect with your main ammo. I would also add try different band rigging options as well and decide what works best for you. I found years ago that shooting against the ties works best for me. It eliminates almost all band slap for me ( regardless of ammo weight ) and increases my band life. But there is a right way and wrong way to shoot against the ties. Simply shooting an over the top slingshot backwards is not the right way. That's just asking for rubber in the face.

Really good video. Nice clear explanation. I really liked the graphic that showed the various grades of Theraband thickness since I'm a "visual" learner as opposed to auditory. Also, video was nice and short and to the point.

Very good info ,I use the Golds Gym kind of bands that come in a pack and I've found that shooting with flat bands have more accuracy then tube bands and a guy I sent 2 slingshots to. Says he finds flat band more accurate as well!

There is a pack of rubber slingshot bands for 40$ on eBay… I recognize the rubber they use …I know it from grow up as a kid and I used to find rubber bands that had the greatest power for shooting them… they look like the first one you showed,the gold ..,, except the band I’m talking about has almost a texture like bumpy a little bit… those ones are the best in my opinion…they are like the gold just way thicker

This video was made in 2015 before the latex scene BLEW UP! Theraband was a great option in 2015, but we don't recommend Theraband at all any more. It's a fine elastic, but there are much more effective latex options now. SimpleShot black outperforms Theraband in every category. We would recommend it over Theraband. Regarding Theraband, 0:45 will show the different thicknesses of the Theraband lineup.Gold is by far the most popular, since the others are much thinner.

I am not certain of velocity, but I would say even lighter ammo like 6.35mm. It is very light and does not retract as quickly as slingshot latex.

Can someone discuss using clay ammo? I live in a suburban area and steel is not a good choice here. Besides leaving steel shot scattered about the yard, my occasional wild shot can have serious repercussions as it could go farther due to higher mass. I just got my Scout XT and 1000 clay 5/8” ammo to learn with.

There is not too much to know about clay ammo except that the ammo mass should be matched to the band you are using. Clay ammo is quite light for its size and shooting it with overpowered bands tends to destroy accuracy, as clay ammo is not perfectly concentric. We would assume you are shooting 3/8" clay ammo rather than the 5/8" you mentioned. If so, any of our flat bands made for 1/4" steel ammo will be ideal for clay ammo.

+Ethan K. Either are fine, just make certain that the power of the bands is matched to the weight of the rocks. Less speed is generally better for rocks to keep them from veering as badly in flight. Try not to overpower rocks for best accuracy

A note on shooting rocks: always avoid irregular or jagged rocks, as these will have an erratic trajectory and can cause fork hits. cut bands, or worse. Rounded pebbles from a riverbed or a seaside beach are your best option: look for pebbles with a symmetrical shape, as these will have the best ballistic properties, and can be quite accurate. Like for other types of slingshot ammo, the band set used needs to be calibrated as far as possible to the weight of the pebbles being used. Moreover, the pebble size should not exceed 40% of the fork width available to be on the safe side.

I was shopping around for Theraband Gold the other day on the internet, and I ran across a site touting the fact that Theraband was latex-free, and therefore compliant with all the hospitals that were banning the use of latex because of patients who were austensibly "allergic" to it. So does Theraband have latex or not? Many thanks.

theraband makes a latex free version and it is useless for slingshots. The latex variant is what you want. if it says latex free- avoid.

We sell one length of bands (they are all 10 inches) in pre-made band sets. This video is about materials. You can buy latex in bulk and cut it to whatever length you want. You'll need to cut the latex and tie in your pouch, but in this case any length is available. We are sorry for any misunderstanding. All our pre-made bandsets are the same length.

(might be a rookie mistake) im not making a career of this. i might be wrong. and il retract this statement... But if its still here.. its overpriced. its complicated. (depends on your reason. your a kid you dont have all the cash, ur an adult (and have tons of other options for hunting). it might make a diffrence on were you come from aswell.

David used a Balearic Sling to slay goliath. A rubber powered device goes by many names...including flip, flipper, slingshot, cattie, shanghai, beanflipper and many others. It is generally best that folks not get hung up with semantics when referencing a device that is generally understood to be known by many names. Great question though!

We would assume you are shooting 3/8" clay ammo rather than the 5/8" you mentioned. If so, any of our flat bands made for 1/4" steel ammo will be ideal for clay ammo.

Which is better for shooting rocks flat bands or tubes?
+Ethan K. Either are fine, just make certain that the power of the bands is matched to the weight of the rocks. Less speed is generally better for rocks to keep them from veering as badly in flight. Try not to overpower rocks for best accuracy

A note on shooting rocks: always avoid irregular or jagged rocks, as these will have an erratic trajectory and can cause fork hits. cut bands, or worse. Rounded pebbles from a riverbed or a seaside beach are your best option: look for pebbles with a symmetrical shape, as these will have the best ballistic properties, and can be quite accurate. Like for other types of slingshot ammo, the band set used needs to be calibrated as far as possible to the weight of the pebbles being used. Moreover, the pebble size should not exceed 40% of the fork width available to be on the safe side.

I was shopping around for Theraband Gold the other day on the internet, and I ran across a site touting the fact that Theraband was latex-free, and therefore compliant with all the hospitals that were banning the use of latex because of patients who were austensibly "allergic" to it. So does Theraband have latex or not? Many thanks.
theraband makes a latex free version and it is useless for slingshots. The latex variant is what you want. if it says latex free- avoid.

We sell one length of bands (they are all 10 inches) in pre-made band sets. This video is about materials. You can buy latex in bulk and cut it to whatever length you want. You'll need to cut the latex and tie in your pouch, but in this case any length is available. We are sorry for any misunderstanding. All our pre-made bandsets are the same length.

David used a Balearic Sling to slay goliath. A rubber powered device goes by many names...including flip, flipper, slingshot, cattie, shanghai, beanflipper and many others. It is generally best that folks not get hung up with semantics when referencing a device that is generally understood to be known by many names. Great question though!
